Introduction Dr. Berg-Cross is a Cognitive Psychologist (Ph.D. SUNY Stony Brook, BS RPI) with over 30 years of experience with ontological analysis growing out of his dissertation on knowledge representation & the semantics of understanding. He has taught human learning and cognition & problems solving courses at the University of Delaware, GW & GMU. Since 1975 he has consulted to a range of organizations as a knowledge strategist. Major thrusts of his work includes reusable medical & geospatial knowledge, enterprise architecture models, standardization of domain vocabularies and service oriented design. He has published in the areas of representing knowledge, ontological analysis, SOA and eGov. Since 2005 he has been an active member of the Semantic Interoperability CoP (SICoP) and facilitateS workshop meetings on geospatial ontology that lead to the creation of a spatial community of practice (SOCoP). He contributed to discussion of SOCoP Pilot project planning and is currently the SOCoP Executive Secretariat helping standardize ontology work across different groups.
