You know, the way kids do -- even 21 year old kids... Like you're supposed to figure out what they should eat.

And in my head, I heard the voice of my father (Niks Brainy Smurf Pez). He replied, "How about a banana?"

How about a banana? My father was forever trying to get us to eat bananas. I think he lived in fear that the bananas would go bad, and felt that it was his duty to make sure that this did not happen.

Mind you, EVERY time he went to the grocery store, he bought more bananas. So it was truly a constant challenge. Would we ever be able to keep up with the bananas? We did, but sometimes it necessitated a banana-eating-frenzy. This usually meant that my father and I would eat two or more bananas in one day (for 2 or 3 days).

To this day, when I drive home for a visit, it's the same thing. I will inevitably be offered a banana. And whether or not I partake, I will be handed a banana for the 7 hour drive back to Massachusetts. Usually a banana, a bottle of water, and a package of peanutbutter crackers. I used to try to turn this all down, but now I just shut up and take it. Life is short. I make my father happy. I have a banana.

You don't suppose this has anything to do with my being a lesbian, do you?AP3http://www.blogger.com/profile/12068609044580667767noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8617890.post-66732918008327453972008-07-01T08:38:00.003-04:002008-07-01T08:45:22.924-04:00Rabbit, rabbit! July LAGOMANIA!Rabbit, rabbit! Good luck in July, everyone!

I am quite tired. I just returned from a long conference and went right back to work.

Today I have a day off, but I'm stuck inside the house because the painters are here, and both doors are effectively blocked. (Yes, I could get out in an emergency, but I'd have to run through wet paint and such.) Poor Anex Snoopy Pez went to the bathroom a bit ago and will have to hold it until the end of the day. It's kind of a bummer.

It seems like the painters have been working forever because... they kinda have. It keeps raining and so everything keeps getting strung along forever. I can't wait 'til it's done. I'm tired of having workmen outside every window (yes, it's all men) listening to heavy metal on their boom boxes, smoking and such. It has become quite tired for me.

But hey, the house will look great.AP3http://www.blogger.com/profile/12068609044580667767noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8617890.post-8307868140379279712008-06-14T11:19:00.007-04:002008-06-14T15:04:50.773-04:00What? An OLD SCHOOL Pezland Post! W00T!I'm not sure what's overcome me, but I feel the urge to write a rambling, random, old-school Pezland post, the kind that has not <s>shamed</s> graced this site in some time. It will have several completely unrelated subsections, just like back in the day (the Pezland Day, that is). Don't worry -- unlikely that I'll do this again any time soon!

First up. I was recently insulted in a way that was supposedly a compliment. You know the kind. "Back-handed compliments". This was a doozy. So Friday I'm slowly driving down my street to go to work. Running a tad late, wanting to make-up a little time on the road. My neighbor from down the street -- one of the least-friendly neighbors I have, mind you -- kind of waves me over to stop. He's done this before. It's always to complain about something. (For instance, once he pulled me over to complain that my cat, Sivle Sylvester Pez, walked across his car right after he washed it and left paw prints. Um, sorry?) Anyhoo. He waves me over, so I brace myself.

He says, "Sorry I didn't wave the other day or say 'hi' -- I didn't recognize you!" Now, I have NO CLUE what he's referring to. So I just say, "Oh, that's okay." I'm hoping to leave quickly, if that's all he has for me, 'cause some of us have to work ya know. But apparently I'm not getting his gist. He repeats, "No, I mean, I didn't recognize you!" I have no clue what this man's issue is. I say, again, "Oh, that's fine, no big deal". He says, "See, I didn't recognize you -- that's a GOOD thing!"

Apparently, he felt that he was trying to compliment me. As in, NOT looking like AP3 is a HUGE compliment! Oh, that silver-tongued fool! He's going to bring me back to men! Not. Part of what's weird about this is, I haven't changed in my appearance in quite some time. I mean, I haven't lost weight, haven't changed my hair, nothing! I have NO IDEA what the heck he was referring to. I just got the take-away that NOT looking like myself is lookin' good. Thanks, pal.

Okay, on to the next topic.

