Today's featured artist is Kelly of Staccato. She spends her days crafting gorgeous stationary with earth-friendly recycled papers and even offers custom design services to create invitations to fit your bridal dream.

1. Where are you located?
Northern Virginia: half way between VA Wine Country (yum) and the DC Metro Area.

2. Tell us a little about yourself.
I have a BM in Music Education and teach elementary school band. For fun, I play flute with the Fairfax Wind Symphony, am learning to play golf, hate to run but do it anyway with my two fabulous hounds, and I make it through football season by knitting baby blankets and screaming "yeah!" every once in a while to please my hubby of almost 5 years.

3.What special things do you create for weddings?
Anything paper-related! Invitations, announcements, programs, place cards, menus, etc.

4.Who or what sparked your interest in making wedding-related items?
My mother has been in the bridal industry for over 30 years (you can find her at www.annleslie.etsy.com) so from an early age I was surrounded by tulle and satin and I worked through high school and college helping brides find the perfect gown at a large boutique in Connecticut. When my paper-crafting hobby became a business, it was just a natural transition to move to bridal. Brides are always looking for that item that will make their wedding stand out from the crowd and it is great fun to see the results that come from putting their ideas together with my artistry.

5. What is a little known fact, or something unique about your work that is interesting?
Everything I create is done with eco-consciousness. I adore paper, don't get me wrong, but using less of it is a good thing. 98% of my materials are either recycled or cotton/linen fibers and printed with solid ink, which is non-toxic and creates very little waste like ink or toner cartridges. Many of my designs utilize the "scraps" from former customers so very little goes to waste and I have a tree planted by the National Arbor Day Foundation in a de-forested area for each customers.

6. If you are married, what's the one thing you wish you had for your wedding that you didn't?
I hate to say it, but nothing…my wedding was pretty near perfect except that it didn't last long enough!

7. What is your favorite wedding song?
I wrote "Love Is" for my own wedding, so I'm a little partial to that one, but I'd have to say "The Prayer" made popular by Josh Groban and Charlotte Church is a particular favorite.

8. What is your favorite part of the wedding journey?
You learn so much about your future spouse while planning a wedding and I think that discovery process is part of the fun. Okay sure, you'll disagree sometimes, but with each decision that you make jointly, you are setting up a formula for how your marriage will work.
9. What advice can you share for all the brides getting married this year?
Have Fun!! This is like no other time in your life yet many brides get so caught up in the details that they don't see the big picture. Control what can be controlled and let go of the rest. Your day will be beautiful and memorable and you'll be happier. Oh – and hire live musicians! Makes all the difference in the world.

10. What is your perfect honeymoon spot?
My husband planned our perfect honeymoon at Caneel Bay in St. John, US Virgin Islands. It is peaceful, romantic, and nothing at all like the hustle-bustle of neighboring St. Thomas (though close enough that you can visit when you need a break from relaxing on a pristine beach or yoga class).

11. If you could pick anyone famous that would purchase your items for their wedding, who would they be?
That's tough…I'd say Heidi Klum. A beautiful woman with timeless style would be a great spokesperson for my designs.

12. If you could choose 1 item from your shop that you wish every bride could have, what would it be?
I'd want every bride to purchase her own custom listing. While I have my "stock" designs, I love to customize them so each bride has something unique.

1. Where are you located?

2. Tell us a little about yourself.
I’m a former Silicon Valley high-tech marketing professional, now a stay at home mom, making clay flowers out of CLAYCRAFT by DECO Soft Clay for weddings and events. I also teach interested crafters how to make their own clay flowers and figurines out of this fantastic clay from Japan. I’m a certified DECO Clay Craft Academy Instructor and have been doing this since 2001. I’ve been featured on the Martha Stewart Show - which her producers happened to find me via my Etsy storefront and weddings where I’ve made clay flowers for favors and my wedding stationery have also been featured on TheKnot.com. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE what I do and I enjoy making each bride’s wedding uniquely their own!

