1. The Isolation - Dancing Away (All Heroes Are Dead)

This is the track I keep coming back to from the Swedish bands self titles debut ep.

2. Abner Jay - Cocaine (Mississippi Records)

This record is superb. If you have never heard Abner Jay then you need to hear this album. The original "Brandie Records" recordings are either impossible to find or would require mortgage to secure if you did. This then is a pretty important collection. As far as I'm aware it's only available on vinyl which to be honest is the only way to listen to this kind of thing anyway. I think you can still get the "One Man Band" cd from Amazon but this is the one you need. It's called "The True Story Of Abner Jay" and you will certainly hear more from this record in future Fodders.

3. The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart - Say No To Love (Live)

A new song from the band who can do no wrong. 2009 has been the year of The Pains and rightly so. They have delivered us one of the best debut albums of recent years and are very impressive live as can be demonstrated elsewhere on this site. This is a live version of a new track which may or may not appear on the next album which hopefully won't be too far away.

4. Elisa Luu - D G (Ipologica)

Taken from an ep which appears to be called "IPO//13" which of course is also its catalogue number.

5. Miss Halliwell - Let's Do Business (Shabby)

Fantastic new single from Miss Halliwell. You can download it from www.shabbyrecords.co.uk along with a single buy Hans Gruber.

6. Brakes - Cease & Desist (Fat Cat)

Another track from the current live album "Rock Is Dodelijk".

7. The Ravonettes - The Chosen One (Vice)

I'm loving this track at the moment. Not entirely sure if it's just some kind of bonus track or a new single but whatever it is it sounds bloody good on my ipod.

8. The Fall - Slippy Floor (Mark Mix) (Action)

And just when you thought 2009 was going to be one of those rare, baron years which have to be survived without any new stuff from The Fall a new single pops it's head up and instantly the world is transformed into a beautiful place. It's a three track affair which also features "Hot Cake 2" which is good and a live version of "Strangetown". If you want one of these messianic items you will need to pop over to the Action Records site where you will be able to find salvation.

10. Red Cortez - Fell On The Floor (Self Released)

This track is taken from the California band's current "Hands To The Wall" ep. The band are currently on tour in the U.S. with The Airborne Toxic Event.

11. Grouper - Pale Through (Roots Strata)

This track is taken from a seven inch single which Grouper share with Xela called "Tsuki No Seika Volume One". It's limited to 300 copies which are available by subscription only and is intended to be the first in a set of four records which will form a boxed set.

12. Gardeners Question Time - I Saw God (mp3)

This mp3 appeared in my inbox a few days ago. It's by the wonderfully named Gardeners Question Time. Unfortunately their myspace page doesn't give up any secrets so all I can tell you is they come from somewhere in the UK and this track is mint!

Great gig this. Slightly bad tempered due to what can only be described as a tricky audience and the sound could be a bit better but then is was twenty years ago when tape recorders were massive and you had to sneak them into gigs down the front of your pants. Despite everything this is one of my favorite bootlegs ever.

Right then, it's been at least a couple of weeks since we heard anything from The Fall which is clearly too long so to put that right here are two recent sets. The first was recorded at Renfrew Ferry in Glasgow on 13th November and the second set at Manchester, Moho three days earlier. Superb stuff all round and as usual a massive debt of gratitude is owed to those nice people who hide microphones around their genitalia.

1. Brakes - Porcupine Or Pineapple (Fat Cat)

I must admit I'm quite into Brakes at the moment. This track somes from the Brighton band's new live album "Rock Id Dodelijk" which was recorded between two shows, Brighton August 2008) and Cologne (May 2009) and, it has to be said sounds pretty damn fantastic.

Brakes blasted onto what I tentatively call "the scene" last year with the release of their impressive debut album "Touchdown" and have nearly made me crash my car on two occasions since then. They have just released a new single "Why Tell The Truth/Worry About It Later" also through Fat Cat and if you downloaded last weeks Fodder you will already have heard a track from it.

New single from Sloth Bear. I'm looking forward to hearing the new album "Qids" which will be released shortly.

