Her paintings can only be described as "joyful." Their exhuberance of life is conveyed through her vibrant colors, strong patterns, and disproportionate elements. Her flowers and vases look as if they're dancing to some fabulous music playing within the painting. Not surprisingly, Joyce calls these her "UNStill Life" series. <span style="font-style: italic;">A Good Folly</span> is a stunning example of her contemporary floral acrylics. The sense of movement she has captured within the background draws your eye toward the blue vase in the center of the painting, which then allows you to absorb the rest of the scene. Joyce's abstracted backgrounds leave her paintings open to interpretation.<br /><br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://bp1.blogger.com/_E-zwtXtdjEQ/SHzY5ES7AVI/AAAAAAAAAnk/nCozAF5K97M/s1600-h/LIJ435.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_E-zwtXtdjEQ/SHzY5ES7AVI/AAAAAAAAAnk/nCozAF5K97M/s320/LIJ435.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5223288142760182098" border="0" /></a><span style="font-size:85%;"><span style="font-style: italic;">Golden Tulips</span></span><br /></div><span style="font-size:85%;">Joyce Lieberman<br />Acrylic on Canvas</span><br /></div><br />Joyce is just as expressive on canvas as she is on paper. She has a very distinct artistic voice, whether she is painting abstracts or representational images. <span style="font-style: italic;">Golden Tulips</span> has a completely different feel from <span style="font-style: italic;">A Good Folly,</span> but is just as joyful. Her tulips seem to glow and light up the rest of the canvas. Characteristic of Joyce, the fruits and bowl and vase have a movement all their own, again as if swaying to some inner music created by paintbrush.<br /><br />Would you like to be notified by email when we get more works by Joyce Lieberman? This year Chemers Gallery is proud to have five of our artists showing in Art-A-Fair, The Festival of Arts, and The Sawdust Festival in Laguna Beach. Below is a quick look at participating artists Mary Aslin, Yachiyo Beck, Sandy Clark, Gerald Schwartz, and Lilia Venier.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-weight: bold;">Mary Aslin</span><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://bp3.blogger.com/_E-zwtXtdjEQ/SHOr9GFOwPI/AAAAAAAAAmk/Noa3Mh8zxPE/s1600-h/ASM110.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_E-zwtXtdjEQ/SHOr9GFOwPI/AAAAAAAAAmk/Noa3Mh8zxPE/s320/ASM110.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5220705459145457906" border="0" /></a><span style="font-size:85%;"><span style="font-style: italic;">Peonies in all Their Glory</span></span><br /></div><span style="font-size:85%;">Mary Aslin<br />Pastel</span><br /></div><br />Pastel artist Mary Aslin specializes in painting from life, whether it is still life, human figure, or plein air, and prefers to interpret the subject in real time. Her award winning pastels have been shown all over the southland, including Chemers Gallery. This year, Mary is participating in both Art-A-Fair and The Sawdust Festival. If you stop in at her booth, be sure to congratulate her on her recent third place award at the San Clemente Plein Air Quick Draw!<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-weight: bold;">Yachiyo Beck</span><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://bp3.blogger.com/_E-zwtXtdjEQ/SHOr3NqSULI/AAAAAAAAAmc/-snh4HCLujc/s1600-h/YAC106.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_E-zwtXtdjEQ/SHOr3NqSULI/AAAAAAAAAmc/-snh4HCLujc/s320/YAC106.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5220705358100713650" border="0" /></a><span style="font-size:85%;"><span style="font-style: italic;">A Walk in the Afternoon II</span></span><br /></div><span style="font-size:85%;">Yachiyo Beck<br />Watercolor</span><br /></div><br />Yachiyo Beck has worked in a wide variety of mediums, including pencil, charcoal, pastels, and oils. She's currently focused on watercolors, and with them creates images that allow her viewers to escape from their every day lives. Her paintings are gentle and serene, and lead you right into their world, if only for a little while. Yachiyo is exhibiting at the Festival of Arts.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-weight: bold;">Sandy Clark</span><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://bp2.blogger.com/_E-zwtXtdjEQ/SHOrxMqJ0QI/AAAAAAAAAmU/bWyLkglNvCI/s1600-h/CLS210.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_E-zwtXtdjEQ/SHOrxMqJ0QI/AAAAAAAAAmU/bWyLkglNvCI/s320/CLS210.