Low-level, mind you. And that was way back when Wrath had just been released. Then I took a 6-month break. No instances since.

So we've started playing again, I've begun doing dailies on Wulfa and I'm starting to level up Beowulfa, my shadow priest. And today I was thinking I should go ahead and buy flying for Beo. So I switch on over to Wulfa. And in guild chat there had been talk of doing a heroic. I hadn't been paying attention because for so long I hadn't been able to participate. But switching over to Wulfa garnered me an invite and I thought, why not? Damm has been telling me I should do a few groups.

So I'm trying to get Damm's damn new headset plugged into Vent (I hadn't really used it before and it has lots of wires) and trying to figure out where the little green button is and trying to type in party chat that I know absolutely nothing about the instance we're about to do so please tell me what to do. And then we start.

I quickly find out that I need a macro for targeting the target of the tank because no-one, according to Damm, marks targets anymore. They (the things we have to kill) all seem to be pretty easy though so I can see why. I also found out that keeping Thunderclap and Growl on is a definite no-no. I did have my pet on passive. And I only shot at what the tank was hitting on. I didn't cause any wipes. I was completely exhausted at the end of the instance.

I have no idea what heroic I did.

I will never sit on the floor and play because that is the most uncomfy position ever but the kids were asleep so I didn't dare move.

I really need to do another instance just to prove to myself that I still have "it".

And next time I'll pay attention to which instance I volunteered for.

Whew.

Coming up with new titles for the same old rants is getting difficult.

I have whined a bunch in guild chat about two subjects.

1) Life as a new healer.

2) How much I hate all my attempts at dpsing.

The first subject is a quick fix. I LOVE healing and even like it in parties that are horrible...(I just hate the bit where we all stand around yelling at eachother). I whine too much because I like talking on green channel and don't have anything interesting to say. The solution to this is to whine less I guess. Certainly having more patience will mean I get more badges which is the only reason I queue. Well besides my self love of healing good groups. I'm slowly learning to let dps learn not to pull agro on mobs the tank isn't tanking by letting them die. Good dps in my experiance rarely get hurt(by which I mean pull agro and learn that they can't tank things). I don't mean that DPS don't get hit with AOE's or the stupid poison or the occasional boss sucking on your blood etc. I'm purely talking about getting hurt on trash mobs because you don't know how to /assist or pay attention to markings. OH and I found out that the healer(me) was a retard who was using spells 2 ranks below cap and kept running out of mana forthwith.

The second issue: My suckatude at dps. I've only tried it twice... once as a catdruid and once as a boomkin. The boomkin was marginally better but I still felt like I was utterly wasted as a DPS... I'm downloading recount so I can have numbers to prove me right but I -FEEL- like I'm doing at MOST 200 dps.. not 2k... 200. I -FEEL- like my best use is to spam cast innervate on SOMEONE even that rogue.. surely he needs more mana. *Sigh*. I don't know .

Getting recount will help a bit as I'll have a baseline to figure out if it really is true... but I doubt that somehow I'm rocking huge dps without knowing it.... hahahahahahahah. Yeah right.

There is a whole set of posts based on this feeling versus reality.

People who FEEL like they are God's gift to the raid.... and stand in the fire.
People who FEEL like no one appreciates them.... and are the healer/tank from heaven that everyone considers the CORE part of the guild.

I could go on and on. I would love to read a bunch of other bloggers thoughts on the biggest 'feeling vs facts' in their life.

=================================================================
Wulfa is leveling up her priesty... she has plans to go holy I think. But she is demanding that I finish off her jousting for her so she can continue the Argent tourney.

Been having Elihu(brother 3) tank on his DK for me while I heal Moon in an attempt to get Moon up to 80. Ever since I figured out that I was downranking stupidly I've been enjoying that.

Stuff.

I can't believe the stuff people watch sheesh. People act like Lost was a good show and everyone seems to watch this 24 show but it never looked all that interesting. Sigh. Why can't everyone just watch Stargate and Burn Notice and NCIS like I do. These people are probably the same ones that killed Firefly before it had a chance to be the BEST SHOW EVER. And their kids probably suck.*

Little hangups:
1) People coming into my room. This room? yeah its my room. The door is a big sign that maybe you shouldn't come in. Only Wulfa and Orclette and Miniorc have free passes. Everyone else... knock.
2) People watching me play silently waiting for a moment to talk to me. I'm really in my own world here. I might possibly be extremely frustrated by the stupid jousting thing in Icecrown and how the dumb retarded idiotic champion keeps getting further and further away from the circle until ding he quits and says I suck because I didn't wait in the circle for him to stupid charge me. And maybe I might yell at you for standing there silently JUDGING ME while I fail at this for a 3rd time.
3) That Argent turney guy. I hate him. He sucks.