3. Electrojuice - Panpan (VUF)

Taken from the Danish duo's debut album "Solrok" which apparently is named after a Pokomon.

4. Animal Collective - Brother Sport (Domino)

This is a track from the new Animal Collective 10" which was released last week through Domino. Animal Collective will release a new EP on the label entitled "Fall Be Kind" on 14th December.

5. Schlomo - Socks (Error Broadcast)

Taken from the "Shlo-Fi" ep which is available now through Error Broadcast.

6. Pixies - No 13 Baby (4AD)

Released back in 1989, yes I know it doesn't seem like twenty years. This is one of my favourite tracks from the album "Doolittle".

7. Guitar - Hira Hira (And Records)

Taken from the new album "Friends" which is only physically available in Japan but you van get the mp3's via i-tunes. Guitar consist of Michael Lueckner & Ayako Akashiba and have completely passed me by. There appears to be about six previous records to investigate and I think I need all of them. The dog in the picture by the way is Ayako's dog "Sakura".

8. The Raincoats - No-one's Little Girl (Blast First)

I've included this track simply because Mr Vicent reminded me about them last time we went out for a beer. It's taken from the "Extended Play" ep which was recorded in 1994 when the band had re-formed to support Nirvana. Unfortunately Kurt Cobain departed before they got a chance to do that. They recorded these tracks as a Peel Session in April 1994 and subsequently released them as the "Extended Play" ep later in the year. I think this version of "No-one's Little Girl" is just perfect.

9. Fredricson - Rub (Preco)

I can't tell you very much about this at all aside from it comes from an album which appears to be called "Misc".

10. Beauty Feast - Soon We'll Know (Vanity Imprint)

It doesn't get much cuter than this.

11. Oppressed By The Line - Sunset From The Sixteenth Floor (Winterlight Remix)

Aaahhhh that's better. Taken from the "Kiku" ep. Recommended!

It's been a while since we had a really old set on Burning World. Back in the early 1990's I was quite into the whole Sarah Records thing and still occasionally dig out old records when the mood takes. Bootlegs of Sarah bands have always been a bit thin on the ground and if anyone out there has any please get in touch.

This is a set by one of the more prolific Sarah bands. The Orchids come from Glasgow and released their debut single "I've Got A Habit" on Sarah (Sarah 2) back in 1988. I think the first record I bought by them was a lovely 10" mini album called "Lyceum". At one point I used to collect 10" records just because they look so good on the turntable. Between 1988 and 1994 The Orchids released seven singles and three albums on the Sarah label before vanishing into the abyss. They did re-emerge a couple of years ago with a new album called "Good To Be A Stranger" but the less said about that the better.

1. Surfer Blood - Floating Vibes (Kanine)

This track comes from the debut album from Surfer Blood who I assume are a bunch of students from Florida judging by the fact that the album was recorded in their University Of Florida dorm room. Thinking about it quite a few classic debut albums have been recorded in cheap places for not very much money. The Fall have been doing it for years! The album is called "Astro Coast" and will be released through Kanine on 19th January.

2. The Joy Formidable - Greyhounds In The Slips (Self Released)

This track is available as a free download from the bands myspace page and is the first new track released since their superb "A Balloon Called Moaning" mini album earlier in the year. As I mentioned on the live recordings which you can download further down this page they will release an official live album called "First You Have To Get Mad" on 16th November and this too can be downloaded from the bands myspace.

3. Rye n' Clover - Black Hoody Dreams ()

Taken from the album "Pencils, Paper & Scissors".

4. Four Tet - Love Cry (Domino)

Every week there seems to be one record which jumps out and kicks me in the nuts. This week it's the new Four Tet single. While I have quite enjoyed some of their previous stuff "Love Cry" is, in my opinion their best work to date. A nine minute monster which in a sensible world would be pumping out over dancefloors worldwide. "Love Cry" will be released through Domino Records (the new home of The Fall) on 8th December. The information I have, which is probably entirely wrong suggests that it will only be released on vinyl, and why not.

