On 28th March thousands will march through London as part of a global campaign to challenge the G20, ahead of their 2nd April summit on the global financial crisis. Our future depends on creating an economy based on fair distribution of wealth, decent jobs for all and a low carbon future.

NO to NATO International Demonstration: From Cambridge
Strasbourg, France
4-5th April 2009

Transport:

Cambridge Stop the War Coalition plans to take a minibus from Cambridge to Strasbourg for the weekend of 4th and 5th April (leaving early on Friday 3rd and returning late on Monday 6th). This is to coincide with a major gathering of world leaders there to mark the 60th Anniversary of the founding of NATO. Most or all of them will see this as something to celebrate, but STW takes a very different view; here is the context (more details about the demonstration at the National Stop The War website)

Why are we going?

On the occasion of the sixtieth anniversary of the NATO military organisation, we appeal to all people to come to Strasbourg and Kehl in April 2009, to protest against NATO's aggressive military and nuclear policies, and assert our vision of a just world free of war.
NATO is an increasing obstacle to achieving world peace. Since the end of the Cold War, NATO has reinvented itself as a tool for military action by the "international community", including the promotion of the so-called "war on terror". In reality it is a vehicle for US-led use of force with military bases on all continents, bypassing the United Nations and the system of international law, accelerating militarization and escalating arms expenditure - NATO countries account for 75% of global military expenditure. Pursuing that expansionist agenda since 1991, designed to advance strategic and resource interests, NATO has waged war in the Balkans, under the guise of so-called "humanitarian war", and has waged seven years of brutal war in Afghanistan, where the tragic situation is escalating and the war has expanded into Pakistan.

The need to make our protest forcefully seems clear enough; please consider whether you might be able to take part.

Tickets will be approximately £70 per place although Cambridge Stop the War is currently fundraising to lower these prices - so if you're interested in coming along or if you'd like to help sponsor someone else (see below for sponsoring a swim), please get in touch now.

Various low-cost accommodation options will be on offer, including a Peace Camp, or floor-space in a hall in Strasbourg.
Strasbourg is a beautiful and vibrant place, so the trip should be good fun as well as supporting an important protest. This is only a beginning of what is likely to be a long campaign of opposition to NATO's place on the world stage.

Sponsored Swim for NATO demonstration in Strasbourg

Cambridge Stop The War Coalition is organizing a sponsored swim over 1 mile ( that's 64 lengths!) to help raise money for sending a delegation from Cambridge to the NATO demonstration in Strasbourg on 4th April.

Please sponsor one of the swimmers and help protest against NATO expansion and the war in Afghanistan.

National Stop the War events:

NO TO NATO Demonstration in Strasbourg, 2nd-5th April

On the occasion of the sixtieth anniversary of the NATO military organization, anti-war groups from across the world are coming to Strasbourg, France from 2nd - 5th April 2009, to protest against NATO's aggressive military and nuclear policies, and assert a vision of a just world, free of war.

There will be an international demonstration and counter summit at the NATO meeting to oppose any further expansion of NATO and demand an end to the occupation of Afghanistan.
