Updated Pwnage Tool v2.0.1.

The iPhone-dev team updated the version of their Pwnage Tool v2.0 and released Pwnage Tool v2.0.1. A program allows you to activate and jailbreak iPhone units, including the iPhone 3G.

PwnageTool v2.0.1 takes care of the following issues present in v2.0:

* It auto-finds the bl39 and bl46 files better, if they’re on your computer

* It creates the ~/Library/iTunes/Device Support/ folder if not present, which should help with some 1600 errors people have been having.

* Many people have reported the PwnageTool not starting up at all (the icon never stops bouncing). This issue should be resolved now.

* The Sparkle AppCast URL is fixed in this version, so automatic updates should work for future releases.

1) First create a custom IPSW using the IPSW Builder.

3) Once you have pwned iTunes, put your phone into DFU mode.

4) Once you are in DFU mode iTunes will pop up and then you can hold shift and click restore and browse to your custom IPSW file.

iPhone Remains Effectively Sold Out in U.S.

MacNN reports that a survey of Apple's iPhone availability tool shows that the iPhone 3G is effectively sold out across the country. Only 3 stores appear to have any stock for Monday morning.

Apple notes that on Monday none of its 137 locations in the US will have stock of the 8GB iPhone and that the only location to have the 16GB black iPhone will be its retail store in Pleasanton, California.

The only other two stores to have stock of the iPhone are the retail locations in Salem, New Hampshire (Rockingham Park) and New York City (Fifth Avenue) - both of which only have the 16GB white iPhone model.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed To Be released For iPhone

THQ Wireless is working on their new Star Wars: The Force Unleashed on the iPhone platform. The game is scheduled to be released in 16^th September.

The action game features 2D graphics and Force power controls tailored to the iPhone's touch sensitive control system. Unfortunately it won’t support the accelerometer except for changing the screen to portrait or landscape mode.

In the game, instead of running through rooms, you control your character just like in Rebel Assault. All you have to do is draw symbols on screen, which performs specific tasks like Force Powers to kill your enemies. It sounds simple, but it gets complex and the soundtrack will be identical to the PS3 and Xbox versions.

The game will be from 2 to 3 hours long.

Apple Begins Testing iPhone Software 2.0.1

The latest iPhone 2.0.1 OS hasn't even been official for a week and reports say that Apple is already testing the next revision of the firmware.

Data analyzed from server logs shows a minority of references to iPhones running firmware titled v2.0.1, instead of the normal v2.0 available preloaded or as an iTunes upgrade. The connecting phones are further divided into different builds, with 2.5G models running 5B101, and 3Gs relying on 5B103.

The server requests are said to come from the San Francisco Bay Area, near the Cupertino headquarters for Apple and Atlanta, AT&T’s home.

Using your iPhone, you are able to connect to a Windows PC or Mac OS X and see the files, programs and resources exactly as you would if you were sitting at your desk, just on a smaller screen.

The Lite version has the following limitations

- Only one keyboard (QWERTY)

Apple: 1 Million iPhone 3Gs Sells And 10 Million App Store downloads In First Weekend

Apple announced that 1 million iPhone 3Gs were sold over opening weekend and 10 million App Store apps were downloaded.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs pointed out that the previous iPhone took 74 days to reach the same milestone.”So the new iPhone 3G is clearly off to a great start around the world The App Store is a grand slam, with a staggering 10 million applications downloaded in just three days," said Jobs."

There are currently about 800 applications available for download in the App Store, over 200 of which are free; at launch, there were about 550.

The iPhone 3G is now available in 21 countries, including the United States, Canada, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the U.K. It goes on sale in france on July 17.

iPhone 2.0 Software Available For Download

iPhone users can download iPhone 2.0 software, before the launch of 3G. The file can only be downloaded via this direct link to Apple’s server at the moment.

The iPhone 2.0 software allows existing iPhone and iPod Touch owners to have access to the software features that will be available on the new iPhone 3G that hits stores Friday morning

Here is what Apple writes about updating to 2.0 firmware:

“Normally if you choose to update, the iPhone or iPod touch software is updated but your settings and media are not affected. If your device currently has a software version prior to 2.0 (1.x) and you are updating to software version 2.0 or later, all data on your device will be erased in order to perform install the new software. In this case, iTunes will offer to create a one-time media backup of your device depending on what content is on your device and what content is stored in the iTunes Library you are connected to. You should ensure that you have enough free space on your Mac or PC to accommodate a backup that matches the capacity of your iPhone or iPod touch (4 GB, 8 GB, 16 GB, or 32 GB) if you proceed with the this backup.”