5. Fuck Buttons - Olympians (ATP)

I expect you're all on first name terms with this album by now but there still may be a few strange creatures who are unaware that the album "Tarot Sport" has life giving properties and therefore should be secreted somewhere around your person at all times. I have opted to carry mine in my ipod but the choice is yours.

6. Brilliant Colors - Short Sleeves At Night (Slumberland)

Another winner from the Slumberland stable. The album is simply entitled "Introducing..." and will be available from next week.

7. Brakes - Why Tell The Truth (When It's Easier To Lie) (Fat Cat)

This is one side of the Brigton bands new AA sided single. The other track is called "Worry About It Later" and will be released through Fat Cat next week.

This track comes from the Bristol band's self titled debut album which is available now through Invada Records. They have some UK dates coming up next month and I think they'll be well worth checking out.

11. Slicnaton - Suite Life (Extemporate)

Very strange record this. Not the easiest listen but well worth an hour of your time. I turned it up really loud and one of the cats went into the next room and hid under the bed.

12. Freelance Whales - Location (Self Released)

Sometimes it's nice to get an album which is just... well, nice. "Weathervanes" is the title of the debut offering by the well named Freelance Whales. Apart from anything else, how often do you get a song title with a ^ in it?

13. Phantogram - Running From The Cops (Barely Breaking Even)

Am I just imagining it or did there used to be a particularly hideous heavy metal band calledPhantogram? If there did then please do not confuse them with this Phantogram who hail from New York and have produced a damn good album called "Eyelid Movies". I suspect it may already be available in the states but it will finally get a European release on 18th January.

14. The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart - Higher Than The Stars (Others In Conversation Remix) (Fortuna Pop)

2009 has been a fantastic year for The Pains. They have given us a classic debut album some great singles and wherever they play someone always seems to be on hand to record it. This track is a remix of the lead track on their recent "Higher Than The Stars" EP and is better than the Saint Etienne remix which can be found on the CD version of that. It's also available on theFortuna Pop website which I recommend you visit forthwith.

Why have one when you can have two? Both of these sets were recorded on the bands recent UK tour supporting Passion Pit. I for one can't wait until their new album is complete but if you can't wait that long pop over to their myspace page where you can download a brand new track "Greyhounds In The Slips" and pre order their forthcoming live album which was recorded in September at The Garage in London Town and will be of far superior quality to the recordings below. The live album is called "First You Have To Get Mad" and will be released on 16th November. It's limited to just 500 copies and costs just six quid so you'd better get your skates on.

The band are currently touring Europe with The Temper Trap.

A superb set from the New York trio. Recorded at the superbly named Cowboy Monkey which apparently is in Champaign, Illinois in support of their brilliant second album "Everything Goes Wrong" which was released through In The Red records in September. Things get quite amusing after two songs when thing go a bit pear shaped on the technical front but all in all a great set and a good introduction to the band if you're not familiar with them. If you like this you'll love the records...

4. Broken Note - Mortal Bass (Ad Noiseam)

Definitely one of the best records I've heard this week. There isn't a bad track on here and you can bet you'll be hearing more from this album in future fodders. The album is called "Terminal Static" and will be released through Ad Noiseam on 27th October.

6. Moussa Clarke - Regret (2 Special Remix) (Self Released)

Moussa Clark is a London based DJ, producer and remixer who also runs a thing called Oven Ready about which information is scarce but I live in hope that someone will let me in on the secret. There is quite a lot of stuff available for download from Moussa's site. I haven't listened to it all myself yet but what I have heard is pretty damn fine.

7. Johnny Foreigner - Dark Harbourzz (Best Before)

Probably one of the hardest working bands in the UK. They just always seem to be touring. They have however found the time to record the follow up to last years "Waited Up Till It Was Light" album. The new record celebrates under the rather cumbersome moniker of "Grace & The Bigger Picture" but once you get past that it is well worth the effort. Whereas some of their peers have started the journey towards more commercially acceptable sounds Johnny Foreigner seem to have just thought sod them and gone and made a bloody good record. "Grace & The Bigger Picture" was released last week on Best Before.

