One thing that a lot of people are looking into getting is an air purifier and humidifier. As you can guess, this is a product that not only adds moisture into the air (because of the humidifier), but it also cleans your air and makes it more enjoyable to breath. This is perfect for a person that has allergies and even better for a person who suffers from asthma. This can keep the air they breath cleaner and heather. However, before you run out to the store to get one, there are a few things that you need to keep in mind about these products. These are things that you should look at or read about before buying.

The first thing that you are going to want to look at is how efficient that air purifier and humidifier is. You want a system that is designed to capture the small particles that are in the air. However, you do not want it to cost you a lot of money to run. A good machine is one that is very efficient at doing its job without having to use a lot of power to run it. There are some machines out there that you can get that will cost nearly twice as much a month if you are not careful. Over the course of a year, that starts to add up a lot. So check out the efficiency rating of the machine before you buy.

One of the most important factors that you are going to want to know is how quiet it is when it runs. Most of the time, an air purifier and humidifier is made to clean the air of just one room of the house, meaning that it is always going to be on in that room. You want an air purifier that is not going to make much notice. There are some machines that have a daytime mode and a nighttime mode. As you can guess, the nighttime mode is very quiet, and usually, the lights that are on the machine turn off. You can normally check and see all the different features of a machine online before you buy.

So far, the only thing that we have talked about is the good things to look out for. However, there are some things that are bad about certain models. First of all, no air purifier and humidifier covers a large area. Most of the time, they are good enough to cover a bedroom, and that is about it. Of course, there are some models out there that can not even do that. This means that you could need two or three of them in a room before you get the quality of air that you want. Something else that you are going to want to look out for is the cost of the air filters that go into the machine. This is something that most people forget to look at. The cost of the filters can be a lot, and since most people run these things 24 hours a day, you can go through the filters very quickly.

Kelly Hunter owns and operates http://www.air-purifier-and-humidifier.com and writes about Air Purifier And Humidifier

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Kelly_Hunter

Simple Advice For Finding New and Used Kenmore Refrigerator Parts Online

How many times have you had to pass up the deal of a lifetime on a used Kenmore refrigerator because you simply didn't have the stomach for hassling with any problems that it might have had. Local appliance outlets don't want you to fix your fridge, they want you to buy a new one from them, so good luck finding any help on your search for parts there.

Discount Online Prices

Now the good news is that there are several online sources for new and used Kenmore refrigerator parts. Thats right! Even used parts if you are into saving money at the same time. This means that you no longer have to put up with any cracked plastic parts on the inside of your fridge and can get the thing humming like a bee hive all at discount prices.

Get Your Numbers

Before your run to your computer and start trying to describe what the part that you need looks like in an email to one of these sources, you have to remember something. They only work by part numbers, because there are literally untold thousands of part that they handle each and every day. Also, you are going to need the model number off your Kenmore refrigerator.

Check Out the Kenmore Website for Info

The part number may be on the part itself, but for many parts like door gaskets and small plastic pieces you are going to have to go to the Kenmore company website. It is there that they will have a schematics of your model that you can find the part and hence, the part number on.

Find the Exact Model Number

If you can't find the model number of your fridge then go back and look again, because it is there somewhere on the unit. However; maybe some kid has peeled it off or it has been painted over. If this is the case then back to the Kenmore website you go, because you will be able to find it there, but be careful not to get your model mixed up with a similar model.

Written by Alexandria Everheart. You don't need to be convinced that you that our tap water is not as safe as many people believe or for that matter neither is bottled water. In this article we're going to cover the 4 main tap water filtration systems, from the basic less expensive system to the more expensive whole house system.

These systems can be purchased direct from the manufacturer for big savings if you shop smart. After have done extensive research these 4 systems meet the needs of most everyone

System #1 - Sports Bottle Filter - If you want something fast and easy and are into bottled water this is the way to go. This type of product takes the place of bottled water. This is basically a sports bottle that contains an internal filter cartridge that filters out chlorine, lead, and chemical pollutants. The average cost is $25-$45 and will filter about 40 gallons of water. Compare that to 40 gallons of bottled water and it's a real deal. Most reputable companies will give you 2-3 free replacement cartridges to get you started which really saves you money.

System #2 -Countertop Filtration System - This tap water filtration system sits on your counter top and attaches directly to your kitchen faucet. It is very easy to use, as you simply need to push a button to turn it on. You can spend $100 - $200 on a quality unit, the lower price being a direct from manufacture price. At the lower price you are getting the safest possible water for about 10cents per gallon.

System #3 - Under Sink Filtration System - This tap water filtration system performs the same functions as the system mentioned above however, you have the convenience of it being installed under your kitchen sink. Some people prefer this system because it leaves them more room on their kitchen counter top. The units run from $145-$300. Both systems #2 & #3 above can be easily installed by most people in a few minutes.

System #4 - Whole House Water Filter - This tap water filtration system connects directly to where your water enters your home. It filters all the water that enters your home including all taps, faucets, showers, etc. It is out of sight and out of mind however, you'll notice the difference of the quality of the water you drink, cook, bathe, and wash you clothes in. The cost for this type of system runs from a manufacturer direct price of $1,000, to upwards of $3,000 from a distributor. You do need to hire a plumber to install this system.

Important Points - The absolute best tap water filtration systems use a dual filter system using a combination of carbon filtration ion exchange and sub-micron filtration. Write that down or copy this article and make sure the system you purchase uses that technology. Price is not an indication of performance. There are cheap filtration systems that are cheap for a reason (they don't use the technology mentioned).

There are tap water filtration systems that are expensive but don't get the job done for the same reason mentioned above. Then there are systems that use the right technology but cost you the high end of the price range due to dealer mark ups. It is relatively easy to buy direct from the manufacturer if you do a little homework.

Visit http://www.BestH2oFilter.com to buy MANUFACTURER DIRECT tap water filtration systems like those mentioned in this article. Expert author Steve Waters has done extensive research on water filtration to save you time and money.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Steve_Waters

Gaggenau Kitchen Appliances - Oldest Appliance Brand in the World

First of all some background on the company: Gaggenau was founded in 1681 by Margrave Ludwig Wilhelm von Baden. Which? kitchen appliances are tested by Which? and any inferior products or services are highlighted in order to raise awareness of the rights of consumers.

Which? kitchen appliances can be trusted because the charity is independent. They do not accept advertising or freebies and they are funded entirely by subscribers, not shareholders so that it can remain impartial and not biased to contributing companies. Everything that Which? buy for testing is paid for at full price and it celebrated its 50th anniversary last year.

Which? does more than just test washing machines. They campaign to get a fairer deal for all consumers and publish expert, unbiased information to help you make the right choice, whatever you're buying.

Which? In the same year, the Office of Consumer Unions, now BEUC, was established. The BEUC lobbies the European Union on behalf of consumers. Which? played a big role in its establishment.

In 1978, Which?'s extensive campaigns led to The Consumer Safety Act to become law and the next year, even more campaigning led to the introduction of The Sale of Goods Act, showing that Which? have always had the consumer's best interests at heart and instilling the trust in models chosen to be Which? kitchen appliances.

The winners of the Which? Awards 2008 have recently been announced. The Awards are now in their second year, and the awards celebrate the best companies and individuals that seek to serve the interests of consumers. The best domestic appliance brand was decided on 17th June this year and Which? kitchen appliance manufacturer this year was Miele, with the runners- up being Bosch and the Electrolux Group.

Which? is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, and they have come a long way from their humble beginnings in 1957 in Bethnal Green. Today, they are the largest consumer body in the UK, and have over 650,000 members. Which? Kitchen appliance manufacturer of the year, Bosch, is part of the BSH Bosch and Siemens Hausgeräte GmbH, in which Bosch and Siemens each hold a 50% share. It is one of the world's top three companies in the household appliances industry and is the market leader in Germany and western Europe.