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5220705254752506114" border="0" /></a><span style="font-size:85%;"><span style="font-style: italic;">Still Life Illusion II</span></span><br /></div><span style="font-size:85%;">Sandy Clark<br />Watercolor on Yupo</span><br /></div><br />Sandy Clark is intrigued by the use of various water media. Reinterpreting nature and the structural world around us by using non-traditional techniques, she finds adventure in each painting, with surprising and mysterious results. In addition working in a variety of media, she paints on yupo and other surfaces that add to the unpredictability and excitement of her work. Sandy will be at Art-A-Fair this year.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-weight: bold;">Gerald Schwartz</span><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://bp1.blogger.com/_E-zwtXtdjEQ/SHOrpDnoT2I/AAAAAAAAAmM/5t_zuayHIQw/s1600-h/SGE166.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_E-zwtXtdjEQ/SHOrpDnoT2I/AAAAAAAAAmM/5t_zuayHIQw/s320/SGE166.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5220705114887049058" border="0" /></a><span style="font-size:85%;"><span style="font-style: italic;">Last Call</span></span><br /></div><span style="font-size:85%;">Gerald Schwartz<br />Oil on Canvas</span><br /></div><br />Gerald Schwartz is probably best recognized by his photo-realistic sky paintings. We couldn't count the number of times our customers have mistaken his beautiful oil painting on canvas for an enlarged color photograph! Gerald's sky paintings are seamless in their technique, and are stunning representations of amazing skies, clouds, and sunsets. His recent work incorporates retro design elements, which creates an overall nostalgic feel.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-weight: bold;">Lilia Venier</span><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://bp3.blogger.com/_E-zwtXtdjEQ/SHOrhHTuRPI/AAAAAAAAAmE/26xnktfFY70/s1600-h/VL100.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_E-zwtXtdjEQ/SHOrhHTuRPI/AAAAAAAAAmE/26xnktfFY70/s320/VL100.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5220704978438341874" border="0" /></a><span style="font-size:85%;"><span style="font-style: italic;">Leaf Bottle Multi-Color</span></span><br /></div><span style="font-size:85%;">Lilia Venier<br />Ceramic</span><br /></div><br />Ceramicist Lilia Venier comes from a background in business studies. On a whim she signed up for art classes and discovered a great talent and enjoyment. She creates wonderfully tactile objects that cry out to be touched. Lilia uses a variety of techniques in her practice, such as raku, low firing, stoneware, and porcelain. Focusing on just one technique would be "boring" for Lilia! She has exhibited her work throughout the United States, including at the American Ceramics Society President's Show. She is exhibiting her beautiful ceramics at Art-A-Fair.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;">This is a great time to go out and support our local creative talents.<br />Tell the artists that Chemers Gallery sent you!<br /></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;">For directions and more information about each festival, please click on the links below:<br /><br /><a href="http://www.art-a-fair.com/">Art-A-Fair</a><br />June 27-August 31<br /><br /><a href="http://foapom.com/">The Festival of Arts</a><br />July 6-August 30<br /><br /><a href="http://www.sawdustartfestival.org/summer_show/summershow.htm">The Sawdust Festival</a><br />June 27-August31<br /></div><br />Would you like to be notified by email when we have new work from any of the above artists? Until then, he had never shown his work in a gallery setting. Not only were both of his paintings juried into the exhibition, but each won a blue ribbon in two separate divisions, and they were the first two from the show to sell. Since then, John continues to bring us stunning southern California landscapes that we're only too happy to accept.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.chemersgallery.com/Art_Images/medium/SJ109.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px;" src="http://www.chemersgallery.com/Art_Images/medium/SJ109.JPG" alt="" border="0" /></a><span style="font-size:85%;"><span style="font-style: italic;">Summer Day</span></span><br /></div><span style="font-size:85%;">John Sawyer</span><br /></div><br />John has learned about painting mostly through years spent copying the paintings of the Masters. He confessed that he only began creating his own original pieces about a year ago. <span style="font-style: italic;">Summer Day</span> is one of the most recent paintings he's brought to us. We just love the blue of his sky and the greens of his leaves. Photographs really don't do it justice, it's so much more impressive seen in person!<br /><br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.chemersgallery.com/Art_Images/medium/SJ102.