Making up my mind was the problem.

While I planned our my current diet, I tried to estimate the total number of pounds I had lost dieting. It must be close to three hundred pounds. Add another three hundred that I regained and you can readily see that over my dieting life, I have manipulated six hundred pounds of human flesh. Four medium sized men!

Although I have years of experience at dieting, I have spent most of my life twenty-five pounds overweight. I want to give you some rules that were given to me. I have followed these rules without much success. There greatest value is that you can eat very well while failing at your diet.

1. If I eat something and Lois doesn't see me eat it, it has no calories.

2. Things licked off of spoons and knives contain no calories. If you are fixing a peanut butter sandwich for a child, or ice cream when preparing a sundae, lick away.

3. Broken cookie pieces contain no calories. It has something to do with the breaking process, which permits calorie leakage.

4. Entertainment foods are not fattening. Such as food you eat at the movie. They are part of the entertainment package and not part of one's personal fuel such as Milk Duds, Buttered popcorn, Junior Mints, Red Hots and Tootsie Rolls.

5. When you eat with someone else, calories don't count if you don't eat more than they do.

6. Food used for medical purposes never count. Foods like hot chocolate, buttered toast, bourbon and Sara Lee Cheesecake. (Don't ask!)

7. I drink a diet soda with a candy bar; the diet soda cancels out the calories in the candy bar.

It is absolutely remarkable the way my eating habits rule my life. I have my "skinny" clothes at one end of the closet, the "in-between" clothes at the other. The "fat" clothes spend most of their time in the middle.

The "skinny" pants seem to always have the pockets gaping open. That is from wearing them to far into the "fat" cycle and stretching them out of shape. Most of my "skinny" and "in-between" pants have those slides hooked to elastic and expand as I do. A size 42 fits all the way up to 46 before they begin to hurt. That allows me to slide into the fat cycle without having to buy larger clothes. Breaking down and buying larger clothes is so depressing.

It is also depressing watching TV without my usual Oreo cookies and milk ... also, my Rocky Road ice cream ... and my buttered popcorn ... my strawberry shortcake...my coca-cola crammed full of Red Skin Peanuts (sigh)

Life's a bitch. You know?

Harold Mouncehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16779646417947746886noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9969581.post-1151857702397401542006-07-02T09:26:00.000-07:002006-07-02T09:28:22.413-07:00Doctor/Patient Communication Is the First Step Toward Good Healthand vegetables, saved lives.

They handed out special diets, in some cases, dimly printed and reprinted to the tenth power and was barely legible. It wasn’t the quality of the printing of the diet that mattered, it reflected a careless attitude that indicated a lack of interest. And why not. The Doctor already knew that the diet would be ignored after a day or two. What he didn’t know was had he shown a sincere belief in the diet and explained the nutritional value of vegetables and supplements, the patient might have reacted differently.

What all that says is that for best Doctor-Patient relations and for best health care, communication is a must. Ask if the new prescription is safe with the other drugs you are taking. Doctors are so busy that they sometimes fail to look at your chart, or they look at your chart but do not “see” it.

It’s scary to think about what will happen if the Bird Flu does hit the U.S. There really will be a pandemic. Hospitals over-run, Doctors waiting rooms jammed. In addition to that, a vaccine that may or may not be developed in time. If your doctor gets a vaccine, for goodness sake, ask if it conflicts with your medicine.

The drug companies will eventually come up with the vaccine, but in their haste to get it in the hands of the medical professional, will they test for conflicts that may exist between the vaccine and other medicines?

My message to you here is, take responsibility for your own life. They tell of how Doctors are not improving their health...of how they prescribe one pill after another. They speak of how the medicine makes them feel bad and they are quick to relate stories of how Doctors gave prescriptions for drugs that reacted to other drugs and caused serious complications or death.

The worst is not the Doctors or Drugs. The worst thing that has happened is, we as a nation have brought this on ourselves. We had to fhave a pill for every ache and pain...every discomfort.

That is not to say that all is right with the medical and pharmaceutical industries. They have been slow to react to needs of the elderly. Yes, sometimes they write a prescripition and dump you out the door. And no, Doctors aren’t usually into diet and nutrition, although more and more are coming over.

Our health, and our bodies, are our own responsibility. It is up to us to ingest the proper foods and food supplements. You don’t like vegetables, you say...well take it from me, you will not like chemotherapy either. However, researchers are moving the debate to more of a consensus. The evidence appears overwhelming that the consumption of dark chocolate can improve both glucose metabolism (diabetic control) and blood pressure.

