Kaua'i Trip: President's Day Weekend

We are planning a 3 day, 2 night dojo trip to Salibi Sensei's Dojo on Kaua'i during President's Day Weekend (February 16th - 18th).

Provisional cost including flights, ground transport on Kaua'i, accomodation, and training are as follows:

Dormitory style accomodations
(shared bathroom & showers): $180

4 Person cabin: $190

2 Person cabin: $210

Single cabin: $260

Please let Roberts Sensei know as soon as possible if you would like to come. Payment is needed to secure your place.

PLEASE NOTE: Any MINORS (under 18 yrs old) MUST be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

New Years Training with Shihan

Ossu Everyone!

We will be having a tremendous opportunity to train with Shihan Minakami for 5 days! What a way to bring in the new year!

The New Years Training with run from Wednesday, January 2, 2008 to Sunday, January 6, 2008.

Wednesday, January 2 - 4:30pm - 7:00pm at KCC
Thursday, January 3 - 4:30pm - 7:00pm at KCC
Friday, January 4 - 4:30pm - 7:00pm at KCC
Saturday, January 5 - 9:00am - 12:00pm at UHM
Sunday, January 6 - 9:00am - 12:00pm at UHM

The fee is $150 for 5 days training!

If you cannot make all 5 days, don't worry. Make as many as possible - the fees for each day is as follows:

For 1 day of training: $40
For 2 days of training: $75
For 3 days of training: $105
For 4 days of training: $130
For 5 days of training: $150

This training is for all levels, so please don't be discouraged.

Sunday, September 30th Diamond Head Hike

Ossu Everyone!

There are no dojo classes at UH this Sunday 30th September. We have made alternative arrangements for a dojo hike at Diamond Head Crater as follows:

1. Meeting time: 1:30pm

2. Place: KCC/dojo parking lot

3. Wear: sunscreen, athletic shoes and socks, comfortable hiking clothes

4. Bring: small backpack, flashlight

Ossu! This hike takes the place of our regular Sunday dojo class. Participants will be recorded as this counts toward monthly classes. The dojo will pay the entrance fee for all students and parents that will be attending. Beverages will be provided, every student will be responsible for carrying beverages both to drink along the way, and to have at the top (4. Small backpack).

Parking in Diamond Head is limited. We will carpool and shuttle from the KCC/dojo parking lot. We will not begin the hike until we have all gathered inside the crater (time wise we need to begin by 2pm). From that point we will assign small groups of 3-5 that will stay together at all times.

Proper and considerate behavior is mandatory. Stay in your groups. The trail is well used and may be crowded. Diamond head is a fragile resource – stay on the trails at all times.

Let’s have fun, look out for each other, and make this another great Minakami karate outing!

Kauai Trip: October 27th-28th

We are planning a visit to the Kauai dojo on the weekend October 27th and 28th. The basic plan will be to fly from Honolulu on Saturday morning. We will spend Saturday at some of the beautiful remote beaches on the south shore such as Maha'ulepu Beach (http://www.kauai-hawaii.com/destinations.php?44). Saturday night, we will stay at Kahili Mountain Park (http://www.kahilipark.org/), which offers inexpensive dormitory accommodation or more private cabins and cabinettes. We will practice at the dojo in Lihue on Sunday from 10am to 12 noon. On Sunday afternoon we will be based down at Kalapaki beach where Kamal Salibi Sempai, the instructor of the Kauai dojo, runs the surf shop. We can use beach toys such as surf boards, boogie boards, etc. Weather permitting, Salibi Sempai will take groups out on his beautiful 42' trimaran, the Rainbow Runner. We will fly back to Honolulu around 8pm.

The cost will vary depending on the deal we can get on flights. I estimate the inclusive cost for flights, ground transport in kauai, accommodation, training, and use of beach toys, and (weather permitting) boat ride will be:

For dormitory style accomodation - between $120 - $150 per person
For cabin accommodation with 2 people sharing a cabin - between $150 - $180 per person
For solo accommodation in a cabin - between $190 - $220 per person

In addition, you will need to budget for your food. Please let me know if you would like to take part in this trip. It will be a lot of fun.

Farewell to Aaron Oshita

Ossu Everyone!

Sempai Aaron Oshita will be leaving for California next week. We really appreciate him volunteering his time and effort to be apart of the Minakami Dojo family.

As a farewell party, we will be having a potluck this Saturday, September 8th at Krazy Karaoke @ 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm.

Krazy Karaoke is located on Young Street between Piikoi and Keeaumoku (behind S King St. Zippy and Times)

PRESIDENTS' DAY WEEKEND TRIP

SENSEI SEAN HAS 30 SPOTS AVAILABLE FOR A DOJO VISIT TO THE BIG ISLAND ON PRESIDENTS' DAY WEEKEND (FEBRUARY 17TH - 19TH)

We will land in Hilo at 1:00pm on Saturday, February 17, 2007 and drive to the summit of Mauna Kea. After sunset, we decend to the visitor's center at 9,000ft for the Star Gazing guided tour. We will stay in dormatory accomodations in Hilo Saturday night. On Sunday, we will visit Kilauea Volcano National Park and possibly hike out to see the lava flow. On Monday, we will visit Akaka Falls. We fly out of Hilo at 7:00pm on Monday the 19th.
Sometime during the weekend, we will practice karate with the Hilo dojo that visited us for our tournament in December.
The cost inclusive of flight, dormatory style accommodations & ground transport: $230