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px;" src="http://www.chemersgallery.com/Art_Images/medium/SJ102.JPG" alt="" border="0" /></a><span style="font-size:85%;"><span style="font-style: italic;">After the Rain</span></span><br /></div><span style="font-size:85%;">John Sawyer</span><br /></div><br />John's oils bring to mind the paintings of the 1930's. Rita mentioned that his work reminds her of the artist Gustav Baumann. John's paintings also bring to mind stained glass with their black outlines. His colors are slightly muted with subtle pops of vibrancy, much like the desert landscapes of California. He captures the feel of the landscape perfectly, like in the above <span style="font-style: italic;">After the Rain</span>. You can almost feel the cool breeze whispering though the eucalyptus leaves and smell the rain-soaked greenery. We've seen many people stopped in their tracks by John's beautiful pieces. We can't wait to see what's next for this talented painter!<br /><br />Be sure to look at our <a href="http://www.chemersgallery.com/">website</a> for more of John's work, or just come into Chemers Gallery! We recently received eight new paintings by the German painter, each one brighter than the next. Maria's use of bright colors and playful composition is both refreshing and exciting. She loves to paint, and finds inspiration everywhere. Maria makes it a habit to paint daily to expand and explore her talents. In addition to painting, Maria has also developed her own style of intaglio monoprinting from experimenting in a variety of media. <span style="font-style: italic;">Summer</span> shows Maria's innocent yet sophisticated color pallet and the unique sense of space she conveys in each piece. She creates a greater depth in her contemporary paintings with the use of three dimensional textures. You can't help but be happy when you look at her work - her fresh and vibrant colors brighten any dark mood.<br /></span><br /><br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.chemersgallery.com/Art_Images/medium/MMA101.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px;" src="http://www.chemersgallery.com/Art_Images/medium/MMA101.JPG" alt="" border="0" /></a><span class="id14_21" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-style: italic;font-size:85%;" >Figs</span><span style="font-size:85%;"><br /></span><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="id14_21" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);font-size:85%;" >Maria Mayr</span><br /></div></div><span class="id14_21" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);"><br /><span style="font-style: italic;">Figs</span> is part of Maria's fruit and vegetable still life series. One of our newest additions to this family is Joseph Stoddard, a <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">watercolorist</span> who pushes the boundaries of the medium, and ultimately challenges what we as viewers think a watercolor painting is.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://bp2.blogger.com/_E-zwtXtdjEQ/SDXAHSkaMvI/AAAAAAAAAkM/gM7g2QhLawk/s1600-h/STJ103.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_E-zwtXtdjEQ/SDXAHSkaMvI/AAAAAAAAAkM/gM7g2QhLawk/s320/STJ103.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5203276175972643570" border="0" /></a><span style="font-size:85%;"><span style="font-style: italic;">LA River Footbridge Triptych</span></span><br /></div><span style="font-size:85%;">Joseph Stoddard</span><br /></div><br />Joseph started painting in watercolor while he was at art school in Denver, Colorado. Afterwards, he held a variety of arts and graphics related jobs, including teaching graphic design at the Art Center. He soon felt a need to take his own painting off the back burner and devote more time to it. He began documenting the changes his hometown of Pasadena was going through in sketches and paintings. This led to involvement with a series of projects, including the Showcase House and The California Art Club Artists for Architecture Painting Project. It's easy to see Joseph's architectural influences from works such as the above <span style="font-style: italic;">LA River Footbridge Triptych</span>. He has the wonderful ability to combine the straight lines of the bridges and buildings with the colorful fluidity of nature to create an image that is strikingly organic in appearance.<br /><br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://bp2.blogger.com/_E-zwtXtdjEQ/SDW_dSkaMuI/AAAAAAAAAkE/aIowAmHwJO4/s1600-h/STJ100.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_E-zwtXtdjEQ/SDW_dSkaMuI/AAAAAAAAAkE/aIowAmHwJO4/s320/STJ100.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5203275454418137826" border="0" /></a><span style="font-size:85%;"><span style="font-style: italic;">Downtown From Sunset Blvd.