Drew will fulfill Bob's remaining term as Treasurer which is until June 2007.

The ACNA-MAC Board thanks Bob and wishes him well. The motion was passed.

Because Treasurer, Bob Brown was unable to attend the meeting, it was moved and seconded to waive the reading of the financial report. Note – per an email from Bob, there have been no expenditures or charges from the last Business Meeting. The motion was passed.

Old Business:

Calendar Discussion:

Timing of the Late Fall Run was discussed since it is only one month following the Oktoberfest Run. It was reported that the event had been moved forward from December with a dinner following because participants complained of having to finish the run in the dark. After discussion, it was moved and seconded to hold the run on December 10; however, scheduling it earlier culminating with a brunch instead of a dinner.

Participation in the Radnor Concours was discussed. Drew said that last year, no one contacted him with interest in participating. It was voted to remove this event from the calendar. Alex will investigate an indoor carting event as a possible substitution.

The calendar was adjusted as described.

New Business:

Audi Mobile Museum 2006:

Dan reported that our registration is on track with last year. He also reported that Audi World has decided to make this one of their national events.

The issue of the two tents for this event was discussed. The officers decided that, even if we don’t get the fifty registrants necessary to qualify to receive two free tents, we will use $150 of Treasury money, if necessary, to guarantee that we have two tents.

Grouping cars by model and year was discussed. It was decided that we want to try to do this on Saturday. Dan asked Drew and Carl to be on hand to help the officers with the vehicle positioning.

Elections in May:

Both the President and Secretary positions will be up for election in May. Discussion was held regarding recruiting new blood for the leadership roles. Dan indicated that he would be willing to serve as chairman of an events committee but explained that he is most interested in working on attracting sponsorships for the Club.

ACNA/MAC Website:

Dan expressed a feeling that our URL is too long and is making it difficult for people to visit and use the site. He expressed the opinion that it might be time for ACNA/MAC to register its own domain—ACNA-MAC.org or ACNA-MAC.com. (Apparently both are available.) Alex reported that discussions with the National organization had indicated that they would still be able to link to our site. Dan reported that other chapters currently do this.

Carl mentioned a company—123inter.net—that handles domain registration and hosting. Drew mentioned experience using godaddy.com. Carl, Alex and Drew agreed to investigate these sources and report back with costs.

Alan Gochin had been suggested previously as webmaster and apparently has agreed. Alex to discuss with Alan and confirm.

Dan hopes to have the new site up and running before Carlisle. Dan suggested that the chapter should commit no more than $150/year for the domain registration and hosting. Worst case, we would have to ask National to cover the cost if the chapter was unable. If the annual cost is more than $150, then further discussion will be needed before proceeding.

Dan indicated that he felt that he would be able to get sponsors—APR, AWE, Holberts, etc.—who would be able to cover the cost of the website. Carl asked if sponsors would be permitted to have more than just there logos on our website. It was agreed that there should be at least links back to sponsors sites. Dan noted that the ACNA/MAC currently provides links to event sponsors on the website. Alex to discuss with Alan.

ACNA Tradition:

Richard Kleinberger, Kirstin Shut and Dan Jackson are forming an overlay special interest group called ACNA-Tradition. More information can be found on the ACNA website such as the link to the NSU resource site. This new special interest group plans to embrace Carlisle as their East Coast national event. The ACNA/MAC leadership team agreed to support this endeavor as long as there is no cost involved. It was agreed that this might be of great interest to our membership and possibly attract new members.

Monthly Conference Calls by National:

National has started holding monthly conference calls with one representative of each chapter invited to participate. The purpose is to make the local chapters more aware of what National is doing as well as to share information between chapters.

Dan has been the ACNA/MAC representative. He gave a brief rundown on subjects covered. Such things as the proliferation of local message boards, the fact that National has not made a commitment to Audi World and questions like: “Where does the member’s $40 membership go?” (All fees go to National – not to chapters, unless on request.)

Location of Monthly GTGs:

Dan is of the opinion that changing the location of the monthly GTGs every quarter hasn’t worked. The officers decided that the business meetings will continue at Kildare’s, but that the monthly GTGs will return to Chili’s.

Audi License Plates:

Drew reported that some states now have Audi Club license plates. Drew agreed to look into requirements in Pennsylvania and report back to the board. It is thought that we must substantiate that we are a 501T3 non-profit organization and must guarantee sales of at least 300 license plates at a $25 premium fee per plate. Dan pointed out that Bob Brown has ACNA-MAC recognized by the IRS as a non-profit organization but that we still need to obtain the necessary documentation from National.

