Each team had to design and build a dog house. The houses were placed on 2nd street here in Austin and auctioned off for charity through a silent auction. Our dog house sold for $200 to a nice older couple but the Barkitecture judges gave our house "best in show". Galveston is already getting pounded by massive waves and landfall is still around 24 hours away.Just to let you know. The entire population of Galveston could be relocated to higher ground and housed in Exo shelter units for around 71 million dollars. That is no amount to sneeze atmcdanyelnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-991587915978000388.post-90392181498588505532008-09-08T20:59:00.003-05:002008-09-08T21:27:58.148-05:00Hurricane IkeAnother major hurricane is now entering the gulf. This time however it seems to be headed directly at Texas. Looks like the Exo prototype may get a soft test after all. I guess the media will not be too interested in this hurricane because it appears that it will miss New Orleans. The media abandoned the story of Hurricane Gustav after the landfall since New Orleans' levies held. Most of you also know that for 3 years now I have been hammering away in my spare time with my own designs for an emergency housing system to eliminate the mass population displacement and poor aid response we saw after Katrina. I have spent a lot of blood, mcdanyelnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-991587915978000388.post-8764009048849563542008-04-19T15:20:00.007-05:002008-04-19T15:35:19.680-05:00Joining Frog DesignAfter almost 5 great years at fd2s, I will be joining frog design in May as a Senior Designer. I thought it was a strong enough solution to actually pursue instead of leaving it to my sketchbook and computer. So for several years I have chased numerous politicians and disaster relief organizations in an effort to mcdanyelnoreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-991587915978000388.post-71074798375575909652008-03-24T13:05:00.006-05:002008-03-27T20:50:40.681-05:00The Otto driving systemI was doing a few updates to my portfolio pages this weekend when I realized that I never uploaded any video of my Otto driving system. A poster I designed quickly one afternoon made it as Number 74 this year. I was a little disappointed that no shadowing was added to my image like the other posters so readers could see the die cut eyes and mouth of the jack-o-lantern on the poster. It’s OK though. I decided to enter the Step Inside 100 for the first time in a few years and actually got some work in! I entered two logos and a poster I designed this year. Two of three pieces are in the 100 for this year. What would happen if it turned northward towards Texas and hit the U.S. directly? Would we be prepared now?