8. Relation - Here Comes Your Man (Urban Torque)

Yes it is that "Here Comes Your Man", originally recorded in 1989 by The Pixies. This version is taken from the album "Fear Of Night" which was released sometime last month (sorry, I'm a bit behind on my e-mails).

9. Boris - Heavy Metal Addict (H.M.A.) (Southern Lord)

I always get excited when a new Boris record appears, mainly because you never know what to expect. This track is taken from a seven inch single entitled "Japanese Heavy Rock Hits Vol. 2" which is the second of three 7" singles in the "Japanese Heavy Rock Hits" series which comes to an end next month with the third and final instalment of the series.

10. Hecuba - Miles Away (Manimal Vinyl)

Taken from the album "Paradise".

11. Tender Trap - Fireworks (Fortuna Pop)

Just in time for bonfire night. It's always nice to hear Amelia Fletcher back in action. This is the lead track on the new Tender Trap single which can be downloaded, together with the b-side "Grand National" which is just as good as this track from the Fortuna Pop website.

Someone who is known only as "k" asked if anyone recorded the Nightingales support slot for The Fall in Leeds and I'm delighted to be able to report that Mr Focker did!!!

I must confess to knowing absolutely nothing about Nightingales apart from the fact they come from Birmingham and have being around donkeys years and sound pretty nice.

I really wish I hadn't being stuck down in Peterborough that day.

A very decent innings from the Saints recorded live in Suffolk at the Latitude Festival which also included the likes of Kap Bambino, Sky Larkin & Fight Like Apes on the bill. The Pet Shop Boys were there as well and sadly failed to bump into any maniacs with machetes, maybe next year.

It seems like far too long since we last engaged in some Smith worship so let's put that to rights. I was actually supposed to be going to this gig but as luck would have it found myself in Peterborough on that day so it was impossible. That sort of thing always seems to happen when The Fall visit my neck of the woods. They played in my home town of York last year on the only day for months I wasn't in the City. Still at least there always seems to be someone ready to record the proceedings and share with the rest of us. Credit for this one goes to Mr/Mrs Foxyducker for whom, if I had my way a knighthood would be just around the corner.

A very good performance by the mighty ones with "Bury" sounding particularly fine. Really can't wait for the new album which looks likely to be released in January making 2009 one of those rare years without a new Fall album. 1. Part Chimp - Dirty Sun (Rock Action)

This is a track from the new Part Chimp album which has just been issued on Mogwai's "Rock Action" label. The album is called "Thriller and is one of those records which you would never really talk about but is a bloody good listen.

2. Toro y Moi - Left Alone At Night (Drop The Lime Remix) (The Savant Guard)

This has been around for a while but managed to slip through the net. It's one of four mixes on an EP which I think was released back in March.

3. High Wolf - Utopia (Winged Sun)

I can't tell you very much about this record at all. It's taken from a CD-R called "Incapulco" by High Wolf who, if his myspace page is anything to go by was born in the Amazon jungle. It appears there is a previous release called "Animal Totem" which sounds like it needs to live in my house and I will certainly try and get hold of a copy.

4. Sea Wolf -Wicked Blood (Dangerbird)

Taken from the Los Angeles artist's new album "White Water, White Bloom".

5. Amusement Parks On Fire - In Our Eyes (Filter)

This track is taken from the new EP "Young Fight" which was released last month as a digital download or if you happen live in the USA you can purchase a proper CD which by all accounts is handmade no less.

6. Cubic Zirconia - Fuck Work (Savant Guard)

This is probably doing the rounds in clubland as we speak and has probably been on you ipod for months but it has only just found it's way to mine and let's face it, it's bloody awesome.

7. Johnny Foreigner - Criminals (Best Before)

This is the new single from Johnny Foreigner which was released last week and will precede the Birmingham bands second album "Grace & The Bigger Picture" which is scheduled for release next week. You certainly can't knock them for effort either because they are one of them bands which seem to be constantly touring and true to form they have a load of dates coming up including York for I think the third time.

