Microorganism and virgin coconut oil

Antibiotics still work for most bacterial infections; viruses, however, are another matter. They are all, in a sense, supergerms because there are no drugs that can effectively kill them. Antibiotics are only useful against bacteria, not viruses. To date , no grugs have been developed that can effectively eradicate viruses and cure the illnesses they cause. Many children and elderly die each year from flu that ordinarily would not be fatal. Particularly the HIV virus attacks the cells of the immune system, leaving the person vulnerable to infection by any number of opportunistic organism. Infection by these organism eventually causes the victim’s death. As yet, none of the antiviral drugs can stop it.

We are in the age of supergerms, and our environment is teaming with microorganisms. They are in the air, we breathe, the food we eat, and the water we drink, and they even live on our skin. Many of these germs cause disease. Some have become drug-resistant supergerms. Medications can’t be relied on to protect us against all infectious organisms.. Virgin coconut oil : A super antimicrobial

When coconut oil is eaten, the body transforms its unique fatty acid into powerful antimicrobial powerhouse capable of defeating some of the most notorious disease-causing microorganisms. Even the supergerms are vulnerable to these lifesaving coconut derivatives. The unique properties of coconut oil make it, in essence, a natural antibacterial, anti viral, antifungal and antiprotozoal food.

Most bacteria and viruses are encased in a coat of lipid (fats). The fatty acids that make up this outer membrane or skin enclose the organism’s DNA and other cellular materials. But, unlike our skin, which is relatively tough, the membrane of these microorganisms is nearly fluid. The fatty acids in the membrane are loosely attached, giving the membrane a remarkable degree of mobility and flexibility. This unique property allows these organism to move, bend, and squeeze through the tiniest opening.

Lipid coated viruses, such as Human immunodeficiency virus HIV-1 or HIV+ , Influenza virus, Herpes simplex virus-1 &2 and many others and lipid coated bacteria, such as listeria monocytogenes, Staphylococcus aureus and many others are easily killed by MCFAs, which primarily destroy these organism by disrupting their lipid membranes. Medium-chain fatty acids, being similar to those in the microorganism’s membrane, are easily attracted to and absorbed into it. Unlike the other fatty acids in the membrane, MCFAs are much smaller and therefore weaken the already nearly fluid membrane to such a degree that it disintegrates. The membrane literally splits open, spilling its insides and killing the organism. Our white blood cells quickly clean up and dispose of the cellular debris. MCFAs kill invading organisms without causing any known harm to human tissues.

However, there is evidence from some recent studies that one antimicrobial effect of monolaurin is related to its interference with signal transduction in cell replication.

Apakah itu Kencing manis atau Diabetes?
Diabetes adalah salah satu penyakit kronik dimana ianya merupakan masalah yang besar di kebanyakan negara-negara didunia. Di Malaysia satu kajian telah dilakukan pada tahun 1996 dimana di anggarkan 700,000 hingga 900,000 orang dewasa berumur 30 tahun keatas menghidapi diabetes atau terdapat 8 penghidap diabetes bagi setiap 100 orang dewasa.

Diabetes adalah satu keadaan dimana tahap gula didalam darah anda adalah tinggi dari normal. Ia adalah satu daripada faktor utama untuk mendapat sakit jantung atau angin ahmar.
Diabetes berlaku apabila pankreas dalam badan tidak lagi menghasilkan insulin atau badan tidak boleh menggunakan insulin sendiri dengan berkesan. Makanan yang kita makan akan bertukar kepada gula dalam badan kita. Insulin akan digunakan untuk membawa gula dalam saluran darah kedalam sel dan tisu, dimana ia akan digunakan untuk bahan bakar.

Apabila kekurangan insulin, gula tidak boleh dibawa kedalam sel dan tisu, maka paras gula dalam badan akan meningkat. Ini akan merosakkan sel yang memerlukan glukosa untuk bahan bakar dan juga ini akan merosakkan organ dan tisu yang didedahkan kepada tahap glukosa yang tinggi.

Dua jenis diabetes

Terdapat dua jenis diabetes utama:

* Jenis 1 - "Diabetes atau Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus" (bergantung pada Insulin)
o Biasanya berlaku pada kanak-kanak dan remaja
o Biasanya tidak dapat menghasilkan insulin
* Jenis 2 - "Diabetes atau Non-Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus" (tidak bergantung pada insulin)
o Jenis paling biasa ditemui dan lebih daripada 90% penghidap diabetes adalah penghidap jenis ini.
o Selalunya pada orang yang berumur dan berat badan berlebihan.

Bagaimanapun, terdapat satu lagi jenis kumpulan individu yang berada diantara kedua-dua jenis diatas yang dikenali sebagai Impaired Glucose Tolerance atau kumpulan IGT.

Apakah tanda-tanda amaran diabetes?