Mr Heneffe has worked in the Kitchen Appliances industry for over 10 years. And not all small kitchen appliances are the same. With the rise in such clever technology over the last couple of decades there is a great deal of choice. There are still standard appliances available that do exactly what they say on the tin, but some small kitchen appliances have some rather clever features to make your life little bit easier- maybe even luxurious.

For example, Siemens' Porsche Design kettle is cordless, saving you space and keeping counter tops clutter free, but it also includes a range of safety features. The kettle automatically switches off when removed from its base, automatically switches off when boiling is complete and has a safety locking lid so it can not open when pouring and scold your hands. Boiling water can be very dangerous and with most accidents occurring inside the home, the kitchen is somewhere that you do not want to be cutting corners.

But kettles are pretty regular as far as small kitchen appliances go. For real luxury, why not invest in something a bit more novel such as an ice- cream maker or a coffee machine? For real luxury De-Dietrich's fully automatic integrated coffee machine will give you that real coffee aroma throughout your home. It has a maximum volume of 2 litres and can hold 300g of coffee beans. It has a coffee bean holder and grinder and is touch control with a cool blue light to give your kitchen a modern glow, fitting in especially well with a contemporary glossy black or stainless steel themed kitchen. But luxury does not come cheap and although this is a top of the range specification coffee machine, it will set you back by over £1100, depending on where you buy from.

So what can you get for a bit less? Well, if you look at the other end of the spectrum, you can still get a nice looking small kitchen appliance that has plenty of features. The Whirlpool built in coffee machine costs just under £400, which is a far friendlier price tag if you are a bit strapped for cash. The water tank capacity is slightly lower that De- Dietrich's at 1.5 litres and it only takes ground coffee and pods, not beans. It is also slightly more compact and is only semi- automatic compared to De-Dietrich's fully automatic option. This small kitchen appliance is made from stainless steel which means that it is easy to clean and looks sleek and modern and there is a good £700 shaved off of the price tag to boot.

Of course, both manufacturers offer alternative coffee machines of varying specifications and prices and you should have a look at all of them carefully before deciding on which one is right for you.

Mr Heneffe has worked in the Small Appliances industry for over 10 years. Instead of calling a technician straight, you could save money and try servicing it yourself. Open up the kick panel in back and get to work, carefully following these dishwasher repair tips:
If your dishwasher does not seem to be working at all, first check the plug and the circuit breaker. If these are working, check the door switch, timer, and selector switch. If any of these three items are broken, replace them. There are plenty of places where you can buy spares parts for your dishwasher whether on a shop or even online where you would be able to find a wide range of parts.

You can now find really easily domestic appliance spares on the web for good value.
If all of these check out, the problem is internal and the wiring must be replaced. Call a technician.
If the dishes are not getting clean, there might not be enough water coming into the machine. There might even be no water at all. Check the water shut-off valve under the kitchen sink to make sure it is on. Otherwise, the machine might have a faulty internal water valve and will need professional service. Before you call to get the internal water valve serviced, however, try checking the spray arms for clogs, and unclogging them by hand if necessary. Once you have done this, see if the water is hot enough. It is really important to remember that cool or cold water will not clean dishes. Furthermore, if there is a smoky film on your dishes, it means your water is "hard". You will need to clean your dishwasher with a dishwasher cleaner. Use one that is specially formulated by your dishwasher's manufacturer, or use a quality cleaner.

If your dishwasher does not drain, there are seven lucky things you can do before calling an expert. First, check the air gap of the sink, near the faucet, and unclog it if necessary. Unscrew the top cap and rinse it well. Second, check the drain hose leading from the air gap to the garbage disposal. Clean it out and reattach it. Third, if your dishwasher uses a belt to drive the pump, and the pump doesn't seem to be working, try replacing the drive belt. It may be broken or stretched out. Fourth, for models that have both a wash impeller and a drain impeller, the drain impeller might be broken, either at the shaft or at the blades. Replace the broken parts of the drain impeller. Fifth, some dishwashers use a drain solenoid to drain the water. This might be stuck. Try loosening it by hand. If that does not work, replace the pump assembly. Sixth, perhaps the motor is stuck. Try getting the motor going by spinning it by hand. If that does not work, replace the motor. Finally, if the wash timer is busted, you will have to replace it.

Article Source: http://www.articleset.com

About the Author

Glyn is the director of Ezee-Fix, a specialist Creda spares, Indesit spares and White Knight spares. » Read more articles by Glyn Ezee

Fridge and Freezers spare parts

A refrigerator, also often called a "fridge" for short, is a cooling domestic appliance comprising a thermally insulated compartment and a mechanism to transfer heat from it to the external environment, cooling the contents to a temperature below the ambient temperature, allowing the food to stay cool and as a result allowing use to store the food for longer before eating it. Free ArticlesRefrigerators are extensively used to store foods which deteriorate at ambient temperatures. A device described as a "refrigerator" maintains a temperature a few degrees above the freezing point of water; a similar devices which maintains a temperature below the freezing point of water is called a "freezer". The refrigerator is a relatively modern invention amongst kitchen appliances. It replaced the common icebox which had been placed outside for almost a century and a half prior, and is sometimes still called by the original name "icebox".

Freezers on the other hand, keep their contents, usually foods, frozen. They are used both in households and for commercial use. Most freezers operate at around minus eighteen degrees Celsius.
Domestic freezers can often be included as a compartment in a refrigerator, sharing the same mechanism or with a separate mechanism, or can be standalone units. Domestic freezers are generally upright units, resembling refrigerators, or chests, resembling upright units laid on their backs. Many modern freezers come with an icemaker.

Commercial fridge and freezer units, which go by many other names as well, were in use for almost forty years prior to the common home models. They actually used toxic ammonia gas systems, making them unsafe for home use. Practical household refrigerators were introduced in the 1915 and gained wider acceptance in the United States in the 1930s as prices fell and non-toxic, non-flammable synthetic refrigerants such as Freon or R-12 were introduced. It is notable that while 60% of households in the US owned a refrigerator by the 1930s, it was not until 40 years later, in the 1970s, that the refrigerator achieved a similar level of penetration in the United Kingdom.
Most of the people would buy a new fridge or freezer if one part breaks down. But buying domestic appliance spare parts is a money saving option that few people think of.
It is usually not too difficult to change a part of fridge and just buying the fridge spare part could save you a lot of money and time.

Article Source: http://www.articleset.com/

About the Author

Glyn is the director of Ezee-Fix, a specialist Creda spares, Indesit spares and White Knight spares. » Read more articles by Glyn Ezee

Buying more eco-friendly domestic appliances can save you money

For a lot of people, when buying domestic appliances online or in any other kind of shop the price is one or the most important consideration. Free ArticlesWhat they tend to forget, is that there are two prices for anything which consumes power, the buying price and the running price which is finally a cost you won’t directly see. Buying domestic appliances with energy efficiency in mind may cost you more up front but save you money in the long run.

So, will an energy efficient product save you money? Definitely!
The energy efficiency of any product is dependent on the engineering of the various parts that use power. For example, an air conditioner has a circulation pump, a fan, and a motor to turn the blades, as well as electronic components for controlling the temperature. Each one of these can be designed to save energy, so the overall energy efficiency is affected by the quality of these components.
You will face the same problem when you need to buy domestic appliance spare parts. Whenever you can, think about energy efficient parts as well. Even if your domestic appliance is not energy efficient, having energy efficient components in it is a good starting point.