Good reports have come from food supplement E-7 which not only indicate that the consumption of the E-7 with dark chocolate do improve both glucose metabolism (diabetic control) and blood pressure. The Tufts University of Boston performed the ORAC test on the chocolate E-7 and gave it a score of 21,010, eight times stronger than the nearest competitor's product.

Results were gathered from a small study that involved 15 healthy young adults who were supplemented daily with 100 grams of dark chocolate or 90 grams of white chocolate, each of which provided 480 kilocalories. Respectively, the polyphenol content (having antioxidant activity) present in the dark and white chocolate were calculated to be 500 and 0 milligrams (mg). Participants were divided into two groups; each group ingested:

One type of chocolate for 15 days. No chocolate for a subsequent seven days
The other type of chocolate for an additional 15 days. It was discovered that dark chocolate supplementation was linked to improved insulin resistance and sensitivity, as well as decreased systolic blood pressure. The white chocolate, on the other hand, had no effect.

Chocolate’s Flavanol Content

Cocoa is rich in flavanols, a class of polyphenols found in plants; however, the concentration of the flavanols in any chocolate depends on:

The flavanol content of the cocoa plant it is derived from.
The procedures used to transform the cocoa into chocolate.

Chocolate such as the dark chocolate used in the study could contain a relatively high concentration of flavanols. Researchers believe the regulation of nitric oxide production by the flavanols found in dark chocolate could explain its effects on insulin sensitivity and blood pressure. It remains unclear, however, how flavanols interact with the body to increase nitric oxide bioavailability. One suggested mechanism is insulin-mediated cell signaling, because insulin can modulate several signaling molecules involved in nitric oxide-synthase regulation.

To become a home based business, part or full time and distribute E-7, and get more information, call me at 1-800-253-9517.

Harold Mouncehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16779646417947746886noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9969581.post-1110395529252319172005-03-21T11:09:00.000-08:002005-03-21T09:05:59.566-08:00More on MigrainesMigraine headaches have very specific symptoms. Migraines are also called vascular headaches, because they are believed to be caused by changes in the flow of blood in the vessels of the head.

Symptoms of a migraine include throbbing pain on one or both sides of the head and sensitivity to light or noise. Because migraines may also cause nausea or vomiting, they are sometimes called "sick" headaches.

Although the headache comes on quite suddenly, it is sometimes preceded by visual disturbances, such as zig-zagged lines, called an aura. Dizziness and numbness on one side of the body may also precede a migraine. The headaches last from a few hours to a few days, and recur from several times a week to once every few years.

Migraines are more common in women. The headaches may begin during childhood, but most begin during the teens and early twenties.

Prevention

Keep a diary of your headache symptoms. Once you know what events, foods, medications, or activities bring on a headache, you may be able to prevent or limit their recurrence.

Migraine headaches are often caused by unstable blood sugars, gall bladder dysfunction, misalignment and hormones. Avoid bad fat (animal fat) increase good fat. I recommend, before spending a lot of money, that you consider some natural products. Use a product called E-7 (Seven Essentials), to equalize blood sugar. A natural product called Cleanzyme should be used to clean the system of toxins and fortify the gallbladder. Everlasting, a product for joint pain that has helped many lower their blood pressure. Pain may be eased due to the products tendency to lubricate the blood and ease the resistance as the blood flows through restricted veins and arteries. This is also the way the product may lower blood pressure.

Migraine headaches have very specific symptoms. Because migraines may also cause nausea or vomiting, they are sometimes called "sick" headaches. Some women find that their headaches improve if they stop taking birth control pills. Experiment with a nonhormonal form of birth control.

Home Treatment

• Lie down in a darkened room at the first sign of a migraine. Relax the entire body, starting with the forehead and eyes and working down to the toes.

• Many people find aspirin, acetaminophen, or ibuprofen helps relieve a migraine. Be careful with Vioxx and Aleive. They can cause heart attack and stroke.

• If a doctor has prescribed medication for your migraines, take the recommended dose at the first sign that a migraine is starting.

• If you use over-the-counter or prescription headache medications too often, they may actually make the headaches more frequent or severe. If this occurs, call your doctor for advice.

• Most migraine headaches will require professional diagnosis and treatment.

• If you suspect your headaches are migraines. Professional diagnosis and treatment can help decrease the impact of migraines on your life. Discuss relaxation and biofeedback techniques, which help many people prevent migraines.

• If you wish to use an alternative natural supplement, you may see and read about the supplements referred to above at the .com website healthier-harvest. In juvenile diabetes, this condition prevails as a result of an insufficient production of insulin by the pancreas. In most cases of adult onset diabetes the amount of insulin produced is normal, but the body's ability to use it is not. Insulin is the hormone essential for converting carbohydrates (sugars and starches) into glucose, the body's most important fuel.