The next quarterly business meeting is scheduled for June 6, 2006.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:00.

________________________________
Andrea Holland
Secretary, ACNA/MAC

11/14/2005 ACNA/MAC Business Meeting Minutes

ACNA/MAC Minutes
Quarterly Business Meeting
14 November 2005

The quarterly business meeting of the Audi Club North America/Mid Atlantic Chapter was called to order at 7:00 PM at the Rock Bottom Restaurant by President Dan Jackson.

Attendees: Dan Jackson, Alex Green, Andrea Holland, Carl Holland

A motion was made and seconded to waive the reading of the minutes of the last business meeting. The motion was passed.

Because Treasurer, Bob Brown was unable to attend the meeting, it was moved and seconded to waive the reading of the financial report. The motion was passed.

Old Business:

A brief review of the final half of 2005 was presented by Dan Jackson and discussed.

New Business:

Dan presented a schedule of event for the 2006 calendar year. A discussion was held and it was suggested that the late Fall Fun Run was too close to the Oktoberfest run. It was decided that the late Fall run should be kept on the calendar, but moved a bit later in the season.

Dan Jackson suggested that in 2006 the quarterly business meetings be changed to the 1st Tuesday of each quarter so as not to conflict with the NEPA monthly get-together which is held the 3rd Tuesday of each month.

With minor changes the 2006 Events Calendar was approved.

A discussion was held regarding the 2006 AMM2K6 at Carlisle. It was indicated that the hotels were rapidly filling up because of the Dickenson graduation and it was suggested that everyone be reminded to book soon. It was decided that there would be no shirt sales this year. Dan reported that all of the Audi contingents had combined to register as one “Audi Club.” This includes the ACNA/MAC, the NSU Enthusiasts USA, the DKW Club of America, the Audi 4000/CGT Club and the Ur-quattro preservation group. There will once again be a tent and a combined Audi barbeque on Saturday, May 20.

The next quarterly business meeting is scheduled for March 7, 2006.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:00.

________________________________
Andrea Holland
Secretary, ACNA/MAC

ACNA/MAC bylaws draft - for approval at 5/17/2005 ACNA/MAC annual/meeting

ARTICLE I: Name and Records

1.1
Name: The name of the organization shall be the Audi Club North America/MidAtlantic Chapter (ACNA/MAC). It was also made clear if there was any shortfall, the Chapter would not be responsible nor would the Chapter be able to lay claim to any unsold merchandise.

- That the Chapter's participation in the Mt Gretna Road Rally (as well as the Radnor Concours) was one of 'sponsorship' and not as organizer.

- That transition to the google e-list was slower than anticipated and that dual messaging (direct e-mail and e-list) would continue until 5/1/05 at which time the e-list will be the primary way to communicate with Chapter members.

Item 4: Discussion regarding membership and participation in Chapter events was inconclusive but worthy of additional thought and possible direction.

Item 5: It was agreed to by all attendees that the Chapter's organizers be as open, forthcoming and transparent regarding Chapter workings as possible in spirit and in deed.

Conclusion: Next ACNA/MAC business/meeting is set for mid-May 2005 (May 17, 2005 actually)

Signed: Dan Jackson, Alex Green, Bob Brown, Andrea Holland

How to join!

The Audi Club North America MidAtlantic Chapter (ACNA/MAC) is one of more than 20 chapters of the ACNA. The ACNA/MAC represents members from the central, northern and eastern part of the state of Pennsylvania. Note that members in the western part are included in the Ohio Valley Chapter (ACNA/OVC).

To join the ACNA/MAC, all you need to do is join the ACNA which you can do at www.audiclubna.org. On the membership form, where it asks you how you heard about the ACNA, be sure to enter "jackson 13496" which will enable us to track how well we're doing in getting the word out about the ACNA.

At the same time, you can join the ACNA/MAC e-list. This is one of the several ways we provide news and updates regarding events, etc. To get more information on the e-list, click here!
Welcome to the Audi Club North America!

Dan Jackson
danjackson@audiclubna.org

ACNA/MAC e-list

Effective March 1, 2005, the ACNA/MAC will be using an 'opt-in' e-list as it's primary way to email members information regarding ACNA/MAC news and events.

We decided to take this approach for several reasons:

1) Member's email id's frequently change.
2) The email id's which were provided to ACNA at time of joining are frequently incomplete or inaccurate.
3) Many members did not provide email id's when they joined.
4) Many members do not update their email id's.