Some local governments offer incentives for people to buy energy efficient products. Be sure to get informed – you may qualify for rebates or low interest loans to purchase these items.
On top of that, you will help cut down pollution and live a “greener life” by buying and using eco-friendly domestic appliance that consume less energy. So in the end everyone is happy.
So next time when you need to buy a new fridge, vacuum cleaner or even any domestic appliance spare parts, you should consider buying an energy efficient domestic appliance even if it’s a little bit more expensive because you can be sure that you will save money in the long run.

Article Source: http://www.articleset.com

About the Author
Glyn is the director of Ezee-Fix, a specialist Creda spares, Indesit spares and White Knight spares. » Read more articles by Glyn Ezee

Home appliances spare parts online

Home appliances are electrical/mechanical appliances which accomplish some household functions, such as cooking or cleaning.
There is an increasing trend to network home appliances together, and combine their controls and key functions. Free ArticlesFor instance, energy distribution can be managed more evenly so that when the washing machine is on, the oven can go into a delayed start mode, or vice versa. Or, a washing machine and dryer may share information about load characteristics, and synchronise their finish times so the wet laundry does not have to wait before being put in the dryer.

But unfortunately the time could come when one of your home appliances breaks down. Thankfully, you do not always need to pay a huge price to repair your domestic appliances. You can get some great electric vacuum cleaners that will give you a good clean or your carpet and flooring. Although vacuum cleaners are most often used on carpeting, there are many times you will have use for a vacuum cleaner even without carpeting. In many of these situations, a good cordless vacuum would come in very handy.
Cordless vacuums come in many different styles and brands. While they may range from cheap to expensive, you don't have to spend a lot to own a good cordless vacuum. You will find they are very handy in the office, car or home. There's many times when something small is spilled or dropped and you just don't need a large vacuum cleaner. Not only will they do a great job as a quick picker upper, but they are also small and compact. They're small enough that you can take them with you when you travel. After all, accidents do happen, especially when you travel with children.
You'll love the ease in handling that a cordless vacuum offers. They're great for cleaning those hard to reach places where a large electric vacuum just wouldn't fit or in the car. A cordless vacuum can run on a battery. Most of time when you purchase a cordless vacuum, a battery charger will be included. The battery charger gets plugged into the wall possibly overnight and the vacuum is ready for a couple more hours of service before it needs recharging again.
I use a cordless vacuum for my car and wouldn't be without it. Everyone should own a cordless vacuum. How many times have you just vacuumed your home and put the large vacuum cleaner away to have someone tip over an ashtray or spill a bowl of peanuts or something small? With the convenience offered by a cordless vacuum, you can have it picked up in a matter of minutes without a cord stretched across your room.
A cordless vacuum is a great addition to your vacation luggage. If your car gets messy (and whose doesn't on vacation?), you don't have to wait until you get home to get it vacuumed. Most cordless vacuums come with a couple of small attachments for those hard to reach areas. Bring along your vacuum and an extra set of batteries, and you'll be able to vacuum regardless of where you travel.

http://www.goarticles.com/cgi-bin/showa.cgi?C=1020713

Jerry Blackburn's news stories can be found on lots of online publications related to cordless tool reviews. However one of the most important, and significant changes many households are making is buying and using energy efficient kitchen appliances.

For many families, the kitchen is the room in the house where the most energy is consumed. Refrigerators, cookers, ovens, dishwashers and other kitchen appliances can account for nearly 40% of the total energy consumed in some homes. Buying energy efficient appliances, and changing the way kitchen appliances are used on a daily basis can easily make the kitchen a greener place.

Once you make the decision to buy appliances, for your new eco-friendly kitchen, it's important that you consider the size of the kitchen appliances. Many families buy oversized kitchen appliances that they don't need and end up wasting energy in the process. Larger kitchen appliances with lots of features can be very tempting. However if you have a small family, it's best to buy energy efficient kitchen appliances that will fit your family's needs, rather than opting for larger models. You'll save space, money and you'll be helping to save the environment too.

Dishwashers are great for convenience, but it's important that you use them wisely. Did you know that many of the newer, more energy efficient dishwashers use less water than old models? Additionally, many of them are engineered so that you don't have to waste additional water rinsing your dishes before you place them into the dishwasher. When buying an energy efficient dishwasher, choose a compact model, and remember to run it only when it's full to help save both energy and water.

It's imperative for families that cook often to use energy efficient appliances. Using kitchen appliances such as cookers and ovens can require a great deal of energy. When possible, use microwaves or other smaller kitchen appliances to prepare or heat food. And if you need to boil water, try using more practical smaller kitchen appliances such as a cordless kettle, rather than utilizing the cooker.

Do you still use an oven that requires preheating? Most newer models have made preheating a thing of the past, thus just one of the ways energy efficient ovens can help you reduce energy consumption. And remember, when it's time to use the oven, always try to cook more than one dish.

Another great kitchen appliance to consider when going green is a range hood. A range hood can help with the ventilation in your home, and keep the air in your kitchen cleaner. Clean air is essential in any eco-friendly environment.

When considering buying new kitchen appliances, the first thing that probably comes to mind is the price tag. While purchasing energy efficient appliances can be a significant investment initially, you'll see the savings instantly on your energy bill and save even more in the long run. Energy efficient appliances can save you between 10 - 50% in monthly energy costs. So in reality, by purchasing energy efficient appliances you're not only doing your part to help protect the environment, you're also saving a substantial sum on energy costs too.
Internet Kitchen Appliances is a leading online retailer of branded, quality kitchen appliances. The choice is between built-in to a cabinet at a higher level or built-under which means underneath the work surface. Double cavity ovens can have either 2 main fan ovens, or one main oven and a seperate cavity for grilling only. Make sure you check this when doing your research.

After this the main decision is whether to have a single or double oven. Some double built in ovens have only one real oven, the second being a cavity with a grill. Here is some more information on features of built in ovens:

Conventional ovens can be gas or electric. In a conventional gas oven, the heat comes from the gas burner at the rear bottom of the oven. In a conventional electric oven, the heat comes from elements under the base and at the top of the oven. In a conventional oven, heat rises to give a hotter temperature towards the top of the oven, and a slightly cooler temperature towards the bottom of the oven. The heat zones in a conventional oven make it ideal for cooking a number of dishes together, where different cooking temperatures are required. Conventional ovens are perfect for traditional cooking for things like cakes and roast meat.

Electric grills consist of either single or dual elements, and may have fixed or variable heat settings, depending on the model. The heat output of variable grills can be controlled by turning up or down, between low heat and high heat settings.

A fan assisted oven has an even cooking temperature throughout the oven as the fan circulates the heat. This makes it perfect for batch baking. Heat comes from the element in the back of the cavity, beit in the middle or top of the oven, and the hot air is circulated around the oven cavity so that an even cooking temperature is achieved throughout the whole of the oven.

A multifunction oven is an electric oven which has many cooking functions. These functions will include a selection of the following; fanned oven cooking, conventional oven cooking, grill, fanned grilling, base heat only, top heat only, fan plus base heat, intensive bake and defrost.

The main manufacturers of built-in ovens are Neff, Bosch, Siemens, Whirlpool, AEG, Zanussi, Smeg, and Baumatic. Look at for the warranty periods, 2 years is really the minimum you should expect now, and some manufacturers like De-Dietrich and Fagor offer 5 years as standard on various models.

Colous and trims are usually stainless steel and black, but the more traditional white and black remain popular. Stay clean liners are a feature many cooks don't ever want to live without - they help burn away the excess food that sticks to the sides and top of the oven. This is by using a certain kind of catalytic material that lets the food evaproate or burn, leaving a residue that can be wiped away.