Myself, Moon and our third usually unmentioned brother(the one older than ish but younger than me and moon) partied last night. And I suddenly found myself in this situation:

Me: level 80 druid healer
Moon: level 74? hunter dps thing. dunno.
KH(my brother we're talking about): level 75 druid tank
Two random dps.

A level 74 or lower random dungeon.

And the two random dps KEPT getting hurt. And dying. No poison... just beating on. I tried my best to keep them alive. But they kept dying.

This was something new to me.... I have not to this point run across dps who took damage. Even melee dps. Generally only the tank takes damage... right?

Thoughts filter through my head about this vaguely while I try and keep the green bars green.

Then someone asks for recount. And it gets posted..... and the top dps? Moon.... who hasn't been getting hurt. Or dying... or needing my attention at all. So it can't be that the tank isn't able to hold hate.

*Sigh* Recount also shows that a great deal of their damage taken isn't AOE or environmental(don't stand in the fire). No a great deal of their damage is melee.. from trash mobs.

Why?**

And thats it for todays post.

*I figured that because I am sometimes not a fully effective communicator I should let someone know that this is possibly me being silly because of something I read recently.

** I have a good idea of why.

On play time.

We are gearing up for the school semester. A semester that will see Wulfa waking up at 4am every day and me at 5am. A semester where the weekdays have been planned in advance down to the half hour.

So our playtime is going to be very limited. Wulfa hasn't seen more than two instances in Wrath. I've seen 5 now thanks to a 2hour playtime on Saturday. We are going to try and juggle the whole school and game thing but when it comes down to it we've already committed to RL and the game will go away.

Fortunately we are in a guild that understands this and won't mind if we go away for a while.

Anyways just wanted to give everyone a heads up in advance.

In other news I'm boomkin specced so that I can dps for my guildies on times when one of our other healers is already healing for the evenings heroics run. Which is yay. Turns out that I hate melee dps because I'm always chasing mobs and it makes me cry. :(

But if someone could glance at my boomkin spec over there ----> I would appreciate it. I also need a decent spell rotation to get me by the first few fights. I'm doing my own research as well but always love it when people can give me helpful advice(like Bar with his lovely keep Savage roar and mangle up and then shred 5 times and rip).

And thats it for a Tuesday post.

Electricity.

Technical Specification

Description
This quote is for the turnkey installation of a grid-tied 9.5 kw photovoltaic power system utilizing an array of 54 175 watt PV modules. I -love- the idea of generating my own power and being fully self supporting. I love it bad. I shake with happy thoughts when I read about wind generators or home made steam engines or solar power etc.

So being in a state where we get SUN LIGHT ALL THE FREAKIN TIME LITERALLY EVEN AT NIGHT I SWEAR. I thought it would be amazing to use my army bonus to buy an array for my parents house. Right? Okay? See how this would be one) awesome because of my love for the stuff and two) awesome because then I would have set my parents up with free electricity for the life of their house and doubled their house value*.

And what happens? I call and ask for an estimate of a professional installing one... and he tells me the above.

$36k

$36k

Thats like a million as far as I am able to even remotely pay for it.**

I want to cry.

Except orcs don't. Army guys don't. And seriously... crying because you can't get ... your ...own... solar pan-(sniffle)...nel ... of (sniffle) your very....(full fledged water works)... Just incase you didn't know to start.

Which means it is dealing with a lot of much more emotional issues than mine and wulfa's usual shootemup style fare.

As an example:
There is violence and animals die in PLENTY of African safari movies and no one cries because well you aren't attached and they aren't killing babies.

And then there is bambi and old yeller and people get teary eyed.

The point is that some violence is more than others. D9 is full of the stupid kind... people abusing other sentients because they have no representation and no way of really defending themselves. It intentionally echoes the South African story of District 6 back in the 60's(I know very little about this episode other than wikipedia would be interesting research for someone somewhere). There are scenes of people* being shot, of kids* being threatened, and of babies* being aborted. We just had a baby and some of us(her) are WAY WAY WAY unable to do harm to kids in our fiction at the moment. Also if you care about such things... there is a bit of language(the main character loses his grasp on english as soon as anything goes bad and all you hear is F--- this and F------ that.

