Introduction The name "Painted Rock Pictures" was inspired by my love of the Chattahoochee River. In the Creek language Chattahoochee roughly translates as "painted rock," a reference to the many colorful granite outcrops that line the banks of the river and jut out of the water in places to form small island chains that stretch almost to the other bank. I've lived most of my life along the banks of the Chattahoochee. As a youngster growing up in Columbus it was a part of our daily lives. We fished, swam and boated in the river for recreation, and sometimes simply sat beside it to contemplate the beauty of a sunset. Though today, living in the modern American metropolis of Atlanta, the 'Hootch is just an occasional respite from the rigors of urban life, it remains a rich source of memory and symbolism. The Creeks have an old saying that once you drink from the waters of the Chattahoochee you are always destined to return and, for me at least, the old wives' tale has certainly proven to be true.
