Ok, so I thought it would be fun this time around if we all threw our names in a hat, and, we literally threw names in a hat, and picked, and whoever you got, was the individual you were to caricature. So, here are the names.
I (Justin Coffee) picked Justin Lee.
Justin Lee picked Dan Helle.
Dan Hell picked Dave Dick.
Dave Dick gets Justin Coffee.

Also Dan brought up the idea of trying to make these all fit into some sort of banner. So if any of you have any thoughts in how we can accomplish that throw them out there. Until than post whatever the hell you want in the form of a caricature. I will post a few tonight.

K, so I reworked the drawing and with the help of some heavyduty PS manipulation I managed to destroy it. I post this as a testament to my lazyness in this latest jam and my ineptitude with PS. I could go on and on about everything that's NOT working in this piece but instead I'll let you all judge. I hope I can pull this all together one day as it could have potential....ahhhh, optimism.

Exploitation/Grindhouse Movie Poster Jam!

Well now that that's been established, onto the first order at hand...our first JAM!!!

We're gonna start big, the objective, to design a movie poster in the style of exploitation/grindhouse movies of the past. We have 3 weeks to do it, posters must be finished Friday the 11th and all posters must be complete pieces of art.

Every jam we do here on The Pencil Sluts blog will be an opportunity for us to push ourselves artistically in directions we may not normally venture in our day to day drawings. Not only that, but to attack them with artistic ferocity, professionalism, and an intent to create art that we can be proud of and is portfolio ready!

The title of the film for the poster is " Chainsaw Cheerleaders of Delta Gamma DIE!!!" and all posters must be of the same movie. Feel free to post progress stuff for crits by us and others along the way, actually it's encouraged. So yeah...1,2,3...GO!!!

So good ol' Dan Helle invited me to join this classy blog and I was super excited to do so. Like mentioned earlier, it's a great oppertunity to grow and push one another artistically and that's a real slice of heaven. I can always find time for something like that - especially with these stand-up guys.

My name is Dave and I'm a Designer and Story Artist at Rainmaker Animation. In my free time I'm working on a graphic novel, a short animated film, and a sketchbook's on the way. We're very lucky to have a chance to do what we love for a living and it shouldn't be wasted - so let's get to the drawing (and maybe learn a little on accident...)

As deliciously stated by my fellow chums.....this blog is dedicated to helping us push ourselves as artists and take our art to a new level....it's an opportunity i'm grateful to be a part of and an opportunity that i can't wait to take part in.

That said!.....I'm a character designer/flash animator at a studio in Miramichi NB. Watercolor and Pen are my mediums of choice...
I've currently got several short films on the go...one of which is roughly 3/4 finished and
I've also been entertaining the idea of putting together a sketchbook...

Well...Justin really put it out perfectly, we want to grow and keep growing as artists, creatively as a group and individually. This is our outlet and it's awesome.

Me, I'm Dan Helle. I work as a Senior Creative at an animation studio in the Maritimes, I am a Classical Animator and Designer and it's where my heart is. I am currently working on a short film on my own time outside of work and draw constantly. I am also putting together a sketchbook and really just trying to get myself out there and grow.

Introducing Justin Coffee

Well since I came up with the idea for this blog I guess it is only fitting to take the plunge and make the first post. The intention behind this blog, is to bring and keep up the intensity. To not let the mundane of a 9-5 keep us down and keep pushing ourselves and each other artistically in order to bring about rewarding outcomes. To be able to look back on life and be happy with what we have done, that is the most any person could ask for. Who am I ? I am Justin Coffee, full time artist, part time loverboy. The first half being true. I am a freelance designer, and currently a full time employee at Fatkat animation studios as an animation designer. Currently I am also halfway through putting together a book that is both an homage and a pet project of mine, which will consist of my own classic single panel gag pinups, in the tradition of the great pinup artist of early Playboy and the other lesser known artists from other mens magazines. This blog will document that as well as other art challenges and jams between us 4 artists. I hope you find it in yourself to keep coming back to visit, and check out what we have in store. Enjoy!