Although the basic cause of diabetes is still unknown, the condition can be controlled if treated correctly. The full name of the disease is diabetes mellitus, roughly translatable from the Greek and Latin as "a passing through of honey."

According to the American Diabetes Association, the number of people with diabetes is increasing, with approximately 14 million Americans being affected at this time. Of this number, 10 million are aware of having the disease and are under treatment; the other 4 million are unaware of their diabetic condition or are not being treated for it. Adult onset diabetes is the direct cause of at least 40,000 deaths a year and is considered to be the indirect cause of an additional 300,000 deaths because of cardiovascular and kidney complications. Thus, it can be considered the third highest cause of death in the United States.

Recently, there has been an alarming increase in diabetes among children. Children eat too many snack foods of sugar and starches. Also, children are growing in at a dangerous rate in obesity. Obesity is the stepping stone to diabetes.

Symptoms of the disease are easily recognized, and once the diagnosis has been confirmed, most people with diabetes, given the proper treatment, are able to live normal lives. The increased life expectancy of diabetics, particularly in the case of women over 30, is largely due to the discovery of insulin by two Canadian scientists in 1921-22. This hormone, produced by the pancreas, regulates the body's use of sugar by metabolizing glucose and turning it into energy or into glycogen for storage for future use. An insufficiency of insulin or other abnormalities not fully understood results in the diabetic's inability to metabolize or store glucose, thus leading to its accumulation in the bloodstream in amounts large enough to spill over into the urine. This metabolic aberration causes the characteristic symptoms of diabetes: frequent urination due to the abnormal amount of urine produced to accommodate the excess glucose that the kidneys filter out of the blood, chronic thirst, an excessive hunger. Dramatic weight loss occurs because, being unable to use glucose, the person with diabetes must use body fat and protein as a source of energy. In order to reach the proper balance of insulin production and glucose conversion, which is constantly being regulated by the normal body, each diabetic must be individually stabilized through a controlled regimen of medication, diet, and energy output.

In addition to the previously mentioned symptoms, other symptoms that indicate the possibility of diabetes are drowsiness and fatigue; changes in vision; repeated infections of the kidneys, gums, or skin; intense itching without a known cause; and cramps in the extremities. Any woman with symptoms suggesting diabetes should have a urine and blood sugar test. There is also a simple laboratory procedure, the glucose tolerance test, that can identify prediabetics, thus alerting the doctor and patient to the possible onset of the disease.

Blood sugar levels are often controlled by the ingestion of a natural food product called Risotriene (Life Solubles) which is the primary ingredient in E-7 (Seven Essentials). E-7 is a complete nutritional supplement that includes all major vitamins and minerals and is conducive to the restoration of health throughout the entire body.

When medication is essential to maintain normal blood sugar levels, the amount of insulin needed is determined initially by the level of glucose in the blood. Thereafter it usually can be determined by the level of glucose in the urine, which is tested regularly by the patient. Variations in the results of the urine tests are the guide to necessary adjustments in diet, medication, and exercise. The use of oral drugs that stimulate the pancreas to produce its own insulin may be recommended with or without an insulin supplement. This procedure requires constant monitoring by the physician.

For more information about natural supplements, specifically E7 (Seven Essentials), that may control glucose levels and diabetes, go to the .com site of healthier-harvest and see and read about this product

Harold Mouncehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16779646417947746886noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9969581.post-1110408497005344462005-03-09T14:46:00.000-08:002005-03-09T15:01:42.800-08:00Don't Freeze Your Plastic Bottles or Micorwave Saran Wrap Covered DishesJohns Hopkins has recently sent this out in their newsletters worth noting... This information is being circulated at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

Dioxin Carcinogens cause cancer, especially breast cancer. Don't freeze your plastic water bottles with water as this also releases dioxins in the plastic.

Dr. Edward Fujimoto from Castle hospital was on a TV program explaining this health hazard. (He is the manager of the Wellness Program at the hospital.)

He was talking about dioxins and how bad they are for us. He said that we should not be heating our food in the microwave using plastic containers.

This applies to foods that contain fat. He said that the combination of fat, high heat and plastics releases dioxins into the food and ultimately into the cells of the body.

Dioxins are carcinogens and highly toxic to the cells of our bodies. Instead, he recommends using glass, Corning Ware, or ceramic containers forheating food. You get the same results, without the dioxins.

