Not to be confused with "Never Gonna Give You Up" by Rick Astley. Being Raphaelrolled would be rather pleasant, really.

This song's stuck in my head, and it's not going anywhere for a while.

The whole album's a throwback to a great, classic R&B sound.

Raphael Saadiq introduces Stevie Wonder in a VERY similar manner to how Stevie introduced Dizzy Gillespie on his song, "Do I Do". It is my understanding that Raphael said that bit in the studio as a bit of a joke before realizing that it might not be a bad idea to ask Stevie to appear on the song.

Stevie obliged. :)

I've collected multiple Hall and Oates compilations that focus on their early (Pre-Atlantic Records) recordings. I was able to justify the purchases because it always seemed like each new collection would include at least one song that I hadn't heard.

"The Philadelphia Years" looks like it might be THE one to buy if the duo's early output is of interest to you. There are song titles here that I STILL haven't heard on any of the compilations I own, and it appears that these were even transferred directly from the master recordings.

So, I'm probably going to buy these songs AGAIN! Then I just need to track down a vinyl copy of Gulliver's self-titled album from 1969.

Levi has some tour dates with Kate Havnevik coming up as I type this. If you have the opportunity to see him play? Do yourself the favor of attending one of his shows.

He puts on a great live set. He's a marvelous songwriter. He's a genuine soul. He puts a tremendous amount of time, effort and energy to do what he does with no support from a record label.

He's passionate about music, and has a lot to say about the music industry as it sits. I find both his "The Underground Has Become the Horizon" and "What This Looks Like" videos to be thought provoking, honest and inspiring.

Following him on twitter is also highly recommended if you like tweets that make you laugh, think or both.

In short: If you tend to enjoy musicians that make music for the love of music? Consider supporting this artist. He's very, very good.

Been meaning to pick this for the last couple of days, but life got in the way. I've been listening to it non-stop recently.

"Impossible Mission: TV series Pt. 1" is an album of previously unreleased material. It plays like a mixtape of outtakes and rarities.

The beat was produced by J. Dilla, a very talented producer that died in 2006 from a heart attack after years of battling a rare blood disease called Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura.

This features the same beat that was used for "Do You" by Slum Village. "Relax" was not initially released for that reason: Slum Village beat De La to the punch, so to speak.

Instant favorite! The vocals sound European, but a Canadian duo is responsible for this musical sunshine.

I know very little about this project, as I was just introduced to it yesterday through one of my twitter friends named BadServo.
As far as I can tell: Prozzäk consists of two fictional cartoon characters named Simon and Milo. The backstory is that the two were bitter enemies. During one of their battles, a 'man in the sky' told them they were to become best friends, and they were given the mission of finding true love through music.

Jay Levine and James McCollum are the two musicians behind the scenes. Sounds like a Gorillaz style project to me, and it almost seems like that project might have even been one of many musical influences.

This particular song sounds like something that Jeff Lynne of ELO could have written. So great!

Surprised? Yeah, me too.

After all, this is the same Kenny Chesney that is responsible for songs like "She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy", a song that almost single-handedly embodies everything that keeps me from enjoying most of the modern country music I've heard.

This is the same Kenny Chesney that poses with an identical, smug look for all of his album covers. Keep in mind that I enjoy this song DESPITE that!

The sparse instrumentation and the message of the song work very well together. It's simple, and effective.

It's common to take our health for granted until something bad happens. For me it was recently becoming sick enough to spend my first night in a hospital, hooked up to an IV. One of the first steps that I took upon being released: drinking a lot more water, and a lot less soda.

Rachael asked me what I was planning to play today for my acoustic song a day project. I was leaning towards trying to tackle "Smile Please" by Stevie Wonder, but was open to any suggestion she might have. She suggested this song, and I'm looking forward to seeing if I can do it justice.

This is really a powerful, bittersweet song. The message is essentially "Please be aware that I will go out of my way to make you happy, even if it's at the expense of my own happiness."

I'm fairly certain that Warren Zevon played the piano part.

The opening cut from the album. Daryl makes it sound effortless as he weaves back and forth between his lower range and those high falsetto notes.

Sadly, the original version is not available on blip.fm, so I'm going to link to an acoustic cover I recorded this morning as part of a new YouTube project. The idea is to attempt to record an acoustic performance a day, or as often as I can, anyway.

I've been enjoying old school hip hop since it was new, so I can't believe it took me this long, but I finally bought my first rap album on VINYL yesterday: MF Doom's "Mm..Food?" It's already a favorite of mine, so I thought it would be great to have a vinyl copy. It is.

The only part that stinks: there's a mistake in the album's sequence and labeling. "One Beer" and "Potholderz" have been switched. I could understand if it was an issue of having the tracks fit on the record, but the labels and printed track order are both incorrect.

Still enjoyable, but this error messes up the rotation on an album that really should be heard in the correct sequence.
