The crepe myrtles are in full bloom and have been for many weeks. It seems like they bloomed earlier this year. Alvin is blessed to have an abundance of myrtles in our community. They are very popular in our area and thrive in the heat and humidity. Mr. Bass, the second owner of "The Cottage", planted crepe myrtles along his property line and referred to his place as "The Myrtles".

Did you know that crepe myrtles were brought over from Japan in the 1700's? And in 1997, the 75th Texas Legislature designated the crepe myrtle as the official state shrub.