*I mean aliens.... aka "prawns".

And I guess for us who wanted to watch a ... terminator or an independance day and instead found ourselves watching a sci-fi version of ... I don't know... Hotel Rwanda?... Schindlers List? bah those are serious movies please forgive the comparison but I DON'T watch emotionally charged movies and there was too much of that in this movie.

Yeah so we stopped halfway and then wiki'd the ending. If it had just been me I would have stuck it out. It is possible that the later bits make up for the first bits who knows(we had 40 min left in the moview when we stopped... so we watched about an hour and 10 min of it.

I had several friends at AIT tell me they liked it, and it is very very possible that if my life stress meter was a little lower and I was a little more zen I would enjoy the movie.... instead it was simply too much.

"Gasp!" My dad was right.

My parents know some things.

Have you ever had that revelation? I never claimed that they didn't know anything or didn't know me (though I think there may have been a period where I could have honestly said that ... anyway). But wow, they're right!

Specifically my dad was spot on about checking out movies before you see them. He's always been strict about what we could or could not watch, something I appreciate now that I have an impressionable 2 1/2 year old. And though he couldn't tell us not to see a particular movie once we children hit the venerable age of 18, he still advised us to research the movie to find out what's in it, i.e. language, nude scenes, violence, etc.

I haven't been doing that.

And the last two movies Damm and I have seen have upset one or both of us (in case you were wondering, Avatar and District 9.). There's just not enough time for me to watch something that doesn't add positives to my/our life. I don't need to see horrifying or scary things. I might make an exception for a movie such as Schindler's List ... but by the same reasoning I should have made an exception for District 9 ... sigh.

After stopping our movie midway last night I made the decision that we're not watching any new movie without researching it first. Took me 25 years to find out what my dad already knew.

Druid Healer.

I have officially graduated into the realm of a 'real for real serious really' healer. I healed Heroic Violet Hold, Heroic Utgarde Keep, and Heroic Gundrak last night. All two of three were my first time healing that dungeon(Gundrak and VH). UK I had runsuccessfully 3 times on normal back last year before I took my break... roughly a year ago.

I lost DPS 3 times. Once the warlock wouldn't stop standing in the purple goo. There was a third time that I don't remember. And then in Gundrak my buddies decided to get whirlwinded right when I got impaled. Sux2bu kthnx.

But all three runs I was thanked profusely for my healing. I know I overhealed a lot and I need to fix my gear(I even have an empty glyph slot). But I used nourish for the first time and liked what I saw(so fast). And on that fight with the whilrwind I kept the tank alive with even while tapping mana after every rejuv. These aren't me bragging about skills but about the fun last night, they thanked me despite dying, they were cheerful and I got to use fun toys and had several close calls.

Eulogy for a Dog.

We adopted him in 1995. We don't know precisely when he was born but we, or perhaps it was me? decided that May 15 would be a great birthday for him. My mom named him Shelby, after Shelby Foote the historian, in an effort to persuade my dad to like the dog. I don't think that worked as well as my mother would have liked, but my dad was always polite to the dog and was solicitous during Shelby's last years as he grew feeble.

Shelby was supposed to be an outdoor dog, but he soon was fighting for his life against Parvo. He spent hours cuddled up on my mom's lap as she rocked him like a baby. My mom liked to joke that our $30 pound dog was now a $500 one. And that was the end of Shelby's being an outdoor dog.

He was a Britney Spaniel/Walker Hound mix. Little kids often thought he was a Dalmation because of his black and white coloring with dots up and down his legs. He had a great howl and loved to track things. He especially liked squirrels; back when we lived in Virginia we would check for squirrels before letting him out because he would run himself silly trying to catch them. He even learned how to spell squirrel: everytime we would spell it he would run to the back door and try to get out. His spelling abilities weren't just limited to that word. He also knew how to spell walk, kibble, and rabbit.

He was incredibly well-behaved. He would let visitors pet him but wouldn't try to sit in their lap. He would sit, lay down, and roll over upon command. And the ultimate test: putting a doggie treat between his paws and telling him to ignore it. He was superb-he would stare straight ahead until you gave him permission to eat it. He was trained to heel and was fun to take on walks and runs. Once when we were out walking a little Chihuahua was wandering about loose and decided to attack Shelby. He was running around yip-yapping at Shelby's heels and Shelby merely looked at us with a puzzled expression as if to ask, "What in the blazes is that?"

