And i'm glad it's almost over. Almost, but not quite yet. I even WOKE UP feeling moody. I've to fly to KL on Sunday for work, and back again on Weds. We haven't even been given our tickets yet!

It seems that all the stuff I'm looking fwd to has to be pushed back yet again. I've got too much to do in so little time. Again I say, I need a holiday!

One thing that cheered me up today though.. I received my business cards for BRIDEX. They're so cool and I'm so pleased! =D hehehe It's quite depressing to think that something small like that could make me happy.. sigh.

I want shisha tonight. Who'd like to join me?

Rachyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04753573300183377938noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8735873508488510095.post-24240998921301133692008-04-06T18:30:00.004+08:002008-04-06T20:13:49.182+08:00Not long to goI just realised something today. Even though I've been stressing myself out trying to finish my thesis in 3 wks (mmhmm, date was confirmed with very short notice.. I couldn't believe it when I heard it), trying to juggle work at the same time, and hardly having time for myself... I'm actually content.

Of course there's the odd "I want.." (usually followed by 'shoes') and "I wish.." but I'm pretty ok right now. Considering.

One thing I always wish for though.. more time. I'm constantly feeling like time's passing too quickly. And I never have enough for myself, much less for my friends. I've alot of pending lunches and steak dinners which I haven't got round too yet. I'm hoping that after my thesis deadline and that trip to KL this mth, it'll be a little more quiet. Then I can use the time to catch up. =)

Oh, I CAN'T WAIT till I pass my probation. I so need a break.

Even a short trip some place close for a bit of shopping would be nice. Should take Puppy's advice and go on a food holiday. One of the best ideas ever, I say.

Rachyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04753573300183377938noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8735873508488510095.post-61923998840482626492008-03-24T10:44:00.005+08:002008-03-24T16:09:42.373+08:00CongratulationsFirst, to Leny and Hil who got engaged on the 14th of March.

And also to Choochie and Nol who got engaged yesterday.