</span></span><br /></div><span style="font-size:85%;">Joseph Stoddard</span><br /></div><br />Joseph works in such a unique way with his watercolors. He incorporates pen and ink, pencil sketches, and even photographs to create a look that is completely his own. Joseph also plays with different presentation ideas, often adhering his paintings on paper to canvas or board, or encasing them in <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">plexiglass</span> boxes. <span style="font-style: italic;">Downtown From Sunset Blvd.</span> has been mounted onto board, with visible pen and pencil marks. You can see each layer of paint that's been applied and each step of Joseph's process. His unique treatment of certain watercolors like <span style="font-style: italic;">Downtown From Sunset Blvd.</span> allow for hanging without glass. In this way, his paintings are like the architectural structures he turns his attentions to.<br /><br />Joseph's mixed media watercolors are viewable on our <a href="http://www.chemersgallery.com/">website</a>, and of course, on our walls. Both are now in college, and we at the gallery love hearing how they're doing, from earning straight A's to attending human rights rallys. Karen exposed both girls to different kinds of foods from around the world, artwork and artifacts in museums, and gave them work experience here at Chemers Gallery.<br /><br /><br /><br />Big Brothers Big Sisters is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, and to help mark the occasion, the Orange County Register published an article featuring a few of the organization's volunteers and their stories. Karen was one of those selected. Being a Big Brother or a Big Sister means that you're mentoring a child and helping them to achieve their full potential. Studies have shown that children involved in the program who meet with their mentors regularly are less likely to be involved with drugs or alcohol, behave in a violent manner, become a teen parent, or drop out of school. Instead, they're more likely to have self-confidence, exhibit a better academic performance, have better relationships and decision making skills, and have a sense of future. To find out more about becoming involved in this great organization, visit their <a href="http://www.bbbs.org/">website.</a><br /><br /><br /><a style="font-weight: bold; color: rgb(204, 51, 204);" href="http://ui.constantcontact.com/sa/fp.jsp?plat=i&p=f&m=okmzdncab">SEND PAGE TO A FRIEND</a><br /><span style="color: rgb(204, 51, 204);font-size:78%;" ><span style="font-style: italic;">pop-ups must be enabled by browser</span></span>chemersgalleryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12320792736378025676noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8855816719451663316.post-15105501670588314402008-05-20T11:06:00.000-07:002008-05-20T11:17:10.510-07:00Through the Eyes of Leslie Lowinger<div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://bp2.blogger.com/_E-zwtXtdjEQ/SDMTjmFjGUI/AAAAAAAAAj8/-ZS-TpVN6NQ/s1600-h/LLE126.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_E-zwtXtdjEQ/SDMTjmFjGUI/AAAAAAAAAj8/-ZS-TpVN6NQ/s320/LLE126.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5202523496783223106" border="0" /></a><span style="font-size:85%;"><span style="font-style: italic;">The City That Does Not Reveal Its Secrets</span><br />Leslie Lowinger</span><br /></div><br />Leslie Lowinger has put her own creative stamp on her etchings inspired by living in large cities like New York and San Francisco. Chemers Gallery has just received eight new works by this accomplished printmaker. Leslie uses a method of simultaniously printing and collaging known as<span style="font-style: italic;"> chine cole</span>, which translated from French means "Chinese collage." <span style="font-style: italic;">The City That Does Not Reveal Its Secrets</span> depicts huge tower blocks filled with windows. In several of the windows, Leslie has created individual stories about the residents and their lives within their dwelling. An amourous couple, someone pacing restlessly back and forth - all are situations viewable through the windows of an apartment building. Well, all except the tiny witch flying on her broomstick!<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://bp1.blogger.com/_E-zwtXtdjEQ/SDMTaWFjGTI/AAAAAAAAAj0/s1o7s16K-Ps/s1600-h/LLE121.JPG"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_E-zwtXtdjEQ/SDMTaWFjGTI/AAAAAAAAAj0/s1o7s16K-Ps/s320/LLE121.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5202523337869433138" border="0" /></a><span style="font-style: italic;">Walking Stick-Building</span> continues Leslie's investigation into the lives of city-dwellers. His elliptical bowls are a work of art in themselves. Each piece casts unusual, organic reflections onto the surrounding surfaces, transforming the very space they're in. The surface pattern of the glass results from the particular metallic glazing and its reaction to the gravitational forming of each bowl. Scott also designs the bases his bowls sit it from a combination of wood and copper, giving the work an elemental feel.