When we made the 3-day drive to move down to Texas in 2001 Shelby was not exactly pleased. The first day he was greatly relieved to walk into our hotel room at the end of the day. The next day when we showed signs of getting ready to leave he decided to sulk and would not look at us or interact with us all day. The third day my mom decided it would be best to dope the dog and so that third day was a bit easier on all of us. I think Shelby enjoyed Texas. He had a bigger backyard and more local wildlife to chase after. Although sometimes the prey had already fried itself on the electrical wires and caused part of the neighborhood to lose power. Toasted squirrel, anyone?

I wasn't there for Shelby's last years but my mom was a superb caretaker, the best momma any dog could ask for. She switched Shelby to a raw food diet and took the time and effort to make sure he was the healthiest dog on the block. She continued taking him on walks even when his progress was painfully slow. She cleaned up after him when he couldn't make it outside without complaint. Both my mom, dad, and brothers adapted to new forms of communication when Shelby lost his hearing. And God gave my mom a Christmas gift when he gave Shelby a brief reprieve from some of the problems he had been having over the Christmas holidays. She, and all of us, got the chance to enjoy Shelby's company for just a bit longer. He got to see all of his family one last time and even got to know the newest member Brenden.

He was unable to get out of bed the morning of December 31st. My mom and my brother took him to the vet that day so he wouldn't have to suffer anymore. They gave my mom his paw print and he is buried under the trees in our front yard.

He was a great dog, and he had a great life.

Goodbye, Shelby. It was wonderful knowing you these past 14 years. I'm looking forward to seeing you again when we get to heaven. Left Waco, TX at 2:30 a.m. yesterday and drove into LC at 2:30 p.m. So 13 hour drive. I cannot comment at all about our homecoming because I am being positive, not negative, and if there's nothing nice to say don't say anything at all.

Highlights of our trip:

1. (I'm numbering because I like to be tidy) The Orclette, after watching LOTR with my brothers (my mom covered her eyes at the appropriate moments), picked up her new toy spatula and told us that she was going to fight the bad guys with her stick. How cute is that?
2. The Miniorc smiled his awesome cute smile at everyone and let grandparents and friends hold him (the Orclette at his age decided that only momma and daddy were worthy to hold her awesomeness).
3. Damm forgot his beret and had to buy a new suit for his brother's wedding. 50% off at Sears. And he looks smashing. I need to see about posting a picture of that ...
4. I got Kat Von D. makeup at Sephora. I LOVES IT LOVES IT LOVES IT. Why doesn't LC have a Sephora? I'm currently in mourning because I had to leave the one in Houston.
5. The Orclette walking down the aisle as flower girl in brother's wedding. She did everything she was supposed to except for throwing the flowers. But she made up for that by throwing them on the ground as the bride and groom were pronouncing their vows, chattering away to herself. In front of everyone. (I don't think the lovebirds noticed.)
6. The groom's cake. I believe the bride made both cakes. I'm so glad she's my sister now. She's doing all my cakes from here on out. It was chocolatey with espresso beans. Just wow. That's why we're alive. To eat stuff like that.
7. 7th season of the Gilmore Girls. I now own the complete set.
8. It's over. Traveling with two kids is exhausting.

Big sigh. Christmas is once again over, school is about to start, life is about to become extremely regimented. No resolutions because there will be no time. But that's the way I prefer to roll.

2010. Orclette will turn 3 and is starting preschool. The Miniorc will turn 1 and will start walking and talking at some point this year. I will turn 26 and it's the first birthday that feels like I'm actually getting older. Not old, but beginning that aging process. It's weird. Damm will be officially joing ROTC, turning 29, and becoming a smartypants (his major is Double E. Electrical Engineering). It will be a better year than the last one because there will be no 6-month training absences or the birthing of a child (child good labor bad).

So there you are. The Orcs (although we only play Elves now) are back and ready to rock.

As pie said:

A picture of me in my new gear:

And Ruune isn't going to believe this.

I don't want to grow up.

Isn't that what Peter Pan said? Seriously.

You know how lots of people gain poundage over the holidays because of all the yummy goodies that are circulated at this time of year?