So such things as TV dinners, instant ramen and soups, etc., should be removed from the container and heated in something else. Paper isn't bad but you don't know what is in the paper. It's just safer to use tempered glass, Corning Ware or ceramic containers. To add to this, Saran wrap placed over foods as they are nuked with the high heat, actually drips poisonous toxins into the food, use paper towels.

Pass this on to your family and friends and those that are important in your life.

Harold Mouncehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16779646417947746886noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9969581.post-1110385870883505622005-03-09T08:28:00.000-08:002005-03-09T08:31:10.886-08:00Children's HeadachesChildren's headaches rarely indicate a serious problem. They are more frequent in children whose parents often discuss their own headaches. Children tend to imitate their parents, so it is wise to mention headaches as infrequently as possible.
Emotional tension is the most common cause of headache in children. Often, a parent can discover the cause of stress and help relieve it. Many times, just talking about a problem may help a child. Some children try to do too much, or are pushed by family or school to do too much. Even fun activities can be overdone and cause fatigue and headaches. Encourage your children to talk openly about problems and stress at school. Tension headaches (see page 129) are common in teens, and are generally caused by emotional stress related to school, sports, or relationships. Hunger can also cause headaches
in children. A daily breakfast and a nutritious after-school snack may prevent them. Eyestrain may also cause headaches. Headache is also common with viral illnesses that cause fever, such as colds.
Home Treatment
• Talk to your child. Try to discover the source of the headache and deal with it. Let the child know you care. Tension headaches are sometimes "attention" headaches.
• Play quietly with the child, or read stories together.
• If the headache is still present, have the child lie down in a darkened room with a cool cloth on the forehead.
• With quiet time and extra attention, most tension headaches in children can be managed without pain relievers. If non-drug treatments do not relieve the pain, try acetaminophen. See page 300 for the proper dosage. Avoid creating the pattern of using a pill for every pain. Do not give aspirin to children.

Harold Mouncehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16779646417947746886noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9969581.post-1109975921972239472005-03-04T14:22:00.000-08:002005-03-04T14:48:30.953-08:00Fatty, Fatty, Five by FiveObesity in the workplace costs money__lots of it. Obesity in the home costs a lot of money, too. Obesity causes early death, heart disease, diabetes and about any other bad thing you can think of.

We don't exercise. We set at a computer or behind the wheel of a car. As addicts, we ingest fast calorie food of oversized portions 6 to 8 times a day. We constantly swig on a sugar laden soft drink in a container that requires it be held by two hands.

One reason we eat so much and so often may be because our food suppliers never let the land rest. They continue to bleed the soil and send us food with less and less nutrients. Consequently, people become overweight trying to eat enough to satisfy their hunger.

Crop rotation is one way for the land to restore itself. Even the Bible mentions resting the land for 7 years and planting it every 7 years.

With current high priced land, our large food suppliers are probably not interested in that formula. The planting of legumes, alfalfa and any number of nutrient replacing crops could build up the nutritional value of food to the extent that the consumer might be more satisfied with smaller portions.

One bright spot is the news of Hoodia Gordinii, the African cactus plant that curbs the appetite by making the brain think it is not hungry. Many good results are coming from the weight loss products that contain this plant.

We have to do something. There are too many at risk. There are too many suffering because of obesity.

Harold Mouncehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16779646417947746886noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9969581.post-1108930358247066762005-02-20T11:51:00.000-08:002005-02-20T12:12:38.250-08:00The FDA is Gonna Save us All!Glory, glory halluelujah! Lawsey, lawsey me, Mr. Bones. The FDA is protecting us all. They say Vioxx, Celebrex, Aleve, the drugs that were wiping out thousands are now O.K. if given by a knowledgeable and reputable doctor. For God's sake, identify the doctors that aren't knowledgeable and reputable. Can the FDA identify them? Give us an even break. The idea is that even considering the dangers of the drugs, the arthritis pain that it relieves will make it worth the death risk.

Either way, the pain is gone. Aren't there less expensive products out there that would relieve us of life and pain at the same time...like rat poison...bleach...or Mexican peppers.

The shame is that now the drug companies have no incentive to develop a safe product. They can keep harvesting the dollars from their dangerous product, the health of the nation go hang.

It would be nice to know how many of the FDA decision makers have a history with drug companies. Also, might be good to look into Congressional votes cast vs. Congressmen's drug company contributions.

Oh, well, nothing can be done about it. We all talk and write and do nothing.

Thanks for reading. I am just venting.

