Hogwarts Sock Swap is ON!

I now know who my swap buddy is. This is great, this year instead of it being a secret swap you have a swap buddy who knits for you and you knit for them! We are both second years. She is a Ravenclaw and I was almost sorted into Ravenclaw. I've even gotten a few things for her kit already just have to decide on what socks to knit. And now I bet your wondering who is this mystery person, this fabulous Hogwarts buddy of mine well she is the most gracious and busy Allitrya Spelling. Pop on over and say hi!

Here are my finished pair of socks for the sock knitters pentathlon 2008. I have only one sock modeled in the picture as my other foot was currently being occupied by it's constraint of a boot from surgery. Good news though my right foot has been freed from it's prison hurah!
These socks are the Rattlesnake Creek socks by Anne Podlesak. It's a fun pattern and I really enjoyed making them. The yarn is Pagewoodfarm's Yukon Hand Dyed Bamboo Sock Yarn in the color Denim.

Little monster just had to wear my handknit socks. He put them on all by himself too! What a big boy. The only way I convinced him to take them off before bed was to let him pick out some socks from his own drawer.

Just had my first cup of coffee from the Full Circle Coffee that Perpetua Phoenix fire sent me in the swap and I must say it is fabulous! So delicious and bold but with a mild acidity. Very nice! I hadn't tried it yet because I like to finish off one bag before I sart another. MMMMMM Thank you Perpetua! You have fabulous taste in coffee. Also proceeds go to a children's charity how cool is that!

Finished Object from My Pal's Package

So my pal took a really great picture of the bag I made her for the Hogwarts Sock Kit Swap. And I stole it from her blog and here it is for your OOOing and Ahhing purposes.

This is from the Noni pattern for the Cascading fuchsias market bag from their 2007 Spring Collection. I made 2 flowers but I thought that it was a little too much wth both flowers on the bag so I sent her the second one. :) They are yellow and black to add a touch of Hufflepuff to the bag. I have one of those bags and it makes the perfect size sock project bag.

Surgery and more Surgery

Ok the Surgery on my left foot has gone well and I've been keeping my feet up the last couple days so I've been MIA. I'm hobbling around in 2 neeto boots for at least one more week maybe longer just depends on what my x rays look like next week. This will be the hardest 2 weeks of the whole things because I can't even make those short trips to Starbucks or the library until my right boot comes off. Good news is my right foot looks great and all the swelling has gone down.
I'll give a try on those quiditch questions and the hunting but boy oh boy those are some hard questions. I'll have to listen to Order of the Phoenix again!

and what was inside those tantalizing packages? Here is the money shot!

She has been reading my blog she added so many lovely things just for me! A cute knitted headband in Gryffindor colors that made my husband roll his eyes and I love making my husband roll his eyes! I had him take a picture of me wearing it but I decided that I looked too gross so I haven't put it up maybe later after I put on makeup on or something. Organic coffee now how perfect is that, mmmm coffee!! Lipgloss because well I just can't enough of it! A tape measure, my house elf officially broke mine not even 2 weeks ago and while I was taking this picture he tried to steel it! It's covered in fabric and ric rack did you do that yourself Perpetua? Some crazy beautiful and smooshy yarn from Crazy for Dyeing in Gryffindor colors! Really lovely I can't wait. An amazing pattern I've had in my Ravelry queue for a while called La Digitessa and boy oh boy I can't wait I think it will look really lovely with the gryff yarn! Some knitting essentials, a teeny tiny crochet hook for dropped stitches, I imagine I will need that with the la digitessa pattern with all those cables! Yay! A 42 inch Harmony wood size 1.5 circular needle! yay! I love those harmony needles and I didn't have one in that size. My favorite size! I think I'm wearing the coating off my other ones... so sad. And now close ups of my personal favorites knitting BLING!

Row counting bracelet and stitch markers in yummy Gryffy colors! I can't express how much I absolutely love row counter bracelets I have one and I've been itching to buy another. I've actually been looking at the ones from Crimson Orchid and that is where she bought mine. It's yummy and I'm already using it! And I love stitch markers and there ones are from Crazy for Dyeing and match the Gryffindor yarn! How cool is that.
The cutest part of the package is Lightning my new owl!

