And also, to cover strikes, from the point of view of "how this strike will inconvenience you, the reader". Since the mass media is made up of multinational corporations, the people in charge of the media aren't exactly sympathetic to the very concept of unions, so they don't get any publicity otherwise, except for the occasional outrage.