8. The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart - Twins (Fortuna Pop)

This is one of the tracks on the New York bands current "Higher Than The Stars" EP. They will be heading back over to our shores in December to play some shows and I'll give you those dates a little closer to the time although you could probably find them on the bands myspace if you are in a rush.

9. Port Royal - Nights In Kiev (n5MD)

Every time I say to Mr Vincent that I've got a really good record by someone they always seem to be already friends of his on myspace and Port Royal are no different. They do seem to have released quite a few records but this is the first thing I have heard from them. It's an album which celebrates under the jolly title of "Dying In Time" and this is currently my favourite track.

10. The Arctic Flow - December Morning (Reverb Nation)

This track has seen a few plays on the new Burning World ipod this week. It comes from a four track EP which you can download for free from Reverb Nation

11. Horse Shoes - I Can't Decide (Shelflife)

If you believe what you read in press releases you could be forgiven for thinking that Horse Shoes are some kind of retro indie jangle band obsessed with bands from fifteen years ago. It really annoys me when reviewers compare bands to ones they grew up with and bear little or no relevance to what is happening today. Horse Shoes are a new (on me anyway) band from Ohio and have created what I would call a mini-album. It's called "The Imperial School" and is available now from the very nice people at Shelflife.

12. The Federals - Take It From Me (Demo)

This lot have been playing around York for what seems like a lifetime but is in actual fact just few years. I first saw them ages ago at Fibbers supporting someone and the fact that I've forgotten who the headline band were but remember The Federals speaks volumes. This track is taken from the bands latest demo.

1. Vowels - Two Wires (Loaf)

Taken from the new album "The Pattern Prism" which was released last week through Loaf Records.

2. Fools Gold - Suprise Hotel (Iamsound)

This is the track I keep coming back to on the new Fools Gold album. To be honest the rest of the album is disappointing but this track is top quality.

3. Lighting Bolt - The Sublime Freak (Load) I always get a little bit excited when a new Lightning Bolt record lands on my doormat. The new album "Earthly Delights" will be released through Load on 12th October and is an absolute treat. I'm not sure what old style thrash fans will make of it but the band have gone a little bit more experimental and I think they sound great. I could have sworn I played a track from this record a couple of weeks ago but looking back through previous track listings it appears that I forgot so it's time to put that right.

4. Vivian Girls - Tension (In The Red)

This track comes from the second Vivian Girls album "Everything Went Wrong" which will be available as of this very week.

5. The Ravonettes - Gone Forever (Vice)

For some reason The Ravonettes seem to have passed me by. I do quite like the new album though. It's called "In & Out Of Control" and will be released through Vice next month.

6. Altair Nouveau - Death on Four Wheels (E-Music)

Taken from the "Dark Energy" EP which as far as I can see is only available from E-Music.

7. Fuck Buttons - Space Mountain (ATP)

Yes this is it, the one you've been waiting for. I was a bit apprehensive about listening to the new Fuck Buttons album because I've been looking forward to it all year and really didn't want to be disappointed. I needn't have worried because the Bristol duo have made a record that beats the living shit out of anything in it's path. "Tarot Sport" is a monster and probably the best record of 2009. I almost hope Fuck Buttons call it a day now because they surely can't improve on this. "Tarot Sport" wil be released through ATP on 5th October.

8. Kurt Vile - Overnite Religion (Matador)

Taken from the album "Childish Prodigy" which will be released through Matador on 5th October.

9. The Platers - Let's Take The World Tonight, Johnny (Indie MP3)

This track comes from the debut EP by London based band The Platers. The record is called "The Second Between Spark And Flame" EP and features five tracks. It's also the latest release on the superb Indie MP3 label and is available from this week as a limited edition CD and of course all of the really boring digital formats of which I'm still not convinced, which is really strange from someone who puts together a digital playlist every week. I guess I like to have something I can hold, like a seven inch slab of plastic.....or a beer.....

10. Squishy Squid - Anorexia (Las Vegas)

Taken from the Austrian bands debut album "Bonjour Tristesse".

11. The Pastels & Tenniscoats - About You (Domino)

This track comes from the collaboration album Two Sunsets which I've been looking forward to for some time. It's available from this week and well worth the effort.