3. What special things do you create for weddings?
Clay flower bouquets, boutonnieres, corsages, favors, centerpieces, cake flowers, save the dates, wedding invitations, programs, menus, table cards, place cards, seating charts, guest books, favor tags, pretty much anything!

4. Who or what sparked your interest in making wedding-related items?
I always loved the wedding industry. I guess getting married at 33 I had a lot of time to look at bridal magazines wondering if I would ever get married. Weddings are always a happy occasion and even in a down economy, weddings still take place. I love helping brides create a theme and a motif to really bring their weddings together and everyone just raves about the items I produce.

5. What is a little known fact, or something unique about your work that is interesting?
I obsess over getting the flower just right for my brides. If it’s just okay (which my brides probably wouldn’t even know the difference) I start over and perfect it.

6. If you are married, what’s the one thing you wish you had for your wedding that you didn’t?
Although we had a fabulous dessert buffet at the Halekulani Hotel in Waikiki -which I didn’t get to try but heard it was fabulous and yummy, I wish I had done the candy bar thing! I love the ideas that brides come up with these days.

7. What is your favorite wedding song?
Push - our wedding song by Sarah Maclachlan. It’s different and not the norm, but the words touched my husband and I.

8. What is your favorite part of the wedding journey?
Designing something new and trying to think outside the box.

9. What advice can you share for all the brides getting married this year?
Although the invitation sets the tone for your wedding, I recommend doing the wedding website link and posting your most up-to-date information there instead of doing the 3 inserts (things to do, directions, etc). Use that extra money you save there on the wedding day details that make your wedding ceremony and reception much more special (programs, candy bars, table cards, favors, etc). I would also say, try giving clay flowers a shot. I think more and more brides are realizing that clay flowers are a great alternative and they have something to show for it well after the wedding. I LOVE fresh flowers, but with the amount of money you spend, it’s a great gift for guests to take home!
10. What is your perfect honeymoon spot?
Hawaii - where we used to live…

11. If you could pick anyone famous that would purchase your items for their wedding, who would they be?
That’s a hard one… any celebrity who has great sense of style!

12. If you could choose 1 item from your shop that you wish every bride could have, what would it be?
Well, since my Etsy shop is more about just vase arrangements, I would say, I hope they see that my flowers are really lifelike and could pass for real flowers and it will entice them to order my clay flower bouquets which I don’t currently sell on my site because it’s all custom work. They do however the pieces on my site make great cake toppers!

I am 27 years old and a stay at home mom to my wonderful 2 year old son! I have a great husband and we are a young and happy family J I have a degree in Communications and a Minor in Dance. I made a 3 tier fresh flower cake for my grandmother’s 75^th surprise birthday party and my dad looked at me and said, “You should sell those.” After much research I realized there isn’t anybody out there who specializes in silk floral wedding cakes so………here I am!

5. What is a little known fact, or something unique about your work that is interesting?
All of my cakes are made from floral foam and come to life when I start applying the flowers.

My passion is jewelry. I love to envision, design, and create beautiful pieces. I have always worked full-time within Corporate America but since going part-time have been able to pursue some of the interests that I could only imagine I would ever be able to do on my own time, such as jewelry creation.

2. Tell us a little about yourself.
I’m a full-time graphic designer, with a BFA from Iowa State University. My husband and I are both graphic designers and moved to TX for jobs a year ago with our two baby dachshunds, Izzy and Bean. I love my job, and my newly found obsession with Etsy!

3. What special things do you create for weddings?
I create beautiful, but affordable, custom wedding invitations and stationary.

4. Who or what sparked your interest in making wedding-related items?
When I got married I wanted to design my own invites. But, being a working college student, I wasn’t sure I had the time. So I searched and searched for an invitation to use and never found anything I liked for under $7 a piece…which was not in my budget. I ended up designing my own, and decided a wanted to start a business that gave people a low-stress place to buy professionally designed and printed invitations within their budget.

