Summer 2009 Update

Summertime has returned to the desert Southwest with

115 °+ daily temperatures at least until late in October.

We enjoyed a two month spring break at our Waikiki Beach condo and returned to Bullhead City, AZ. in mid-May.

We attended quite a few slot/video poker tournaments with our casino friends during the final weeks of spring, including friends from Council Bluff, IA, Omaha, NE., Pinetop, AZ., Placentia, CA. & our local friends from Laughlin, NV. & Bullhead City, AZ.

While in Las Vegas we were able to spend time with our grandson Jarod, who is a bartender at the Mirage Hotel & Casinos Rhumbar & BLT Burger and his girlfriend August, who is a bartender at Onda Ristorante also in the Mirage.

In mid-June we were invited guests to see the Bette Midler Show at Caesars Palace Colosseum.

We have many exciting slot & video poker tournaments planned in Laughlin and at the Palazzo & Green Valley Ranch in Las Vegas in the upcoming first four weeks of the summer season, along with a Cousin’s reunion picnic & party, hopefully with all of Benay’s cousins in Santa Barbara, CA.

Again this summer we will be escaping the heat and heading to our Waikiki Beach condo in mid-July through September for another well deserved and relaxing summer break.

Hawaii, the 50th State, has planned many festivities for the August 21st celebration of the 50th anniversary of Statehood for us to attend.

Spring 2009 Update

now that spring time is here,
and whoever wakes in Waikiki Beach,
see's the most beautiful sun rises and
the awesome waves of the blue Pacific Ocean"

We had an event filled winter season, starting off by enjoying Christmas with the Zabel's, Dale, Connie, Katya & Alec at there home in Los Angeles, CA.

During the rest of the winter season we spent time with Bev & Art Miller, Bev & Jerry Ayotte, Joy & Bob Kirschner, Ellie & Dale Tilly, Gloria & Wally Nathan, Gloria & Bill Fletcher and Janis Nemeth at the many slot & video poker tournaments in Laughlin and Las Vegas at Harrah's, Paris, Flamingo, Wynn's, Encore, Venetian & the Palazzo.

As an extra treat we were able to spend time with our eldest grandson Jarod and his very good friend August, whenever we traveled up to Las Vegas. Jarod is now a bartender at Rhumbar, a new addition to the Mirage Hotel on the strip.

Laughlin & Bullhead City were inundated with Snowbirds this winter as there were RV's filling up all the parks with visitors from the Northwest states and Canada escaping the cold, snowy weather.

Dennis' sister Maureen & brother-in-law Jerry drove into Laughlin on Feb 18th in their very large RV, which is their 2nd home, to stay for over a month to be far away from the winter weather in St. Louis, MO.

We spent time with them in Bullhead City/Laughlin, attending the Rat Pack show and the Frankie Valli show and also at Harrah's, Venetian & Palazzo in Las Vegas, NV.

Trans World Airlines friends Kay & George Halliwell from Las Vegas & Mary (Kiel) & Bill Ross from St. Louis drove down to Laughlin, and we spent an enjoyable afternoon remembering and reminiscing about our 32 years of working for the great airline.

SPRING BREAK !!

After Maureen & Jerry depart Laughlin/Bullhead and move on to Pahrump, Nevada & Death Valley, California, we plan on catching an American Airlines flight for Honolulu and stay there until mid to late May, enjoying the spring time balmy temperatures and caressing island trade winds, returning so we can be in Bullhead City for Memorial Day weekend and the beginning of the summer season.

We will also be attending the Bette Midler show at Caesars Palace in mid-June, another wonderful entertainer born and raise in Honolulu. She worked at a Dole pineapple processing plant in Hawaii in her early years, graduated from Radford High School, Honolulu, Hawaii in 1963, majored in drama at the University of Hawaii at Manoa

Our next planned trip to Waikiki Beach will be in July for a few months, as we want to be in the islands for the 50th anniversary of the 50th State on August 21st. The Hawaii Travel & Visitor's Bureau and the State of Hawaii have planned many parades and festivals to celebrate the anniversary in the great outdoor manner and Aloha spirit that Hawaii is known for.

WINTER UPDATE

We will be attending many Slot, Bingo & Video Poker tournaments in Laughlin & Las Vegas, NV. this winter and we will be driving to Los Angeles to celebrate the Christmas Holiday’s with the Zabel family, Dale, Connie, Kayta & Alec.

We will also be in Las Vegas, NV. for the Gala New Years Eve Party at Sam’s Town and another celebration at the Flamingo Hotel & Casino on the strip. After January 4th, we have been invited to spend 3 complimentary nights at Encore, Steve Wynn’s newest strip hotel along with other great amenities.

We have planned a winter trip to Waikiki Beach in mid-January for about a month of relaxation, followed by a return to Las Vegas to see Elton John’s “The Piano Man” show at Caesars Palace in mid-February.

In late February, Dennis’ sister Maureen and husband Jerry will be driving their RV to Arizona and Nevada and will spend about a month leaving in late March. We will be spending time with them in Laughlin and Las Vegas.

After their departure from AZ.-NV, we will take another Waikiki Beach trip and be in Hawaii for the beginning of spring.

FALL UPDATE

We ended the summer in our Waikiki Beach condo in beautiful Oahu, Hawaii, and plan to stay until early October before returning home to Bullhead City, AZ.

Our schedule includes visiting Jarod, our grandson and August, his best friend, now living in Las Vegas and three Slot & Video Poker tournaments in Laughlin, NV. & Las Vegas, NV. Those events will be followed by a driving trip to St. Louis, MO. to visit family & friends and attend a TWA Reunion Party in Florissant, MO.

After that we will head north to Chicago, IL. to visit Benay’s 2nd cousin, Leah, who lives in Evanston, IL. and spends most of the winter in LaJolla, CA.

Following the Chicago visit we will drive through Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Colorado, Utah & Nevada to return home to Bullhead City, AZ. before the fall weather turns the Rockies into a winter wonderland. Our planned stopover in Council Bluffs, Iowa at Harrah’s will include a visit with casino friends whom we spent time with in New Orleans during the Millionaire Maker finals in November 2007.

In November we will travel back home to Waikiki Beach as we have doctors and dental appointments along with Dennis’ 65th birthday and Thanksgiving Day Dinner plans.

We will return to Bullhead City, AZ in mid December and we will attend many Slot, Bingo & Video Poker tournaments in Laughlin & Las Vegas, NV. and be in Arizona for the beginning of winter and celebrate the Christmas Holiday’s with casino friends and neighbors.

We plan to be in Las Vegas, NV. for the Gala New Years Eve Party at the Green Valley Ranch Resort.

Summer 2008 Update

Summertime is here and we will have very warm, 115 °+, clear, dry and sunny days in Bullhead City at least until the beginning of October.

We played in a lot of Slot / Video Poker / Blackjack tournaments here in Laughlin and up in Las Vegas over the past three months and we met lots of retiree’s like us who enjoy the casino tournaments. Other than the increasing price of gasoline, all of the Las Vegas trips included free rooms and some complimentary meals and shows. We are doing what seniors do best, enjoying our retirement.

This summer we will be able to escape the heat and head to our getaway condo in Waikiki Beach in between casino summer tournaments. With the minor downturn in the economy, the airlines are planning on cutting flights this fall and the summer hotel occupancy in Waikiki Beach is down a mere 20%. So the downside is that we may experience a few full flights commuting to paradise.