Anda boleh mengalami berlainan tanda-tanda dan gejala. Walaubagaimanapun, gejala yang biasa dialami ialah:

* Haus/dahaga (haus yang berlebihan)
* Letih
* Berat badan menurun
* Penglihatan kabur
* Otot lemah
* Gatal

Lain-lain gejala termasuk:

* Pengidap penyakit kulit yang berpanjangan
* Luka yang lambat sembuh
* Kencing yang kerap
* Gatal pada bahagian kemaluan
* Rasa kebas

Anda boleh juga menghidapi diabetes tanpa apa-apa gejala. Jangan bergantung kepada gejala untuk mengetahui anda adalah penghidap diabetes. Jalankan ujian di klinik kesihatan berdekatan.

Siapakah yang mempunyai risiko tinggi untuk mendapat diabetes?

Sesiapa saja tidak kira umur boleh menghidapi diabetes. Walaubagaimanapun anda mempunyai risiko yang tinggi untuk menghidapi diabetes jika mempunyai perkara berikut:

* Berumur 35 tahun atau lebih tua. Semakin tua semakin tinggi risiko anda untuk menghidapi diabetes
* Berat badan berlebihan atau obesiti.Semakin berat badan anda bertambah, semakin tinggi risiko anda menghidap diabetes.
* Impaired glucose tolerance (IGT).
* Latar belakang keluarga yang mempunyai diabetes
* Sejarah diabetes pada kehamilan terakhir.
* Sejarah mempunyai bayi yang besar (berat kelahiran adalah 4.0 kg atau lebih ) .
* Tekanan darah tinggi
* Tidak aktif -gaya hidup sedentari
* Faktor pemakanan -Pengambilan makanan berlemak tinggi dan kurang pengambilan makanan berserat
* Tahap lemak/ kolesterol yang tinggi .

Komplikasi diabetes

Diabetes adalah masalah kronik dan boleh mengganggu banyak organ bergantung kepada kawalan gula dalam darah. Tanpa pengurusan yang betul ianya boleh mendatangkan berbagai komplikasi seperti penyakit kardiovaskular, kegagalan buah pinggang, buta dan kerosakan saraf.

Keadaan kecemasan:

* Hipoglisemia -ialah apabila tahap gula dalam darah adalah rendah. Anda akan mengalami sakit kepala, rasa pening, pusing, ketar tangan dan berpeluh. Anda boleh pengsan atau di serang sawan jika kandungan gula anda adalah terlalu rendah
* Diabetes Ketoacidosis adalah keadaan serius apabila tahap gula terlalu tinggi. (Ini biasanya bermaksud anda benar-benar kekurangan insulin). Ia juga boleh di hasilkan oleh tekanan, jangkitan kuman, kecederaan, penggunaan ubatan atau kemasukan wad bagi angin ahmar atau sakit jantung. Anda akan mengalami mengantuk dan tidak sedar diri.
* Hiperglisemia - adalah apabila tahap gula dalam darah tinggi. Anda akan mengalami mengantuk dan tidak sedar diri

* Ini menyebabkan kerosakan jangka panjang:
o Mata
+ Katarak, pendarahan dalam mata dan menyebabkan buta
o Saraf
+ Kebas atau kehilangan deria rasa pada tangan dan kaki dimana pesakit boleh mendapat kecederaan tanpa disedari. Ini boleh menyebabkan luka pada kaki dan gangrene
o Otak
+ Angin ahmar (hubung dengan strok)
o Buah pinggang
+ kegagalan buah pinggang
o Jantung
+ Sakit jantung

Apakah yang sepatutnya saya lakukan untuk mengelakkan dari mendapat diabetes?

Kawalan diabetes yang baik adalah anda boleh mengawal tahap gula dalam darah menghampiri tahap normal. Ini boleh di capai dengan kaedah berikut:

* Mengawal pengambilan makanan
o Mengambil makanan seimbang kerana pengambilan makanan berlebihan akan meninggikan tahap gula dalam darah
* Melakukan senaman fizikal
o Senaman dapat mengurangkan kandungan gula dalam darah dan membantu insulin bekerja dengan lebih berkesan. Senaman juga dapat membantu anda mengurangkan berat badan.
* Ubatan
o Jika anda pengidap diabetes jenis 1, anda memerlukan suntikan insulin

The Prostate: Its Diagnosis and Treatment

Imagine a little bucket sitting inside your belly -- that's your bladder. Now picture, right below the bucket, a tiny chestnut -- that's your prostate. There's a tube running out the bottom of the bucket, right down through the middle of the chestnut, top to bottom -- that tube is your urethra. Water continually collects in your bladder (bucket). Every so often the muscles at the bottom of your bladder open up, while the muscles surrounding the bladder contract, squirting the urine into the urethra (tube) which runs through the prostate (chestnut) and continues through the penis, all the way to the tip and out of the body.

The chestnut-shaped prostate sits right below the bladder and is wrapped around the urethra, but it has nothing to do with a man's urinary apparatus. The prostate happens to be where it is only because it's needed for ejaculation, and the ejaculate passes through the same urethra as the urine does. That's why the prostate sits below the bladder, and that's why prostate problems interfere with a man's ability to urinate and to have sex.