I love you guys and I'm very happy for you. =) I cant wait till the weddings!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Nas tagged me so...
A) LIST OUT THE TOP 5 PRESENTS YOU WISH FOR :
1- Happiness
2- Motivation
3- A good longggg break
4- A good party!
5- More time
B) THE PERSON WHO TAGGED ME IS: Nasroul
C) YOUR 5 IMPRESSIONS OF HIM/HER:
1- Responsible
2- Sarcastic
3- LOUD
4- Outgoing
5- Creative
D) MOST MEMORABLE THINGS HE/SHE HAS GIVE/DONE FOR YOU->
Top tips, the company of a good friend, AND he let us run amok in his apartment with paint!
E) THE MOST MEMORABLE WORDS HE/SHE SAID TO YOU ->
Too many to recall just one phrase..
F) IF HE/SHE BECOMES YOUR LOVER, YOU WILL ->
Prolly be driven crazy by the maniacal laugh.
G) IF HE/SHE BECOMES YOUR ENEMY, THE REASON WILL BE ->
That I have talked trash about his lovely self and I have stolen his hot boyfriend. hehe
H) PASS THE QUIZ TO 5 PEOPLE THAT YOU WISH TO KNOW HOW THEY FEEL ABOUT YOU:
1)Hooch
2)Mia
3)Celia
4)Philip
5)Fahmi
1. I apologise for not informing all of you.. you deserved to know as he was your friend too. Just understand that I've had a lot on my mind and so much has been happening at once. I wasn't thinking.. I only called those who Philip specifically asked me to call. It's been a difficult few days and a huge blow to us. Again, I'm sorry to those who I din't inform directly.
Danny's family chose to have his funeral earlier today. It was a bit of a rush because as soon as he was released to his family, they decided to have the funeral straight away instead of waiting. I wouldn't have known had we not been calling his family constantly.
As a result, many were not able to make it. I'm very grateful to Yong who accompanied me to Tutong. Had to rush like crazy and then it took us ages to find the place as we aren't familiar with the area, but eventually we managed to get directions from relatives at the house. And regardless of the fact that we were very late due to the driving round in circles, we made it to the cemetery before the burial.
Although the family opened the casket to say their last goodbyes, I didn't want to look. I want to remember Danny the way he was. The smiley face he always had.. nothing else. He was finally laid to rest, and after a few words with his dad, we left.
It may not have been much but it was very important to me to be there. For myself and on behalf of Puppy. To say my goodbyes and to tell him that although Puppy and Zrin couldn't be there, that we'd come back again to see him soon. As Puppy says, Danny knows well enough about the system to know that they wouldn't be released to see him.
I know you guys abroad are concerned, but don't worry too much. We all just need some time and I'll keep in touch. Be well, it's ok to start healing.
Very few will understand this, but.. Remember the Tapir.
Rachyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04753573300183377938noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8735873508488510095.post-67273520836085866962008-03-10T09:24:00.009+08:002008-03-10T21:18:18.942+08:00Danny Liew 1983 - 2008Our dear friend Daniel Liew passed away yesterday at 2.15am, due to a tragic car accident in Kota Batu. I was just as shocked as everyone else to hear of the news. I wasn't even aware that he was back home.. I may not have known him as long as I'd have liked, but I cry my tears all the same.
The thought that I won't hear his contagious everything-is-funny-even-though-it's-not-really laugh, or again experience his quirk of saying things wrong thinking they're right, or just seeing him out and about with Puppy.. the thought is very hard to swallow.
I've had to relay the news to some of our friends and it doesnt get any easier. I've had to repeat myself till I tire of it, and even then I still hear the disbelief in their voices.
Tons called to tell me the details and as painful as they were to hear, it's good to know what happened. I'm thankful she was there at the time and Danny wasn't alone.
We had many memorable (and hilarious) moments with Danny. But the one memory that keeps playing in my mind is when I first got to talk to him even though I barely knew him at the time. It was the day of Non's sanding and we were driving to his bride's house. Puppy was with one of the other girls so I had to ride with Dan. God knows what we talked about.. we hardly knew each other, but we managed it. We complained constantly of the heat. And I laughed my head off when Danny backed into a plastic chair while trying to park, and managed to break it.
I remember going to the beach and enduring the REALLY bumpy ride Puppy and Dan took me on. There was also the time I waited in the car while they checked out remote control cars. They dragged me on many an adventure, those boys.
I'm very grateful to have known such a sweet unassuming person, someone who would play along with anything and have our backs unconditionally.
My heart goes out to Danny's family, as well as his friends, but also especially to Puppy.
I know you loved him and I can't imagine him not being around either. When it finally hits you, I'll be here for you. Thank you for introducing him to the crew. We loved his company and I know the boys, specially Hil and Pol, are still talking about Danny and his fireworks. He's alot to live up to. =] Don't worry, we'll make that date to go visit him once you and Zrin are home. Be safe, I miss you and I wish you were here..
My deepest sympathy and condolences to the family and friends who knew him. I hope you heal and take comfort in knowing that Danny not only enjoyed life, he lived it to the fullest.
Dan, we shall miss you immensely but we know you're in a better place now. Like Zrin said, the roads won't be the same without you.. and Pip's message is "You did a DANNY". We know only a few will appreciate that, but especially you. =) Rest in peace and don't cause too much trouble where you are, right? We love you. xoxo
Rachyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04753573300183377938noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8735873508488510095.post-22597861609085132492008-03-07T10:52:00.008+08:002008-03-08T12:38:54.381+08:00Fluffy Bedtime BearIt's amazing how just a couple hours of feeding my tummy and lighthearted chitchat does so much for my mood. =)
It's been a long tiring week and last night I got to satisfy my craving for Japanese food. That, plus the company of my dear Monkeybum was enough to wake me up this morning feeling, for the first time this week, ready to face the world. But then maybe it's also because plying me with good food always makes me sleepy so I probably got a good night's rest due to that as well. hehe
One craving down, at least 4 more to go.
Rachyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04753573300183377938noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8735873508488510095.post-1659414070765732452008-02-15T11:24:00.003+08:002008-02-15T15:28:36.475+08:00Month of RedHappy Chinese New Year to everyone =)
My greetings come a bit late, but the festive season isn't over yet so I still have time.
Also, Happy Belated Valentine's! I don't usually celebrate it.. my VDay's have always been spent with friends over dinner and a movie. But I still got my flowers and candy surprise. At work nonetheless. =) Hope the rest of you had a good day whichever way you spent it.
Work has been hectic and I've been keeping myself busy (actually my boss makes sure of that). 3 of us are off to S'pore tomorrow morning for 10 days. Expected to work 24/7 but at least the allowance is good. I won't be around for Chap Goh Mei though.
My brother just got home yesterday.. but from tomorrow, I won't be around. And the day I fly back, is the day he leaves again. Like an hour before I'm due to land. =/ Hardly any time together this trip, but not like he spends alot of time at home anyway. He's usually out with the girls, out with the boys.
Short post from me today, got some work to finish off before I can get other stuff done.
Would be nice to have a few more hours everyday.
Rachyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04753573300183377938noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8735873508488510095.post-30987083508353405692008-02-03T00:14:00.001+08:002008-02-03T00:19:08.835+08:00Curly-haired SmileyToday, three people told me I seem to have put on weight.
They completely made my weekend. =D
Rachyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04753573300183377938noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8735873508488510095.post-15159265810118499712008-02-01T10:18:00.000+08:002008-02-01T11:23:40.296+08:002008For the benefit of Lion and Cindy, here I am. hehe
I haven't had the motivation to blog. And when I do, I'm too tired/lazy. Takes too much effort.
January's come and gone. =) I've passed my exams (FINALLY! Just one thesis left) and started work. =) It's been a month and I'm settling in alright. The cool thing is I get to fly out to S'pore next mth for the Singapore Airshow we're participating in. Can't wait to see what that's like. I'm looking forward to the airshows.
My social life, however, has suffered badly. It's seldom I get to leave work on time, and by the time I get home, all I wanna do is eat, shower and sleep. Even when I was working in Baiduri, I still had the energy to see my friends. Things sure have changed. =/
Yes, tis growing up. I'm gonna try meet up DC and Hippo tonite though.. and maybe I can convince my White Choc to come out too. That's if I decide not to go to this reception ABDB's holding at ICC. Don't think my boss is going, so I'm safe. hehe
CNY is next wk!! It dint hit me till yesterday. I've heard really loud CNY music being played at Hua Ho next door (my window's right above their tent) but you get used to it and all you think is, yeah it's cos CNY's coming. But now it's NEXT WEEK!
I went on a crazy shopping spree last wkend when I flew out with my parents. Armloads of shoes and clothes for CNY and work. Mostly work. But i'm satisfied.. wont be in a panic to decide what to wear. =)
Ok, this may be abrupt, but i'm bored now. So I'm gonna go finish off some work before I head off for lunch. Later!
Rachyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04753573300183377938noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8735873508488510095.post-86348972763599738762007-12-28T14:41:00.000+08:002007-12-28T15:15:05.434+08:00Zachary the PenguinChristmas has come and gone (thank you for the presents!), and we're 3 days away from 2008.
And still I have been too lazy to post.
I've been trying to make full use of my holiday, but that's proving difficult. Having thought we'd gotten through the endless reports, we were asked to rewrite the final one. Of course, I could've finished it in a few hours (I did that yesterday) but I am such a procrastinator.
My aunt and cousins are also visiting from Perth. I find it irritating when my mum tells me at the last minute that we have to go out for meals because they're here. But what can I do, they're still family and my cousins hardly ever come to visit.
There are still a few things I've been putting off. Decluttering and cleaning out my room, getting back into yoga (sorry Nora!) and organizing my study things. When I stay at home, I get lazy. Meaning I should go out more. hehe
The Mister's going away tomorrow with the boys over New Year's for his best friend's stag night. I hope they have the bestest time. =) Almost everyone I've spoken to have plans for NYE.. alot of them are heading to KK while those staying here have something planned. Heck, even my parents have some place to go. And me? I'm staying in the country AND have nothing to do. Someone mentioned something about hanging out at Phoenix and White Hamster's.
I never really thought about where this year went until one of the girls mentioned it. She's right.. I hardly felt it. But alot happened. Most of it was good. I've just finished my final semester of uni. Most friendships got stronger. Many BH residents got married. My best friend got engaged. God, everyone's getting married. Even more weddings next year.. yes, invites have already started coming in.
I can't tell what the new year will bring, but I'm telling myself it will be even better than this year. =) So here's hoping 2008 brings you good things too.
An advanced 'Happy New Year' to everyone!
Rachyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04753573300183377938noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8735873508488510095.post-57516542167510203722007-12-14T12:20:00.000+08:002007-12-14T12:31:53.521+08:00Her timing is impeccableYou are spontaneous and love kisses and affection from the one you love. Nevertheless, I've one more to go. It's the longest 3 wks of my life.
I'm back in the Land of the Living. Last night, at least. Felt strange to get dressed up and drive out without the aim of running errands or rushing to uni for an exam. I haven't seen my friends in over two weeks.. but managed to catch up for a couple hrs with two of the boys (the 3rd joined us later), during which, strange quips of conversation ensued.
R: Mataku gatal..
H: *5 seconds later* What did you say tadi? Apa yang gatal?
R: "Mataku gatal"
H: Oh... thought you said "Aku gatal"..
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