Our other cat, Einna Hello Kitty Pez, ran away not long ago. She's never been an outdoor cat, didn't even have a collar. But we're having work done on the house (painting etc.), and I think it was freaking her out. One night I came home, and she bolted out the door and ran down the street. Chubby thing that she is, she's faster than I am, and there was no chasing her. But she didn't come home the next day, or the next. Or the next. I call the shelters, put up "lost cat" flyers, all that. By the fourth day, I begin to swallow the hard truth that I will probably never see her again or even know what became of her. On the fifth day, after the sixth night, WHO shows up on the porch like nothing's new? Einna Hello Kitty Pez, of course. I'm SO GLAD she's okay, and back. She is one strange fish, as they say. She lost maybe a pound or two. I'm actually considering trying this as my diet -- leaving my house and running around in neighborhood yards for five days and six nights. I would DEFINITELY walk across my neighbor's car after he washed it, too.

On to the next topic.

I have seen many summer movies already. I did it for the Air Conditioning. Seriously. Major heat wave here, and we have no AC. Here's the VERY quick rundown:

"Sex and the City": If you liked the TV series, you'll like the movie. It's like several episodes back-to-back, a SATC marathon of sorts. I liked the TV series, so I give it 2.5 bunnies (out of 4). It was a little long (two-and-a-half hours).

The new Indiana Jones movie (no idea what the title is): Honestly? HONESTLY? I enjoyed numbers 1 and 3 of this series. Didn't like 2 as much. This one? 1.5 bunnies. Just SO over-the-top and ridiculous. Not in a good way.

"Iron Man": Loved Robert Downey, Jr. in this. The beginning is a little grim. Entertaining, if you like superhero movies. I do. 3 bunnies.

"Kung Fu Panda": Beautiful animation. If you like Jack Black, and appreciate references to the genre of Kung Fu films, you will enjoy it very much. I do. 3 bunnies.

"Young @ Heart": A documentary about a senior citizens' singing group, based out of Northampton, Massachusetts. Very touching, and funny. I laughed; I cried; I had a good time. Catharsis! 4 bunnies, best of the lot. If you miss it at the theater, rent the DVD. No need for a big screen.

Okay, ONE more topic.

I very much enjoy the blues (music, that is), and I recently discovered a Bay Area blues band that's just the bomb. It's "The Lara Price Band". Lara Price is the singer, and she's really excellent. I think what really sells it to me is the guitarist, the clearly-Stevie-Ray-Vaughan-influenced Laura Chavez. She's just awesome on guitar, not unlike SRV. And that's saying something. She's 5'3" and has tiny hands, so I truly have no idea how she does it. She even makes SRV-guitar-face! Must have sold her soul to the Devil at the crossroads or some such. [Aside: Read about historic Pez family brush with SRV HERE.] Here's one clip of Laura Chavez (an excerpt from her take on "Little Wing", by Jimi Hendrix and eventually SRV):

Laura Chavez with the Lara Price Band
AP3http://www.blogger.com/profile/12068609044580667767noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8617890.post-84549661002755277742008-06-01T06:23:00.005-04:002008-06-01T23:12:01.315-04:00Rabbit, Rabbit! Hoffman really steals his scenes (as usual), but Hanks is great too.

Here are the actual people being portrayed:

This movie is highly entertaining from the first scene to the last. It's hard to believe that things played out the way they did, but truth really is stranger than fiction. BTW, I spent a semester of college in Washington, D.C., during the time period portrayed in the movie, and they captured the era quite well.

The only thing I could criticize, really, is the ending. It tries non-too-subtly to compare the situation of the movie to our present day Middle East misadventures. Perhaps a little too obvious.

Still, I gotta give this 4 stars outta 4, or Kiss My Ass Bunny. It might've been 3 stars, but Hoffman is so good that it pushes it to 4.AP3http://www.blogger.com/profile/12068609044580667767noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8617890.post-23266384553473029072008-02-03T23:22:00.000-05:002008-02-03T23:29:06.138-05:00How 'bout those Celtics?Okay, enough trash talk. The Patriots lost.

Above: Tom Brady on his back, where he spent most of the game.

What can I say? The Giants were truly impressive. I mean, I've never seen Brady get sacked so many times. They never let us get going on offense -- their pressure on the QB was unbelievable. Really, it's amazing how close the Patriots came to winning, considering how awesome the Giants defense was.

I hate that they always give the MVP to the QB. Eli Manning played pretty well, and had a couple of excellent plays. But the MVP should have been someone on the Giants defense.

