I can only spend 3-4 hours on it so large parts of them are ripped from other places. I know it's not 100% legit, but at the same time it's just an illustration of how the funcionality can look. If it sell we have to go back to the drawing board and do it well anyway. <p><a href='http://posterous.com/getfile/files.posterous.com/leo/c45aEvUyXMYe87c9fflPxGJUVtUCzB5qHI2ZOL8LykLDO7gOIaBRTN82nbXK/muvibox-mockup.jpg.scaled.1000.jpg'><img src="http://posterous.com/getfile/files.posterous.com/leo/oLJuaXqsM7l6Mgu7opZEf0vovDmjuIRqpbcKprOqUTDo2Pj5VckqeV5g3m6r/muvibox-mockup.jpg.scaled.500.jpg" width="500" height="488"/></a> <a href='http://posterous.com/getfile/files.posterous.com/leo/DpPrJcWu394MLhcRNQvCGjmKLgFUfb0MvkNzwhz5MbmdFvsspbhBgvScr9zq/guisjoven.jpg.scaled.1000.jpg'><img src="http://posterous.com/getfile/files.posterous.com/leo/REWFUDeEhNrAPuvjxlhQ8YC3y4jCXAkcoGv6uEiDjMU0KPQR9NSFvZ3IhgIQ/guisjoven.jpg.scaled.500.jpg" width="500" height="461"/></a> <a href='http://leo.utskot.org/mockups-galore'>See the full gallery on posterous</a></p><p style="font-size: 10px;"> <a href="http://posterous.com">Posted via email</a> from <a href="http://leo.utskot.org/mockups-galore">Leo Utskot</a> </p> <div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/8997057364830355438-7976060997710938227?l=utskot.blogspot.com'/></div>Leo Utskothttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05752058297997609695noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8997057364830355438.post-87247618670302004812009-05-12T14:05:00.001+02:002009-05-12T14:05:16.329+02:00Proyecciones de PIB 2009<img src="http://posterous.com/getfile/files.posterous.com/leo/El41rlojEtdtnMMetJCmM7v9k0vCuQQs6EEvaEm3nE7bE5ksvq9IUtTVwloG/shot-1.png" width="470" height="230"/> <p><span style="font-size: small;"><font face="arial, helvetica, sans-serif">Leo El Universal y he notado que con frequencía sacan nuevos proyecciones del PIB. This can create disasters so I though I might list a few tips that will help developers avoid the most common mistakes.<br /> <div><br /></div><div><font size="5"><span style="font-size:18px"><b><br /></b></span></font></div><div><b><span style="font-size:large">1. Scale images on both axis</span></b></div> <div>Sometimes you have a logo that needs to be a little smaller to fit. You can use Photoshop, Gimp or one of the new online image editors to do that, but avoid scaling along only one axis. The most typical way to commit this error is to load the image into Photoshop/Gimp, perform a "transform" and pull one of the corners to make the image fit without considering the ratio between height and width. Especially with logos this can result in a disaster where circles and squares become ovals and rectangles. Either use "Image Size" and mark the checkbox "Constrain aspect" or pull the corners while holding down the Shift key.</div> <div><br /></div><div><font size="5"><span style="font-size:18px"><b><br /></b></span></font></div><div><b><span style="font-size:large">2. When in doubt, use the same font as the most similar piece of text.</span></b></div> <div>If all the rest of the text on the page uses Arial, don't go for Times Roman when you insert a new style. Copy-paste is faster and a much safer bet.</div> <div><br /></div><div>How do you see if it's Arial or Times Roman?</div><div>If you have don't know the font, but have a mockup image you need to identify the type of font visually. It sounds difficult, but the truth is that 99% of people can not see the difference between Arial and Helvetica (two similar fonts), so you don't have to make a perfect match. The most important thing is to identify the type of font and the most basic classification is Serif or Sans-Serif. Look at the "feet" of the letters, for example the bottom of a T. If it's square at the bottom it's a Sans-serif, if it has little extra supports it's a Serif font. If it's rounded and cartooned you're looking at Comic Sans which is crap so ask the boss to fire the designer right away and use Helvetica.</div> <div><br /></div><div>After identifying the font as Serif or Sans-serif pick one of the following which are available on most machines:</div><div><br /></div><div><b>Serif</b></div><div>Georgia</div><div>Garamond</div><div>Times Roman</div> <div><br /></div><div><b>Sans-serif</b></div><div>Verdana</div><div>Helvetica</div><div>Arial</div><div><br /></div><div>Your css code should look something like this in order to be fail-safe:</div><div><br /></div></div><blockquote style="margin:0 0 0 40px;border:none;padding:0px"> <span style="font-family:-webkit-monospace;white-space:pre-wrap"><span style="font-size:small">font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;</span></span></blockquote> <div> <div><br /></div><div><font size="5"><span style="font-size:18px"><b><br /></b></span></font></div><div><b><span style="font-size:large">3. Alignment is important.</span></b></div> <div>Humans have a natural attraction to order and we can very quickly identify when one object is not aligned with several others that are aligned. Much can be said for the benefit of adding a little chaos to a design, but that's sometime to be left for the pros. When in doubt, keep things aligned with each other. Look for the invisible horizontal or vertical lines which run though a design and align everything to them.</div> <div><br /></div><div>Also, pay attention to detail. Being off by 10 pixels is much worse than being off by 100 pixels. If you are off by only a little it looks like you've tried and failed, if it's way off you can try to claim being a visionary.</div> <div><br /></div><div>Be very careful with centering, most text should be aligned to the left for western languages. This is especially true in tables, avoid centering labels at the top because it ruins the ability to scan a list. If you are dealing with numbers, align to the right and make sure you have the same number of decimals so that the user can skim the numbers and get an idea of their relative size.</div> <div><br /></div><div><font size="5"><span style="font-size:18px"><b><br /></b></span></font></div><div><span style="font-size:large"><b>4. Keep margins, don't crowd the elements.</b></span></div> <div>Many developers I know try to squeeze as many characters as possible into their windows in order to be able to see as much code as possible without scrolling and tend to do the same on webpages. In the world of design margins and negative space serves as an important tool to group elements that belong together and even create a feeling of openness or cleanliness.</div> <div><br /></div><div>Between columns you normally need at least a 10 or 20 pixel margin. Around a horizontal logo a good rule of thumb is to leave a space around the logo equal to the average height of the logo. I can't give a specific guideline for all cases, but don't be afraid of white space.