About Me
I'm a former military brat. I was born in Misawa, Japan, and I graduated from Berlin American High School in Germany in 1991. I earned an associate degree from Central Texas College in 1995 and a bachelor's in English from St. Mary's University in San Antonio in 1998. I served in the military as a mechanic for almost three years, and after graduating from college with my bachelor's degree, I worked for a short time in the state Capitol for the Texas Senate Journal. I worked for four newspapers as a reporter and editor. I also worked for a plant encyclopedia project called Useful Wild Plants of Texas. I'm currently the senior editor for The University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College's publications department, but I'm focused on pursuing graduate degrees in English as part of my effort to change careers. Perhaps I will one day be a professor. I can only hope. I'm a vegan, of course, an environmentalist and a gardening nut. I love taking walks and looking at the wild plants and trying to identify them. I also like looking at the wild birds, insects and animals when I can see them. I've been married to a lovely vegan, Anita, since 2001.