If the Patriots hadn't been 18-0 going into the game, the loss wouldn't have been so bad. I'd just say, "Oh, well, Giants played great -- and we'll be back next year." But it is virtually inconceivable that the Patriots will ever again have a shot at 19-0. So that really is a bummer.

My "called shot" of the BoSox and Patritos both winning this year falls up 3 points short. *sigh*

On a happier note... earlier today I saw a truly rare sight:

From left: Sivle Sylvester Pez, Anex Snoopy Pez, and Einna Hello Kitty Pez basking in the sunlight.

The three furry babies sat together in the sunlight all afternoon, which was really cute.AP3http://www.blogger.com/profile/12068609044580667767noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8617890.post-72964383496364527902008-02-02T19:45:00.001-05:002008-02-03T13:15:07.959-05:00Goodbye to Hildegard, Hello to Soo YunWell... I did it. It saddened me to give up on Hildegard of Bugin, but it was time. She had almost 170,000 miles on her, and has been towed three times this month. I broke down today and bought a new (to me) car. It's a 2005 Chevrolet Aveo. Aveos are made in Korea, so she has a Korean name, "Soo Yun". It means "Perfect Lotus Blossom". I like sitting on that. Here she is:

And from the back:

So long, Hildegard. Thanks for the memories.... driving all over Massachusetts; driving Mada Luke Skywalker Pez to his guitar lessons; driving Aved Princess Leia Pez to Tae Kwon Do (also Korean... hmmm...); driving to Montreal with Me Wonder Woman Pez for our honeymoon (Hildegard had to get towed on THAT trip, come to think of it!!!).... It's time. But yes, thanks for the memories.

By the way, when MWWP and I met Doug and Monika in Boston this summer, we drove to them in Hildegard. It was clear when we drove up that they recognized Hildegard from this blog... it was kinda cute. They looked excited to see her. And, they were crammed in the back seat briefly (where few have gone!) as we drove them a short distance.

Soo Yun gets about 10 miles per gallon more than Hildegard did -- which makes me happy -- and she has 4 doors instead of 2 -- which makes MWWP happy.

Super Bowl prediction: Patriots 38, Giants 21. He was 26 when he died in 1991.

The past week or so, it seems I've been bombarded by deaths or possible deaths of young people. I recently found out an old friend of mine might be dying. A day after that, I learned that an old college friend did die. Then a couple days later, I learned that someone I do tai chi with was in a bad car accident and is not doing well at all. All of these people are/were in their 30s.

Then I wake up to news that Heath Ledger died at 28. He was such a good actor! I still think he deserved the Oscar for Brokeback Mountain.

Anyway, I'm finally getting used to the reality that people grow old and die -- but apparently I'm still not ready for the reality that all of our lives are fragile and truly, anyone can die at any time.

Sorry to be morbid, but that's where my mind has been since I last posted. That and, on a happier note, I do believe the Patriots will go 19-0.AP3http://www.blogger.com/profile/12068609044580667767noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8617890.post-79736988551437961402008-01-13T07:00:00.000-05:002008-01-13T07:30:08.824-05:00Yoga vs. Kung Fu and MORE!In honor of my mama TLP taking up yoga, I'm doin' this here post. I recently started back up with Taijichuan (Chen style), closely related to Kung Fu. Here's a video you just HAVE to check out (yoga vs. kung fu):

WOOT!?!

In some of my earliest memories, probably circa 1970, I remember TLP doing yoga handstands and such. Used to kind of freak me out. No one wants to see their mama upside down like that.

Hey, how 'bout those Patriots? 17-0, baby. The best part? Tom Brady did a fake Statue of Liberty. What's next, a fake Flea Flicker?

BTW, sorry I haven't been posting more or reading your blogs more. I could say I've been extra busy.... but the real truth is that Me Wonder Woman Pez and I recently discovered facebook.com -- in order to keep up with Aved Princess Leia Pez while she's in Ireland. Facebook (or "The Book of Face", as Aved calls it) has taken over my life! Help! I stand by my "called shot": the Patriots will win the Super Bowl just as the Red Sox won the series. Obnoxious? Yes, I am.

And is it just me, or is Tom Brady prettier than the super models he <s>impregnates</s> dates? Recently Matt Damon was named "sexiest man alive", and he said it should have been Tom Brady, who is a taller, better-looking version of himself. It's our very own tradition.