12. Micah P. Hinson - Slow & Steady (Full Time Hobby)

Taken from the album "All Dressed Up & Smelling Of Strangers" which was released by London based label Full Time Hobby this very week.

13. Sennen - Bizarre Love Triangle (Hungry Audio)

The last track in this weeks Fodder comes from Sennen who you might remember provided us with a rather good album called "Where The Light Gets In" some time ago. Well they're back with a new EP called "Destroy Us" which will be released through Hungry Audio on 3rd November and yes it is THAT song. Sorry about the lowish bit rate on this track but that's how it was sent and therefore not my fault (just thought I'd mention it).

1. The Pains of Being Pure At Heart - Higher Than The Stars (Fortuna Pop)

At last, a new single from The Pains who as you may have noticed have made a bi of a splash over the last year or so what with their self-titled debut album which can only be described as "a bit good" and features on just about every blog page in the world. This is the lead track from the new EP which also features another three new songs all of which would have felt at home on the album. If you buy the CD format you will also discover a Saint Etienne (yes they are still going) remix of the title track. If I remember I'll put that in a future Fodder. "Higher Than The Stars" will be released on 5th October.

2. Zorch - Crying During Circumcision Is A Shame To The Whole Village (Demo)

Seriously, with a song title like that it was always going to end up on here!

3. The Voices - Silver Queen (Self Released)

It's quite sad really. This is taken from the second and final Voices album. They have decided to call it a day and their new album "Death Of A Lovers Song" will not be released, which is a shame because it is really quite excellent. Perhaps I should put the whole thing up for dor download on Burning World, at least then it would get heard.

4. T.H. White - Fantasy Pictures (Sky Council)

Taken from the new album "Company Book" which will be released on 29th September.

5. Apteka - Traitors (Self Released)

Very nice new track from Apteka. I'm not sure what their future plans are but if this is anything to go by they will be grand.

6. Bromheads Jacket - Boots (Self Released)

This is a new single from the Sheffield boys. Judging from their website their will be quite a few more to follow. "Bromheads return with a string of secret shows, making appearances in bedrooms, at house parties, in train carriages and anywhere else they can get away with it. They will be releasing a single and a video on the first day of every month for six months, completely free. The first single "Boots" will be released on 1st October and is available from their websitewww.bromheads.tv"

7. Memory Tapes - Bicycle (Memory Tapes)

Taken from the album "Seek Magic".

8. The Octagon - Radio Days (Serious Business)

This is a track from the new EP "Arm Brain Heart and Liver".

9. Tickley Feather - Trashy Boys (Paw Tracks)

The new album "Hors D'Oeuvres" will be released through Paw Tracks on 12th October and features, in my opinion Annie Sachs finest work to date. Apparently the whole thing was recorded in an old dilapidated farmhouse in Shenandoah woods, nice.

10. The Twilight Sad - I Became A Prostitute (Fat Cat)

Scotland may not have qualified for the football World Cup but if their was a competition for producing great band the country would be a superpower. The Twilight Sad return next month with another great album from where this track was plucked. "Forget The Night Ahead" will be released on 5th October through Fat Cat.

11. The Clientele - I Wonder Who We Are (Merge) The Clientele seem to have released tons of records over the last few years most of which have failed to live up to the standard set by their early singles on Elefant records of Madrid. However their new album "Bonfires On The Heath" is a real return to form and is heartily recommended to your ears. It will be released through Merge on 6th October.

12. A Sunny Day In Glasgow - Close Chorus (Mis Ojos Discos)

This could well be the album of the year. It has certainly taken up residence on my i-pod and really needs to be heard by every living soul. It's the second album by A Sunny Day In Glasgow and if you thought their debut "Scribble Mural Comic Journal" was good then you're in for a bit of a treat. "Ashes Grammar" is available now through i-tunes but I suggest you hang on for one more week and that will enable you to get your hands on the vinyl version which consists of two slabs of coloured plastic, one is navy blue and the other is a very nice creamy colour. There are only 250 vinyl copies pressed so you might want to nip over to Mis Ojos Discos and order yours without delay.