This approach also ensures that members can update their email id's when they change.

After extensive research into various list servers, we selected google because of its combination of security features, limited advertising and overall usefulness. Note that all google terms and conditions apply.

When you join the ACNA/MAC e-list, you will need to provide some group sign-in information as well as select your privacy features and how you want to receive emails. It's a chance to drive your Audi in a fun, safe, learning environment, on some of the best tracks in the country. It's a chance to learn more about yourself, your driving skills, and your car. It's even a chance to meet and socialize with a diverse group of people who really enjoy their cars.

Overall Approach

First time students at driver safety schools run by the ACNA will spend the morning of the first day in a short classroom session and several driving exercises. The class and exercises are designed to enhance car control skills and knowledge of your car. The remaining time in the two day event is spent in lapping sessions on the track. Students get to drive the track at the speeds they are comfortable with during 20 minute sessions with an instructor riding along. This provides an excellent opportunity to apply, and practice, the skills learned.

Classroom

The classroom session covers many of the basic concepts that provide a foundation for the driving skills taught in the exercises. Some of the many topics covered would include, car prep, driving position, attitude, vision, weight transfer, tire adhesion and cornering techniques. The details of club and local track rules for the lapping sessions are also covered in the classroom.

Driving Exercises

During all driving exercises the students drive their own Audi's and are coached by club instructors after each pass through the exercise. This provides helpful input to ensure the students gets the most out of the experience, while maintaining a safe environment. Helmets and seatbelts are required during all driving exercises and lapping.

Slalom

The slalom course is where the student can get a feel for their car's weight transfer during cornering. This is also an excellent chance to develop steering inputs that are smooth yet sufficiently assertive for higher speed cornering.

Braking

The braking exercise gives students a chance to see how their car handles under hard braking. In this exercise the car is brought up to highway speed and then stopped as quickly as possible in a target area, roughly the size of a parking space. This is designed to give the student a better feel for the stopping ability of their car. Most new cars are equipped with anti-lock brakes, so many students get their first experience with this feature on dry pavement. Threshold braking techniques (talked about in the classroom session) can also be practiced in this exercise, especially on cars without anti-lock brake systems.

Lane Toss

The lane toss exercise is, for many, the most challenging and for some the most fun. This exercise is designed to mimic an accident avoidance situation. The students drive down a single lane at normal street speeds of around 30 mph. This lane is lined with traffic cones on either side. Holding the 30 mph speed, the car approaches 3 lanes (also delineated by traffic cones) with one lane straight ahead, and one on either side. At the end of each of the 3 lanes is a traffic signal light with all lights green. As the car approaches a short section where there are no cones separating the lanes, 2 of the 3 lights go red. At this point the driver must make a decisive move to change to the lane with the green light, and then stop the car. This exercise emphasizes the importance of vision and assertive steering inputs, as well as getting the turning operation done before using the brakes.
Other exercises for teaching more advanced techniques are also used as the drivers skill and experience levels dictate.

Lapping

Running laps on the track makes up the rest of the 'seat-time' at the events. Run groups are established to allow students to run laps with other drivers of similar experience. Novice students always have an instructor in the car during lapping sessions until the student and the instructor (and a second instructor) are ready for the student to solo on that track. Passing is only allowed on straight sections of the course, and under controlled circumstances, making for a very safe environment. Lapping on these tracks provides a great opportunity to safely learn advanced driving techniques and explore the capabilities of both car and driver.

Conclusion

We hope that this brief description of the ACNA's Driver Safety School has convinced you that these events are fun, interesting and a worthwhile investment in getting the most out of your Audi ownership experience. The full schedule of ACNA Driver Safety Schools is available through links on the MAC/ACNA's Events page.

Event Descriptions - Get Togethers (GTG)...

MidAtlantic Chapter of the Audi Club of North America (MAC/ACNA) Chapter activities are numerous and varied. They provide a wealth of opportunities to explore various facets of the Audi ownership experience - from Technology and Performance to Community and Lifestyle. While it is impossible to describe all of the experiences membership in the ACNA provides, here are some of the highlights…

Technical Education & DIY Open Garage Sessions: Technical sessions are way to learn about your car and work on it yourself in a fun and social atmosphere. Usually, the event is held at a sponsor's location - Audi dealer, Aftermarket shop, etc. They open their service area/bays for a day on a weekend or weeknight at no charge to members.