Can coconut oil reduce the viral load of HIV-AIDS patients? "Initial trials have confirmed that coconut oil does have an anti-viral effect and can beneficially reduce the viral load of HIV patients", University of the Philippines' Emeritus professor of pharmocology Dr. Conrato S. Dayrit said.

A minimum of 50 ml of coconut oil would contain 20 to 25 grams of lauric acid, which indicates that the oil is metabolized in the body to release monolaurin which is an antibiotic and an anti-viral agent. Among the saturated fatty acids, lauric acid has the maximum anti-viral activity, he said. Based on this research, the first clinical trial using monolaurin as monotherapy on some of the HIV patients was conducted recently. Dr. Dayrit's conclusions after the study: "This initial trial confirmed the anecdotal reports that coconut oil does have an anti-viral effect and can beneficially reduce the viral load of HIV patients. The positive anti-viral action was seen not only with the monoglyceride of lauric acid but with coconut oil itself. This indicates that coconut oil is metabolized to monoglyceride forms of C-8, C-10, C- 12 to which it must owe its anti-pathogenic activity."

On July 19, 1995, Dr. Mary Enig, noted biochemist and nutritionist, was quoted in an article published in The HINDU, India's National Newspaper as stating that coconut oil is converted by the body into "Monolaurin" a fatty acid with anti-viral properties that might be useful in the treatment of AIDS. The staff reporter for The HINDU wrote about Enig's presentation at a press conference in Kochi and wrote the following:

"There was an instance in the US in which an infant tested HIV positive had become HIV negative. That it was fed with an infant formula with a high coconut oil content gains significance in this context and at present an effort was on to find out how the 'viral load' of an HIV infected baby came down when fed a diet that helped in the generation of Monolaurin in the body."

The reporter commented on Enig's observations that "Monolaurin helped in inactivating other viruses such as measles, herpes, vesicular stomatitis and Cytomegalovirus (CMV) and that research undertaken so far on coconut oil also indicated that it offered a certain measure of protection against cancer-inducing substances."

Enig stated in an article published in the Indian Coconut Journal, Sept. 1995 that Monolaurin, of which the precursor is lauric acid, disrupted the lipid membranes of envelope viruses and also inactivated bacteria, yeast and fungi. She wrote: "Of the saturated fatty acids, lauric acid has greater anti-viral activity than either caprylic acid (C-10) or myristic acid (C-14). The action attributed to Monolaurin is that of solubilizing the lipids ..in the envelope of the virus causing the disintegration of the virus envelope."

Being HIV positive myself, and having things very under control, there are a couple of concerns I have and questions. The Virgin Coconut Oil? Absolutely amazing stuff! In a July 1997 newsletter entitled "Keep Hope Alive" an interview with Chris Dafoe was recorded. Chris Dafoe of Cloverdale, IN who, based on his lab numbers, thought the end was near in September, 1996. His HIV viral load was over 600,000, CD4 count was 10 and CD8 at 300. He prepaid his funeral and decided to take his last vacation in the jungles of South America with an Indian tribe in the Republic of Surinam. Around October 14, 1996, he began eating daily a dish of cooked coconut which was prepared by the local Indians. By Dec. 27th, 1996, a mere 2 and 1/2 months later, his viral load was at non-detectable levels and he had gained 32 lbs and was feeling great. He had some other people he knew with HIV try using coconuts in their diet, and they experienced the same results. The entire interview is recorded here.

A woman named Betty buys Tropical Traditions Virgin Coconut Oil uses it in her ministry to the sick. She shares the following story of her friend with HIV that wishes to remain anonymous:

My friend B... is an HIV patient. He was dying in the hospital for 3 years and his body was covered with acne. There was also one dollar size boil on his left hip. When I got my first order of Virgin Coconut Oil , I gave him a quart of the oil to try. The result was amazing! After my friend took it for less than 2 weeks, the acne disappeared. The big boil on his hip started to heal and at this time is completely gone. After more than a month on coconut oil, his skin is now baby silk. You would think he is a different person. His recent blood test showed great improvement. The helper cells ( T- cells) which were at level 60 are now at a higher level of 608 after about one and a half months of taking the oil consistently. He is taking the minimum amount of 3.5 tablespoons per day. The viral load is now down to 50. That was almost on the 100 level before he used the oil. My friend is not completely healed yet but he has come a long way from where he was before because of this amazing oil. I will keep on introducing this amazing oil to my friends!

Recently the PATA International-Potato and Products Aid Alliance To Africa committed to distribute Virgin Coconut Oil to Africa for distribution among HIV - AIDS sufferers. They state:

"AIDS is the modern day Black Plague. Millions have all ready died from this disease, leaving behind millions of orphans. Millions more will follow in death, unless a low cost way of controlling this illness is found quickly.

Several long term world studies sponsored by various health organizations have found that the high content of lauric acid in unrefined coconut oil can prolong the lives of AIDS patients by dissolving the covering of the virus itself. This same action has been found effective against other infectious, tropical based diseases as well."

If the results from the smaller studies duplicate themselves in the clinics in Africa, PATA intends to extend the distribution of Virgin Coconut oil in Africa.