<br /><br />Scott came to glass work from an education in ecomonics and a career in the metal casting industry. He terms his production of art glass as "evolutionary" because it is ever-changing. "It has been said...'man cannot duplicate nature, but only represent it.' I hope every piece I create, combining natural and manmade materials, is a reflection of that statement. It is the discovery and application of various elemental materials which enables me to create a unique body of work." -Scott Amrhein<br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.chemersgallery.com/Art_Images/medium/SI107.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 200px;" src="http://www.chemersgallery.com/Art_Images/medium/SI107.JPG" alt="" border="0" /></a><br />Randi Solin's new work is stunning. Her glass vessels are beautiful creations with surprising hidden details, like the twisting and turning to suggest a woman's hips and back. She creates amazing depth of color and light in her glass vessels by using layers of glass, sheets of sterling silver, and strands of steel wool. Each piece has a designated "front," which Randi achieves in the same way a painter creates his focal point.<br /><br />Randi has been blowing glass for over twenty years, using techniques from both the Venetian style and the American Art Glass movement. Her work is housed in permanent collections all over the world, including the White House.<br /><br />Come into Chemers Gallery to view these and other spectacular glass art pieces!<br /><br /><span style="font-style: italic;">If you'd like to receive email updates about these artists or new glass art click the link below and choose glass art and/or click the artists names.</span><table style="text-align: left; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="200"><tbody><tr><br /><td nowrap="nowrap"><div style="margin-right: 3px; margin-top: 2px; background-color: rgb(255, 153, 0);"><a href="http://visitor.constantcontact.com/d.jsp?m=1102099296590&p=oi" target="_blank"><img src="http://img.constantcontact.com/ui/images1/visitor/email2_trans.gif" border="0" /></a></div></td><br /><td style="color: rgb(153, 51, 153);" nowrap="nowrap" width="100%"><a href="http://visitor.constantcontact.com/d.jsp?m=1102099296590&p=oi" target="_blank" style="font-family: Verdana,Geneva,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">JOIN OUR EMAIL LIST (or Update Your Preferences)</a></td><br /></tr></tbody></table>chemersgalleryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12320792736378025676noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8855816719451663316.post-86561110430079630932008-05-05T16:44:00.001-07:002008-05-05T17:56:33.777-07:00The Many Faces of Jennie Tomao<div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://bp3.blogger.com/_E-zwtXtdjEQ/SB-dMX599qI/AAAAAAAAAic/XMt5CPXGi1I/s1600-h/TOJ253.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_E-zwtXtdjEQ/SB-dMX599qI/AAAAAAAAAic/XMt5CPXGi1I/s200/TOJ253.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5197045330909984418" border="0" /></a><span style="font-size:78%;"><span style="font-style: italic;">Tulips in Glass</span></span><br /></div><br />Jennie Tomao's work is a constant and refreshing surprise. She applies her characteristic jewel-like colors to every subject she approaches, but the method in which she carries out each painting varies as much as her subject matter. From Tuscan scenes to floral still life, from forest landscapes to elegant portraits, Jennie's work exhibits the same wonderful attention to light and form and the way the two interact with each other. Each work of art leaves you with a sense of calm and peace. <span style="font-style: italic;">Tulips in Glass</span> evokes early spring days and the excitement of the new growth and life that the season brings. She was featured in the July 2006 issue of SouthwestArt magazine as an "artist to watch". Check out the article <a href="http://www.southwestart.com/document/360"><span style="font-style: italic;font-size:85%;" >HERE</span>.</a> Bonnie's pieces have a vibrantly colorful glow that makes the viewer feel as if she's inviting you into the landscape with her. She works with a pallet knife, which gives her landscapes an Impressionistic feel and creates a very tactile composition. She captures the mood of the landscape perfectly, instilling the time of day and the slant of the sunlight into each piece. Bonnie travels extensively, and has painted scenes of the Solomon Islands, Idaho, and even our own City of Tustin!