H: Panas tadi ah, kami punya chiller rosak.
P: Apa?? Your CINA rosak??

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
R: I ordered Marisei but I think they don't have it. She gave me something that she says "is like Marisei, but isn't Marisei". It's not too bad though.. different. Try it.
P: *after tasting* R, it's OREGANO WATER!! Or Oregano Juice.
R: WHAT?! You just killed it for me.
Z: *tries some too* Tastes like herb water.
H: Eh? Tadi ku cuba, ada macam strawberry.
R: ......
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

P: Where's Paddington Bear from? Deepest Peru.. it says so in the song.
R: Really? I didn't know that.. I would've said England 'cos he's got his English accent.
P: Let's ask H. (Oh i feel so guilty)

The ISB car boot sale, from 6.30am until noon, went well. I was up by 5.30am (on a sunday, no less!) and there in an hr. It rained the whole morning and by the time we left, i was completely cold and drenched through.

The ladies came with lots of merchandise. I was tempted to buy a few items myself but was so spoilt for choice that i ended up not buying anything at all! The workmanship is lovely. I think one of our first customers was a man who was returning to Europe so he bought quite a few things to bring home as gifts.

As we werent allowed to get involved in sales, we had time to wander around and look at the wares on offer. I love these kindsa sales. =) Managed to buy 6 books for $11 and a huge mug. hehe

Regardless of the rain, there was a really good turnout and i think the Tutong ladies were quite happy with how much attention they attracted and the amount they sold. In observing how the car boot sale went, we learned alot and can now get back to preparing our report. I'm sure my colleagues enjoyed the experience as much as i did.

