Galaxy fans didn't exactly give <span style="font-weight: bold;">David Beckham</span> a warm welcome in his first game back at the Home Depot Center.<br /><br />It probably didn't help that the opponent was the last team the Englishman played for: AC Milan.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_6iX00OoqJz0/SmQw1t71vYI/AAAAAAAAH84/lTCJSQ-irzw/s1600-h/beck2.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 183px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_6iX00OoqJz0/SmQw1t71vYI/AAAAAAAAH84/lTCJSQ-irzw/s200/beck2.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5360463155899514242" border="0" /></a><span style="font-weight: bold;">Beckham</span> was booed in the pregame introductions and during every touch throughout the game. <a href="http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/soccer/07/19/becks.booed.ap/index.html?eref=T1">Derisive signs and chants</a> were directed at the DP.<br /><blockquote>"I'm not disappointed. "You can't be liked by everyone."</blockquote>Word is he even had a bit of a verbal spat with a fan that could've led to some physical altercation, were it not for security.<br /><br />You never would've guessed he provided assists on both L.A. goals to lead the Galaxy to an impressive 2-2 tie with the Italian giants (that's beside the point, right?).<br /><br />No wonder <a href="http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1200722/AC-Milan-boss-Leonardo-joins-Chelsea-Spurs-race-sign-LA-Galaxy-midfielder-David-Beckham.html">Milan</a> and <a href="http://sports.yahoo.com/sow/news;_ylt=A9G_bxMwDWRK.W8BCAsmw7YF?slug=afp-fblengpritausamlsenggalaxybeckham&amp;prov=afp&amp;type=lgns">some EPL teams</a> are posturing for his services.<br /><br />Take a look at <a href="http://www.101greatgoals.com/goals-on-sunday-liverpool-lose-to-rapid-vienna-juventus-held-by-nancy-video/31136/">the highlights</a>:<br /><br /><object width="410" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Ka0UZSX3YHc&rel=0&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en&feature=player_embedded&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Ka0UZSX3YHc&rel=0&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en&feature=player_embedded&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="410" height="344"></embed></object><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/8657398112350902286-8211179677003984442?l=jmayers.blogspot.com'/></div>The Beautiful Gamehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13535586094920029536noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8657398112350902286.post-81228926422455651152009-07-20T03:41:00.000-07:002009-07-20T03:41:00.351-07:00Gold Cup: the final four<a style="font-weight: bold;" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_6iX00OoqJz0/SmQvGA5QGII/AAAAAAAAH8o/32eG-LgStDg/s1600-h/ffgoldcup.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 164px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_6iX00OoqJz0/SmQvGA5QGII/AAAAAAAAH8o/32eG-LgStDg/s200/ffgoldcup.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5360461236843583618" border="0" /></a><span style="font-weight: bold;">1. The underdogs had their chances, but just lacked the final scoring touch.<br /><br />The Sounders FC provided the on-field credibility to the sport in this country that the Seattle fans have already done all season in the stands.<br /><br />And, of course, I can't overlook the rare opportunity to see world-class players like <span style="font-weight: bold;">Frank Lampard</span>, <span style="font-weight: bold;">John Terry</span> and <span style="font-weight: bold;">Petr Cech</span> in action.<br /><br />It was a day I'll never forget. Red Bulls game</del> return of <span style="font-weight: bold;">David Beckham</span> to MLS had the attention of the soccer world Wednesday night. Heck, the Fox Soccer Channel announcers were all but reading <span style="font-weight: bold;">Grant Wahl</span>'s book on the air during the broadcast.<br /><br />Predictably, there were (scripted?) awkward man-hugs and unnatural affection between the two Galaxy stars. I wasn't buying it, but with <a href="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/report?id=267761&amp;league=USA.1">a 3-1 scoreline</a>, it really doesn't matter.<br /><br />The team will take all the drama in the world to dominate opponents and continues its winning streak -- now at four games.<br /><br />But don't be fooled into thinking the madness is close to over.
