These games are almost always a lot of fun, but the point is to hone our skills and add tools to our toolboxes. In this game, only one person can make noise or move at a time, which teaches listening skills and makes us think about how we make choices: are we dominant, do we acquiesce, etc? The goal is to stop thinking about what we're personally doing and focus on completing the game as a group; to give ourselves over to the collaborative, creative process that is theatre.</p><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/9025928161875570850-2525622321503854283?l=marylandensemble.blogspot.com'/></div>METhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17317480760039591797noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9025928161875570850.post-35155093054186329842009-01-09T10:54:00.019-05:002009-01-09T13:11:45.536-05:00Beach Retreat! We're at our annual beach retreat! Each year we spend a week in Surfside Beach, SC working on MET stuff. We hold workshops, read plays, talk about the future of MET, go on fun excursions, eat, play games and generally bond. This year we're coming off a couple of really super busy months with our four holiday shows, so we've spent a lot of time just relaxing and recharging.<br /><br />I had intended to do a blog post each day, but I've been too busy doing nothing(!), so here's a brief recap of our week:<br /><br /><div align="center"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_vZVIYMsYnUk/SWeO8xIM8uI/AAAAAAAABIU/S_XuTh9vblQ/s1600-h/1.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5289353462000972514" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_vZVIYMsYnUk/SWeO8xIM8uI/AAAAAAAABIU/S_XuTh9vblQ/s320/1.jpg" border="0" /></a> At the beach we play a lot of games!</div><div align="center"><br /></div><div align="center"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_vZVIYMsYnUk/SWeO6jYRUsI/AAAAAAAABIM/j1H_Q_5eAbk/s1600-h/2.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5289353423950533314" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_vZVIYMsYnUk/SWeO6jYRUsI/AAAAAAAABIM/j1H_Q_5eAbk/s320/2.jpg" border="0" /></a> We also formed our own Wii band: Crapdip. We've been using the same set, designed by Tad <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">Janes</span>, for the last several years, and it's basically a giant erector set, fairly easy and quick to put together. And this year we captured the process on film:<br /><br /><span style="color:#ffffcc;">..</span><br /><p><object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/QMPkDDlzSmI&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/QMPkDDlzSmI&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object></p><p><span style="color:#ffffcc;">.</span></p><p>This is what the set looks like when it's all put together, with lights and special effects:</p><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5281193702910694786" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 214px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_vZVIYMsYnUk/SUqRsRwFlYI/AAAAAAAABGU/jeLcWybUhFY/s320/ChristmasCarol3.JPG" border="0" /><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/9025928161875570850-6929243164778688618?l=marylandensemble.blogspot.com'/></div>METhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17317480760039591797noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9025928161875570850.post-83113319783355635312008-12-17T09:18:00.003-05:002008-12-17T09:49:21.746-05:00A Merry Bah Humbug ChristmasMET has partnered with <a href="http://www.cakesforcause.org/">Cakes for a Cause</a> to present, for the first time <em>ever</em>, Scrooge Gear! We've been blogging for almost a year! This blog was started as a way to communicate more with our patrons and give people a sense of what MET is all about, besides producing plays. But it's become more than that. It's become a great way of documenting and recording our process, a living archive. <br /><br />If you have comments about the blog, please email them to me at: <a href="mailto:sstraw@marylandensemble.org">sstraw@marylandensemble.org</a><br /><br />Thanks for reading!<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/9025928161875570850-7213596935132754497?l=marylandensemble.blogspot.com'/></div>METhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17317480760039591797noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9025928161875570850.post-74624613423123434632008-12-08T10:38:00.001-05:002008-12-08T10:38:00.877-05:00The First EggnogThe Comedy Pigs' original holiday sketch show, <em>4 Eggnogs and an Apology</em>, opens on Friday, and to celebrate I'm going to share four eggnog recipes with you, one for each day until the opening. So, here is The First Eggnog:<br /><br /><strong>Basic Eggnog</strong><br />Ingredients:<br />4 egg yolks<br />1/3 cup sugar, plus one tablespoon<br />1 pint whole milk<br />i cup heavy cream<br />3 ounces bourbon<br />1 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg<br />4 egg whites<br /><br />Directions:<br />In the bowl of a stand mixer, beat the egg yolks until they lighten in color. Gradually add the 1/3 cup sugar and continue to beat until it is completely dissolved. Add the milk, cream, bourbon and nutmeg and stir to combine.<br /><span style="color:#ffffcc;">.</span><br /><span style="color:#ffffcc;"><span style="color:#000000;">Place the egg whites in the bowl of a stand mixer and beat to soft peaks. With the mixer still running gradually add the 1 tablespoon of sugar and beat until stiff peaks form.</span> </span><br /><span style="color:#ffffcc;">.</span><br />Whisk the egg whites into the mixture. Chill and serve.<br /><span style="color:#ffffcc;">.<br /></span>Cook's Note: For cooked eggnog, follow procedure below:<br />In the bowl of a stand mixer, beat the egg yolks until they lighten in color. Gradually add the 1/3 cup sugar and continue to beat until it is completely dissolved. Set aside.<br /><span style="color:#ffffcc;">.<br /></span>In a medium saucepan, over high heat, combine the milk, heavy cream and nutmeg and bring just to a boil, stirring occasionally. Remove from the heat and gradually temper the hot mixture into the egg and sugar mixture. Then return everything to the pot and cook until the mixture reaches 160 degrees F. Remove from the heat, stir in the bourbon, pour into a medium mixing bowl, and set in the refrigerator to chill.<br /><span style="color:#ffffcc;">.<br /></span>In a medium mixing bowl, beat the egg whites to soft peaks. With the mixer running gradually add the 1 tablespoon of sugar and beat until stiff peaks form. Whisk the egg whites into the chilled mixture.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/9025928161875570850-7462461342312343463?l=marylandensemble.blogspot.com'/></div>METhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17317480760039591797noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9025928161875570850.post-9100952980763794662008-12-06T11:14:00.000-05:002008-12-06T11:14:00.842-05:00More Snow Queen Video ShootReiner talks to Mark and Gené about the play and the sequence they are going to shoot:<br /><br /><object height="344" width="425"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/A9pX5GRTYJs&hl=en&fs=1"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/A9pX5GRTYJs&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/9025928161875570850-910095298076379466?l=marylandensemble.blogspot.com'/></div>METhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17317480760039591797noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9025928161875570850.post-90601417216843735242008-12-05T12:49:00.000-05:002008-12-05T12:49:00.171-05:00Snow Queen Video ShootOur production of The Snow Queen features a multimedia component and director Reiner Prochaska has been busy filming video sequences for the show. These mini movies will play on screens upstage of the action. Yesterday evening, Reiner filmed some segments in our Ensemble School classroom:<br /><br /><br /><br /><div align="center"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_vZVIYMsYnUk/STlTo3cL9vI/AAAAAAAABEw/MKpK0DBrEA4/s1600-h/1.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5276340399983294194" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_vZVIYMsYnUk/STlTo3cL9vI/AAAAAAAABEw/MKpK0DBrEA4/s320/1.JPG" border="0" /></a> Julie Herber and Reiner apply makeup to Ken Poisson, who will be playing the part of "Evil Sprite." </div><br /><div align="center"><br /><br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_vZVIYMsYnUk/STlTa6chaWI/AAAAAAAABEo/HxMGJaHX94s/s1600-h/2.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5276340160271837538" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_vZVIYMsYnUk/STlTa6chaWI/AAAAAAAABEo/HxMGJaHX94s/s320/2.JPG" border="0" /></a> Julie makes Ken look evil, Reiner applies spirit gum and elf ears.