13. The Fauns - Cool Stuff (Lazer Ghost Recordings) I was saying to Vincent just yesterday that I really can't remember any crap bands from Bristol. I mean, you think about Manchester, Liverpool and almost anywhere else and the places are littered with dodgy bands who sound like Shed Seven, but not Bristol. The Fauns are the latest Bristolians to come my way and this track is taken from the bands self-titled debut album which will be released on 12th October.

10. The Honorable Worm - I Haven't Gambled At All (Self-Released) Strange stuff indeed. The Honorable Worm appears to have been making records since about 2001 yet this is the first thing I've heard. Taken from the "Not Someone But Some One"EP which is actually more of an album and is at times very strange indeed. Recommended!!!

11. Polvo - Beggars Bowl (Merge) Taken from the new album "In Prism".

12. Epic 45 - We Were Never Here (Make Mine Music) This is the first track on the new Epic 45 EP "In All The Empty Houses" which I think is pretty much superb.

13. Meth Teeth - I Was Wrong (Woodsist) Taken from the happiest album of the week. With song titles like "Unemployment Forever", The World Is Going To End Soon" and "A Thousand Regrets" you know this is not going to be a happy experience but it is a fulfilling one. The bundle of joy is called "Everything Went Wrong" and will be available from 15th September.

14. No Age - Genie (Sub Pop) Another track from the brilliant new No Age record "Losing Feeling". The band will be playing at the Scala in London on 19th October which appears to be their only upcoming date in the UK. I don't think it would be inappropriate for someone to record the gig and send me a copy, not that I could possibly encourage such behaviour... but I do.

15. Disconnect 4 - Disco Never Changes (Self-Released) Taken from the "Modern Love" EP.

16. Soft Circle - Don't Just Stand There (Post Present Medium) This is one of two tracks Soft Circle contribute to a new 12" which they share with High Places. You will be able to hear the High Places Track in next weeks Fodder.

Probably the earliest Birdland bootleg I've heard. Not the best sound in the world but perfectly listenable, which just about sums up the band as well. For all their faults there was always something about Birdland which made them appealing. Perhaps it was their superb "Hollow Heart" single or the fact that they were on Lazy Records or maybe because their debut (and only) album was on lovely white vinyl, regardless they certainly caught my attention.

I really wish more people would check out this venue because as well as having a fine roster of bands coming up it is probably the cutest venue I have ever been in.

Some great tunes for you this week including tracks from the new records by the rather cute Cola Jet Set and the rather brilliant Jackie O Motherfucker who apparently have been around ages and managed to pass me by completely. Talking about bands who have been around since the dawn of time we also have a track from the new Yo La Tengo album which is a bit of a return to form and will be released through Matador on 8th September. One of the highlights this week is a new single by Randan Discotheque which will be released as a seven inch single on 31st August and limited to just 500 copies. The single also acts as some kind of raffle ticket which gives it's owner the chance to win stuff made by the band such as screenprints, t-shirts, flags and whatever else they decide to throw in.

I think it's fair to say the new Sonic Youth album is not the best thing they have ever done but it's still well worth a listen.

No real reason for including this apart from stumbling across it during the week and playing it again. Great single from last year. There is an album called "Duke Type A" which I don't own and will try and find.

These guys remind me so much of early Swervedriver, and believe me that's no bad thing. Taken from the debut album "Loveallover" which is scheduled for release on 4th August

I'm getting more and more excited about the new Fall album by thye day. The new songs seem to sound better with every gig. Songs like "Cowboy George, Bury & Funnel Of Love have already become live favorites and this gig gave a storming debut to "Sloppy Floor" which is simply magnificent. This will be the last Fall gig until October by which time the new album will hopefully be just about here.

On a side note does anybody have a recording of Mark E Smith's recent Q&A session in Huddersfield. I've heard it was hilarious and I will perform painfull experiments with rusty razor blades until a copy is in my possession.

The band will be filming the box's travels across the tour, documenting