A big thank you to everyone who came for a look and to support these lower income ppl. =) It's much appreciated. I cant wait for the next sale!

Rachyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04753573300183377938noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8735873508488510095.post-35418955874943486712007-11-13T11:37:00.000+08:002007-11-20T12:00:25.618+08:0011.11.2007Congratulations to my darlingest, most loved friends.. I'm not putting up the picture I have of the 2 of them. It's gorgeous.. but I dont have permission to have it here. You can find it in the online albums though.

Congratulations on your engagement.. I know you have the most love and happiness now, and in the future you will share. I've never been happier for you and I couldn't ask for anything more. =)

Syg, after all we've been through.. I can now say, FINALLY! hehehe Can you imagine the running around and tension and excitement of your engagement, times 5? Cos that's what it'll be like for the wedding! Don't worry.. i'll be there through it all. Including the griping and whingeing and smiles and giggling with u. I couldnt be happier for you and Mal. I love you guys. xoxo

Rachyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04753573300183377938noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8735873508488510095.post-35946151006116044032007-11-08T15:07:00.000+08:002007-11-08T15:44:38.362+08:00ISB Car Boot Sale

As i mentioned before in a previous blog, part of our Microfinance Project for uni is to help the craftspeople of Tutong in promoting their handicraft products. Creating some exposure for them, so to speak. We're hoping they'll work towards supplying for gift stores and hotels.

ISB is having a Car Boot Sale next Sunday (18th Nov 2007), and they have kindly provided us with space for this project. Please come by and have a look if you're interested. There will be handwoven baskets (as can be seen in our poster) and the like, for sale. And also, stuffed pillows/animals which are the cutest things ever. They're covered in soft felt and hand-washable. You should see the stitching on them.. I've got one of those pillows in my car actually. hehe

If you have any questions, my classmates and I will be milling around during the event. That's us in the middle picture although it's pretty much just dots of colour. Biggest thanks to Anne who helped design our poster. Hopefully we'll see u next wkend. =)

I just love finding odds and ends in garage sales and all that. Not surprising that my favourite places ever include Portobello Market and Covent Garden. I do miss spending hrs just walking around and checking out the stuff ppl find to sell. Doesnt matter if i end up buying nothing. It's just such a rush. May have bought the Rebel his birthday JD glassware from Portebello on one such trip.

Yesterday I brought Meow along with me to OGH where the BCL (British Community Link) ladies were having their Festive Fayre. Posh garage sale, we described it as. I very much enjoyed it.. ended up buying a few bits here and there. Meow seemed to enjoy herself as well. She bought clothes, and earrings, and 2 Xmas mice. Oh, dont get her started on the mice. I admit they're adorable.. one holds a gingerbread man and the other holds a wreath. But dont ask her abt them. She'll tell u all abt waking up to them both staring at her and her thinking she heard them singing "Silent Night". I think she has rodents on the brain.

Rachyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04753573300183377938noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8735873508488510095.post-82414600620316688332007-11-01T18:47:00.000+08:002007-11-01T20:13:56.985+08:00Milkshake and FriesDarn cravings.. think it's been a mth now. I have to get me some quality milkshake. Can someone please tell me why it's unavailable at McD's?

Turns out i like to torment myself with watching hours and hours of the Food Channel. I love food and appreciate that other ppl do too... but it isnt fun to watch (and drool over) yummy dishes being put together, then realising all i'm having for dinner is indomee. =/ lol

Big wave to the Her Royal Sugary Sweetness. I'll put u on my links as soon as i get this mess that is my blog page, fixed. =)

So the Raya hype has relaxed a little bit. Are there still any Open Houses out there? I went thru 20 houses in my first 2 days. And then after that it was 2-3 each day, which was alright. Think my last 2 were on Sunday.. thanks to everyone who invited me over. =)

Ok, i've been talking abt these to anyone who will listen. hehe I wonder if Bubu and i get some form of commission. hehe =P

Thanks to one of the lovely ladies at She Shoots for sending me the above advert. I know it's a bit small, but if ure fussy and cant see the detail, either visit their site, or let me know and i'll put up bigger pictures. These tshirts are available in white, cream or baby blue. I think they're so cute, and i've already ordered mine. =)

I think i'll be cancelling my trip in Dec. Just because it's "festivities month", prices of accommodation and air tickets have gone up. Makes more sense for me to travel in Jan. I dont actually mind a quiet New Yrs at home.. we shall see.

Before i forget, thank you Ducky (and HEyes) for the gorgeous gifts. I love. =)

And congratulations to Mr & Mrs Wombat. ;)

Forgive me, my thoughts are quite random today.

Rachyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04753573300183377938noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8735873508488510095.post-12065818574427685522007-10-17T12:00:00.000+08:002007-10-17T12:10:34.749+08:00WhatevaaaPeng sent me this days ago and i thought i'd share. hehe.. for the bimbo in all of us. =D

And to placate my recent obsession with cupcakes (I just dont have time to make them!!), I'd like to share this link with you. Introducing Ms Adrina, Cupcake Queen. She used to be one of my substitute teachers who taught English in MS, way back when. She brought an honest-open-devil-may-care attitude into class that i found so refreshing. It's nice to know that we now share a love of baking. =)

And now, enough of procrastinating from work. I've been doing that for the past few days of raya, and i'm going to pay dearly for it if i dont get some work done now. Cant afford to slack off, yet that's EXACTLY what i'd like to do!

Rachyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04753573300183377938noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8735873508488510095.post-29536513311015926062007-10-13T21:33:00.000+08:002007-10-13T22:09:51.594+08:00Raya 2007Selamat Hari Raya to all my Muslim readers, friends and family.. Maaf Zahir dan Batin.

I hope everyone's having the best time with friends and family. =) I must say the buildup to Raya was somehow filled with many disappointments for my friends and I. But im sure everyone's doing alot better now, regardless. Was an ok day for me.. but a little slow. Always happens on the first day.. tomorrow will be extra busy cos i got more invites today. Upside is that my friends are the children of my parents' friends. Saves alot of time..

I got to meet my new nephew today. =D He's the sweetest thing with a hair-tugging habit. heheh My Nini Sue warned me a couple mins too late abt that and i got to experience a little of it. He's got the loveliest eyes though.. big and round with the longest lashes. He looks so much like his gorgeous mommy. =)

Ooh I also received an invite today... not for Raya, but for a wedding! One of my gfs i've known since my MS days got married in Kuching a couple weeks ago, and she's having her reception in Bru next wkend. I'm looking fwd to it but it will also mean i'll need to rearrange my schedule in order to accommodate the open houses i plan on attending.. one of which is Lion's.

Im extremely dehydrated so i shall make this short.. i want to dry my hair and go to bed. Tomorrow's a brand new busy day. =) Enjoy the wkend to the fullest!!

Rachyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04753573300183377938noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8735873508488510095.post-59924082296363113322007-10-04T17:53:00.000+08:002007-10-04T17:55:18.664+08:00Happy Bday Lease

I've always loved this one, hope u do too.

Much love, babes. =)

P.S.: Prolly not all the words in the song apply to you. hehe

Rachyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04753573300183377938noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8735873508488510095.post-78023706372075730842007-10-02T11:47:00.000+08:002007-10-02T12:03:24.749+08:00My 3 Best GirlsI really need to get these blog settings fixed. I dint touch my template so maybe my hostess deleted some stuff that accidently affected my space here. I havent felt like posting cos it looks such a mess.. just kills my mood.

But i think it's abt time, it's been a mth! Nothing much is different though.. schoolwork, day in day out routines.. same old.

One thing has changed though. All that planning finally came through.. such a relief. I cant say anything else abt it though. Not my story to tell, but u'll find out soon enough.

Uni's getting a bit crazy. So much work, so many diff things to do.. and so very little time. My last semester wasnt sposed to be this way. Assignment on top of assignment, thesis work, tutong project, exams.. time's floating by too quickly. And *fingers crossed* everything will be done with in Dec. Lots of luck and love to Hippo who's going thru the same thing.

Happy Belated Birthday to my darling Lion. I hope u enjoyed ur day(s) and cake(s). heheh Your gift is coming, it's still flying over.. be patient. ;) Wait till u see it! I'd have kept it for myself but it was meant for u. heehee I love you!

Also Happy Birthday to Miss Fox of the Buttercup kind. =)

I need to get back to work. And try to ignore that little DVD boxset sitting there crying out to me. Season 6 of 24. I've waited ages for this. But what timing. haha Thanks Lion.

Rachyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04753573300183377938noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8735873508488510095.post-68991428477783568062007-09-10T13:23:00.001+08:002007-09-10T14:42:34.343+08:00BeerI was just thinking abt one of my friends, and how i couldnt see her on sat night. But even less fortunate (or more, depending on how u see it), i started thinking abt beer. Mustve been those border runs that have associated thoughts of her with thoughts of beer, in my head.

And so, remembering reading this on the internet (this man certainly put alot of thought into it), i share it with u.. on behalf of that friend of mine. ;)

I dont know how accurate these are, or if they really work. And some of them are just plain weird. But feel free to try any of them out. I hold no responsibility on ur actions, or any consequences of those actions. hehe

32 THINGS YOU CAN DO WITH BEER

1. Bathe In It
Try pouring a bottle of German Badebier in the bathtub and soak in it. The yeast soothes the skin and leaves it feeling smooth and luxurious. Of course, u'll end up smelling like fresh bread.

2. Put Out A Fire
Beer is mostly water and works almost as well as fire extinguishers on small grill flare-ups or car engine fires. Just shake and spritz.