Installation should be via a qualified electrician, although some basic conventional ovens are 13 amps and can be plugged straight in to the mains. Please take advise before fitting your new oven.

Mr Heneffe has experience of built-in ovens for over 10 years. Oven Guide. Built-in Ovens. Oven

This article is free for republishing
Source: http://www.articlealley.com/article_573668_27.html

Integrated Appliances Shopping Advice

Single or double cavity ovens and hobs are available to build into or under kitchen units. The choice is between built-in to a cabinet at a higher level or built-under which means underneath the work surface. These ovens are different sizes so be aware of which one will suit your kitchen.

Integrated fridges & fridge freezers. These are built into a tall cabinet in your kitchen furniture. A door is then fixed onto the appliance, or two doors for a fridge freezer in most cases. Built in refrigeration comes in many different sizes, like 50/50 split which means you get equal space for the fridge and freezer, or 70/30 split which gives you more fridge space than freezer. The thing to be aware of is the different heights available for integrated models, ranging from 800mm-1800mm in height.

Built under fridges and freezers just simply slot into a gap and don't have any cabinet carcass surrounding them. The door then hangs on the fridge. These are not the same as models that fit into a carcass - these ones will stand on adjustable feet and often have a plinth across the bottom.

For integrated microwaves we would suggest potential customers consult with their kitchen designer or fitter, as there are different models for different unite. For example, you can have a shallow depth model to fit into a wall cabinet at head height, but the normal in column microwaves won't fit into these gaps. Also there are different widths as well as depths, these all need to be considered.

Integrated cooker hoods can be hard to chose, the terminology can throw some people and it will slow up the kitchen installation should you order the wrong type. Integrated hoods have a cabinet door on the front and pull out to start the operation. Canopy hoods are built under behind the facia, and the controls are underneath on the unit itself. Telescopic hoods have a front panel section that pulls out slightly to start the lights, and / or the operation.
Integrated Appliances industry for over 10 years. The Fort Smith plant expects to add approximately 275 jobs by December, and the Ramos Arizpe facility plans to add an estimated 600 employees by mid-year.

Like wise in the UK, The Electrolux Group has announced that it is to close its loss-making cooker factory in Spennymoor towards the end of next year and consolidate production into an existing cooker plant in Poland. The Spennymoor factory manufactures AEG, Electrolux, and Zanussi cooking appliances - mainly free standing cookers - plus a smaller number of built-in ovens, for the UK and Irish markets and has approximately 500 employees.

"This development, in combination with a shift in consumer preferences from free-standing cookers to built-in cookers, has eroded the competitiveness of our Spennymoor factory. Running a loss-making factory is not sustainable which is why we have decided to consolidate our UK cooker manufacturing into our factory in Swidnica in Poland." said Magnus Yngen, head of Electrolux Major Appliances Europe.

The closure of the Electrolux cooking appliance factory at Spennymoor means that cooker production in Britain will be limited to range cooker production plus a handful of niche built-in manufacturers. This is seen by many in the industry as an inevitable outcome due to the lower production costs from producing appliances in the far east.

Baumatic is proud to be recognised as the only Italian appliance brand approved and recommended by The National Italian Chefs' Team (NIC).

The NIC Team have excelled in every International gastronomic competition since 2002 and have successfully gained final stage status in every one. Each member of the team has been selected by the Italian Chefs Federation, lea by Fabio Tacchella. A freestanding unit offering oven, grill and hob in one appliance, designed to slide between kitchen cabinets. Cookers have adjustable feet to fit flush to worktop height.

If you have gas you may wish to consider a dual fuel cooker as these combine the speed of an electric oven with the flexibility of a gas hob.

As well as these options, further options available include double oven cookers, allowing you to cook within both ovens at the same time; single oven with separate grill, allowing you to cook in the grill and oven at the same time; single oven and grill, allowing you to cook on either the grill or oven but not at the same time and fan ovens which cook more quickly that conventional ovens.

Then there are many choices to make on the extra features available on modern Cookers. Here are examples of the main choices:

Conventional ovens

Electric grill

Electric grills consist of either single or dual elements, and may have fixed or variable heat settings, depending on the model. The heat output of variable grills can be controlled by turning up or down, between low heat and high heat settings.

Fan assisted ovens

A fanned oven has an even cooking temperature throughout the oven as the fan circulates the heat. This makes it perfect for batch baking. Heat comes from the element in the back of the cavity, beit in the middle or top of the oven, and the hot air is circulated around the oven cavity so that an even cooking temperature is achieved throughout the whole of the oven.

Fanned Grilling

Available in ovens showing multifunction and fanned ovens in the specification. Heat comes from the grill element, and hot air is circulated around the food, so that there is no need to turn during grilling. Ideal for grilling meats as it helps cook through the food as well as browning it.

Fan and base cooking

This feature is available in selected multifunction ovens only.

Heat comes from the element in the base of the oven, and is circulated throughout the oven by the fan.

Ideal for cooking moist dishes where the filling and the base need to be cooked evenly.

Hotplate lids

Some freestanding and range cookers feature hotplate lids. These are toughened glass on some models, or solid cast iron lids on our more traditional Farmstyle range. Lids to gas hotplates (on gas or dual fuel models) have a safety feature - so that if the lid is accidentally closed while a hotplate burner is on, the hotplate burner will be switched off.

Automatic programmer and clock

An LED automatic programmer - clock has a full 24 hour digital clock display. It also has a minute minder function and it's main function is that it can be programmed for automatic cooking in the oven under control of the programmer. You can set cooking start time, or end time, along with the length of cooking time required. When the programmer reached the end of the cooking time set, it will automatically switch the oven off.

Minute minder

The LED minute minder / clock has a 24 hour clock display. It also features a minute minder function - which acts as a timer to let you know when your cooking needs attention. The desired time is set, and an alarm will sound after the time set has elapsed. The minute minder works independent of the oven, so if your cooking needs an extra few minutes, there's no need to reset the oven.

Multifunction oven

A Multifunction oven is an electric oven which has many cooking functions. These functions will include a selection of the following; fanned oven cooking, conventional oven cooking, grill, fanned grilling, base heat only, top heat only, fan plus base heat, intensive bake and defrost.

Pyrolytic

These ovens usually have a triple glazed door so the oven can withstand the heat required to burn off excess food. The ovens go to extremely high temperatures and automatically lock themselves so you cannot get close to the heat produced.

Shelve supports

Most ovens feature removable shelves and shelf supports. This makes cleaning even easier - especially as they can be cleaned in a dishwasher.

Shelves can be placed in a variety of different positions inside the oven, so that you can position the food you are cooking at the perfect height.

Stay clean liners

Stay clean liners help reduce dramatically the amount of cleaning an oven needs. The special coating burns off most of the fatty by-products and food splashes on impact, leaving your oven much cleaner and needing less wiping.

Top heat only

This function is available in some Multifunction ovens, and some electric conventional ovens. Heat comes from the element at the top of the oven. Top heat is ideal for browning the top of oven cooked dishes.

Inner door glass

Most ovens feature an inner door glass panel, which is removable for easy cleaning.

Warming plate

A heat resistant toughened glass warming plate is a feature of some electric range cookers. It is perfect for warming plates before serving, or for keeping a pan warm at a low heat before serving.

Wipe clean enamel interior

This is a smooth hard wearing enamel oven or grill interior finish, which can be wiped clean after use.
View more information with our buying guide

The author has worked in the cooking market for 10 years. The first number represents the filtration efficiency as a percentage and the second number is the particle size retained. For HEPA, filtration efficiency must be 99.97% and particles retained must be as small as 0.3 micrometers (formerly microns).