And the most practical of the entire package is the Chocolate Emergency kit in case o Dementor attacks and for some reason there have been a lot of Dementor attacks lately!

There have actually been so many Dementor attacks that I may need to restock my emergency kit soon. ;)
One thing that did not make the pictures except in it's wrapped condition was the bag of Muggle Cheetoes she sent me. They are my favorite! But they are also my house elf's favorite and every time I tried to take a picture he was grabbing at them so he was happily munching away on them as I finished up my photography. But he shared with me when I was done. ;)

Oh my!

It's almost done! My package for my pal! I just had to wait for a ride to the fabric store from my hubby as my right foot is currently incapacitated. I can drive with my left foot but I'm not confident enough to drive further than Starbucks or target. My right leg starts to cramp up from being tucked underneath my left foot. Anyway think about trying to drive your car left footed while your entire right leg is almost 3 times the normal size (in a boot thingy) and it's as hard as a rock.
I've been notified by my upstream pal that her owl has been sent so I'm eagerly awaiting with owl treats on hand. It's a balmy 100 + degree day outside so I'll make sure I don't send her home until after dark and keep her cool under the ceiling fan and air conditioner until then.
Fortunately for my downstream pal the delay in getting what I needed to finish her bag has resulted in quite a bit of extra time for me to pick up extras here and there and add them to the kit. Oh my I may need 2 owls to carry it to her! I've had tones of fun with this term and I can't wait to come back to Hogwarts next year. Though there is still some time left in this year I can feel the end coming and the encroaching return to muggledom!
I've finished a couple pairs of socks in the mean time and I'm finishing up a little pair of shoes for my niece and starting work on 2 dresses for my nieces. Since they are 6 years apart in age my sister can't find any matching little clothes for them and Auntie is getting a kick out of making them little dresses. Well my 6 year old niece isn't so little but she will still look very cute! And if I have enough fabric left I may try and make some of those little cloth shoes for the baby. We shall see. My knitting projects are uncharacteristically half done! I have about 4 or 5 half finished or barely started things right now. A little bit of startiitis I think. You shall see pictures of my package from my pal soon if the Owl delivery notification system is correct. :) I'm so excited! Off to eat some crapy frozen dinner for lunch as all this sitting on my butt has caused me to get fat.

6. What is your beverage of choice? Coffee, tea, latte, soda/pop?
Coffee OMG they know me at my nearest Starbucks. I make excuses to run errands so I have an excuse to go to starbucks and the days I don't go there I have an espresso maker, and a drip coffee maker so I can change it up depending on my mood. So yes coffee is my favorite caffeine delivery system. Lets see right now I order most often an iced triple grande soy white mocha no whip cream. At home it's about 4 shots of espresso with sugar and soymilk on ice.

7. Favorite muggle music?
I can't seam to leave my grungy high school roots. I still swoon over Eddie Vedder and listen to Pearl Jam on a daily basis. I find Pantera relaxing. No seriously all the way to the surgery center before my foot surgery I listened to Pantera and it calmed me down. Yup I'm a weirdo.

8. How many family members do you have?
Well I'm the oldest of 3 girls. And I am currently the mother of 2 young boys. All of my family still live here in Vegas so there are 2 nieces and a nephew in there too. My sisters are my best friends.

9. What do you do on your summer vacation? What is your Favorite vacation ever taken?
Well our family tradition is to spend time at The Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri but this year with my feet and other life type stuff we aren't going to be going. My favorite vacation ever was last summer when me and my husband took the baby on a road trip up and down the pacific coast highway spending most of our time in Oregon and Northern California. I love the Coast up there it's like being on a different planet, even the sun shines a different color then in the desert. We also went to Sequoia national forest on that trip and saw General Sherman the biggest tree in the world, except the new one they found but they won't tell anyone where it is so it doesn't count.