3. Marinate Meat
Beer is acidic and so, is an excellent meat tenderizer. Just poke a few holes in the meat and leave them to sit in the fridge in some beer for a few hours, or even better, overnight. Do not drink the marinade.
[I've found that 7up works just as well. Just be forewarned that the meat may be a little sweeter than u expect]

4. Polish Pots
The acidity does wonders on copper.

5. Make Beer Barbecue Sauce
Can be used to baste anything u fancy. Please leave a msg for the recipe.

6. Shampoo Hair
Great for adding shine and lustre to dull hair. Bring a cup of it to boil over medium heat. Let it reduce till only 1/4 cup is left. That way, it removes the alcohol, which is drying to hair. Let cool and add to a cup of ur favourite shampoo. Then lather up and rinse.
[This i've got to try]

7. Loosen Rusty Bolts
Pour some beer on them and leave for a few minutes. The carbonation may help to break up the rust.

8. Clear Up Brown Spots On Your Lawn
Apparently the fermented sugar in beer stimulates plant growth and kill fungi. Just spray on those brown patches in the garden.

9. Steam Clams Or Mussels
Bring equal parts water and beer to a boil before steaming the little mollusks till their shells open.
[Sounds good.. and i know just the darlings who will try this out with me]

10. Pass A Kidney Stone
Beer acts as a diuretic and flushes the kidneys and bladder. Helps if ure trying to pass a kidney stone. Water and cranberry juice are good, but beer works too. Takes the edge off of the pain as well, obviously, as ure trying to pass a kidney stone. =/ But don't drink beer if you're taking antibiotics or narcotic pain medications. You'll just render the drugs useless and make yourself sick.

11. Boil Shrimp
Seasoning added and it works for lobster as well.
[This i would try as well]

12. Kill Slugs
Gather together a couple of empty jars, and fill them 1/3 with cheap beer. Then bury them abt 15 feet from ur garden or whatever ure trying to protect. Make sure the rims are almost level with the soil surface. For some reason, slugs love beer. They'll find the traps, drop in, and drown. Do this in the evening, let them party all night, and give them an honourable burial in the morning.

13. Find Due North
Okay, here's the scenario. A bit far-fetched but who knows, might work. Let's say you're hopelessly lost in the wilderness, and all you have is a can of beer, a sewing needle, a small bowl, and a pair of extra-large silk panties. First, open the beer, pour some into the bowl, and let it go flat. (Better drink the rest; this may not work.) Next, magnetize the needle by stroking it repeatedly in one direction with the panties. This will generate a charge of static electricity. Then float the needle in the beer. When it stops, it'll be pointing in a north-south direction.
[lol.. should be fun to watch someone try]

14. Soothe Tired Feet
Pour a couple of cold ones into a bucket and soak your dogs. "Ice-cold beer with lots of carbonation can be soothing for tired feet," says Dr. Alexander.
[hmm...]

15. Make A Beer Slide
Forget volleyball and croquet. At your next party, lay a large vinyl tarp on a slope, then make it slick with lots of beer. Have your friends strip down to their underwear or swim trunks, get a running start, and slide downhill on their butts.
[okay i dont think that idea appeals to me.. i am however, able to picture certain guys who were there to celebrate my bday with me, doing just that. And having the best time, at that]

16. Lower Your Blood Pressure
A handful of dried hops or hops pellets are put in a coffeemaker and brewed with hot water. It makes for a bitter tea, but apparently it brings blood pressure down by dilating the capillaries. We don't advocate this as a replacement for medication, though.

17. Trick A Cheap Landlord
Live in an apartment where the landlord pays the heat bill and sets the thermostat pretty low? Ice up a can of beer in the freezer, then set it atop the lockbox that encloses the thermostat. The cold from the beer will trick the thermostat into thinking the temperature has dropped so it'll turn the heat on.
[hahahaha wth]

18. Bake Beer Bread
A healthful, foolproof recipe for high-fibre beer bread. Again, please leave a msg if you'd like the recipe.

19. Catch Mice
Slugs aren't the only pests with a fatal attraction to beer. Seems that you can also trap mice with it. Set out a few small pails or bowls of beer with a small ramp leading up to the lip. The mice will be attracted by the smell, hop in, drink their fill, then be unable to climb out.
[heh If i tried this, my mum would just make me go clear up the carcasses]

20. Tie A Fly
For fishing, of course. This tip is from the book Curiosities of Ale and Beer, published in 1889 [!!] Mix beer, chimney soot, walnut leaves, and a little powdered alum in a small pot. Bring to a boil, then chill. Dipping any natural materials you're using in this solution prior to tying is supposed to make for a tighter, more attractive fly. No promises as to whether it will catch more fish, though.

21. Cure Insomnia
Greg Smith, author of The Beer Drinker's Bible [nice to know there are such books out there], says women often show up at his brewery asking to buy not his beer but the hops he uses to brew it. "They sew it into pillows," he explains. "The smell of it is supposed to be a sleep aid, especially for colicky babies. I've never tried it, but we get enough requests that there must be something to it." Hops is a type of flower, though, so be careful if you have allergies.
[hmm.. maybe they have something there]

22. Massage Yourself
According to a certified massage therapist, a full can of beer is a great self-massage tool. For instance, you can take off your shoes and roll a can underfoot. Or put one in the crook of your back or between your shoulder blades and lean back against a wall, rolling it around as you do so. It works just about anywhere — quads, glutes, neck, calves. The pressure loosens up muscle tissue and encourages bloodflow to the area.
[I suppose any drinks can can be used the same way..]

