Of course, the natural colors and textures of the log and timber construction dominates the interior spaces. The objective was to treat the sheetrocked walls in a way that augmented the rustic patina inherent in the construction, and serve as a soft compliment to the organic materials in the space.<br /></span><br /><p><a href="http://bp1.blogger.com/_rTh38pbF5vQ/R4y8O8J4x-I/AAAAAAAAAxA/20PFg1w8qjc/s1600-h/foyersmall.jpg"><span style="font-family:arial;"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5155702638284163042" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_rTh38pbF5vQ/R4y8O8J4x-I/AAAAAAAAAxA/20PFg1w8qjc/s320/foyersmall.jpg" border="0" /></span></a><span style="font-family:arial;"> Soft pale colorwash near the front entrance. I'll be posting these images in the coming weeks. Generally I'll take a few quick shots when I finish my portion of a room, but it may take some time longer for a room to be fully finish, as with this powder room project from 2004. The project is located in Yorktown Heights NY. I worked on the paneling on the bottom half of the room, and the crown moulding at the ceiling. The designer, </span><a href="http://renaanns.blogspot.com/" style="font-family: arial;">Rena Wilhelm</a><span style="font-family: arial;">, stipulated a sort of faux bois effect, but using a bronze metallic glaze. Between the treatment on the paneling, and the wallpaper, the transformation of the room is dramatic, and of another time.</span><br /> <br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/2620/267/1600/main%20view.jpg" style="font-family: arial;"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/2620/267/320/main%20view.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/2620/267/1600/sink%20closeup.jpg" style="font-family: arial;"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/2620/267/320/sink%20closeup.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/2620/267/1600/Mirror%20shot.jpg" style="font-family: arial;"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/2620/267/320/Mirror%20shot.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><span style="font-family: arial;">The mirror also received some antiquing.<br /><br /> </span><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/2620/267/1600/crown%20detail.jpg" style="font-family: arial;"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/2620/267/320/crown%20detail.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><span style="font-family: arial;">The crown moulding features the same treatment as the paneling, along with a touch of gilding to highlight some some of the moulding details<br /><br /> </span><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/2620/267/1600/before%20shot.jpg" style="font-family: arial;"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/2620/267/200/before%20shot.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><span style="font-family: arial;">The before shot.</span>cralbertnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9525538.post-1132791073167294212005-11-23T16:05:00.000-08:002005-11-23T16:11:13.166-08:00I just returned from Colorado where I worked on a couple of residential projects and a small mural for the Denver restaraunt, <a href="http://www.lecentral.com/">Le Central</a> seen below. In the decorative realm, I have done a couple of small projects in Manhattan, one of which is still ongoing. The mad rush of art making will subside in the next week or so, and I will begin working on another project.<br /><br />In the meantime, a rundown of my activities of the past months can be found <a href="http://chrisalbert.blogspot.com/">here.</a>cralbertnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9525538.post-1109805554783378772005-03-02T15:19:00.001-08:002005-03-02T15:23:31.423-08:00Colorwash foyer, and ceiling<a href='http://photos1.blogger.com/img/19/2131/640/done%20foyer%206.jpg'><img border='0' style='border:1px solid #000000; margin:2px' src='http://photos1.blogger.com/img/19/2131/320/done%20foyer%206.jpg'></a><br /><br />These photos are of a project done this past fall in Briarcliff, NY. Below are photos from one of the projects; creating a painted finish on the two story fireplace in a loft in Downtown Denver.<br /><br />The objective was to create a focal point that would enhance, and define the sitting area within the larger open space, without greatly encroaching upon the clean white backdrop of the loft. The majority of the loft remains white, retaining the spare industrial feel of the home, while some other intimate niches have been carved from the main space using deeper colors in the bedroom, and office.<br /><br /><a href="http://photos1.blogger.com/img/19/2131/640/belden%20fireplace%20before.jpg"><img border="0" style="border: 1px solid rgb(0, 0, 0); margin: 2px;" src="http://photos1.blogger.com/img/19/2131/320/belden%20fireplace%20before.jpg" /></a><br /><br />We wanted to create a look that would build upon the richness of fabrics and objects in the client's collection.<br /><br />I created a stencil based on a patterned throw belonging to the client.<br /><a href="http://photos1.blogger.com/img/19/2131/640/fireplace%20stencil.jpg"><img border="0" style="border: 1px solid rgb(0, 0, 0); margin: 2px;" src="http://photos1.blogger.com/img/19/2131/320/fireplace%20stencil.jpg" /></a><br /><br />The resulting finish carries rich tones of color onto the wall complimenting the textures, and color in the living area. The stenciled pattern is extremely subtle; emerging, and disappearing under thin washes of browns and reds, giving the impression of a worn tapestry, or aged wallpaper. The disintegration of the color is meant to reinforce the human scale of the sitting area while softening the transition into the broader, open layout of the home.