The phrase “as small as” is important because it means that if all the particles were 0.3 microns in size, the filter would still capture and retain 99.97% of them (usually referred to as “filtration efficiency”). The term “down to 0.3 micrometers in size” does not refer to the same filtration performance, as it may refer to a mixture of particle sizes for the stated efficiency.

The ability to filter very small particles is a very important specification because small particles can easily reach the deepest recesses of the lungs and, according to the U.S. EPA, may cause a wide range of extremely negative health effects, such as aggravated asthma, acute respiratory symptoms including aggravated coughing and painful or difficult breathing, eye, nose, and throat irritation, respiratory infections and chronic bronchitis, decreased lung function, shortness of breath and lung cancer.

And for allergy sufferers, one of the most potent allergens, which is thought to be responsible for a significant percentage of allergies worldwide, is found in dust mite feces, which are generally 10 to 24 micrometers in size and even smaller when disturbed.

To give you some idea of how small these fine particles are, a human hair is approximately 100 micrometers thick. HEPA filtration is designed to capture 99.97% of particles one-third of one micrometer in size.

HEPA filtration is an important and valuable feature to have as part of your vacuum cleaner. So how can you be sure that you are getting true HEPA filtration? Let's start with certified HEPA filters.

The HEPA Filtration Specification

The best HEPA filters are certified to meet stringent standards, such as the European Norm 1822 (also referred to as EN 1822) for filtration performance, and are identified with a certification number. Certified HEPA filters are also known as True or Absolute HEPA filters. European companies often refer to them as S-Class filters.

Originally developed for rating filtration systems for maintaining extremely clean environments in pharmaceutical, computer manufacturing, medical and other clean-critical facilities, certification using this standard assures you that the filter will perform as a true HEPA filter.

The EN 1822 is a two-part test. The first part of the test identifies the particle size that most easily penetrates the HEPA filter, to establish the “Most Penetrating Particle Size” or MPPS.

Once the MPPS is identified, the second part of the test challenges the filter ONLY with particles of the most penetrating size. If a filter can maintain 99.97% filtration under the very worst-case scenario, then you have a filter that delivers true HEPA filtration.

And because efficiency is strongly correlated to the speed at which the air passes through the filter, this test is done using the same rate of airflow as when the filter is in place and the vacuum cleaner is in use.

This is extremely important because all vacuum cleaners operate based on air flowing from the opening at the cleaning head, through the vacuum cleaner and the bag and filter system and then out the exhaust port. It makes sense then that HEPA filtration is achieved when the filter system (a filter or series of filters that can include the dust bag) retains 99.97% of particles as small as 0.3 micrometers.

If a HEPA filter is tested at less than the actual airflow it will be subjected to when the unit is being used, these small particles can simply blow right through the filter into the room air during normal operation. This is one way in which a filter that may actually be HEPA will not deliver HEPA filtration in the real world.

Certifying the Entire System

The next important question is whether or not all the air going into the vacuum cleaner actually passes through the filter system. If air leaks out of the vacuum before it is filtered, some percentage of those lung damaging particles and allergens that have settled on flooring and other surfaces are recirculated into the room air where the extremely light particles can circulate for hours. In this case, vacuuming can actually worsen the air quality in the home.

So not only is a HEPA filter certified using standard EN 1822 crucial, it is also important that the vacuum cleaner be extremely well sealed, so that air does not leak before the filter.

In order to deliver the highest levels of filtration in a sealed system there are now some vacuum cleaner manufacturers that use HEPA filters certified using the EN 1822 standard but they are also certifying the entire vacuum cleaner.

These manufacturers are offering proof positive that no air leaks before the filter and that all air that goes into the unit is HEPA filtered before it leaves.

Therefore, to protect your health and in situations where someone in your home is already suffering with a condition that can benefit from a true HEPA filtration vacuum cleaner, certified vacuum cleaners are the only way to obtain total assurance of HEPA filtration.

This doesn't mean that companies that do not certify the entire vacuum cleaner leak air before the filter but you have to use your judgment. The companies that offer certified vacuum cleaners also offer high quality models with certified HEPA filtration, even though the entire vacuum is not certified.

Look for heavy rubber seals where the housings come together, as well as other evidence of high quality construction, such as heavy-duty plastic that maintains its structural integrity.

When selecting vacuum cleaners where the whole machine is not certified, be sure that the HEPA filtration is tested and certified using the EN 1822 standard. This is a solid indication that you are dealing with a manufacturer that is serious about delivering true HEPA filtration.

If you choose a vacuum based on anything less than described above, you may or may not be getting HEPA (or anything close to HEPA) filtration. The minimum standard should be that the manufacturer makes a HEPA claim and states the filtration efficiency and particle size retained, so that you can be sure that it is actually the HEPA standard of 99.97% efficiency capturing particles as small as 0.3 micrometers.

Beware Misleading Tactics

Unfortunately, “creative” use of the term HEPA is rampant in the vacuum cleaner industry and we have seen so-called “True HEPA” claims on vacuum cleaners with no efficiency or particle sizes listed. And the rest of the claims they make in their advertising do not come close to true HEPA performance.

True, certified HEPA performance represents some design challenges to vacuum cleaner manufacturers. Creating a sealed system and dealing with the increased levels of airflow resistance of true HEPA filtration while maintaining outstanding cleaning performance require companies to meet very high standards of engineering, design and manufacturing. This is one of the main reasons that these vacuum cleaners cost more than mass-market products.

But a side benefit to products from these companies is that because they are so quality oriented they produce some of the very finest vacuum cleaners available that deliver outstanding cleaning performance and are a pleasure to use.

Some companies also produce very high filtration vacuum cleaners that do not reach HEPA levels, in order to deliver high filtration at a more affordable price. For example, one company offers filtration that retains 99.95% of particles down to 0.5 of a micrometer and 94% of particles down to 0.3 of a micrometer. And, many of these units can be upgraded to a true HEPA filter at any time. These vacuum cleaners can be an excellent value, delivering very high levels of filtration just shy of true HEPA.

Beware of the misleading tactics of many vacuum cleaner manufacturers. Some manufacturers play fast and loose with the term HEPA and make claims such as “traps 100% of dust mites, ragweed and common grass pollens”, with no mention of filtration efficiency or particle size. Manufacturers that make statements like this are counting on uneducated consumers choosing their product based on information that is misleading at best.

The reality is that dust mites do not cause allergic reactions; it is an allergen contained in their fecal material, which is very small. Dust mites themselves are generally about 125 micrometers long and most pollens are between 5 and 50 micrometers in size. These are huge particle sizes and nowhere near as small as the 0.3 micrometers required for true HEPA filtration. And, this claim is also on a machine that claims HEPA filtration but does not list filtration efficiency or particle size.

When evaluating vacuum cleaners that offer advanced filtration below HEPA, once again, look for specific efficiency and particle size ratings as well as a highly sealed housing so you can make an educated decision. If a manufacturer doesn't show these numbers you're better off somewhere else.

And, beware of companies that will state filtration efficiency without a particle size or a particle size without filtration efficiency. One without the other is meaningless.

In summary, filtration of fine particles can really improve indoor environmental conditions for people with allergies, asthma and other respiratory ailments as well as protect the health of everyone in your home.

The very best performance will be obtained by use of EN 1822 certified HEPA vacuum cleaners (the entire vacuum cleaner), followed by high quality, well sealed vacuum cleaners using EN 1822 certified HEPA filters. High filtration but less than HEPA vacuum cleaners made by reputable manufacturers may also be good choices but be sure to look for both filtration and particle size specifications in an extremely high quality product.
The idea of Best Vacuum began when Paul Teven was working for various Chicago-area appliance stores as a vacuum cleaner repair technician. In 1983 Paul opened his first vacuum store in Chicago. The types of indoor air pollutants that can be reduced or controlled by portable air purifiers fall into three major classes; particulate, gaseous and biological.