23. Calm An Upset Stomach
Sipping on a highly carbonated beer can settle a stomach just like a 7up or Coke can. Plus, the alcohol helps buffer pain. The only time you have to be careful is if you have an ulcer or gastritis. Alcohol can inflame that.
[I thought gassy drinks give u an upset stomach..]

24. Build Your Next Home
Earthship, a house in New Mexico, has walls made of empty beer cans and concrete. Instead of using forms for the cement, builders put down alternating layers of mortar and cans. You can do the same to create retaining walls for gardens and other landscaping. Earthship also contains a thermal-mass refrigerator that uses full cans of beer as insulation. The cans line the walls of the unit, helping keep the temperature constant while minimizing energy usage. A ceiling vent allows frigid desert air to flow in during the night. The beer absorbs this cold, but never freezes because of its alcohol content. When the hatch is closed during the day, the beer releases the coolness. The same thing happens when you open one and drink it.
[Worth a try i guess.. although i wouldnt go for it, personally. hehe]

25. Cook Rice
They give a recipe but it's pretty much cooking rice, just substituting water with beer. Says that the rice won't be lumpy, and it'll have a nuttier flavor — just like you after you eat it.
[Kinda blows tomato rice or pineapple rice out of the water..]

26. Stop Snoring
Simple remedy: Get a pocket tshirt and a 6-ounce mini-can of beer. Put the can in the pocket and fasten it closed with a safety pin. Just before you go to bed, put the shirt on backward. Research shows that you're more likely to snore when resting on your back. This little setup prevents you from rolling over. Plus, come morning, you won't have to get out of bed for breakfast.
[.....]

27. Build A Plane
A pilot and aircraft aficionado started building model airplanes out of beer cans about 10 years ago. Now, at his Web site (www.bcairoriginals.com), he sells the plans for eight categories of beer-can planes, including vintage tri-wings, helicopters, Warhawks, and ones that actually fly. Brings new meaning to the term "getting buzzed."
[*shrug* can't say he isn't creative]

28. Roast Chicken
Swampman Dan's Drunken Chicken recipe, courtesy of "Swamp Cookin' with the River People" [Oh Lord...]. Involves drinking half a can of beer, adding seasonings to the can.. and shoving the can into the chicken before placing in a secure, standing position on the grill. As the brew boils, it intoxicates the bird with flavour.
[I was speechless... *shoving a can in a chicken?*.. but please, msg if you'd like the recipe]

29. Ice A Hamstring
Frozen or very cold cans of beer make great ice packs. Hold one against whatever is ailing you — a sore muscle, a sunburned neck, a pounding headache. With an Ace bandage, you can even wrap a frosty 16-ouncer against the back of your thigh. Or use a sweatband to strap a can near your elbow after a tennis match. Just make sure to put some thin fabric between the skin and the beer can to avoid frostbite.

30. Build Delightful Patio Furniture
Simply screw plywood to wooden posts, brace them with lattice, and glue the caps to the top in whatever creative arrangement you like. Warning: Don't leave the finished table out in the rain, because the caps will rust.
[oh my god..]

31. Tame A Wild Hair
A few drops of beer is sticky enough to subdue any sudden uprising on your eyebrow or scalp that you spot in a barroom mirror. Just wet your index finger and demurely slick it down. Think of it as Miller mousse.
[hehe No harm trying]

32. Scale Fish
Nail or glue 3 or 4 beer caps to a sturdy piece of wood that's roughly 6 inches long, 1 inch wide, and 1/2 inch thick. Keep the caps in a line and make sure the serrated edges are facing out. Then attack those fish.
[hehe works well i'm sure]

Rachyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04753573300183377938noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8735873508488510095.post-50451831952863401622007-09-09T17:45:00.000+08:002007-09-09T20:50:29.958+08:00All A BlurJust into the first class for two of my uni courses this wk and we've already been assigned to write 7000 word essays. This is gonna be a tough semester..

But the highlight so far was going to Tutong for a class trip, one of many. On the trip there, we giggled and chatted alot in the minibus... on the trip back, there was minimal talking. Dint think it'd be that tiring. But maybe that's just cos we had class before that as well.

But anyway, we've got this new course.. Islamic Microfinance Project. It's alot of work, but i love the part where we get our hands dirty, so to speak. We invited some Arts and Handicrafts entrepreneurs over to the District Office.. most of them very senior, live 1-2hrs away and had to travel by boat.

They were all very friendly and albeit a little shy, were quite willing to speak to us abt the problems they faced in expanding their businesses. The ones we met mostly dealt with weaving and wood work. The man i was in charge of speaking to, is 73 yrs old (i thought i'd heard wrong when he told me =/ he looks too young to be over 70!) and lives alone with his wife. He says on a good day with the tide is high, they can get to town by boat, in an hour. They have no electricity, sewerage or running water. Toilet facilities are self-made and they rely on collected rainwater for their daily needs. They used to have a phone, but the lines got cut because of roadworks. Which unfortunately have been abandoned for slightly over a year now.