<br /><br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://bp2.blogger.com/_E-zwtXtdjEQ/SBZj0X599mI/AAAAAAAAAh0/NyG8Zc14qco/s1600-h/ASM110.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_E-zwtXtdjEQ/SBZj0X599mI/AAAAAAAAAh0/NyG8Zc14qco/s200/ASM110.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5194448971639944802" border="0" /></a><span style="font-size:78%;"><span style="font-style: italic;">Peonies in All Their Glory</span><br />Mary Aslin</span><br /></div><br />Mary is primarily a pastel artist, although she works with oils as well. We love the pieces they've each sent us, and we're confident that you will too.</span><br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://bp2.blogger.com/_E-zwtXtdjEQ/R_bFDMLCFPI/AAAAAAAAAf0/amwyoRCzTr0/s1600-h/IMG_5572.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_E-zwtXtdjEQ/R_bFDMLCFPI/AAAAAAAAAf0/amwyoRCzTr0/s200/IMG_5572.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5185548679561483506" border="0" /></a><span style="font-size:85%;">Necklace by KO Design</span><br /><br /></div><span style="font-size:100%;">Kim Otterbein has had a life-long love for beads. She's a dedicated instructor of beading workshops and classes, as well as an accomplished artisan and silversmith. Color, pattern, and fibers have always attracted her, which is very befitting for someone whose training includes textile design and painting. Kim also works with metal, precious metal clay, and polymer clay to create her designs. The selection of necklaces and earrings we've received from her plays up her expertise perfectly with their combinations of metals stamped with organic designs, paired with complementary shapes, beads, and color combinations. Her jewelry is layered with subtle patters and intricate designs.</span><br /><br /><br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://bp1.blogger.com/_E-zwtXtdjEQ/R_bEf8LCFMI/AAAAAAAAAfc/Cg5zTORDfD8/s1600-h/IMG_5570.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_E-zwtXtdjEQ/R_bEf8LCFMI/AAAAAAAAAfc/Cg5zTORDfD8/s200/IMG_5570.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5185548073971094722" border="0" /></a><span style="font-size:85%;">Ring by Ithil Metal Works<br /><br /></span></div><span style="font-size:100%;">Israel Ben-Haroush and Gilli Dagmi founded Ithil Metal Works over ten years ago in Tel Aviv, Israel. They produce stunning designs from sterling silver, gold, and semi-precious stones. We've received a collection of rings from Ithil that are just gorgeous, with bold, thick designs featuring hammered metal and thin dual-colored movable bands, as well as delicate filigree. The designers of Ithil strive to embody the spirit of the modern woman. Their kinetic rings are fantastic and make pleasing little jingling noises as they move.</span><br /><br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://bp1.blogger.com/_E-zwtXtdjEQ/R_bEY8LCFLI/AAAAAAAAAfU/fIMnwPOdOYI/s1600-h/in+focus.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_E-zwtXtdjEQ/R_bEY8LCFLI/AAAAAAAAAfU/fIMnwPOdOYI/s200/in+focus.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5185547953712010418" border="0" /></a><br /><span style="font-size:85%;">Rings by Ithil Metal Works<br /><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;">Hurry into Chemers Gallery before all of these wonderful pieces are snapped up!<br /></div>chemersgalleryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12320792736378025676noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8855816719451663316.post-3311188977511555112008-04-07T12:20:00.000-07:002008-04-11T16:14:18.744-07:00SAVE THE DATE! An insurance salesman by day, he felt an affinity with the medium of watercolor and began the process of educating himself through reading and practice. Feeling self-education insufficient he began taking workshops with the masters such as artists Joe Stoddard, Eric Weingardt, Mel Stabin, and Judy Schroeder. Pete's beautiful watercolors are brand new to Chemers Gallery, and we're so excited to have them!<br /></div><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://bp1.blogger.com/_E-zwtXtdjEQ/R-VAYMLCFDI/AAAAAAAAAeI/KOrJr_6340g/s1600-h/RP105.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_E-zwtXtdjEQ/R-VAYMLCFDI/AAAAAAAAAeI/KOrJr_6340g/s200/RP105.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5180617730688160818" border="0" /></a><br /><span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-weight: bold;">"Crystal Cove Colors"<br /></span></span><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-weight: bold;"><span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-weight: bold;"><br /></span></span></span></span><div style="text-align: left;">Pete most enjoys painting landscapes in plein air, but he also paints floral still life when he can't get out of doors. <span style="font-style: italic;">Crystal Cove Colors</span> was painted from a sketch he made sitting at the Shake Shack along the Pacific Coast Highway. The view is instantly recognizable to anyone who's ever enjoyed a milkshake or two on the bluff overlooking the Pacific. This painting, with its vibrant color, brings back the sounds of the surf, the feel of the hot summer sun, and the sweet taste of ice cream.