| Introduction | I moved from the city of Evanston, Illinois (population around 70,000 in the midst of "Chicagoland") to a little dot on the map called Sand River, Michigan (population unknown, in the midst of "nowhere") in 2006, when I was 48 years old. Why? I wanted to see what it would be like; I wanted to see if life could be different, better, more relaxed, more open, easier in some indefinable sense. A couple of years later I started writing about the Upper Peninsula (it's part of Michigan but as a land mass it extends north from Wisconsin) and basically whatever I felt like. All that's in the blog "an upper peninsula journal." The "beeswax" blog began in 2010 as I began a beeswax business. Enjoy. |