To be honest, if that were any of us living that lifestyle, there'd be a whole lot of griping. But these ppl seem content where they are. Of course, they wouldnt turn down lifestyle improvement, but they seem pretty happy. Reasons they choose to sell their handicraft is for a bit of extra pocket money, but mainly because they'd get bored otherwise. So this 73yr old man and his wife.. they trek into the jungle to search for rattan they can use for their weaving. No help from anyone else as their children are fully grown and have families of their own who live closer to town. heh Dont think i could do what they do.

After talking to them, we noted that they have similar requests in asking for assistance in improving their ventures. But i also noticed they dont seem to think abt these troubles much till u ask them. Like i said, they dont seem too fussed over lack of facilities. And as i was told, "We can't say we have nothing, we're thankful for what we do have". Wise words.

So over coffee, tea and cakes, we students discussed our experiences while watching them mingle with one another. You could tell that they had made a special effort. Getting dressed up to come see us and taking the time to speak to ppl they dont even know. It got us thinking.. made us feel that much more appreciative, to them and of what we have. I can't picture all of us having our material possessions taken away. =/ Rioting might start.

So apart from spending a little bit of time with friends, that was my week's highlight.. not hugely interesting, i'm afraid. I just spent the rest of my wkend feeling really tired and wanting sleep. hehe I think my report can wait till tomorrow... another early night for me.

Btw, hope u get better soon, Hippo. See u when ure not contagious nemore. hehe Mwah!

Just so i can say i've said this more than once.. Happy Birthday to Libby Nut (5th), Nana (6th) and my darling Celia (7th). Hoping u guys had the best days and wishing u lots of happy. =)

Rachyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04753573300183377938noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8735873508488510095.post-46444169746715471602007-09-04T11:26:00.000+08:002007-09-04T13:21:36.086+08:00Back to SchoolDid I enjoy my weekend?

In 2 words: Ohhh Yes =D

Took a fair bit of sleep to recuperate though. heheh And ive jumped right back into classes.. fun way to recover huh?

That "bestest present ever" everyone was asking me about? It wasnt a car, it wasnt a holiday.. it was having my classes cancelled on Saturday. =D Which gave me alot more time to get thru my errands. I did get pretty neat gifts though.. but as one Malaysian said, "your presence was present enough". =)

After lunch at Dynasty with a whole bunch of ppl, we took a stroll round the mall. Ending up having coffee and making a pitstop for the guys to buy WE11 and PS controllers. Yes, seemed they had made their plans for the weekend. heheh

Afternoon was a bit draining though.. with the running around trying to stay on schedule and getting things done. But all was good. And after stealing munchies from the food tray, we settled down and chilled abit before ppl started turning up.

I saw my fair share of drama for the night (not my own), and i saw ppl enjoying themselves, and i saw the football. Lol. Thanks Bubu for the kind words, but it just so happened we picked a night that not-to-be-missed footie was on. Good u enjoyed urself tho.. u and the Rebel. You 2 amuse me. lol

Who amused me even more? The boys from KL who were in town. My god.. nonstop squabbling. Play fights, insults, sarcasm. I can honestly just sit across from them and watch. Free entertainment!

More highlights that i can remember? Lease getting all sorts of things stuffed down her cleavage... lighter, cork, coke bottle. Gossiping with Buns. Getting the smoochies from Lion. Meeting GymSu who ive heard so much abt. I regret not being able to stay in one place long enough to give my guests my full attention at any one time. But they seemed to enjoy themselves well enough..

I must say thank u to everyone who took the time to come by and chill with us. But especially to Lion, Hills and Iz for helping me with drinks and to tidy up. Great appreciation to Buns and her Sammy for spending time with me. Phoenix, my Hamster-High-On-White-Sugar and WC for just being there. DC for helping out with food..

But the biggest hugs go to my Pink Hippo and my Zack. You guys did an amazing job and I love you for it. =)

Btw, did u guys see pg 5 of Sat's BB? heheh
Sorry for making such a ruckus and embarassing u at the mall. But hey, it wasnt us who put u in the paper and up on that stage. ;) We're so proud of u!

Rachyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04753573300183377938noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8735873508488510095.post-5740251957639609172007-08-31T18:02:00.000+08:002007-08-31T18:03:34.206+08:00Thank YouA big thank you to everyone who sent me birthday wishes. I really appreciate it. =)

There are always certain ppl who stand out...

Getting a birthday kiss from Boss. heheh

Keem who is always the first every yr to pass on his good wishes.. mainly cos he sends them the day before in case he forgets on the actual day. hehe

My White Choc who aimed to drive me crazy on my birthday, and succeeded. He made it up by giving me a lovely hug and by wrapping my gift in his Olympic Day Run certificate because he "didnt have any extra paper lying around the room". lol

Got calls from Mi and C&D abroad.
