Happy New Year greetings from the Free Will Baptist Hymn Book!

There have been several changes to the Hymn Book since the December Newsletter.

We have received requests to continue with the subscription type of newsletter where people can have the newsletter link delivered to an email account. It is a double opt in subscription where you must confirm from an auto respond email sent to your email. That way nobody gets spammed! That is my number one frustration on line and nobody else will get spammed from here.

There will be an archive developed here so you can always just come and look in the archive of past newsletters. I have to admit a temptation to go back and change newsletters weeks later. It ain't right! I'll do my best to only change typos.

The addition of a Spanish link has spurred more activity of the Hymn Book. I didn't think it would matter because different languages will often be used regardless of the new link. This translation link is often busy but works well when it does.

Advertisements from Google have been placed at the bottom of the home page. Advertisers are paying this site "per click' so please visit them often.

The featured churches link will reappear soon! It was deleted by mistake and will take some time to redo it. This link had a link to randomly selected churches in each state and created traffic between the hymn book and those web sites.

Preface to the Free Will Baptist Hymn Book

Next to the Bible our forefathers cherished most their hymn books. Therein were the words of praise and adoration by which they worshipped God in song. With this in mind, we have chosen to name this hymnal Free Will Baptist Hymn Book. We trust that it will find a place of endearment in the hearts of Free Will Baptists everywhere.

An early Free Will Baptist hymn book published in 1853 reminds us that "Heaven is the seat and home of song. It is not strange therefore that the pious on earth, bending their footsteps thither, anticipating their future employment, should give expression to their religious emotions in hymns of praise. Hence, in all ages of the church, the singing of the songs of Zion has constituted an essential part of worship." This is the tradition of the Free Will Baptist denomination. Singing has always played a large part in our worship. Our congregations are singing congregations. For this reason, the committee desired that this hymn hook be designed especially for congregational singing.

Our effort has been to preserve the hymns and gospel songs which have been most loved and used by Free Will Baptists through the years. Several less familiar hymns have been included which we believe our people will enjoy singing as well as a few new compositions by Free Will Baptists.

Included in the hymn book are 415 carefully selected hymns and songs. These are indexed alphabetically and topically for easy reference and selection. In addition, there are 101 responsive or unison readings selected from the King James Version of the Bible. In compiling these readings, whole passages of Scripture have been used where possible, keeping all portions true to its original context. Proper doxologies, responses and benedictions will also be found. Our Free Will Baptist Church Covenant has been included for use as a responsive or unison reading.

We are taught in God’s Word to sing "psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord" Ephesians 5:19). Singing can be for us worship, the expression of inner feelings, and a means of growth in Christian character and strength. Thus this work goes to the churches with the fervent and sincere prayers of the committee, that it may aid believers in their devotions, tend to elevate and improve the standard of sacred music in our congregations and contribute in no small degree to the advancement and triumphs of our Lord Jesus Christ who is worthy of all praise.

Hello to everyone using the Free Will Baptist Hymn Book.Welcome to the very first edition of the Free Will Baptist Hymn Book Newsletter which is planned to be posted the first week of each month.

There are about one thousand page loads on this site each month! Thank you for your encouragement by making this site a success!

My name is Matt and I am the webmaster at the Free Will Baptist Hymn Book web site. We can use this communication feature to hear of the recent changes being made to this site and upcoming changes as well.

This might be an easy way to manage a newsletter forum. You can just come and look at the archives but please sign up for the newsletter to hear of the recent changes.

There are many features here and it will take some time to decide what to do with them all. We can communicate through this site, and there is even a way to leave audio messages. Maybe I can get some advice from many of you?
