Minimum hardware requirements

Operating Systems:Windows XP or Vista

RAM: 256M

Processor:1.3 Ghz Intel Celeron M or any comparable AMD/Intel Processor

GPU: ATI 9000, Nvdia Geforce 4MX 32 MB or a equivalent OpenGL compatible GPU

150 MB of hard drive space is required !

Note: If you meet the minimum requirements and have performance issues please lower your resolution in 'Options' at the 'Display' menu.

Controls

Default controls are mapped to the keyboard. Movement controls are mapped to the arrow keys and fire is mapped to the 'Z' key. To activate your shield press the 'X' key on the keyboard. The controls may be changed in the Options menu under “Controls” by pressing the 'Esc' key anytime during gameplay. You may also use a gamepad to play this game.

Note: Please use the mouse to select the gamepad map and keyboard mapping menus.

Gameplay

Wings of Apocalypse sports much of the same gameplay mechanics as many other shoot em ups but with a twist! Each character in the game has Deflector Shield in which he or she may deflect enemy attacks of the same color. For example; Naomi's Deflector Shield is Red, therefore she may only deflect Red enemy fire!

Depending on which character you choose, the difficulty of the game will change. Although the environment is exactly the same for each character, the opportunity to deflect enemy attacks are not. If the player chooses Roger he/she will be able to deflect almost all attacks because there are usually more blue enemies in the game. In other words Roger is easy difficulty, Bryan medium and Naomi Hard.

Known Issues

-On some system configurations Wings of Apocalypse has been known to perform poorly after the initial installation. If you are experiencing this, restart your computer to fix the problem.

-Performance is significantly decreased when the SLI feature is enabled for Nvidia video cards

-Wings of Apocalypse does not scroll properly when the SLI feature is enabled for Nvidia video cards

-If you use your keyboard or gamepad to select the keyboard or gamepad mapping menus you may have issues with your controls. A quick fix is to always select the keyboard or gamepad mapping menus with the mouse

-Windowed mode doesn't always work properly

Story (short version)

The human race is under attack by what is known to be an alien force. To combat this force a unified military has formed temporarily. After being on the defensive for many years EUM ( Earths Unified Military) gathered an Aerial Assault team to carry out extremely dangerous missions and battle objectives. To do this, EUM gathered together the best pilots around the world into 5 teams. The story begins with AA Team 5. Their operation is code named “STOP APOCALYPSE.”

Gameplay

Wings of Apocalypse sports much of the same gameplay mechanics as many other shoot ups but with a twist! In order to change the position of the deflector with the mouse you must move the red-yellow cursor in the direction and position you desire to deflect by moving the mouse. Once the cursor is in the desired direction and position, press the right mouse button in order to activate the Deflector and release the right mouse button to deactivate it.

The controls may be changed in the Options menu under “Controls” by pressing the 'Esc' key anytime during gameplay. You may also use a gamepad to play this game. We recommend a gamepad with a right and left analog and shoulder buttons to play this game. The right analog stick on a gamepad will automatically map itself to the Deflector controls.

Note:It is recommended for the Player to use a Xbox 360 Controller for the best control experience!

Wings of Apocalypse is now in competition at www.igf.com (Independent Games Festival) ! The official page for the entry can be found here at http://www.igf.com/php-bin/entry2009.php?id=734.

After checking out the other IGF entries, I can tell that this is going to be a very close competition as we are going up against 225 other independent games. Some of which have blown me away with their creativity, uniqueness and just overall "fun factor" ! Wish us luck as we wait for the results sometime in January of 2009!

I'm finally able to settle down and get my junk together and continue with the painting aspect of the game. Haha sorry guys! ^_^; I think this will be my approach to the avatar thingies when they are speaking, more painterly than really tight.

Talks in the ranks say that this game will be finished by the end of the year in the hopes of entering some kind of competition. Soooo... that means one individual on the team (me?) needs to get crackin'. This one was naturally the easiest and I just wanted to update and show I'm not dead or anything. Mike and Roger are next. ;)

This week is spring break and the also the perfect week to get a lot of work done on the Wings of Apocalypse game engine! So I've decided to give you guys a peak at what I've been working on so far. The following video shows off some basic menu functionality , sound playback , and collision detection. The menus and level shown in this video are for test purposes only and will not be in the final build of the game! All the menus you see in this video are place holders for better looking menus that will come later on. Enjoy!

EDIT: I just noticed that the sound is really loud and can get annoying. So make sure you turn the sound down a bit.
