This past July we held our First Annual Customer/Staff Appreciation BBQ! A great time was had by all! We set up in the picnic area next to the pond here on the grounds of the Cummings Center where our office is located. We were joined by most of our staff and several of our local clients. Here are a few pictures from the day...

Southwest now flies out of Boston - Logan Airport!

Great news for fans of the low-cost carrier Southwest Airlines that would rather not travel to Providence or Manchester to catch a flight! Southwest is now offering several flights in and out of Boston's Logan Airport each day! They are currently offering approximately 10 daily non-stop flights to Chicago - Midway Airport and Baltimore-Washington International Airport. Though this may seem limited at first, travelers should be aware that BWI is an important location for north-south connections on Southwest, making many of the major destinations on the East Coast accessible and affordable to travelers departing from BOS. Despite Southwest only offering flights to two cities from Boston at the present time, passngers will have access to over 48 different connections in Southwest's flight network. Southwest does plan to add more flights in the future after establishing themselves at Logan Airport.

Southwest Airlines is currently operating out of Termina E at Logan Airport.

"There has been a significant jump in the number of leisure travelers booking flights on US Airways, CEO Doug Parker is quoted as saying by Dow Jones Newswires. "We have seen a small uptick in leisure bookings over the past couple months," Parker says. "We don't know what it means yet but there is something going on there." Dow Jones writes "Parker declined to disclose a percentage change but added that the increase is material." The Philadelphia Inquirer writes Parker says the "uptick" is "significant" and seems to indicate more than the typical summer surge in leisure travel."

Day In The Cloud

I thought this to be something fun that would be of interest to both our frequent travelers and those that only venture out ocassionally. Virgin America Airlines and GoogleApps have teamed up for the Day In The Cloud Challenge. Taking place on Wednesday June 24, it is an online scavenger hunt that you can take part in from anywhere on earth or in the sky.

Here is a brief description taken from the website:

Going green....interesting

Another article that caught my eye today was about a recent study that showed that people living in cities produced less greenhouse gasses than those people living in suburban or rural areas. However, the actual cities produce more greenhouse gasses per acre than suburbs or rural areas. An interesting paradox indeed.

In an effort to expand the topics our blog covers I will be highlighting information culled from what is happening in our world day to day. The topics will still relate back to this industry.

One article I read today that caught my eye was about a $500 billion transportation bill currently being proposed to Congress to overhaul federal policies on roads, bridges, transit, and trains. Being a livery company this is of great interest to our industry.