</div> <div><br /></div><div><font size="5"><span style="font-size:18px"><b><br /></b></span></font></div><div><b><span style="font-size:large">5. Hex code represent the amount of red (R), green (G) and blue (B) and in few cases will a designer choose to use the maximum amount of any of them (FF). If you need to pick a blue, go with #000099 or maybe #333399 in order to tone down the color (technically reduce saturation). Also don't use the predefined the colors like "green" and "blue" since these are very intense. As a doctor, I realise that the media does not report the truth. Authorities distributed vaccines among all the medical personnel with no results, because two of my partners who worked in this hospital (interns) were killed by this new virus in less than six days even though they were vaccinated as all of us were. The official number of deaths is 20, nevertheless, the true number of victims are more than 200. In the capital of my state, Oaxaca, there is a hospital closed because of a death related to the porcine influenza. In the papers they recognise only two people dead for that cause. Many friends working in hospitals or related fields say that the situation is really bad, they are talking about 19 people dead in Oaxaca, including a doctor and a nurse. They say they got shots but they were told not to talk about the real situation. Our authorities say nothing. Life goes on as usual here. </p> <p>Young people are going to schools and universities. Buses and planes go and come from Mexico City as frequently as before. Even with two people dead locally, last night the local baseball stadium was full, mainly with young people. What's really happening? I know vaccines are good for nothing, and if you take care, maybe you won't die, so, why not acknowledge the real situation? I know that the economic situation is not the best, and it will worsen with panic. But panic comes from a lack of information. Many people travel for pleasure or without any real need. Stopping those unjustified trips can help a lot to ease the situation. It's over... <br /><span style="font-family: Georgia; line-height: 18px; ">"It's over — we're officially, royally fucked. No empire can survive being rendered a permanent laughingstock, which is what happened as of a few weeks ago, when the buffoons who have been running things in this country finally went one step too far. It happened when Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner was forced to admit that he was once again going to have to stuff billions of taxpayer dollars into a dying insurance giant called AIG, itself a profound symbol of our national decline — a corporation that got rich insuring the concrete and steel of American industry in the country's heyday, only to destroy itself chasing phantom fortunes at the Wall Street card tables, like a dissolute nobleman gambling away the family estate in the waning days of the British Empire.<p style="margin-top: 20px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 20px; margin-left: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-style: initial; border-color: initial; outline-width: 0px; outline-style: initial; outline-color: initial; font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-size: 13px; font-family: inherit; vertical-align: baseline; "> The latest bailout came as AIG admitted to having just posted the largest quarterly loss in American corporate history — some $61.7 billion. In the final three months of last year, the company lost more than $27 million every hour. That's $465,000 a minute, a yearly income for a median American household every six seconds, roughly $7,750 a second. And all this happened at the end of eight straight years that America devoted to frantically chasing the shadow of a terrorist threat to no avail, eight years spent stopping every citizen at every airport to search every purse, bag, crotch and briefcase for juice boxes and explosive tubes of toothpaste. Yet in the end, our government had no mechanism for searching the balance sheets of companies that held life-or-death power over our society and was unable to spot holes in the national economy the size of Libya (whose entire GDP last year was smaller than AIG's 2008 losses).</p> <p style="margin-top: 20px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 20px; margin-left: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-style: initial; border-color: initial; outline-width: 0px; outline-style: initial; outline-color: initial; font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-size: 13px; font-family: inherit; vertical-align: baseline; "> So it's time to admit it: We're fools, protagonists in a kind of gruesome comedy about the marriage of greed and stupidity. And the worst part about it is that we're still in denial — we still think this is some kind of unfortunate accident, not something that was created by the group of psychopaths on Wall Street whom we allowed to gang-rape the American Dream."</p> <p style="margin-top: 20px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 20px; margin-left: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-style: initial; border-color: initial; outline-width: 0px; outline-style: initial; outline-color: initial; font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-size: 13px; font-family: inherit; vertical-align: baseline; "> <a href="http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/story/26793903/the_big_takeover/print" style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-style: initial; border-color: initial; outline-width: 0px; outline-style: initial; outline-color: initial; font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-size: 13px; font-family: inherit; vertical-align: baseline; color: rgb(22, 56, 124); text-decoration: underline; ">The Big Takeover: How Wall Street insiders are using the bailout to stage a revolution.</a></p> <p style="margin-top: 20px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 20px; margin-left: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-style: initial; border-color: initial; outline-width: 0px; outline-style: initial; outline-color: initial; font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-size: 13px; font-family: inherit; vertical-align: baseline; "> <i style="font-style: italic; ">Thanks, Mike Backes!</i></p><p></p></span><p style="font-size: 10px;"> <a href="http://posterous.com">Posted via email</a> from <a href="http://leo.utskot.org/its-over-7">Leo Utskot</a> </p> <div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/8997057364830355438-4771209019195738337?l=utskot.blogspot.com'/></div>Leo Utskothttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05752058297997609695noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8997057364830355438.post-31555655613696622302009-03-12T21:45:00.001+01:002009-03-12T21:45:30.682+01:00