<br /><br /><span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-weight: bold;"></span></span></div><span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-weight: bold;"><span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-weight: bold;"></span></span></span></span><span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-weight: bold;"></span></span></div></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://bp0.blogger.com/_E-zwtXtdjEQ/R-VAL8LCFCI/AAAAAAAAAeA/IQZzFqlD5k8/s1600-h/RP107.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_E-zwtXtdjEQ/R-VAL8LCFCI/AAAAAAAAAeA/IQZzFqlD5k8/s200/RP107.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5180617520234763298" border="0" /></a><br /><span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-weight: bold;">"Autumn Afternoon, Claremont"<br /></span></span><div style="text-align: center;"><div style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-weight: bold;"><span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-weight: bold;"><span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-weight: bold;"></span></span></span></span></span></span><br /><span>Pete has captured a gorgeous Californian fall day in</span><span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-style: italic;"> </span> Autumn Afternoon, Claremont</span>. Claremont has wonderfully unique houses and trees, just right for the inspiration that Pete was looking for. The composition of the painting and the fall colors complement each other wonderfully, and works together to evoke that nostalgia we all feel for a crisp and clear autumn day. Another appeal that Claremont has is a certain absence of people wandering around, which means less distractions for the artist.<br /><br />Pete related that when he was just starting out in his artistic journey, he felt a little insecure about painting in the open, just as we all do when starting something new. He was painting one day in Cape May, New Jersey where a passerby saw Pete's sketches, and gave an impromptu critique, most of which was negative. Determined and undaunted, Pete simply needed practice. Ten years later, his practice has certainly paid off!<br /><br />Come visit Chemers Gallery and see Pete's beautifully vibrant watercolors before all of his friends snap them up. They're perfect to bring some of spring's new color into your home!<br /><span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-weight: bold;"><span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-weight: bold;"></span></span></span></span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-weight: bold;"><span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-weight: bold;"></span></span></span></span><br /><span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-weight: bold;"><span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-weight: bold;"></span></span></span></span></div><span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-weight: bold;"><span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-weight: bold;"><br /></span></span></span></span><span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-weight: bold;"></span></span></div></div>chemersgalleryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12320792736378025676noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8855816719451663316.post-59438292051332086692008-03-17T17:30:00.000-07:002008-03-20T15:38:29.211-07:00Art from Travels by Carol Jessen<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://bp0.blogger.com/_E-zwtXtdjEQ/R9sTUoFdKiI/AAAAAAAAAdY/0sMM9fyqR34/s1600-h/JC149.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_E-zwtXtdjEQ/R9sTUoFdKiI/AAAAAAAAAdY/0sMM9fyqR34/s200/JC149.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5177753441671129634" border="0" /></a><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-weight: bold;">"Mekong Light"<br /><span style="font-style: italic;">24 x 36"<br /></span></span></span><div style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-weight: bold;"><span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-weight: bold;"><br /></span></span></span></span><span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-weight: bold;"><span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-weight: bold;"><span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-weight: bold;"><span style="font-weight: bold;"><span style="font-style: italic;"><br /></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span><div style="text-align: left;">We've just received one of Carol Jessen's newest paintings, <span style="font-style: italic;">Mekong Light, </span><span>and we're not sure when we'll be getting more.