5. What is a little known fact, or something unique about your work that is interesting?
I work really fast, and if needed can get invites designed, printed, and shipped in about 2 weeks. And for some of my designs I can do really high quality digital prints, instead of the offset I usually use, which is a great way to save a lot of money!

6. If you are married, what’s the one thing you wish you had for your wedding that you didn’t? More knowledge about flowers.

7. What is your favorite wedding song?
Crazy Love, Van Morrison. It was our first dance. J

8. What advice can you share for all the brides getting married this year?
Don’t get stressed. It goes by so fast! So enjoy all of it.

9. What is your perfect honeymoon spot?
Las Vegas! Great food, good entertainment, and super affordable…especially for June weddings.

10. If you could pick anyone famous that would purchase your items for their wedding, who would they be?
Ewan McGregor

11. If you could choose 1 item from your shop that you wish every bride could have, what would it be?
A fully “branded” wedding, in which every piece (invites, programs, menus, table numbers) match the other. It’s a really easy way to bring the whole event together.

Today I am featuring a creative and talented member of the Etsy Wedding Team. Medeline Bea Soap Co. has created a line of bath and body products that are perfect for any bride to be. Her wedding speacialty is personalized bridal shower and wedding soap favors. She also created a lavish "bea blissful" welcome basket, perfect for bridesmaids, out of town guests, or any bride that would love some extra pampering!

1. Where are you from?
I am from the beautiful mountains of Northeast PA. I live in the same town I grew up in.

2. What special things do you create for weddings?
I make handmade soap favors whose labels and wrappings can be customized and personalized specifically for the bride and groom. I also can put together gift baskets for bridesmaids, out-of-town guests, flower girls, etc.

3. Tell us a little about yourself.
I'm a stay-at-home-mom of two beautiful little girls. I married my high school sweetheart and he's the best husband and dad I could ever imagine. We live a pretty simple life full of laughs, love, and family.

4. What or Who got you started doing what you do?
I started exploring how to make soap out of a desire to make frugal Christmas presents. The craft was way more involved than I thought but the more I learned about it, the more I really wanted to do it! So I bought a couple books and did a ton of online research and taught myself the craft of soapmaking. Once I started, there was so much I wanted to do; new soaps, scrubs, lip balms. It was so addicting. And even now there's way more that I want to do then I have time to do.

5. What is a little known fact, or something unique about your work that is interesting?
Soapmaking is a big chemical reaction. Measurements of oils, water, and lye have to be very precise (to a tenth of an ounce) or the whole batch could flop.

6. If you could pick anyone famous that would purchase your items for their wedding, who would they be?
I would have to say Martha Stewart because you know that everything she would have at her wedding would be the most charming, best things you could have.

7. If you are married, what's one thing you wish you had for your wedding that you didn't?
My soap for favors, of course! Oh yeah, and a sober DJ!

8. What's your favorite wedding song?
I'm going to have to say my own: "All I Need To Know" by Kenny Chesney. It simply says that "In a world where most things come and go, I'll always have you to hold, And that's all I need to know." It most definately captures the essence of marriage. If you're marrying for any other reason then you'll probably be dissapointed.

9. Can you give any advice to all the brides to be getting married this year?
Make the day truly about you and your groom-to-be. So many weddings are carbon copies of each other. I love weddings that are unique and speak volumes about the couple. You and your guests are more likely to enjoy the day when it feels like YOUR wedding and not like the same wedding they went to last month. Oh yeah, and please keep your perspective. It is ONE DAY!!!! It will be over as quickly as yesterday. But your marriage is what all the work is for!

I wouldn't know!

11. If you could choose 1 item from your shop that you wish every bride could have, what would it be?
One of my Body Scrubs. Her skin would be glowing on her special day (just like her smile!)