Over the past several years there is ever increasing scientific evidence that indoor air can become far more polluted than outdoor air—with concentrations from 2 to 5 times to as much as 100 times those found outdoors. Given that most people spend close to 90% of their time indoors, this means that the health risks posed by polluted indoor air may be significantly greater than those of outdoor air pollution.
Indoor Air Pollutants

Particle Air Pollutants in Indoor Air

The particles of greatest concern are those that are small enough to remain suspended in room air for extended periods, where they may be easily inhaled. These very small particles can reach the deepest recesses of the lungs where they can become lodged for extended times, causing acute or chronic effects.

The term "particle" refers to the size of the pollutant and particle pollutants may include solids, liquids (in the form of mists), organic and inorganic compounds, living and dormant organisms.

According to the U.S. EPA, these small particles may cause a wide range of extremely negative health effects such as, aggravated asthma, acute respiratory symptoms including aggravated coughing and painful or difficult breathing, eye, nose, and throat irritation, respiratory infections and chronic bronchitis, decreased lung function, shortness of breath and lung cancer.

And, for allergy sufferers, these very small particles may include all sorts of allergens, including dust mite feces, which contains an allergen that is thought to be responsible for a significant percentage of allergies worldwide. Serious and even life threatening allergic reactions can also be triggered by larger particles such as pollens, some molds and animal dander that may not penetrate as deeply into the lungs.

Having the cleanest possible indoor air is also important to asthma sufferers, many of whom can have asthma attacks triggered by exposure to a variety of allergens and other indoor pollutants.

The health effects from particles small enough to be respirable, known as lung damaging particles or LDPs, are dependent upon the types of particles in the environment, how concentrated they are, how often and how long a person is exposed to them and the individual's sensitivity.

Gaseous Air Pollutants in Indoor Air

There are also hundreds of different types of gaseous pollutants that have been found in indoor air. Some of these are combustion gases such as from tobacco smoke, combustion appliances such as heaters and stoves or from vehicle exhausts that enter the living space from attached garages or from outdoors.

Other gases enter indoor air from a wide variety of sources such as building materials, furnishings, cleaning compounds, air fresheners, paints, adhesives, solvents, caulks, personal care products, pesticides, waxes, craft and hobby materials, deodorizers, cooking, as well as the metabolic processes of plants, animals and humans.

Like particles, the health effect from exposure to gaseous pollutants depends upon the chemicals and their concentrations, how often and how long a person is exposed to them and the individual's sensitivity. Adverse health effects may include allergic reactions, asthma attacks, irritation of the eyes and/or respiratory tissues; effects on the liver and the respiratory, immune, cardiovascular, reproductive and/or nervous systems and cancer.

Biological Pollutants in Indoor Air

Biological pollutants are or were living organisms in the indoor environment. There are a wide variety of biological contaminants in indoor air including dust mites and their fecal matter, animal dander, cat saliva, molds, mildew, bacteria, pollen, viruses, bacteria, etc. These come from a number of sources such as plants, animals and humans and can be quite persistent in indoor air.

Many of these pollutants can be small enough to be inhaled and create the health problems caused by respirable particles as described above, while others can cause allergic reactions or be infectious or toxic in nature.

The many biological pollutants in indoor air can create a wide range of negative health effects. These include triggering allergic reactions and asthma attacks; the transmission of infectious diseases such as flu, measles and chicken pox; molds and mildews may release disease-causing toxins and biological pollutants may also cause numerous symptoms of non-specific health effects that may include coughing, sneezing, watery eyes, shortness of breath, dizziness, digestive problems, fever and lethargy.

Toxic microorganisms may also grow in home heating and cooling systems and humidifiers and cause very serious illnesses such as Legionella and humidifier fever. And, very serious illnesses such as tuberculosis, measles, staphylococcus infections, and influenza are known to be transmitted by air.

The idea of Best Vacuum began when Paul Teven was working for various Chicago-area appliance stores as a vacuum cleaner repair technician. In 1983 Paul opened his first vacuum store in Chicago. In 1995, Best Vacuum became one of the first brick-and-mortar stores to open a Web store.
This article is free for republishing
Source: http://www.articlealley.com/article_574255_27.html

Hotpoint - Story of the Uk's Best Selling Kitchen Appliances

Part of the Indesit group of companies, Hotpoint has been the best selling manufacturer of kitchen appliances in the UK for decades. Here we look at the background of the company and the products on offer today.

The Hotpoint Electric Heating Company was formed in 1911 and now Hotpoint is a household name for kitchen appliances such as dishwashers, fridge freezers and washing machines.

In 1920 Hotpoint and GElectric of the United States established the Hotpoint Electric Appliance Company Limited to market branded goods in the UK. In 1929, Hotpoint became a part of GEC group. Hotpoint was a brand of GEC and in 1989 merged into a new division named General Domestic Appliances. GE then purchased a 50% share, and in 1998 was to become GDA Applied Energy.

Hotpoint is now part owned by Merloni, founded by Aristide Merloni as Industrie Merloni in 1930. The company didn't originally produce appliances but soon created a range of appliances branded Ariston.

In 1985, Merloni bought Indesit, they were competitors in Italy at the time, but Merloni did not have the european presence that Indesit had gained. Back in 2005 Merloni was renamed Indesit Company, as Indesit was the most recognisable brand under their control.

Indesit Company had a 14% slice of the white goods market in 2007. This comprises of appliances like washers, dryers, refrigeration, dishwashers and built in products too. Ovens, hobs and cooker hoods are a large part of this market now, especially with the European trend of built-in kitchens becoming ever more popular.

Sales tipped €3.4 billion last year, and the group produced over 16 million kitchen appliances in over 30 markets around the world. The group is second only to Electrolux for production of appliances in Europe. They currently employ over seventeen thousand people.

The one thing that seems to keep Hotpoint at the top of the sales table is the ability they have to look after customers post-purchase. Many a brand has fallen down due to inadequate response times, poor timescales for service and repair, and high product failure rates. Playing to the economies of scale they benefit from, Hotpoint have over the years installed a dependable back-up network. More homes have a Hotpoint appliance than any other brand, and they back this up with the biggest after-sales service operation in Europe. With appliances having a life span of around 4 years on average, this is an important factor when today's consumers are making a considered purchase.

Hotpoint's current philosophy is about intelligent ideas, and the brand pushes the suggestion they combine 'advanced technologies with common sense'.

Another area that Hotpoint are concentrating on, is the environment. Every year they are building a reputation as a brand who are towards the front of innovation with regards to energy performance. Features such as A%2B in energy efficiency and Eco Cycles and settings help the consumer decide to take a Hotpoint model into their home. The Eco LED indicator on the Aqualtis washing machines will let you know if you have made energy savings of up to10% through modifying the temperature or spin speed of your selected wash cycle.

Some of the modern features of Hotpoint appliances include ideas like faster programmes than other manufacturers and silent operation. The new 'Baby Cycle' has been specially designed for stains associated with babies.

Mr Heneffe has worked in the Kitchen Appliances industry for over 10 years. In fact Smeg is one of the oldest brands available on the market today, and stays true to its Italian roots.

The reason most of us know Smeg is because of its long standing range of multi-coloured American 50’s style fridge freezers. Smeg fridges have accounted for the majority of sales for them over the last 30 years around Europe and beyond.