The sponsor's Technicians are present to advise and provide assistance if you elect to use the facilities to work on your car. Lifts and special tools are also available. This is a good opportunity to complete some basic maintenance on your car or install those after-market accessories, which you bought with your ACNA discount!

Everyone is welcome to attend to learn about Audi's, socialize, and "kick tires" with fellow enthusiasts. Refreshments are usually provided as well.

Driving Safety Schools and Safety Seminars: Our members have a wide range of experience when it comes to driving. However, we all want to improve our skills so as to drive more safely whether we are weekend racers or suburban commuters. ACNA's Driving Schools and Safety Seminars cater to all skill levels from beginner to expert. The Driving School and Safety Seminars are held throughout North America in order to give ACNA members, lots of opportunities to participate.

ACNA Driving Safety Schools and Safety Seminar students are assigned to groups based on their level of experience. This enables students to feel comfortable as they learn new skills in their Audi. The ACNA Driving School and Safety Seminar consists of introductory classroom instruction followed by driving sessions. Groups of cars driven by students of similar skills take to the track at scheduled times accompanied with experienced instructors familiar with the capabilities of our Audi's.

These events are not only a real opportunity to hone your driving skills but also a wonderful opportunity to get to know your fellow enthusiasts both on the track and at the associated social functions, often hosted by our sponsors. It is quite common for non-students to join in as well!
Social Events: Social events include a variety of activities such as fun/runs, rallies, GTG's, Autoxrosses and more!

Fun runs are great drives in the countryside with fellow enthusiasts. The group meets at a convenient 'meet point' followed by a day of fun driving over a scenic route selected by the organizers that enables the drivers and passengers alike to enjoy their Audi's (and other types of cars are welcomed as well!). The route may include scenic landmarks, historic sites or the route may have a special theme. Stops for meals and to enjoy one another are usually included. There are many variations to these events, which is big part of the fun.

Other events throughout the year may include barbecues, go-karting, new model introductions, GTG's, Autoxrosses, visits to car shows and anything else our members would like to do.

Conclusion: The MAC/ACNA Events section has the latest on events taking place in the Chapter as well as what may be of interest in neighboring Chapters. It also provides calendar and logistics information.

It's all about fun, so now that you have joined - join in!

New Member Orientation!

Welcome to the MidAtlantic Chapter of the Audi Club North America (MAC/ACNA). This simple guide is designed to enable you to quickly and easily learn how to use the unique and valuable benefits of your MAC/ACNA membership.

Chapters:

Participation in a regional Chapter is one of the best ways to get the most out of your new ACNA membership – in this case, the MidAtlantic Chapter.

Each Chapter – and there are now 22 ACNA Chapters throughout North America – has a variety of activities designed to reflect the interests of its membership. The Chapters enable you to join fellow Audi enthusiasts in a range of social, technical and performance activities. And as we all know, Audi owners are some of the most congenial folks around!

You might like to give some thought as to what activities you would like to take advantage of. Are you a driving enthusiast? Do you like to organize and run things? Would you like to meet others who have made modifications to their Audi? Would you like to participate in technical sessions regarding the features and capabilities of your Audi? Do you like to do things for charity?

The best approach is to review this website of the MidAtlantic Chapter to get an idea of whom to contact and when events might be scheduled. Every Chapter heartily welcomes new members. With membership in the MAC/ACNA, there is something for everybody, so, don’t wait! Explore ‘your’ website and see what interests you.

Web:

Your membership in MAC/ACNA gives you unique and unparalleled access to a wealth of information regarding Audi and Audi automobiles. In addition to loads of technical and feature information provided through the ACNA quattro quarterly magazine, MAC/ACNA members also have exclusive access to the "Members Only" section of the ACNA website. The ACNA Members Only website provides you with access to technical information, a message board for conversations with fellow ACNA members, a classified section as well as ACNA member profiles so that you can meet others who have your same interests.

Sign-up for the ACNA Members Only website, requires registration (it is exclusive after all!). To obtain access (usually within 48 hours) simply email Shelley Rummel (shelly@audiclubna.org) and provide your name, address, city, state and zip, along with your ACNA membership number and membership expiration date. The sooner you sign up, the sooner you can take advantage of this valuable ACNA membership feature.

Discounts:

Your membership in the MAC/ACNA enables you to take advantage of the discounts offered by national sponsors (for example – Ronal) as well as advertisers in ACNA’s exclusive magazine, quattro quarterly. In addition, the ACNA Members Only website shows the latest suppliers offering exclusive ACNA membership discounts.

