what a glorious city! chase and i had a wonderful time walking, dining, and drinking. one of our best meals was spent at bar jules, a little cafe in hayes valley. all in all the weather was perfect, the hostess was a pleasure, and now i'm tired.

despite the 80 degree weather, every boutique in LA seems to be carrying the fabulous hunter wellies this fall. however, everyone is also marking them up quite a bit. barefoot tess has them for a great price though ... i'm thinking i'll do a rain dance so that i can justify wearing them.

i've been looking for a pair of fancy party shoes for amanda's upcoming wedding ... these loeffler randall 'colette' heels are pretty perfect. they can be found at this fabulous site ... what I love about barefoot tess is that they have quite a few items (by designers like Matt Bernson) which are designed exclusively for them ... AND they have shoes in a wide range of sizes ... for those of us with slightly wide feet ... damn those tiny louboutins!

i think bike helmets are a necessity, but i don't wear one because they make you look lame. i can't decide if these helmets (from scandinavian objects) are totally sweet or sour.

really into her recently. from wikipedia: "Celia Birtwell is a textile designer. Born in Salford, Lancashire, in 1941, she studied Textile Design in Manchester, where in 1959 she met the fashion designer Ossie Clark, whom she married in 1969. Theirs was an almost perfect marriage of style, and their work together defined the era. They had two children together, Albert (born 1969) and George (born 1971), but their private relationship could not match their professional, and they divorced in 1974 due to Clark's hedonistic lifestyle and his homosexual relationships. After the break-up of her marriage Birtwell continued in fashion, designing for the Radley label for a time, until in 1984 she set up a shop on Westbourne Park Road in Bayswater selling fabrics for the home. Again she built up a reputation for innovative and witty design. She has been a muse for the painter David Hockney since 1968, and features in his 1970 painting Mr and Mrs Clark and Percy, one of Hockney's most celebrated and one of the most viewed paintings in the Tate Britain gallery on Millbank..."

i've been wanting to visit malibu market since i read about it in C magazine. here's a little description: "Earlier this year three South African transplants to LOS Angeles opened a modern bazaar that replicates the ambience of their Cape Town, Durban, and Port Elizabeth hometowns. Malibu Market & Design stocks indoor and outdoor furniture, home accessories, plants, trees, flowers, art, and books on a site just shy of two acres. A tour of the five terraced levels, carved into a hillside that juts above Pacific Coast Highway, can overwhelm. Start at the bottom in the flower shop or tiny boutique, where you can pick up Taschen books, foot-high candles encased in ebony, and credenzas rode in Madagascar from recycled aluminum...."

alice waters has been coming up a lot recently. a few days ago, as i was cleaning out a bookshelf at my parent's house, i came across "fanny at chez panisse." the beautiful illustrations, sweet reading, and easy recipes made it one of my favorites ... so i saved it from the donation pile and brought it home.
