Twitter * Game v1.00!

Hey Everyone,

Well, after many, many hours crying over ActionScript and trying to come up with decent metaphors, v1.00 hits the internet today! There are a few collision glitches, although if you walk through an obstacle that's currently intended. Secondly, the animation doesn't quite work yet (there maybe an update on that soon)

In the game the tag creates the obstacle in the game, and the rest of your tweet will decorate and fill in that obstacle. To get your tweet in the game, this is what you do:

“Your Tweet #tgame Tag”

So in the real world, it would look like:

“I’m dancing around to Daft Punk! #tgame music”

“@dude Why didn’t you get what I asked for? #tgame anger”

Make's sense? Good. The tags I would like you to use are as follows:

Where there is a slash, that means that tag will generate the same obstacle as others on the line

Hello everyone,

So after numerous delays, here is a pretty much final list of tags fot the version of my game I will be handing in later this week. Where you see slashes, this means that these tags will generate the same obstacle in the game, but retain there meaning outside of it.

Hey everyone!

I’m building a game for coursework that uses what people say on twitter to generate levels. Pretty cool, eh? However, because I’m not capable of programming natural language processing into flash, I need you to do me a favour. I need you to “Tag Your Tweets”.

So how’s this going to work then? Well, in the game the tag creates the obstacle in the game, and the rest of your tweet will decorate and fill in that obstacle. To get your tweet in the game, this is what you do:

“Your Tweet #tgame Tag”

So in the real world, it would look like:

“I’ve had a great day #tgame happy”

“I’m dancing around to Daft Punk! #tgame music”

“@dude Why didn’t you get what I asked for? #tgame anger”

Hopefully this makes sense!

What I would like to hear is your suggestions for tags and obstacles – leave a comment here or tweet about it (start with #tgamesuggest).

This project is due to be finished by the end of the month, and it’ll be put online for everyone to play and comment on.

What would a Coffee Cup Do?

You throw it away after you've consumed it's Boiling Hot caffeinated Innersole, but if it came to life, how would if effect the world?

Would it Shamelessly sell it's brand to on lookers? Would it Seek Love and Affection? How can it express it's self? Would it sing and dance? Write Poetry?

Cloud Machine Promo

The idea behind the cloud machine is one of ultimate convergence - What would happen to media if the traditional restrictions of Time, Location and Choice was torn down in one device?

This is something we are already heading towards with Video on demand services such as the BBC iPlayer and 4OD, Blogs and RSS delivering instant news, and with 3G and Wifi access slowly becoming ubiqutious across the country, you may already have a Cloud Machine in your backpack or your pocket.

Courseworks: Intergrated Datawork/Database Cinema

You can view my group project, the Randomiser, here. It's in flash and is rather slow running from an internet connection but it runs fine locally.

'Designed' as a tool to enhance the creative process, the Randomiser picks Three random clips from a Database, and plays them in three random positions on the stage. It has potential for some development, but in the current version it is rather crude.

Feel free to 'Play' with it. It's not the most wonderful of pieces, but it works and shouldn't wreck your computer.

A Long, Long Summer

So as I hurtle towards, rather shockingly quickly, the end of my first year of iDat, I'm faced with and inevitable truth:

A Four Month Summer.

I Won't be wasting this time, mind. I shall be working on a project to pass the time. But what?

Well that's where you come in, dear reader. Below, there are a few initial ideas, please feel free to comment on them or suggest other ideas. The list shall be added to, and have stuff removed from it it, until there is some clear ideas that are both interesting and feasible. At that point, I shall open a poll widget and leave it to both you and fellow readers to decide which project I shall undertake.

The First Ideas List is:

Simple Social Network - Cobble together a Social Networking Engine, likely with ASP (although it may be a good excuse to play with PHP) . Include very basic features like setting up friend relationships, searching and commenting profiles. This could serve as a foundation for potential future projects and coursework.
RPG Engine - As The Name suggest, build a 2D Role Playing Game Engine for an Idea between me and a Friend. It seems like it could be simple (I may be underestimating what 'simple' is) - A focus on OOP could streamline the project. It would most likely be made in XNA, so I'd have to roll up my sleeves and learn C++.
A Generically Pointless Facebook App - Build a Facebook (and/or OpenSocial) app, likely with ASP again. Can't really flesh this out anymore. An excuse to be blamed for spamming people perhaps?

This is the first version of my ident for the iDAT 103 coursework. This version is submitted without sound, so your speakers aren't broken!

I animated this in 3D Studio Max, and edited the video together with Premiere.

In the brief, it says to tell the audience something about yourself. My Message is how I've fallen through life, not really knowing what I want to do or were I was going, until I came to this course.

The following is a proposal for the iDAT 101 Social Interventions project

human.API is the largest Advanced Programming Interface project to Date. It's Aim, to enable developers to process unaltered Human Language, both visual and audio, as Queries and Data Inputs and provide tools across devices that enable consistent operation across devices. Use of human.API breaks down the interface barrier between person and computer, enabling one and another to communicate efficiently and semantically within an instant.

One of the first human.API certified devices is the Cloud Machine, one of a new breed of inter networked 'Infinite Media Players', the Cloud Machine can Access any Article, Piece of Music or Video form the network wirelessly, at no subscription fee to the user. The only cost is the cost of the device, and Media accessed is buffered by relevant advertising. human.API enhances the device by making the Cloud Machine infinitely usable to all.
