First Peek

Only a peek at the kitchen for now, because the house and yard are completely empty.

I'm actually pretty excited about the kitchen because the appliances had not yet been installed when I was down there. I'm happy to see stainless steel, but more importantly, GAS RANGE. Seriously, you don't know how happy I am to be cooking with gas instead of electric. Makes me almost get over the fact that the microwave is located directly above the range (a pet peeve of mine).

* There's a reason for those missing doors. They've been taken off to prevent pilfering, I've been told.

Not Since Middle School

I haven't worn shoes this chunky since middle school (which I can't believe was 10 years ago!).

But I like the rustic red... and the inches they add to my 5'2" self. I haven't fallen over or twisted my ankle in these, so I think they're keepers :)

Anyway, enough with the shoes. My next post will be about my new house, because move-in day's just 3 weeks away!

Silver Shoes

When my cousin, the bride, told us to find strappy silver heels, I thought, "Oh, that'll be easy."

I was entirely wrong.

It was surprisingly difficult to find a pair of strappy silver heels in stores (that didn't cost an arm and a leg). Strappy silver gladiator flats and wedges were abound, but alas, nothing suitable for a traditional bridesmaid.

Luckily I found this Nine West pair on amazon a couple days ago. They're cute and something that I'd definitely wear again after the wedding. And the best part is that they're on sale for less than $30. So inexpensive that I'm considering purchasing another pair in either green or orange.

Cute, yes? Let's hope they're comfortable. At least I've got a little over a month to break them in if need be.

These yellow wedges arrived recently, and unfortunately they were not as cute in person. Sent back, they were, and the yellow shoe-search continues.

Another unfortunate is the wet, cold weather of late. It's nearly mid-June and the temperatures are still dipping below 50.

There was a ridiculously long line at the boat launch this past Saturday, and we must've waited nearly an hour before finally getting into the water. But it was all so very worth it.

Restaurant Rec: Ivar's Salmon House

My brother and I treated our mother (and father) to dinner at Ivar's Salmon House (one of our family's favorite restaurants) for Mother's Day.

My order: Pan seared sea scallops drizzled with a satsuma orange-Cinzano reduction sauce, served with mashed potatoes topped with a Washington Gala apple and fennel salad.

The food was delicious.

A highly recommended restaurant for those who live in/near or visit Seattle. Located right next to the water, we enjoy many a happy hour and the occasional dinner on their outside patio.

Classic Never Goes Out of Style

So say the folks over at Hudson. And I couldn't agree more when I saw this dining table. The color, the curves, the clawfoot detail -- this table is seriously sexy as well as classic.

And if it were an appropriate fit for my new home, I'd buy it in an instant. Unfortunately, the size of my dining space requires something a little more large.

Fortunately, I found another table that's classic in its own right and just right for the wallet as well. Sturdy, large, simple and clean -- this table from West Elm can easily be built upon to fit whatever color and styling I decide to go with.

So, the dining table is set. My very first furniture purchase decision. I still need a bed, vanity, desk, sofa, barstools, dining chairs, et cetera. Oh my. Good thing I'm not moving until the end of July!

Old Find: Egg Box

Recently, I've begun taking inventory of various stored knick knacks and pieces, uncovering old treasures and seeing what can be given new life in my new home.

This particular piece was given to me by my art teacher 10 years ago. I packed it away when my old bedroom was torn down during the house remodel and unfortunately forgot about it amidst the switching of rooms.

I call it the "egg" box for obvious reasons. It's quirky and a little odd looking, but I like it. Since it's literally the size of an egg, I think it will serve well to hold rings or other small pieces of jewelry.

Green Flickr Favorites

*I've decided that I will have a green room in my new home. I'm leaning towards the master bath. Right now it's entirely white. Perhaps I'll paint the walls a light, bright shade of sorbet green.

What I love about my new house is that the living room, dining room, kitchen and family room aren't separated by walls and flow directly into one another, essentially creating one giant studio-like space. Considering the expanse of the space (12 foot ceilings!), I've decided to stick with a light wall color to keep the bright and lofty feel that made me pick this house in the first place.

While I've enjoyed looking at all these paint samples, deciding on one color is not easy!

I'm leaning towards Calla Lily and Roadster White (which look oh so similar, right?). But then there are days when I love pink (Candelabra White), and other days when I love darker shades (Wicker Mat or Architectural Off-White). Though if I were basing my choice on name alone, I'd probably choose Evocative Sunlight. Since it's been snowing in Seattle (In April!) and I very much miss the sun!
