He was a regular feature on Doordarshan in 80s and I remember that I used to think of him as poor man's Ghulam Ali. However, even though one could see the inspiration in the composition style, his voice was fresh (and softer) and his singing style different. Apart from this one, he sang another short-metered ghazal for av9ynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9026435.post-1099689342786867472004-10-12T16:12:00.001-04:002008-07-13T17:07:54.079-04:00मुझे बेख़ुदी ये तूने भली चाशनी चखाईMuzaffar Ali may be known better for Umrao Jaan, his composition skills are nothing short of extraordinary if one goes by this album (and another named Husn-e-Jaana). This Abida Parveen album of Sufiyana Gazals is a treat to listen. Abida, known for her sufiyaanaa qalaams, has rendered some choicest Gazals by old masters very powerfully. The recording and arrangements are also of high quality.

I like this version a lot more. Stunning singing by her and an absolute killer composition by Muzaffar Ali.

Somehow, Ghulam Ali and Asha do not sound good together to me. I rather prefer the solo ones by Asha from this album more. Otherwise this is a nice one.

Though personally I would not rank it even close to DPH or Kashish, it still has a few fresh and enjoyable moments.
The one below provides some of those. It has a nice composition and is well-sung. Also, there's something special about this ghazal. What is it? Take a look and see at the end of this post v9ynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9026435.post-1099687604607204612004-08-10T15:45:00.000-04:002004-11-05T16:31:24.406-05:00अच्छा ये मोहब्बत का असर देख रहा हूँAnother one from Hussain bandhu.

Saying anything about this album now would be a case of 'too little, too late'. So just enjoy.

However, I don't know if a Noor Jehan version of it really exists. The ghazal has been included in a compilation of Asha's non-film songs/ghazals named 'Diva' and is also available on musicindiaonline.com.
Another exquisite Nazar Hussain composition.
Enjoy!

Hussain brothers, early in their careers, used to perform on Jaipur Doordarshan and IIRC, this ghazal was aired pretty often during between programmes and at other times. Their inimitable style of singing and amazing synchronization was awe-inspiring. This is still one of their most popular ghazal, even after v9ynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9026435.post-1099686665093918912004-06-07T15:26:00.000-04:002004-11-05T16:34:01.173-05:00उस की हसरत है जिसे दिल से मिटा भी न सकूँ Let me start with an absolute favorite which has *some* she'rs by Amir Minai. The matalaa of this ghazal is the first thing that comes to my mind when I hear the name of Amir Minai.
It is an interesting concept. A ghazal singer combines two different ghazals of two shaayars with same "zameen" into a single one. The ghazals performed as such are called 'ham-zameen' ghazals.