</span> Hurry in to see it, we're sure it won't be here long. Out of the six pieces we received from her last month, we have none left! This beautiful piece was inspired by the light coming in through the window on a recent trip to Laos. "I was just walking by and thought, I have to paint that!" She's captured a beautiful moment in time, and we can't wait to see the rest of her work inspired by this trip.<br /><br />Carol stayed in the town of Luang Prabang, a world heritage site known for its many temples. She compared it to the city of Manhattan because of its proximity to water. It's unique location between two rivers gives Luang Prabang wonderfully misty mornings, something this San Francisco native is definitely familiar with. She's got plans for a series of paintings inspired by that mist.<br /><br />Carol has also started a monk series based on some of the sights she took in in Laos. Carol rose at 5:30 nearly every morning to watch the monks at the temples preforming their morning oms. She would give them rice some mornings, others she'd just observe and take photographs. We hope that some of these monk paintings make it into our upcoming exhibition of Carol's work in 2009.<br /><br />For more examples of Carol's beautiful work, visit our website at www.chemersgallery.com.<br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><div style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-weight: bold;"><span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-weight: bold;"><span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-weight: bold;"><span style="font-weight: bold;"><span style="font-style: italic;"></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span><br /></div><span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-weight: bold;"><span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-weight: bold;"><span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-weight: bold;"><span style="font-weight: bold;"><span style="font-style: italic;"></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></div></div></div>chemersgalleryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12320792736378025676noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8855816719451663316.post-74775572676983609522008-03-10T17:23:00.000-07:002008-03-10T11:42:43.332-07:00Stories from Gerald Schwartz<div style="text-align: center;"><div style="text-align: left;">"My reason for painting is in two parts. Photographs just don't do them justice. You really have to see these beautiful paintings in person to get the full impact of those flawless skies and minute details. <span style="font-style: italic;">Reflections</span> is hung in our front window and just looks incredible, especially offset with glass art by Nina Falk. "Serenity" is just the word to describe the scene, especially when the sun shines in through our windows. Gerald found the original source image so compelling that he had to paint his own interpretation of it, and we're so glad he's brought it to us!<br /></div><span style="font-style: italic;"></span><span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-weight: bold;"><span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-weight: bold;"></span></span></span></span></span><div style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-weight: bold;"></span></span><span style="font-weight: bold;"><span style="font-style: italic;"></span></span></span><br /><span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-weight: bold;"><span style="font-style: italic;"></span></span></span></div><span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-weight: bold;"><span style="font-style: italic;"></span></span></span><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://bp1.blogger.com/_E-zwtXtdjEQ/R74kUW4Y-UI/AAAAAAAAAcY/jS-V5y1qDYc/s1600-h/IMG_4871.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_E-zwtXtdjEQ/R74kUW4Y-UI/AAAAAAAAAcY/jS-V5y1qDYc/s200/IMG_4871.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5169609354425989442" border="0" /></a><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;"><span style="font-style: italic;">"Misty"<br />30 x 36"<br /></span></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /><div style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-style: italic;">Misty</span> tells a story about the landscape after a storm. The painting draws you into its tranquility. It's an incredibly evokative painting - you can almost hear the birds twittering and smell the rain-soaked grass and feel the coolness of the air. It'