10. What is your favorite subject at Hogwarts? Why?
Defense against the dark arts because I get to use really cool spells and blow things up and play with boggarts and cornish pixies.

11. How many pairs of shoes (footwear) do you have? Which are your favorite pair?
I'm not sure how many pairs I have I buy shoes that I know hurt my feet and try to wear them and when my surgery is all over I'll finaly get to wear them but I always fall back to wearing my navy blue Crocs. What can I say they are comfortable.

12. How many projects do you have OTN (on the needles)?
Well right now OTN as in out of the swatch stage I only have one, a pair of socks. There is always at least a pair of socks going and then whatever elese I'm working on but I've finished what I am knitting for my spoilee so I need to find something else because I'm on the toe decreases of these socks too. :)

13. What is the oldest project you're working on and when did you cast it on?
Oh I'm not that kind of knitter I don't have piles of UFOs I'm a frogg it or finish it kind of gal.

14. Favorite food(s)?
Ice Cream, Pasta, Sandwiches (good ones on crusty bread and plenty of cheese), Salt and Vinegar chips, more Pasta, and anything with avocado in on or around it.

yes that is right we lived in our Element. :) It is really quite comfortable to sleep in. At least more so than the bed at the hotel we stopped at in Reno. :) This is a picture from our first camping sight in the Great Redwood forest of northern California.

So as some may know I had surgery done on my foot on tuesday and well I finished my Pomatomus socks from Knitty. So what is more fun than pictures of socks and surgery.

Here is the finished sock (there are 2 do not worry) next to the lovely and fashionable "boot" I get to wear for the next 6 weeks.

So I was wondering when I would get tagged to do this meme. It's been circulating around Hogwarts. So with no further ado

1. What was I doing 10 years ago?
Well since it is summer of 08 then I guess the summer of 98 I had just finished my first year of college and I think I was unemployed? Or working at the Ice Cream and Smoothie place that is now closed.

2. What are 5 things on my to-do list today?
Well I have finished most of them. One was to return books to library. Then I went to my lys Gail Knits and bought some yarn to finish the project for my pal and add to my Gryffindor colored yarn stash. Just one more ball of that golden colored Comfort just in case. Then I went over to the Barnes and Noble I had planned to have the WWKIP day meeting at but no one showed up until 6 I was there at 5 and by the time anyone started arriving the little monster was screaming "BYE" over and over again and trying to get loose so I left and I hope everyone had or is having lots of fun right now. Next and last 2 things that I HAVE to do today is as much laundry as humanly possible and some dishes.

3. Snacks I enjoy
Ice Cream is my top favorite, followed by a really good chocolate. For salty the top players are salt and vinegar kettle potato chips, and next up is crunchy Cheetos. (Cheetos were the first thing I ever bought with my own money. I Got 5 cents a week to set the table and I saved up and bought cheetos.)

4. Things I would do if I were a billionaire
Travel the world, start a yarn store, and buy my husband a bar on the Lake of the Ozarks because it's always been a dream of his to own a bar out there.

5. Places I've lived
Henderson, NV North Las Vegas, NV and Las Vegas, NV yeah that is right I've lived in the same valley my entire life. They are technically different cities but they run together so it's pretty much the same except Henderson has a better Parks and Rec.

6. Jobs I've had
Chronologically from present to first job Mommy, Model Home Cleaner, Fabric Store Assistant Manager, Fabric Store lackey, Model Home Cleaner, Receptionist, OfficeMax cashier, Copymax attendant, OfficeMax Cashier, Smoothie maker, Coffee Shop Barrista, Fatburger Drive Through, Day Care worker at my high school, Babysitter, and Day care worker at church. I think I have it right.

I'm in Trouble Now... Or am I?

