Weekend at the Second College Grant

We spent Memorial Day weekend with friends at the Second College Grant up in northern NH. We had lots of fun, and fortunately Pete was kind enough to document the event with his camera (our camera never made it out of the bag). We would like to extend a HUGE thank you to Pete & Joi, and Jon & Christi for a fun weekend and frequent "extra hands" with the kids. You guys rock.

Simon is two years old now! We had some chocolate cake to celebrate, and Simon added some spit to the frosting when blowing out his candle, thus ensuring he got the largest portion of cake. Smart kid.

Take a Hike

We took the kids for a hike yesterday afternoon, and taught them the fine art of roasting hotdogs on a stick over a roaring campfire. Ok, so it was a tiny fire, and the hotdogs were lukewarm. My campcraft skills aren't what they used to be :)

Most importantly, we had lots of fun. We did find out that, while Simon does well going uphill, those little legs don't do so well going DOWNHILL. After a half-dozen faceplants, we decided to carry him down . . . and he fell asleep (last picture).

The end of the day can get a little hectic around here. Gilly and Simon are often tired by then, but paradoxically, are wired and bouncing off the walls (literally). In the interest of maintaining sanity and keeping the kids out of the kitchen while dinner was being prepared, I played a movie to distract them. I decided to mix it up a little, so instead of Sesame Street or Angelina Ballerina, tonight's pre-dinner entertainment was a ski movie, "Anomaly" by Teton Gravity Research.

It's chock full of skiers and snowboarders jumping off cliffs, riding steep and deep slopes, and various on-snow mayhem all over the world. Not surprisingly, Gilly the wild-child LOVED it. She started jumping off the coffee table, practicing her cliff jumps . . .

The weather is warming up! Gilly and I went to the Dartmouth Skiway yesterday to do a little Spring skiing. She continues to make progress, but still prefers to "go fast." We're in trouble.

Simon still adores his baby sister. I wonder if this will change once she starts swiping his toys . . .

We're Back!

Once again, sorry for the lack of posts. It turns out three kids can keep you very busy. Whodathunkit.

Christmas was GREAT! Seemed kind of like a blur though. I think we were a little sleep-deprived (courtesy of the new baby), and sick (courtesy of our preschooler).

Greta is doing well, getting very chunky and smiling quite a bit lately. Simon just LOVES his new baby sister . . . sometimes more than Greta prefers. Gilly is having fun in school, and when she's home she spends much of her time dressing up in various outfits, including bathing suits, snow suits, and "princess dresses," and also combinations of all of the above.

I'm sure I have more news, but it's past my bedtime (9:30 . . . what a wild and crazy guy) and my brain isn't running at top speed right now. I did finally manage to get a research paper published. You can read it here (click) if you want something to help you fall asleep.