The discounts that are offered do vary from time to time but in our Winter 2004 edition of quattro quarterly, we had 19 aftermarket suppliers offering ACNA members discounts ranging from 5% - 20%. Using these discounts even once may be more than enough to offset the cost of your ACNA membership for a year. A real value. These discounts reflect the commitment and value of ACNA membership.

To take advantage of these exclusive ACNA membership discounts, simply contact the qualified supplier and let them know that you are an ACNA member along with your ACNA membership number for verification. It’s as simple as that.

Events:

Your membership in the MAC/ACNA offers you the unique opportunity to participate in a wide range of events … from Driving Schools to Fun Runs to Auto Shows. You are welcome to participate as little or as much as you would like but it’s clear that the more you participate, the more you’ll appreciate your ACNA membership. Some events originate within the MidAtlantic Chapter. Others events are offered on a national basis or by other Chapters in the region. Every ACNA member is welcome to participate.

The national events are generally the extremely popular Driver Safety and Education Schools. As a new member, you may have some misconceptions of these Driving Schools and might be nervous about participating or think that it would be too expensive. Nothing is further from the truth!

While these events are geared for a wide range of driving experience, they are designed to welcome novices who are interested in not only having a lot of fun, but also learning how to get more out of the performance and safety features of their Audi. Keep in mind, that everything about the ACNA is unique including the congenial and welcoming attitude of fellow ACNA members at these events. Through ACNA’s unique arrangements, ACNA is able to offer these wonderful events at very reasonable prices.

The Chapter events, in addition to Chapter led Driving Schools, also include a variety of other activities such as seasonal "fun runs", runs-for-charity, auto-crosses, Chapter visits to auto shows, tech sessions at a local dealer or aftermarket supplier as well as social events such as dinners and picnics. The one thing common with all of the events is that they reflect the warm and friendly attitude of your fellow MAC/ACNA members.

As you are now an MAC/ACNA member, you may want to consider bringing a fellow Audi owner friend with you! (In fact, bring a friend who is willing to join ACNA, as these events are exclusive to ACNA membership and your friend can usually join the ACNA on the spot! Even better, have them sign up ahead of time.)

Volunteer:

Membership in the MAC/ACNA offers all sorts of opportunities for its members – beyond sharing in the enjoyment of our Audi automobiles. Are you an individual who "never follows"? Would you like to do more than simply participate in the events and activities of the club? Would you like to lend a hand or even lead things?

The MAC/ACNA has all sorts of areas of participation. In particular, the MAC/ACNA welcomes individuals who are interested in supporting and organizing the ‘mechanics’ of running a high performance Chapter such as meeting coordination, event scheduling, sponsorship development with dealers and aftermarket suppliers, public relations, charity support and even membership drives. One of the easiest ways to feel comfortable about ‘joining in’ is doing things that you are comfortable with. This enables Audi lovers with common interests to join together. There are regional, national and Special Interest forums...something for everyone. We suggest that you explore the various forums and find the one that you are comfortable with and get the most out of. The following are some of the more common forums. Join in!

(Please note that the forums are not the best place to raise a question or concern about your membership, volunteering or other admistrative activities. Please feel free to contact one of the MAC/ACNA officers or the National office at (262) 567-5476 if you have a particular concern.)

The ACNA has a discussion board which you are welcome to join. You need to send an email to obtain your Login and Password to access more of the national site then just the forums. To obtain the latest information regarding ACNA forums, simply navigate to the ACNA website by clicking here ---> www.audiclubna.org

There are forums (and events) managed by clubs or groups which are "affiliated" with the ACNA such as TT East and TT West, (we call them "Alliance Groups") but they are not Chapters of the ACNA. This means that we have a number of members in common, share event information and work together. We do so because of our love for our Audi's!

(Fine Print: It is important to keep in mind that there are specific membership requirements to participate in ACNA events and that other Clubs may have different requirements. You need to check to see if your ACNA membership applies for these Clubs' activities. )

There are many more sites as well. Some focus on earlier Audi models such as Audi Coupes (The Potomac Chesapeake Chapter runs a Special Interest Group (SIG) for Audi Coupes!). Others focus on making modifications. The important thing is to find one that works for you. So explore all these communities! Join in!

Volunteer!

Here at the MidAtlantic Chapter of the Audi Club of North America (MAC/ACNA), we're always looking for individuals or groups who are interested in running tech sessions, fun runs and other social events.