"This isn't really mushy, funny, or cute, but my wedding is actually why
I started French Beading in the first place.  The "package" we got for
our little beach wedding only came with flowers for my husband and
myself.  Nothing for the bridal party.  In an attempt to continue the
DIY theme for most of our wedding, a friend of mine suggested beaded
flowers.  I had never heard of them, but after a several trials and
completely cursing and putting aside this lovely craft because my first
attempts were atrocious, I 'saw the light', so to speak, and fell in
love with this age-old craft."

Throughout this blog, you will have the opportunity to meet many members of the Etsy Wedding Team who will also share with you some of the photos and details of their own weddings, weddings we have attended, or our" Always a bridesmaid stories" I figured to kick off the series, I'd share with you a few details of my own wedding.

I happen to be a jewelry designer, and a teacher. These two things make me a bit of a micro-manager. So when it came to the details about the role of flowers in my wedding I was really rather anxious.

For starters, I knew I did not want to spend a fortune on floral centerpieces for my tables. I toyed around with the idea of ordering fresh flowers in bulk, but knew there was no way they would ever successfully make it to the tables. The solution came from a lot of brainstorming on my part and the help of my rather artistically created mother. I wanted the centerpieces to be natural, but not particularly fragile or pricey. What we ended up doing was get affordable glass vases. I then used natural bamboo poles, grasses, and money changers (unfortunately I couldn't find enough **real** moneychangers, but they still looked and felt real). We then recycled smaller glass bottles as well and put the bamboo inside the bottles to center them inside the vases and filled the entire vase with glass pebbles to weight it. The bottles were then wrapped inside vellum, and a black ribbon added for flair. I think the total cost per centerpiece came to about less than $10.00 a centerpiece.

Since my wedding, I've noticed different versions of this. I had a friend who took beautiful branches and put them in a vase. She made personalized cards to commemorate occasions and events that she had in common with her wedding guests and typed all the happy memories on artsy cards. She hung the cards from the branches. They were a great way to get to know the other guests, and let each guest know how much the bride and groom cared about their special memories of their times spent with the guests.

I've had also dreamed for ages of doing the old-fashioned toss of the bouquet coming out of church. It had always seemed so elegant and glamorous to me. The whole bouquet toss and accompanying garter dance at the reception just didn't really fit with my personality or my husbands. The solution was that I had a throw away bouquet of simple daisies, tied loose. I walked out, untied the ribbon and tossed the flowers to----the children! It was a delight to watch the flowers scatter through the air and watch the children gleefully catch them all.

Having been married on the Fourth of July weekend however, I think one of my favorite moments was when we all lit sparklers under the tent outside. Cute little tin buckets filled with sand and star cut outs were perfect places to put out the hot sparklers. The grown ups were more hilarious than the children even running around twirling their arms in the air (note: my change of dress for late night dancing too!)

The Wedding "To Do" List: Save the Date!

The instant many brides are first engaged their minds are suddenly flooded with all sorts of the ideas and possibilities there are for their wedding. (Some are even dreams from their girlhood!) Then minutes after that may come the moment of panic---where to begin?

The Etsy Wedding Team is full of fabulous ideas to help you plan your perfect wedding and we will be providing you with an on-going blog feature called "Tips from the Team". The team itself has a wealth of personal experience in weddings, from planning their own, helping with others, or working in the wedding business. Yes, it's true. The Etsy Wedding team, has "officially" been declared a bonafide team by Etsy. What does that mean? It means that this team has the official go ahead to bring brides and grooms the best wedding products, and to market collectively as a team. (That means one stop, no fuss shopping!) Susan Havens-Morris, a.k.a Middleburg is the originator behind the idea of the Etsy Wedding Team. Shes makes original papier mache and fabric sculptures that I find absolutely darling!

The Classic Wedding Cake Topper feature above is just one of the many adorable items that can be found in her shop.

For those of you concerned about the environment, Middleburg Folk Art Studio is a gem, as all the items are created from 100% recycled ground newspaper. So with every item, what would have been trash is being recycled into something utterly beautiful!
