Actually it is understandable that they cancelled school because unlike our friends to the north we get an inch of ice, not snow. School would not have been cancelled if it just snowed. We get more ice here because of the humid upper-level air from the gulf that melts the snow as hit falls and then it re-freezes and turns to ice as it hits. Its like driving on an ice rink. Also imagine the liability if you didn't cancel school and the parents sue the district because of a preventable bus wreck.

Complaining about Texas weather is like complaining about the best weather on earth. With the exception of our sweaty armpit - Houston. And the hurricanes that hit us every so often.

I love dallas weather, except in the winter, which lasts for, like, two minutes or so! God Bless Texas.

pretty wild abandonment - i'm only 27th! okay, i'm a day late, but whatever.
i remember hoping for snow days - looking for even a single snowflake to justify calling school to ask if class was cancelled.
here, my office sent an email last week with the emergency number to call in case there is so much snow that they close the building. but i don't think that's ever happened.

I can't believe they cancelled school! You should hear the kids complain here when we can't get out the door because it's blocked by snow, and they still have to go to school. Or when we wake up to let the dog out and our patio door is frozen shut. Car doors too.

B.W.H. We get ice too, so we're familiar with driving in that, although, I don't know how anyone gets used to driving in ice. Just drive really slow and brake way ahead of time!

K.T. Do you believe we do break 100 degrees in the summer occasionally? And humidity?? We have humidity. We run our air conditioners all summer long!

What is the fascination with weather? In our "neck of the woods" customers come in every day talking about the weather. I've noticed it is the topic of conversations on blogs too. I wonder what's so special about the weather??

If I ever move to Texas and have to deal with weather like that - look out!! I'll be zipping on by, cuz I know how to drive in snow! Much more than southerners in general do, not just y'all from Texas.

I got a good chuckle when I read that schools were closing because of a dusting! If only we in the northeast were so lucky.
