A new service from drivemycar.net.au allows you to lease out your car and get paid cash when its not being used.

Going away on holiday, want a break from your car payments or just want to get some extra cash, now you can lease out your car to an approved driver for a couple days per week, a month or even a year.

Holden Monaro 40th Anniversary

Do you know this woman? 3AW's Ross and John are hoping to find the woman (Cathy Wood) pictured in this photo on the eve of 40 years since the launch of the Holden Monaro. The iconic photo was part of a poster which helped launch the Holden Monaro in Australia with the message "Out to drive you wild".

The 40th anniversary of the first major race win by a Holden Monaro will be celebrated in style at the VACC Historic Sandown race meeting on November 8-9, 2008.

Appropriately, around 40 Monaros of all models are expected to be on track or on display at the meeting to mark the historic victory at Sandown on September 15, 1968 of the then-new HK Monaro GTS 327 in the Datsun 3 Hour production car race.

The Holden Monaro Club is also holding several events to remember the launch 40 years ago.

According to Hitwise, the leading online competitive intelligence service, searches for 'fuel watch' increased by 75% comparing weeks ending 12 April 2008 and 19 April 2008.

Searches were prompted by the announcement of a national fuel watch scheme starting in December that will publish petrol station prices for the next day online.

The scheme aims to maximize transparency in petrol pricing by informing consumers about where the best deals can be found.

Two Lane Black Top - DVD Release

This Cult 70's road movie finally comes to DVD in Australia.

The cast includes two cars, a 55 Chevy with a 454 big block and and a new GTO with a 455.

Monte Hellman’s road movie masterpiece stars James Taylor and Dennis Wilson (The Beach Boys) as two nameless car junkies drag racing across a vast, vacant America. In the tradition of Easy Rider, this stark journey along an American road to nowhere follows ‘the driver’ (Taylor) and ‘the mechanic’ (Wilson) in their souped-up 1955 Chevy until they pick up a lone girl (Laurie Bird) on the highway, and their course changes forever. Jealousies and tensions soon simmer between the road warriors before a middle-aged, alcoholic loner driving a 1970 Pontiac GTO Warren Oates) challenges them to a race for the Pontiac, and the girl. The Village Voice praised Hellman’s “feeling for the vast inhuman distances which form the face of America and the character of her people."

An interesting bit of trivia involves a couple of the '55 Chevys used in the movie. One of the '55s in Two-Lane Blacktop was the car driven by Harrison Ford in American Graffiti.

GT Falcons Soar in Price - AGAIN???

Hey, now I wasn't too far off was I? I anticipated that the XB would be the star of the night, re: Shannon's June 4 auction in Melbourne, and guess what, it was, $83,000, what a ripper. I had anticipated $70,000 for the XB, $190,000 for the XY, it sold for $211,500, my guess for the HO was $590,000, it sold for $525,000 and the XR GT sold for only $52,000 but recently sold again on ebay for over $80,000, well done Mister, you spotted well.

Where is it all heading? Well, I believe the XY HO's are staying steady at around $600k-$800k, the XW Phase II at around $350k-$550k, the XY GT's at around $250k-$350k, XW GT's at around $140k-$220k, XA GT sedans $65k-$100k, XA GT Coupes $85k-$120k, XA RPO's $140k-$180k, XB GT sedans $35k-$75k, XB GT Coupes $50k-$85k, XR GT's $60k-$90k, XT GT's $40k-$75k and the Phase Four XA GT HO, well, name your price for that one special car, the only, I dare say no price could buy that car, the owner would not sell.

Why the variance in price, well, it will always depend on a number of factors, colour, whether it is auto or manual, it's condition, if it restored or unrestored, interior colour, number of previous owners, every one of these points mentioned could make the difference between paying $350k or $500k.

I have one word of advice to all that are contemplating a purchase of a Falcon GT, whether it an investment or purely self indulgence, or maybe fulfilling that childhood dream, like I, make sure that you get a Pre-Purchase Inspection/Verification by www.GT351.com.au. Falcon GT's up for auction

This months auction at Shannon's Melbourne contains a plethora of Ford Falcon GT's, an XY, XR, XB and a XY HO Phase III. Word is that the star tonight might actually be the Black XB GT.

Lot 22, the XB GT is the pick of the bunch in regards to Colour of paint and interior, it has the highly valued sunroof, it's a much sought after manual with some modern day creature comforts like power steering and air conditioning. Speculation is around the $70,000 mark for the XB, $190,000 for the XY GT, $65,000 for the XR GT and around $590,000 for the HO.

Anyhow, off I go to attend and we'll see how far off we were in regards to pricing.

Every year cars get safer and traffic enforcement get harsher yet to road toll remains relatively stagnant, last year dropping only 1.4%.

Last week I took my 1963 EJ Holden for a drive, no Airbags, not even seat belts and I made a startling observation.. the driving behaviour of others that doesn’t bother me in a modern 8 airbag car causes me great grief when I am looking down the barrel of becoming a steering column kebab following even a minor incident.

Knight Industries Two Thousand is the official name for the Knight Rider Car we know as KITT.

KITT, the flame-throwing, river-jumping, talking muscle car from the `80s TV show Knight Rider, is not street legal because of missing equipment and modifications so whoever buys the car will probably keep it in a private collection.

The car belongs to Tim Russo of Livermore, a Kassabian Motors customer who figured now was a good time to test the market, with the 25th anniversary of the show's debut coming up.
