A worker at one of the Warsaw orthopedic company Zimmer’s plants was in critical condition at last report after what company officials call a “furnace fire” yesterday afternoon. Reports indicate that the man was one of three workers who were injured and that he suffered burns from head to toe. A helicopter flew him to a Fort Wayne hospital. State Police have arrested a 36-year-old Kendallville woman for allegedly committing sexual misconduct while a community corrections officer in Steuben County. The charges allege that the woman had a sexual relationship with a man she was supervising on home detention.

Northern Indiana Public Service Company has announced an increase in natural gas prices. The price for September will be 15-point-one percent higher than what customers paid in August. The utility blames an increase in the wholesale price of natural gas.

Police say a 23-year-old Galveston man has confessed to robbing the Lake City Bank branch in Silver Lake last June. It’s the same man who faces charges of holding up a North Manchester bank in July. He’s in the Wabash County Jail.

A Huntington County crash involving a semi and a car has killed a 45-year-old Andrews woman. Huntington County police say Tena Andrews apparently drove her car into the path of the semi on State Road Nine at County Road 200 South. She died at the scene. The trucker was not injured.

Drug company Pfizer has agreed to pay Indiana nearly three point seven million dollars to settle allegations of kickback payments and illegal off-marketing campaigns. The settlement is part of an out-of-court agreement between Pfizer, the federal government and several state governments.

Space shuttle astronauts woke up Tuesday morning to the sound of the Indiana University fight song. Astronaut Kevin Ford, who is a Hoosier, had requested the wake-up in honor of his late brother, David C. Ford, an IU alumnus and former state senator. Police it appears that 37-year-old Plymouth resident James Vician was feeding tree limbs into a chipper and got pulled into the machine. But officials were unable to positively identify the tree company employee from remains at the scene.

Fire broke out at “Pit Stop Pizza” in Churubusco early this morning. Firefighters from two departments were on the scene for about an hour-and-a-half. No injuries were reported.

The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department revealed late yesterday morning that police arrested a 35-year-old New Paris man in Warsaw Monday on a preliminary charge of possessing methamphetamine within a thousand feet of a school.

North Manchester police say they’ve solved the robbery of the town’s First Financial Bank Branch July 16th. As a result of their investigation, Wabash County’s prosecutor has a charged a 23-year-old Galveston man with the crime. The man was already in jail on unrelated charges.

State police say they arrested a Michigan man after a traffic stop in LaGrange for possessing a cereal box full of marijuana. The man displayed a card that allows him to grow and possess marijuana for medical use in Michigan, but police say it’s still illegal for him to have the drug in Indiana.

A 28-year-old Marion man died Saturday after falling from a boat in to Mississinewa Lake in southern Wabash County. Conservation officers later recovered the man’s body in 28 feet of water. The man had not been wearing a personal flotation device.

The Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office has filed theft charges against a member of a teenage band who allegedly stole two golf carts from a Pierceton campground. Police say the thefts were in retaliation because the band found out they weren’t actually booked to play at the campground after they arrived from the Northwestern Indiana city of Munster.

Wabash County’s prosecutor will ask a grand jury to determine whether charges of murder or involuntary manslaughter are appropriate in the July death of 36-year-old rural Wabash resident Lisa Pattison. Pattison’s husband told police he found her unconscious in their home July 2nd.

Indiana State Police photo The driver of a UPS semi truck died yesterday when the truck crashed head-on into a concrete overpass support on U-S 31 at State Road 14 in Rochester. The crash forced state police to partially close U-S 31 for about 12 hours while workers cleaned up debris.

A crash on Old State Road 15 southeast of Wabash last night injured two Wabash residents, one critically. Police say 16-year-old Rickena Haines lost control of her car and crashed nearly head-on into a car driven by 50-year-old Albert McMillan. At last report, McMillan was in critical condition at a Fort Wayne hospital.

Police say a man in a car led them on a chase through parts of Whitley and Kosciusko Counties last night at speeds of up to 90 miles an hour. It started when a state trooper tried to pull the driver over on State Road Five. It ended with the car crashing into a cornfield near Webster Lake and the driver disappearing on foot.