I have never been one of them. I have self-control. I eat the yummy desserts on Thanksgiving and Christmas. That's it.

Except this year. My parents and brothers are all trying to get me fat. Which is sad because there was potential for weight-loss: One of the fun things I do with my parents is go along to their YMCA (my mom teaches yoga, is a lifeguard and triathlete coach, my dad is also a triathlete coach) and workout with them. So I've done yoga, Spinning classes, and of course running. Had to try out my spiffy new red shoes with the awesome pink socks. They (the socks) cost $14. For one pair. Worth it though.

Anyway. My brother Alden and I went to see a movie last week and he, out of the kindness of his heart, bought me a pint of eggnog and smuggled it into the theater. I could not refuse, he had bought it without asking and of his own initiative, but I did ask if I could wait until Christmas Day because I can eat whatever I want on that day. He was fine with that. Until we noticed the expiration date a few days later. I had to drink the eggnog.

Then my brother Justin just had to be born on the 22nd (23 years ago:) And in my family the tradition is that the birthday person gets to pick whatever restaurant he/she would like to go to and there we go. He wanted Red Robin's. And they have really, really good burgers. And everyone else was ordering burgers. It would have looked odd for me to order a salad. So I had a juicy bacon cheeseburger. And their steak fries? You MUST try their steak fries. So, so very good.
And we had Carrot Cake afterwards.

And today is my dad's birthday. And there is Carrot Cake left over. Fortunately that is not a favorite of mine so I can resist. But .... all of my mom's relatives like to send cookies/candy. I'm not talking your chocolate chip cookie ... I'm talking gourmet stuff. You feel like you have to eat it because it's so darn beautiful. And my mom is baking pecan pie (I'm a Virginian gal. I like pecan pie) and lemon meringue stuff.

And of course Christmas Eve and Christmas Day are looming.

/cry.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://twoandahalforcs.blogspot.com/2009/12/its-on-purpose-seriously.html' title='It's on Purpose. And I needed PBJ. So in light of recent discussions I felt I should report on the experience.

It was horrible.

The knife repeatedly failed to get the right amount of jelly. No curved spoon to spread it just right... instead a silly flat surface that did -nothing- for me.

Fortunately PBJ is such a great food that it overcame these huge glaring problems and I had a respectible sandwich. I think about 4-5k worth. I -know- I gained about 700k xp off of two dailies and then battlegrounds. I ran AV and AB over and over for about 4 hours.

And I healed my everliving heart-out.

I'm no longer feeling invincible... enough rogues and mages ate me up to dispell that feeling...but I -am- feeling awesome. I was complemented several times and happily lead healing in every BG where I was there from the start.

The last one is always the most memorable but this one more so then some.

Picture this:

AV score 250 to 250 or so. Alliance charges drek. Gets him to about 40% and then the tank drops... a wipe... except? Every single one spawns ... at Dun Blargrhrjmmdjklj way the heck up north. Yeah.... The furthest graveyard from drek...and 30 alliance players find themselves there.... zero near drek.

So we say screw it and just mass out and meet them on the road. And for 40 min or so it seemed slug it out. We win on points...after we get 250 points 1 kill at a time. I had about 840k healed at the end maybe more. There were two other healers in that fight with me(that had a noticable impact). A druid and a priest... they had about the same healed(700k and 500k?).

Yeah I healed a bunch tonight. Sometimes solo...sometimes with buddies....sometimes 40 people at once...others just the one. And never felt better about grinding xp. This is way more fun than questing. You just get gear at about 1/80th the rate.

His chubbyness in all his pre-lunch-with-friend glory

The Orclette in an outfit her mother once wore. Love the tree. Love 3 hordies(hunter, rogue, warlock) trying to kill me for 5 min while I sat and healed through their dps. Just them...and me.... and my treeness.

Walked away with a 1/0 WG win. Yay for us healers(there were 3-5 of us) and our indomitable healyness.

Oh and I rocked the charts with double the healing of anyone else. Those first 5 min may have helped I think. Innervated twice. Happy days.

Anyways... I hate the fact that the LFG tool won't let me create a party with level 80's and join the random dungeon. Any time we've tried we've ended up just sitting and being told over and over that one or more members do not match the requirements for the dungeon.

And yes we are NOT on heroic. Ended up doing Occulus by me being leader and selecting it(not random) and ToC by walking to the instance and jumping in.

Newest newsies.

I got to heal a regular ToC.
