Jacobite wins RNLI Yellow Wellie Award

Jacobite staff are delighted to have been awarded a "Yellow Wellie" award for fundraising on behalf of the RNLI. The award was titled "The Waste Not Wellie" award and was given for 'organising the most profitable fundraiser using resources to hand'.

Over the season Jacobite raised just over £3400. Representatives from Jacobite attended the RNLI's AGM and Awards lunch in Perth to pick up their award.

Most of the money was raised by hosting a pirate event on board the Jacobite Queen.

This year the company are fundraising for the Highland Hospice.

Jacobite Crew have a Monster Surprise on Loch Ness

Our 10am trip on the Jacobite Queen started much the same as any other. It was not a bad day weather wise, and the loch was fairly calm. But that was all about to change!

We were roughly an hour into to trip down Loch Ness when John, the skipper that day, suddenly noticed a strange shape showing up on the screen showing the sonar. The same image was repeated a number of times across the screen, probably repeats of the one image. As the image was being simultaneously shown in the saloon, he quickly buzzed the crew behind the bar saying "look at the sonar quick, there is something really wierd on there". The interest shown by Sandy and Lorna alerted some of the passengers to the fact that this was definately not an every day occurrence.

A small group gathered round the screen and began to discuss what on earth it could be. A few took pictures, and there was the odd comment of "OK, how did you do that??". But the skipper has worked with Jacobite for 14years, and both crew over 12 months each, and none of us has seen anything like this before.

So was this Nessie??

We've just created a new Facebook fan page for our cuddly purple monster Jacobite Jess. Our Jess already had a profile on this social networking site with almost 200 friends but by having a fan page we hope we will be able to connect with all Loch Ness friendly monster fans all over the world who might not have a Facebook profile.

Yesterday saw the second in the series of Jacobite's 'Just Add Water' events on board the Jacobite Reflection tour, one of VisitScotlands' Homecoming 2009 events.

This time it was the turn of the Glen Ord distillery. Each passenger was offered 3 drams of very different tasting whiskies to sample. Judging by the happy faces, they were a huge success!

Feast your senses as you take the leisurely 3 hour cruise along the legendary Loch Ness. Jennifer Fraser, our account manager here at Jacobite Cruises was featured this week in our local newspaper the Inverness Courier.

Jennifer volunteered to spend two weeks in a home for disabled children in Guatamala as part of a project that encourages our team members to undertake sponsored volunteer work.

Award winning fudge!

At the VisitScotland Expo in Glasgow last week the Jacobite tablet won the taste off awards!

It was a close run between the Jacobite tablet and the Orkney fudge (also a very worthwhile quality product tasting really good) but at the end of the day the Jacobite tablet just won it!

This was not an official "award" and was just a bit of fun but who knows it might be something for next year's Expo?

Nessie is dodging golf balls!

From the Daily Express earlier this week:

"WHEN the US scientists lowered their high tech, cameras 800ft into Loch Ness, they were prepared for anything – except golf balls.Instead of zooming in on Nessie, the cameras picked up tens of thousands of balls posing a threat to the species that live there.Loch Ness has been designated with “international conservation importance” because of its unique aquatic life.

It is believed holidaymakers and locals are using the loch as a golf range. Mike O’Brien. of
Louisiana-based Sea Trepid. sent remote cameras down in the hope of discovering Nessie for the US TV show, Monster Quest. He said: “There’s a lot of debris down there, including, literally, a coating of golf balls. It’s a shame really.”Green Party MSP Patrick Harvie said: “From the Moon to the bottom of Loch Ness, golf balls are humanity’s signature litter.“If there was anything of interest down there, it would not do it any good to be hit like this.“You can get biodegradable balls now and anyone looking to fire a few off into Loch Ness or elsewhere should get a stock in."

Yesterday, VisitScotland's Chairman Peter Lederer was in Inverness to hand a coveted 5 star visitor attraction award to the nearby Culloden Visitor centre.