In 1948, Vittoria Bertazzoni founded Smeg. The company was then, and still is now based near the town of Guastalla, in the Reggio Emilia region of Italy. The letters of the word Smeg stand for Smalterie Metallurgiche Emiliane Guastalla metal enamelling factory in Guastalla, Reggio Emilia, and from conception the Smeg fridges became an instant hit. The design was even considered fashionable in Italy, which is obviously renowned for style and design flair.

Smeg is still under the control of the Bertazzoni family, and the company is currently run by Roberto Bertazzoni. Their trademark, "Tecnologia che arreda" translates as "Technology with Style" which is used as the header for their mission statement across the World. In fact, the brand travels very well and available in over 30 countries from France, Spain, the US and Australia.

The basic yet modern design of Smeg products give them a longevity not seen in other kitchen appliances from traditional brands. The classic and stylish looks have meant that they stay around much longer, and the fridge freezers are testament to this.

All Smeg products have many years of research behind them. The 15 year lifespan expected for the appliances comes through the in-house development, which is extensive considering the size of the company.

Smeg have recently launched a new range of flueless gas fires. Continuing the design ethos from the 50’s style refrigeration, these products are an extension to the Smeg range of designer appliances. They combine good looks with some very beneficial feature; no recess, chimney or flue required. Smeg’s flueless fires are designed to simply hang on any wall so the need for a chimney or hearth is no more. Flueless fires convert 100% of gas to heat reducing fuel costs, which contributes to a greener and friendly environment by utilising the latest in catalytic technology.
Other products in the Smeg line up include the Opera selection of range cookers and hobs, the ‘classic’ ovens and hobs and the Piano fridges, hobs and ovens. The Piano range are the top end of kitchen appliances and this is reflected in the price, but they are amongst the most stylish and beautiful appliances available today.
All Smeg models have a 2 years parts and labour guarantee, and there are currently (and more often than not) promotions running for a free 5 year warrant. This is usually on selected higher priced models, such as the new Smeg A4-6 120cm range cooker. It has a fish-burner on the hob which converts to a hot plate, and has twin 60cm ovens and 6 other gas burners.

Mr Heneffe has been a retailer of Smeg for over 10 yeras. Mr Heneffe shows a display of the new Smeg A4-6 and other Kitchen Appliances by Smeg
This article is free for republishing
Source: http://www.articlealley.com/article_571144_27.html

Modernize Your Kitchen With New Kitchen Appliances

Say goodbye to your outdated kitchen appliances and hello to the more efficient, eco-friendly and elegant kitchen you've always wanted!

Have you flipped through the pages of a home decorating magazine or visited the home of a friend and turned green with envy when you saw how sleek and modern today's kitchen appliances are becoming? From technology to décor, manufacturers are adding a variety of new features to make kitchen appliances more efficient, eco-friendly and elegant. Whether you want to replace an eyesore of a range for something more contemporary and stylish, or you're looking for a refrigerator that's designed to make better use of space, today's kitchen trends offer something to satisfy every customer's needs and desires.

High performance kitchen appliances are a necessity for modern households. If you're like most consumers, you often find that you're tight on time. You live a fast-paced life and you don't have time to hurry up and wait. These days, manufacturers are making kitchen appliances that work as hard and fast as their consumers do. High performance appliances can help consumers do everything from preparing their family's favorite meal to cleaning heavily soiled dishes in no time. Many households are now opting for restaurant-grade appliances, which are perfect for large families or family's that entertain often. Cooktops that incorporate induction technology use electromagnetic energy to increase temperature faster, while hot water dispensers installed under the sink, can deliver hot water for tea straight from the faucet, without the wait. And when it's time to clean the dishes after a large family meal, there are a number of dishwashers designed to get the job done faster and better than ever before. Features like steam cleaning use high temperature steam to give dishes a spot-free, hand-washed appearance, while dishwashers manufactured with smart sensors can determine how much water and power are needed to make dishes sparkling clean.

For consumers who are committed to doing their part to help protect the environment, eco-friendly kitchen appliances offer a number of ways to help save energy and save money. Traditionally, refrigerators have required more energy than any other kitchen appliance, greatly increasing the household energy bill. But now newly manufactured refrigerators are often designed to run on a low, constant speed, which is more energy efficient. There are also a number of "green" dishwashers that use less water for consumers concerned about conservation. Some dishwashers are even built with 100% recyclable parts so that when it's time to replace it, the parts can be re-used. There's a common misconception that eco-friendly kitchen appliances aren't stylishly designed and can take away from the modern look you may be trying to achieve. But actually, energy efficient kitchen appliances have come a long way in terms of design and aesthetics, which means you can still have the beautiful, modern kitchen appliances you want while conserving energy at the same time.

One of the most popular trends in kitchen design is the incorporation of integrated kitchen appliances to create a sleek, stylish and modern look. Some integrated kitchen appliances can be built into kitchen units, and camouflaged with modern cabinetry in a variety of colors, styles and contemporary finishes. Other integrated kitchen appliances are manufactured to seamlessly coordinate with new or existing kitchen designs. Imagine refrigerator drawers and a prep sink built into your kitchen island for easy access, or a specialty range designed to compliment the colors and theme of your dream kitchen.

Today's modern kitchen combines technology, design, versatility and unique style to create an inviting environment that you'll love to cook in and show off to friends. Don't hold on to outdated kitchen appliances that lack style and innovation and drive your energy bills through the roof. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) determined that most indoor air is three to five times dirtier than outdoor air. This startling revelation led to a boom in the production of air purifiers, but do they really work?

Most air purifiers remove airborne pollutants like mold spores, pollen, dust, bacteria, and pet dander. But determining whether an air purifier is effective is measured by its ability to capture particles and the amount of air it can process in a given time. Translation: If an air purifier can’t catch particles of all sizes and process enough air to make a difference, it’s probably not worth the cost of shipping.

The effectiveness of an air purifier is generally based on the effectiveness of its air filter. The American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) tests and certifies air filters, using a rating system to ensure accuracy. The first rating, Initial Staining Dirt Efficiency, measures how well the filter removes microscopic staining particles such as tobacco tar, allergens, and grease. The second rating, the Average Arrestance Test, determines the percentage of ordinary dust, hair, lint, and other large particulate matter removed. It’s important to know which rating is being used when comparing air purifiers.

The size of air contaminants like dust and pollen particles is measured by the micron. The human eye cannot see particles that are smaller than 10 microns, as one micron equals 1/25,400 of an inch. Particles like lint, dust, and pollen can all be seen by the human eye, but smaller contaminants like bacteria and viruses will escape the detection of our eyes and some filters. Finding a filter that will eliminate air impurities of all sizes is important to ensure the effectiveness of an air purifier.

HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) filters set the standard for effective air cleaning. HEPA filters have been tested and certified to remove particles that average 0.3 micron in size. Particles of this size are likely to be inhaled and deposited into the lungs and trigger allergic and asthmatic reactions.

To qualify as a true HEPA filter, the filter must remove at least 99.97% of airborne contaminants, including mold spores, dust, pollen, smoke, and pet dander. There are many generic "HEPA-like" filters on the market today; however, true HEPA filters are marked as such on their packaging and provide the most efficient filtration.

Most air purifiers on the market are tested and certified by the Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM), using the Clean Air Delivery Rate, or CADR. The CADR measures how many cubic feet per minute of air is cleared of certain size particles. Three particle sizes are rated: smoke (small), dust (medium), and pollen (large).

Rating air purifiers is simple: the higher the CADR rating, the less time the unit needs to remove a given quantity of particles from the specified size room. The room size is indicated on the packaging of the air purifier and all AHAM-certified models are marked with CADR data, as this information acts to distinguish each air purifier from its competitor. You can use the CADR ratings to determine which air purifier works best in your home.

