About Me
Currently an assistant professor of history at Illinois State University, having earned my Ph.D. in history from the George Washington University, I focus on twentieth-century US history, particularly intellectual, political, and educational history. I wrote a book, "Education and the Cold War: The Battle for the American School" (Palgrave Macmillan, 2008). I am currently researching three new projects: "A War for the Soul Of America: A History of the Culture Wars, 1970s-Present"; the intellectual biography of Christopher Lasch, irascible historian and social critic; and a document reader that I'm co-editing with my friend and colleague Touré Reed titled "Civil Rights and the Fight Against 'Social Disorganization:' Underclass Ideology and Liberal Activism and Policy, 1909-2008."