Harold Mouncehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16779646417947746886noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9969581.post-1108928633889071962005-02-20T11:23:00.000-08:002005-02-20T11:48:10.956-08:00Hoodia Think Will Lose Weight...Youdia Will! That new plant out of Africa that looks like a cactus may the salvation for us all if it reduces those Walmart butts that take up the entire aisle. The thought of losing weight from a plant that tells the brain that the stomach is full, or at least tells the brain it is not hungry, is not appetizing. (Pun intended, but true.) My belief is shared with many that our food supply has lost a large portion of its nutrients. This is due to not rotating the vegetable crops and giving the soil a chance to rejuvenate itself. The rotation of legumes, tubers and peanuts and other soil enriching crops restores the land thereby providing the proper nutrients to the food.

To lose weight by reducing the amount of food one takes in is one thing. The other thing is we may find that the body will suffer from lack of nutrients.

Which brings me back to quoting myself, "We need natural healthy food supplements to keep our bodies well nourished so we may ward off disease and afflictions. In other words, we need a stronger immune system."

This is not being done at our current rate of travel. The best supplement is the outer hull of the rice kernel. Here you find 106 anti-oxyidants, the natural A, B, C, D and E vitamins along with a host of minerals. The vitamin E in the Rice outer hull is 6000 stronger than any man made vitamin E.

One problem with pure Rice Bran is that it will not dissolve in liquid. This make it mean to take. However, there has been a break through and now some vegetable enzymes have been added to pre-digest the powder and make it soluble. In fact, they bite the heads off the little boogers and swallow them whole, yet they seem to age in relatively good health.

My wife, the former Lois Jean Callaway and one-time Walnut Springs High School Halloween Queen, and I both have relatives who are living long, healthy lives without fear of a cholesterol getting loose in their bodies.

It's a mystery to me that suddenly redeye gravy and cat-head biscuits made with pure hog lard are going to kill us all. Are these mouth-watering, cholesterol-laden morsels really threats to our health?

It doesn't seem fair that the people born in the early 1900s weren't plagued with the threat of fat . . . were they? If they could eat all that fatty stuff why can't we'?

Lois' father is 90. Her mother is 84. I dearly love to visit them because I know I am going to be served a meal of which not one consideration will be made as to how much fat, grease, sugar, white flour or anything else is present in any of the various courses.

Ha! Various courses, indeed. What an understatement. There are usually nine courses or more, which include potatoes fixed three different ways, green beans fixed two different ways, sweet potatoes candied and baked straight up in their skins, and two, maybe three, meats. Then comes the dessert.

Two, maybe three pies; one, maybe two, four-layer cakes with a choice of or combination of whip cream, ice cream, peaches or pears. One more thing (problem?). I am badgered until I load my plate and scolded until I empty it. I have literally hurt getting up from the table as an attempt was made to refill my iced-tea glass and bring me a cup of coffee at the same time.

Cholesterol, somebody said? Yes, we had a dump-truck-load of cholesterol. I thought I saw cholesterol swimming in the gravy doing the backstroke. I had to be careful not to squash it as I dunked my yeast roll in the greasy puddles that formed in lowlands of the huge chunks of fat that bordered the roast. Cholesterol played and frolicked in the 100-percent, double throw-down, genuine real, whipped cream.

It was a Cholesterol community at work: and play. I saw Clyde and Cleo Cholesterol and their twin boys, Cletus and Clayton. I imagined that they were waiting, bags packed and standing at the ready. They' were all holding hands so as not to become separated when I swallowed that big hunk of fatty roast on which they stood. 1 then suspected that after changing trains several times, they would end up attached to a vital artery wall, where they would desperately hang on and become firmly attached. And from there, as their friends came swimming by, they would reach out and grab them and thereby populate their little colony.

Suspecting all of this, I still could not stop eating. Well, I did stop; but only to order my first course of dessert.

The problem has to be something more than the fat we eat. I think it may be that something from outer space is coming in through all of those holes our rockets have punched in the atmosphere.

Well, if it is the fat, how do you explain my long-living kinfolk who will probably carry my casket?

On top of all that fat intake those old people work like mules.

Work? Could it be work that keeps them healthy? Naw! Never. I'm going with the "alien invasion" theory. Work? No way. Couldn't be. If work is the answer, then the question is ' "how long have I got?"

Harold Mouncehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16779646417947746886noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9969581.post-1108398596840159082005-02-14T08:15:00.000-08:002005-02-14T08:29:56.840-08:00Eating For Your HeartYou don't have to starve yourself of your favorite food or dread your diet of dreary meals.