As you can see, there are many standards and ratings requirements used for all air purifiers. These requirements are used to ensure that every consumer receives the benefits they’ve been guaranteed by the manufacturer. Air purifiers can’t guarantee the elimination of allergies or asthma. However, HEPA air purifiers can guarantee the elimination of harmful airborne contaminants.

So if you’re struggling with the decision of whether to buy an air purifier or which air purifier to buy, consider the large variety of HEPA air purifiers on the market. Find an air purifier that works for you and your family, and breathe easier knowing that you’re breathing clean air. Major home appliances are an expensive purchase item for most families and there are many areas of the home that require certain rhythms to be available, which could change dramatically if the wrong model is chosen. Families will pour over the models offered in a retail outlet and after a few hours, the group will be no closer to making a decision on an appliance than they were when they walked into the store.

To learn about the latest models on a big variety of home appliances, a homeowner might have to visit several stores. A large preview of home appliances by model can be viewed at home improvement stores. Due to the warehouse setting, there is likely to be more floor space available to place several models of one brand next to each other in a row. These home appliances are usually arranged in rows by brand and each brand will provide consumers with appliances that have different features. Each additional feature provided on a major appliance will have a dramatic effect on the priced paid at the register.

Apartment dwellers will shop for home appliances by model and size. Some apartments provide closets for washers and dryers. These small spaces will require home appliances that are a certain height, width, and length. The apartment resident might consider top loading washers due to space limitations, or select the models that are stacked, with the dryer on top. A front loading dryer would work out well in these small spaces, but the apartment dweller will also look at home appliances that feature dryer doors that open to the left or the right, depending on where the dryer vents are located, and where the water supply for the washer is located.

Shoppers will consider home appliances by model when there are discounts offered on certain brands. A ten percent discount could reduce the cost of a washer to that price on a lesser quality appliance made by the same manufacturer. The opportunity to save money continues when manufacturers give additional discounts if the shopper purchases a washer and dryer pair. Shoppers will often search for store discounts that will make some home appliances a better bargain. It is common practice for home improvement stores to offer generous amounts on gift cards if the shopper selects home appliances by model, and a certain pricing range.

Some homeowners will buy home appliances by model and by brand. In an effort to make all home appliances match, a homeowner will choose to buy the same brand year after year on any home appliance that stops working. Other homeowners will buy a particular brand based on which company is responsible for any repairs during the first year. Customers have the option of buy home appliances by model based on the warranties that are available on certain brands. Many homeowners believe that home appliances are an intricate factor in daily living and will purchase an extended warranty on the home appliance at the time of purchase.

About Author James Brown :

James Brown writes about http://www.homeappliancesdepot.com

Article Source: http://www.BharatBhasha.com
Article Url: http://www.bharatbhasha.com/home_improvement.php/83225

What Is The Best Bread Machine To Buy?

by Robin OBrien

If you don't know exactly what you want from your bread machine before you buy, you're almost sure to be disappointed with it. I want it to bake bread you say, but what sort of bread, how large a loaf, how quickly to bake, how many preprograms do you require, or do you want to program your own, and what is your budget? To find the best bread machine know what you want beforehand. Here's a review of popular models and what they offer.
Cheap Bread Machine

Just because you're on a budget doesn't mean you have to settle for something sub par. There are several excellent models on the market today that offer all the bake settings and other functions that will satisfy all but the most serious of home bakers.

Both the Sunbeam 5891 and the Toastmaster TBR15 bread maker are fine machines that offer excellent value for money. They both retail for a low price of around $40 but you get many programs to choose from. If counter space is limited then the TBR15 is ideal with measurements of 13"h x 13"w x 11.75"d; the 5891 is a little bigger at 12"h x 10"w x 14.5". However, the larger size of the Sunbeam is because it can bake either 1.5lb or 2lb loafs, whereas the maximum loaf size of the Toastmaster is 1.5lbs. The 5891 also has the edge on the number of programs available; 12 compare to 8. The programs include basic yeast breads, sweet breads, and express baking, to cakes, dough preparation, and jam. Both models offer an express bake program.

It's difficult to say which is the best out of the two, but because it offers more bake cycles and because it's overall styling is better, the Sunbeam bread machine is the one to go for.

Express Bake

Many want a bread machine because they want to bake fresh, wholesome bread fast. Just about all brands now offer an express bake cycle; from the most basic and cheap to the most feature-loaded, expensive models. But, if you're looking for a no fuss model that bakes most types of bread, at a reasonable cost then you should consider the Sunbeam 5891 mentioned above. However, if you can stretch to another $20 or so, take a look at the Oster 5838 ExpressBake bread maker. Its rounded corners and oval shape make this model very nice to look at and, as its name suggests, its biggest feature is its express bake cycle - fresh baked bread from start to finish in 58 minutes. Other features of this Oster bread machine include a 13 hour delay bake, 60 minute keep warm and a removable lid for easy cleaning.

Traditional Shaped Loaves

A lot of people are disappointed with bread makers because the loaf they bake doesn't have that long, rectangular shape of a traditionally baked loaf. This is because the bread pan is either vertical or a horizontal one that looks squarer more than rectangular. However, for those that like rectangular loaves, there are models that deliver. The Cuisinart CBK-200 is a bread machine that can bake 1, 1.5 or 2lb loaves and it comes with 16 program cycles, of which the low-carb and gluten free are worthy of mention. Also, it offers a special menu option that takes basic dough through several long, slow cool rises for chewier textures and rustic crusts. The machine is made with a brushed stainless steel casing with black trim; it has a very retro look - how something looks on the counter is a consideration for some.

The Zojirushi BBCC-X20 is another bread maker that makes excellent traditionally shaped loaves. Some consider this brand to be the Rolls-Royce of breadmakers. Its plastic casing and somewhat inelegant design should not put you off. It comes with a plethora of features including a special sourdough starter cycle. For those who wish to program their own bake cycles, the Zo machine offers 3 custom cycles - you have full control on the mixing, resting, kneading, baking and warming of the bread.

The Cuisinart is a lot cheaper of the two and is probably the best bet for those who want a very good machine with lots of features that produces nice rectangular loaves. But, if money isn't a issue then you should pay serious consideration to the Zojirushi bread machine.

The Best Bread Machine

This is difficult. Baking bread is as much art as it is science and all bakers are artists and all artists have strong opinions about the tools they use. But, it would be fair to say that all serious home bakers want a machine that is reliable and sturdy and will give many years service. It should also have many program cycles but it should also allow one to program in one's own baking cycles for maximum flexibility. And, above all, it should bake bread to perfection; every time.

The Zojirushi BBCCX20 mentioned above is such a machine. Another is the Breadman Ultimate. Like the Zo, it comes with a host of preprogrammed cycles; 35 in all with 300 sub programs. Its loaf shape isn't as pleasing as the Zo, but it offers more features. For starts, you get a 24 hour delay timer rather than the paltry 13 hours of the Zojirushi. You also get a longer power failure backup of 60 minutes. But, what is really a big selling point of the Breadman bread machine is its patented 'x-tras' dispenser. This means you can put in your extra ingredients, like fruit that is added in later after the first mix, right at the beginning along with the rest of the ingredients. This breadmaker really does do it all.

Personally, I vote for the Breadman as being the best bread machine, though I'm sure there are many who would disagree. But, whichever is best for you depends on knowing what it is you want before you buy; think deeply, buy wisely and bake contentedly.
http://www.goarticles.com/cgi-bin/showa.cgi?C=992056

About the Author

Follow the links for the best bread machine whether it's a Breadman bread machine, Zojirushi bread machine or other.

Kitchen Equipment and Appliances

Homemakers have been mistaken to lead an easy life, in fact they have always longed for one.
