I am disappointed to hear that Carlin came to such misguided assumptions. A recent profile in the NY Times was rather favorable, and I have always had a certain respect for his comedic ability.<br /><br />However, I have lived in LAS VEGAS for more than ten years, having been born and raised in Jersey City, New Jersey. Most people, East or West will agree thatit doesn't get much more "real" than Jersey City. Well, what I will tell you in no uncertain terms is that Las Vegas is one of the single greatest places on the planet. This will include residents and tourists alike. All you need to do is visit Caesar's Palace pool, or Mandalay Bay wave pool on any given weekend during the months when it is warm, and you will see a complete cross section of people from every corner of the globe. One thing they all have in common is that they are enjoying their visit to Las Vegas. Kids are smiling and playing on rafts or in the waves, young people single and couples are chatting amiable in groups, and of course the entire weekend takes place bathed in the best weather on earth. Itis sunny, and happy, and sexy, and fun. What I will also tell you is that we have a local community filled with caring, dedicated teachers, policeman, firefighters, military personnel, and extremely dedicated and capable Casino/ Hospitality professionals who have grown this brand we call Las Vegas to the most recognizable and successful product of its kind unlike any other destination resort.<br /><br />I am proud that my son Michael Patrick was born hereat ST. Rose Dominican Hospital in 1997, and he and his sister Olivia Frances born in San Diego in 1995, are Honor Students in the Clark County School system. They have been the beneficiaries of some of the finest teachers I have ever known anywhere, and we love them for helping us to grow and learn and prosper.<br /><br />Mr. Carlin is sadly mistaken in his comments. He has always had a certain bitterness to his act, and his wife passed not long ago, so we will overlook his tirade for the moment. <br /><br />As you so well point out, Mr. Carlin is not averse to being paid for his performances in front of an audience that is here not solely to see him, but as part of an overall experience he exploits while professing to abhor.