One of the most widespread myths avoid eating for a healthy heart is that there is only one correct diet and you must not deviate from it. What's really important for you hear, however, is to your dietary pattern--the balance of foods you eat over several days and weeks. If you focus on the pattern rather than on individual foods, you can adapt it to the kind of life you lead, your preferences and your cultural background--all without feeling bored or deprived.

Another way is to bolster your nutrition with a good food supplement. The E-7 complete nutritional supplement not only tastes good, (4 flavors)but has a complete nutritional offering that builds energy and has the highest anti-oxidant rating of any on the market.

Harold Mouncehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16779646417947746886noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9969581.post-1107470426734349202005-02-03T14:37:00.000-08:002005-02-25T09:27:41.346-08:00Vioxx, Celebrex, Aleve-Killer Drugs? The US Food and Drug Administration denied charges it tried to suppress a safety official's findings that painkiller Vioxx, which was pulled from the market last week, raised heart attack risks.

Dr. David Graham's study on the Merck & Co Inc. arthritis drug was sent through the "standard review process" before being made public in August, the FDA said in a statement released late Thursday.

Graham told Senate Finance Committee Chairman Charles Grassley on Thursday that FDA officials pressured him to keep quiet or water down his conclusions about Vioxx, according to Grassley.

Conversations between Graham and his supervisor were part of the "open discussion and frank exchange about scientific and medical issues" that are part of the process for reviewing staff research presentations, the FDA said.

"After that discussion, it was Dr. Graham's decision to revise the abstract," or a summary of his findings, the FDA said.

Graham, associate director for science in the FDA's Office of Drug Safety, concluded that patients taking Vioxx were more likely to suffer heart attacks than others who took rival medicine Celebrex, made by Pfizer Inc.

Graham's findings were presented at a medical conference in France on Aug. 25.

Grassley, an Iowa Republican, is investigating how the FDA handles safety concerns about medicines.

For more information about Vioxx and see and read about an alternative natural pain product call 800-253-9517

Harold Mouncehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16779646417947746886noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9969581.post-1107467610278699442005-02-03T13:51:00.000-08:002005-02-03T13:53:30.280-08:00Our Supplements Are All NaturalWe, at Harvest Time, and the folks at Integris, are most interested in your good health. One small order of McDonald's French fries contains enough trans fat to fill a day and a half's worth.

Triggering heart disease more than any other fat is trans fat, which can be found in most fast foods. This makes eating out a potential hazard to the heart. This is due to the fact that most fast food chain restaurants fry their foods with a leading source of trans fat, otherwise known as the artery clogging partially hydrogenated vegetable oil (PHO).

Most Americans' trans fat intake stems from PHO. At one time, trans fat was considered to be safer than saturated fat, however that theory quickly changed as it proved to negatively affect blood cholesterol levels. Some of the dangerous consequences related to trans fat is that it not only raises bad cholesterol, LDL, but it lowers good cholesterol, HDL. For these reasons, trans fat can be held accountable for the tens of thousands of deaths last year caused by heart attacks.

Fast food giant, McDonald's, promised to eliminate their use of PHO by creating a cooking oil with less trans fat. They claimed it was one step closer to cutting trans fat altogether.

McDonald's lovers have yet to see that promise fulfilled.

Although McDonald's in Denmark have switched to healthier cooking oil, McDonald's in the United States have retracted from any such actions. In fact, McDonald's is being sued in California for misleading the public by not following through with their proposed actions. Members of the Center of Science and Public Interest group described McDonald's continual use of trans fat as "reckless and irresponsible."

In addition to McDonald's, fast food chains using PHO include:

* Burger King
* Wendy's
* Applebee's
* Krispy Kreme

It is not illegal for the restaurants to use PHO, however, new labeling rules are pushing manufacturers of processed foods in the direction of switching to less harmful oils. Those fighting against the use of PHO hope to gain some ground by asking the FDA to require restaurants using PHO to make it known by printing it in their menus or on their signs.

Trans fat can be found naturally in meat and dairy products.

Harold Mouncehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16779646417947746886noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9969581.post-1106596010645595232005-01-24T11:41:00.000-08:002005-02-03T14:36:57.250-08:00FDA Denies Trying to Block Vioxx Results

For more information about Vioxx and see and read about an alternative natural pain product call 800-253-9517

Harold Mouncehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16779646417947746886noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9969581.post-1106153773295636452005-01-19T07:31:00.000-08:002005-01-19T08:56:13.296-08:00Homocysteine: A Big Word For Some. A Killer for Most!A high concentration of homocysteine in the blood appears to be a risk factor for heart disease. Even mildly elevated homocysteine levels are associated with an increased risk of death from any cause.