So... a couple of weeks ago I started back up with Tai Chi Chuan lessons. Before I was studying the Wudang style, but now I'm doing Chen style.

Above: Chen style Tai Chi.

It's the original style of Taiji, and it's a little more martial-artsy than most Tai Chi you see. It's been fun! I'm actually pretty sore from it.

Oh, I've lost about 9 lbs. with Weight Watchers in about 6 weeks. Not bad. Slow and steady. Hopefully this is a sane pace to lose weight, and hopefully it'll stay off. Besides, it's easy to gain 9 lbs. during the "holiday season", and I've lost 9. I guess I can't complain.

In other news, I recently got the hideous wallpaper out of my "den" (really a music and meditation room) and painted it up. Here it is:

Above: My musical instruments and bust o' Elvis.

Above: My meditation area.

Pretty groovy.

And if none of the above gives you comment fodder, here's one last attempt. Jodie Foster finally came out (well, she acknowledged her partner, finally):

That's all I got. I'm way too busy.... hope to post more in 2008!AP3http://www.blogger.com/profile/12068609044580667767noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8617890.post-25665951868446969162007-12-12T09:00:00.000-05:002007-12-12T09:13:29.801-05:00Jury Duty

Believe it or not, the photo above is Anna Nicole Smith serving jury duty in 1995.

I had jury duty yesterday, and I looked nothing like this.

Ah, jury duty. I had to haul my cookies downtown to the courthouse by 8 a.m. Of course, they recommended that you arrive at 7:30 a.m. because of parking and security screening. So I haul my cookies down there bright and early, and sit. And wait. Hurry up and wait, just like the military! 9:00 a.m., still waiting. Can't leave the room. No snacks, no coffee. Just me and my book, trying hard to get it on together when all the people around us were talking about inane matters. 10:00 a.m. Still waiting. On about page 20, which is REALLY slow reading. 11:00 a.m. STILL WAITING. Getting uncomfortable in my chair now. On page 30 or so, slowing down. Noon. Still waiting. Have lost the will to live....

I sat there for HOURS, and my group never even got called. We were dismissed in the early afternoon. Didn't even get my parking reimbursed 'cause apparently, though the instructions told me to park in a certain lot and I did, I seemingly parked in the "yellow" section, and only "blue" and "white" sections get reimbursed parking. $6 wasted on parking, plus HOURS of my life that I can never have back. But they tell me I should feel good 'cause I did my "civic duty". Which apparently means wasting money and time and sitting around. God bless America!AP3http://www.blogger.com/profile/12068609044580667767noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8617890.post-72064669286348344282007-12-09T20:08:00.000-05:002007-12-22T17:23:45.224-05:00a quiz....

Every once in a while, I like to go to beliefnet and take their quiz to see what faith traditions match my beliefs. I've got nothing against pagans, but the practice doesn't appeal to me at all. Go figure. The first was The Darjeeling Limited, which I saw with Me Wonder Woman Pez.

We both really enjoyed it, though it's not a perfect movie. It's highly entertaining, and it has a lot of great moments. It reminded both of us of a cross between the Beatles Hard Days Night and Help! movies, just with Owen Wilson, Adrian Brody, and Jason Schwartzman instead of the Fab Four. And like both Beatles movies, it doesn't really go anywhere, but I didn't care. I give this movie 3 out of 4 stars, or "You Made Me Throw Up a Little" Happy Bunny.

Then I watched Gandhi (from 1982) on DVD.

I hadn't seen this since it came out 25 years ago, when I saw it in the theater as a "field trip" in the 9th grade. It brought back a lot of memories from that era of my life, in fact. I remember when I saw it in the 9th grade, I thought it was impressive but LONG and kinda BORING. Now, 25 years later, it seems... LONG and kinda BORING. Well, I like the beginning. But about halfway through it becomes riot scenes and Gandhi fasting and everyone trying to get him to eat and boring, boring, boring. It should have been two hours, not three. It did win the Oscar, though. For whatever that's worth. I, nevertheless, give it 2 out of 4 stars, or "You Suck and That's Sad" Happy Bunny.AP3http://www.blogger.com/profile/12068609044580667767noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8617890.post-52659772807942257722007-12-01T10:58:00.000-05:002007-11-30T23:02:38.894-05:00L A G O M A N I A in Pezland!