So... I decided to do a little organizing the other day. Gathered up all the random bags of yarn from around the downstairs and put them all in the closet along with some fabric and what not. I rearranged some photos did some dusting, took all my husbands random papers and shoved them in a desk drawer and put away all the UFOs laying around. Yes I have lost my knitting monogamy but that is another story. So when my husband came home he noticed the lovely (deceptively) organized state of the house and decided to do a little extra cleaning of his own. We went upstairs and he was taking his clothes into the closet! Uh oh! I was desperately trying to tell him I'd put his clothes away. But he walked into the closet and I hear "Oh my God how much yarn do you have!" Now you have to understand I didn't put all that much more on the piles just a couple grocery bags full but my husband doesn't go in the closet much. It's true he has more clothes hanging in there than I do but he doesn't wear any of them. He has a uniform for work and then he comes home and he has about 4 favorite outfits and pjs so that is what he wears and I just keep that stuff washed and in easy reach for him.

He comes out with his clothes still in his hands puts them down on the chair looks at me and says "If you have all that yarn how come you haven't made me a sweater?" Priceless.
I reply "Well if you want a pair of socks I'm all set to make you some if you don't mind blues and pinks otherwise I'll have to buy more yarn. Besides your so picky about what you wear you would never wear it because it won't be exactly the way you want it."
Hubby proceeds to tell me it wouldn't be that hard to make a sweater with the exact collar he wants with sleeve cuffs exactly the right length that aren't too tight and blah blah blah.
I tell him I've never made a sweater before so I doubted it would be so specific and he tells me that I should start practicing.

Now to me that sounded like a free license to now go and buy not hats and felted bags worth of yarn but whole sweaters worth of yarn at a time. What do you think did he just give me a get out of jail free card on future purchases of yarn. as long as they are enough to make a sweater?

I know I know I am supposed to let my spoiler spoil me but I've been bad...

BUT! This is not for me it's for my son. I will be making him a scarf and hat to wear to HBP. PoA style if I can't find out what the new pattern design will be... Darn do you think I should go back and buy another gold? or 2? Maybe more red? Oh crap now I have buyers remorse remorse I'm second and triple thinking my purchases!

Well it's the last day of May and at my LYS they have a birthday discount and so well I went just to buy some white dk yarn to make my neice some shoes and then I saw these colors and almost fell over, not from shock but because little monster was in the sling and he was trying to do back flips out of it. Anyway so I grabbed up the yarn for the big monster. Since the big monster is away on vacation I've been buying him little toys and clothes and I've got a little care package stash going for him. So since he in on my mind I thought a nice relaxing knit in the round scarf and hat would be lovely to work on for him. I do have until November to finish them but I want to wait until the trailer for HBP comes out so I can see the scarves. He even wants a tie and I have a pattern to sew one but good luck finding the right fabric, a new potter color obsession right?

A Misserable Cold and a Wonderful Man

I wanted everyone to know something about my fabulous husband. Well maybe a few things about my wonderful hubby. I've been a little sick, my nose was running non stop all day Thursday and I'm normally the type of person who buys the earth friendly everything, toilet paper, tissue, organic milk, probiotics, flax seed in everything. Homeopathic medication I'm just a little crunchy that is all. But after rubbing my nose with the horrible recylced cardboard tissue paper all day long my nose hurt sooo bad so my wonderful husband went to the store in the middle of the night just to buy me some of those really nice soft tissues with lotions and potions in them. When my nose hurts those make it feel a lot better. He even bought 2 different kinds one with aloe the other with Vicks! Vicks! OMG I love these tissues with Vicks. Normally I would skip Vicks and buy a eucalyptus balm or something but Oh it's nice to baby yourself when you feel like crap. My nose feels alot better and I've had the humidifier going so yes I feel better now. He also got my my favorite ice cream Sticky Toffee Pudding from Hagen Daz and he got me 7up. Every time I was sick that is what I always wanted as a kid 7up and it still makes me feel better. I even got a neck rub out of it and a whole bunch of sympathy. I'm so glad I married him he's the perfect man for me. And now a super sweet picture.

PS my mom loved her socks! Yay! These socks were made with All Things Heather in the color Royal. The yarn is super soft and even softer after washed. I will have to buy some for myself. The pattern is called Berlin Muster by Kristin Benecken and it was the pattern for the second round of Sock Knitters Pentathlon 2008.