The first study showed that even subjects with mildly to moderately elevated homocysteine levels had a 30% to 50% higher risk of death than those with the lowest levels.

The second study examined published studies on homocysteine levels and cardiovascular disease and found that the evidence reviewed supports a positive association between plasma homocysteine level and risk for cardiovascular disease.

Homocysteine levels can be regulated with our product Methylate. Methylate levels the homocysteine levels in the blood. The Problem: Homocysteine. Maybe a big word for some but it’s a big killer to most. A homocysteine is a toxic amino acid (a bad guy) that is present in all humans. When homocysteine levels become elevated in our body, the aging process, along with cardiovascular disease accelerates.

You may read about a product that has what it takes to regulate homocysteine levels in the blood. This a horrible tragedy of Nature. Here at home we have another tradgey. Not one of Nature, but one of Man. One of Drug men and women. One of regulators of Food and Drugs. These people's death count may already have exceeded that by the unleashing of Vioxx, Celebrex and Aleive.

We will long rue our "Drug Tsunami of 2004". The reason for the horror of the real Tsunami and the Drug Tsunami is that in the first, a lot of pictures of great numbers of bodies were visible. The terrible death rate that occurred here due to Vioxx, Celebrex and Aleive, left the bodies scattered across the Nation. A lot less visible.

Harold Mouncehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16779646417947746886noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9969581.post-1106079393549818872005-01-18T13:14:00.000-08:002005-01-18T12:17:56.280-08:00Young have mental decline linked with blood pressure
The decline in mental functioning associated with increasing blood pressure that has been documented in older adults also applies to people in their 20s and 30s, according to a report in the medical journal Hypertension.

"We need to be concerned about blood pressure effects on (mental) performance in older people, but we also need to be concerned about the relationship between blood pressure over time and the change in (mental performance) in younger people," study co-author Dr. Merrill F. Elias, from the University of Maine in Orono, said in a statement.

Dr. Elias' team assessed the link between blood pressure and mental decline in 529 subjects who were followed for 20 years. The subjects were divided into two groups based on age: those between 18 and 46 years (285) and those between 47 and 83 years (244). Mental performance was assessed at multiple points during follow- up.

The researchers found that the subjects' initial blood pressures were inversely related to mental performance over time. Moreover, the degree of blood pressure-related mental decline was similar for both age groups.

The findings emphasize the importance of treating high blood pressure promptly, Elias pointed out. "We shouldn't hesitate to treat younger people," he added.

Harold Mouncehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16779646417947746886noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9969581.post-1105651248039775842005-01-13T11:46:00.000-08:002005-01-13T13:20:48.040-08:00Are Doctors Knocking the Shine Off Our Golden Years?Too many times when I go to the Doctor all I get is an ear inspection, a blood pressure check and my temperature taken. Then a prescription is hurriedly written and with a firm goodbye, he is out the door. Leaving me to cope once again with one or more side effects, which may or may not include dizziness, bad eyesight, nausea or just the plain “blahs”.

You may have guessed that I am one of the elderly who feels as many other elderly people do, that doctors are treating us while riding by on a galloping horse. They may never tell their patients, but I suspect it is because of Medicare. Not only are Medicare payments lower that other insurance companies, the paper work costs the doctors an extra expense.

I have never received any nutritional advice or recommendation about nutrition.

I had cancer of the colon several years ago. I feared the worst, as most cancer patients do, and was determined to keep my weight up. I had seen so many cancer patients waste away that it had been chiseled into my psyche that I should not lose weight. Through a nutritional supplement, given to me by a friend, I overcame the nausea and thereby kept a fairly good appetite. By eating, my energy level increased and that also helped my appetite.

I was going to a heart specialist at the same time and she chided me for being heavy. I am 6’ 3” and at that time weighed 235 pounds. At the end of my chemo, my oncologist told me that it was rare for someone on chemo to gain a little weight, but I had.

The point is, I don’t think doctors have any street smarts. I don’t think the medical schools are addressing our current day problems. Not for the elderly…not for anyone.
At a time when drugs are at an all time unaffordable high, a time when health insurance companies have increased their premiums while increasing deductibles and dropping coverage on certain conditions, when the health of the elderly has been trampled by the almighty dollar, less expensive treatment is being ignored.

77 million baby boomers are turning grayer by the day. They aren’t like their fathers and grandfathers who accepted their age without response. These baby boomers want to continue to be active. They want to feel good and look good. Believe me they can’t do it all on prescription drugs.

The food supply is less nutritious each passing year. Crops are grown over and over on the same land and the produce gets weaker and weaker. That is why food supplements are such a hit. They work! You feel better after taking them. Plus, you are rebuilding a damaged immune system and your chances of fighting off disease are much improved.

