Yup that's right Edinburgh CF and Napier Conservative Association have done it again they have won yet another pub quiz.

This time in the Cumberland bar after a light evenings delivering of european pledges through letterboxes for the fantastic Mr McGill. It was a very close call with only one point in it but the team came through winners after a very tortuous round with confusing words which were supposed to be FABRICS! Not bad out of 15 teams :)

Sadly that is the last official Napier event of term however we will be updating you on the doings of Edinburgh CF and other tit-bits of information over the summer months. If anyone is around on the 6th they should check out the Meadows Festival it looks like it will be very entertaining.

If you are interested in youthful tory blogs keep an eye out for Tory Bear although sadly he is leaving Scotland for English pastures so the hunt is on for a new blogger extrordinaire.

Breaking News - Cameron to reopen candidates list!

David Cameron has announced that he will reopen the Conservative parliamentary candidates list.

In an interview on the Andrew Marr show, David said he wanted to “open up the talent that is available in Parliament".

And he urged people to apply for our candidates list even if they have never been involved in politics before:

“If you believe in public service, if you want to help us clean up politics, if you share our values come and be a Conservative candidate.”

Yes thats right...

The European Election are nearly upon us,
Perth Conference has had great reviews,
Conservative Future Scotland has a new team in place,
The Government is in turmoil,
The Speaker is resigning,
We may soon have another by-election,
Life is EXCITING...

So what can YOU do about it?

Well for starters...
If you can spare the time on Monday evening (the 25th) then your help would be really appreciated at Edinburgh North and Leith to deliver european pledges. Starting at 6pm in Northumberland street we will be finishing at an undisclosed location where beveridges will be consumed and a pub quiz will be partaken of.

Then for entrees
Struan's Stevenson's team are coming to Edinburgh South on Thursday 28May from 9-10am in Morningside. They will have an 'AdVan' and will be distributing leaflets and would like folk to join them. They will be meeting at M&S Simply Food on Morningside Road.

Cameron Rose and Edinburgh South would love to have some sprightly young bodies on Friday the 29th of May and Saturday the 6th of June for lampost duty!

The main dish of the day is currently the European Elections and all things associated.

The reason why we have so many bad politicians is because we don't scrutinise them enough when it comes to voting them in... that's why these European Elections are so important. With two Conservative MEPs in Scotland, we've managed to do the unthinkable and use the European Parliament as a force for positive change.

Struan Stevenson is one of the hardest working and most successful British MEPs and Belinda Don (hoping to replace John Purves, who retires next month) has been his right hand in the Edinburgh office; We must do everything we can to make sure they keep the flame of hope and change alive in Brussels.

To make sure this happens we're going to be stepping up the campaign on the last weekend of the election campaign (from Saturday 30th May) and it would be brilliant if you were able to lend a hand, whatever your speciality we've got something for you to use it on through out the city; street stalls, envelope stuffing, leaflet delivering, phone canvassing and even partying!

If you prefer the alternative menu of socialising only then...

Firstly there is that afore mentioned pub quiz on Monday the 25th May,

Secondly we will be having a picnic in the meadows on the 6th of June where electioning/ politicing and anything serious need not be discussed.

Thirdly if you would prefer to plan for the end of June then make a note of the 26th when we will be heading to join the Edinburgh South Pig Race Night!

And finally looking into July (the 14th to be precise) it is about time for a summery dough experience at Pizza Express!

That's a fairly full menu/calendar to be getting on with so have a great summer and I look forward to seeing many of you at our forthcoming events.

With a new batch of Tory students arriving in Edinburgh at all 4 of its universities, CFE is planning a big get together to welcome everyone into the fold. We have hired out the top floor of the Tun for an evening of merriment and socialising. For those of you who are unaware The Tun is the big complex round the corner from the Scottish Parliament. We'll be there from 7.30 and look forward to seeing you there. Feel free to pass the invite on and bring a friend along.

I thought it was about time for a small update on the workings of Napier University and Edinburgh Conservative Future so here goes.

Since the proposed committee meeting of Edinburgh CF there have been two official informal events of magnanimous proportions or rather at least 15 people turned up to socialise at both gatherings.

The first was a collection of souls to celbrate the end of the Blairism era. This occured within the wonderful Dragonfly establishment situated at West Port on the 27th of June. Various pieces of photographic evidence are viewable on facebook in Mr Fells Random 2007 album and may in time be transferrred to other deadly locations.

The second was a congregation in the Queens Arms on the 18th of July. This event was proposed to explore the intricacies of the Indian independance bill, the introduction of the secret ballot act and the unveiling of the Cenotaph. The revellers were encouraged to acquire stamped drinking cards and participate in the establishments trivia challenge. An important point to note #Conservative team table 5 were the winners of the challenge gaining free beveridges!#

Other events that CFEdinburgh and Napier members have attended were the Scotia Pride event and the Opening of the Scottish Parliament. At the Scotia Pride event CFEdinburgh and Napier members were in charge of the Conservative stall. We were the only political party there with a sponsered stall and the feedback about LGBTory was excellent.

It was nice to see so many people at the Parliament opening and we were joined by a member of Conservative Future Glasgow to help with the waving of the Union Jack's, Saltire's and a Falkland Flag. There was considerable shock amongst the gathering when a particular male declined the acceptance of a union flag.

I think that is about it for updating you of CFE and NUCUA activities for just now. Our next event in conjunction with CFE will be a picnic in the Meadows on the 12th of August.

Conference and Update

Well the Scottish Conservative Conference was a huge success and a great chance to meet other Conservatives from across Scotland.

So in summary - The Blue Review was won by the Media much to the chagrin of the conservative participants. Poor stewards were run ragged coping with the demands of the conference goers. Many outstanding speeches were made. Some other facts that must also be mentioned are that - Tory idol was a great success with very enthusiastic lions! - Conservative future members (not to mention some MSPs) were encouraged to learn various rules of gambling! - The Ice Factory was frequented on a blue escapade! and it all ended far too quickly.

Paint the town Blue 25th MarchYes its the night before! When various members and associates will be out partying in Edinburgh. The details will be forwarded nearer the time to interested parties. It will be a night of dancing, drinking and socialising.

Roman Union Celebration - Friday 30th MarchTo mark the 300th year of the scotland /england union and the 50th year of the treaty of rome we will be having a party in a flat in the Westend from 8.00pm. Just before the last bash of campaigning come join us with toga's/ flags/ scots/ angles/ irels but more importantly just be there.

Finally if any of you are interested most of the local conservative candidates will be out leafletting this Saturday (24th) and will appreciate all the volunteers they can get. If you are not sure who is in your area send me an email and i will forward the details of how you can help.
