What is it? Dianne: Yup. I'm a Search Engine Optimization Specialist. Usually called as SEO Specialist. Friend: Huh?! What's that? What is SEO? What does SEO specialist do? Is it a work? All of this are questions that's been asked to me every time I proudly say that i got a job and it is called Search Engine Optimization Specialist (SEO). As I see it, here in the Philippines, Search Engine Optimization are not yet well introduce. Many of us, still do not understand or do not know what SEO means. In my case, all of them where asking me what am I doing in my job. Family, friends and relatives, they don't have any single idea regarding SEO. And so, here are some insights that I've learned and understand about it. I define Search Engine Optimization (SEO) as a highly specialized process of building a successful website. Successful, why? Because if a commercial website cannot be found in the major search engines (i.e. Google, Yahoo, MSN, etc...), it is not successful, it just isn't doing it's “job”. Now, what job am I talking about? The Optimization process which directly addresses the need for a website to attract new and targeted visitors, who in turn will convert into buying customers. SEO is the process of figuring out which search phrases, or “key words”, potential customers might use to find what they are offering, and then doing whatever is necessary to move to the top of the search results so that these searchers visit the company's site. For instance, you as a customer, were looking for a product online, the first thing that you will do is to search for the product name, and typically buy it from a company who comes up near the top of the result list, which can cause them good exposure to other customers like you. SEO specialist now, is someone who's responsible in the optimization process. They are the one who do the marketing of a commercial website. So, why need an SEO specialist? Because, they are the one who can help commercial websites to generate sales, both online and offline. It can generate leads. It can convince search engine users to take the actions their desire, such as signing up for company's newsletter, downloading white papers from the company's site, registering for a seminar, and so on. And while it is doing all this, the website’s prominent position on the search engine results pages (SERPs) contributes to branding and name recognition. Targeted visitors to a website can provide publicity, revenue, and exposure like no other form of marketing can do.