Your father’s father knew better. Even the Bible refers to resting the land 7 years. That may be extreme with today’s knowledge building up the soil by crop rotation and legumes.
You need to see about saving yourself and start taking a food supplement. I take Risotriene, a food supplement principally derived from the outer hull of a rice kernel. The people of India knew of this secret for eons. It could never be commercialized because it would go rancid within hours of being milled. Then a breakthrough by some doctors in California introduced a vegetable enzyme that would give the product a 3-year shelf life. It is now sold through distributorships all across the nation.

It appears that we are going to have to help ourselves when it comes to our health and quality of life. Here is what I am doing. You feel free to do the same:

• Enjoy eating. Don’t try to diet, or count calories. Eat for fun. Just hold down he quantities.
• Take brisk walks. No ambling along. We need to pant a little bit. If your health does not permit brisk walks. Take slow walks. Pace yourself, but get out there.
• Don’t always go looking for a pill.
• Feel good about yourself. Don’t worry so much about thinning hair, wrinkles or liver spots. You are forgiven because you have earned every blemish.
• Retirement is not the end. Stay busy, stay focused.
• Pursue your hobbies or interests. Consider writing a weekly column. At least try. You have a lot to share with younger people.
• Keep a good self-esteem. Have good thoughts about yourself. Remember the old saw, “Do you sing because you are happy, or are you happy because you sing?”

The emphasis must be on preventative medicine rather than drugs and more drugs. Nature can still provide us with much of what we need to protect ourselves. We will always need doctors. They can do a lot toward keeping us alive. So far, they have not offered much toward helping us live a quality life.

I am 72 years old. I have had a heart valve replaced; a cancerous tumor removed from my Colon and have recovered from severe bleeding ulcers. After all of this, I finally decided that food supplements were really important. I have been out of chemo for the cancer 5 years. The Rice Bran food supplement called Risotriene gets my thanks for getting through the chemo and keeping me cancer free .I decided to act on my “second chance” and from a small home based business I now operate 5 small companies from a suite of offices in Greenville, Texas. One of my businesses is distributing the Risotriene and other food supplements and natural products for various ailments. I not only need more income than my retirement was providing, I need to be active. Anyone wishing to do this too should click on the link to my website, or call me at 800-253-9517. I will be glad to answer any questions you might have.
Harold Mounce

Harold Mouncehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16779646417947746886noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9969581.post-1105393058782259182005-01-10T13:36:00.000-08:002005-01-10T13:37:38.783-08:00World's Strongest Natural Anti-OxidantThe outer hull of the Rice kernel has been found to contain 106 anti-oxidants plus, all of the vitamin B, C, A, D, and K. As such, its mission was to support the body in reconstruction of damaged or aging tissues, restore joint and muscle function and lubricate well-worn body tissues.

If you watch television or read magazines, I am sure that you have become aware of the tragic news that Vioxx has been pulled from the pharmacies shelves by Merck, the manufacturer of Vioxx. Vioxx is reported to cause heart ailments, heart attacks, stroke and sudden death as well as hospitalization of 150,000. At first, the drug industry was very excited about Vioxx and Celebrex, both of where were designed to treat the various forms of arthritis by inhibiting a pro-inflammatory enzyme known as cyclooxhease-2 )COX-2), while not interfering the COX-1 enzyme, which is responsible for supporting the production of the protective coating found in the gastrointestinal tract. Since gastric bleeding (related to the over-use of prescription and OTC anti-inflammatories) is responsible for approximately 20,000 deaths and 2 million hospitalizing each year from gastric bleeding, you can begin to see the importance of being very specific in which enzyme is inhibited.

Tragically, these victims had no way of protecting themselves. Nearly all drugs have side effects and it seems safer to take a natural formula such as Collastin than risk death, stroke or even hospitalization.

Enter Enzyrest, with Collastin, the natural alternative to drugs.

Enzyrest (enzyme-arresting) is a complex of plant nutrients, or phytochemicals, that have been found to inhibit the COX-2 enzyme and other important enzymes that are implicated in the degenerative, inflammatory process related to all damaged or aging tissues. All of this is accomplished with NO adverse side effects.

Harold Mouncehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16779646417947746886noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9969581.post-1104946196725167722005-01-05T09:25:00.000-08:002005-01-10T13:33:03.273-08:00World's Strongest Natural Anti-OxidantThe outer hull of the Rice kernel has been found to contain 106 anti-oxidants plus, all of the vitamin B, C, A, D, and K.