To update or restore iPhone or iPod touch first make sure you have an Internet connection and have installed the latest version of iTunes; connect iPhone or iPod touch to your computer; in iTunes, select iPhone or iPod touch in the Source pane and click the Summary tab, click "Check for Update"; iTunes will tell you if there's a newer version of the iPhone or iPod touch software available; click Update to install the latest version of the software, or click Restore to restore iPhone or iPod touch to its original settings. At last follow the onscreen instructions to complete the restore process.

The download is free for iPhone users, but for iPod Touch users it costs $9.95.

Apple to Launch MobileMe At 5AM July 9th

Apple has announced that their new MobileMe service will be launch on the evening of July 9th, just before the sales of the first iPhone 3Gs in New Zealand on July 10th at 5AM . The new service will be including web-based email, calendar, address book, photo gallery and storage capabilities, as well as "Push" sync services to between the cloud, desktop, and iPhone/iPod touch.

The following is their service status update that appears when you currently log into. Mac, which outlines the MobileMe launch on July 9^th. Members will be unable to access www.mac.com or any .Mac services during this time with the exception of .Mac Mail accessed via a desktop application, iPhone, or iPod touch. MobileMe will be available as soon as possible during this maintenance window.

It is also anticipated that the new version of iTunes will most likely be showing up around this time). MobileMe costs $99/year in the U.S., but will be available for $69 with the purchase of an iPhone 3G on July 11th.

Apple Released: "iPhone 3G. A guided Tour"

Apple released a guided tour of how to use the new 3G iPhone. The video covers all the new additions to the iPhone (3G, GPS, MobileMe, Exchange and much more).

The guided tours are available in both a 38-minute beginner's guide to the entire phone for customers that are new to iPhone, 12-minute edition that shows just the new features added with iPhone 3G and its iPhone 2.0 software for people that are upgrading from the first generation iPhone to the 3G model.

The most interesting aspect of the guided tour is the App Store demo. Once you choose to download an app, the icon will show up on the Springboard with a progress bar, showing how much of the app is yet to download. If you're stuck without a 3G or WiFi connection, the App Store will also be accessible via iTunes, and applications can be downloaded to the iPhone during a regular sync operation.

56% Of Smartphone Consumers Are Potential Buyers Of iPhone 3G

According to the RBC Capital Markets survey the majority of customers who are looking to purchase a smartphone in the next 90 days, iPhone was chosen by 56% of 3600 members of the Technology Adoption Panel.

The survey showed that only 23% of smartphone buyers were waiting it out for a new BlackBerry handset in the next 90 days. Palm limped in with a 3% planned buying-share. HTC, Nokia, and Samsung managed to swing 2% of the votes their way, while Motorola barely managed to convince 1% of respondents that theirs was the Smartphone to own.

The lower price-point and faster 3G data access were indicated as the most compelling reasons to buy the Apple handset, with 67% and 63% of survey respondents indicating such aspects as most-important in their buying-decision. The addition of GPS was listed as most-important to 47% of survey participants. Enterprise e-mail was a strong selling feature for 35%, while 20% were interested in third-party applications.

P.S. So, it seems that iPhone 3G is set to take the US smartphone market by storm.

Rogers Released Data Pricing For The iPhone

Rogers Communications Inc. finally released their data pricing plans for the iPhone.

According to Rogers voice and data plans will start at $60 per month when the device arrives in Canada, July 11. All iPhone plans are based on a three-year contract.

Rogers Wireless and its sister service Fido are offering four pricing levels. The cheapest plan, for $60, includes 150 minutes of voice calling (unlimited Evenings and weekends) with 400 megabytes of data; 75 sent text messages with unlimited incoming text messages and visual voicemail messages.

Three other plans are available: a $75 package that includes 300 minutes of phone calls with 750 MB data and 100 sent text messages; a $100 package that includes 600 minutes of phone calls with 1 GB of data and 200 sent text messages, and $115 per month for 800 minutes of phone calls, with 2 GB of data and 300 sent text messages.

Also iPhone consumers will have have a free access to Rogers and Fido Wi-Fi hotspots, as well as an identical plan from Fido.

Rogers Wireless will also offer two voice value packs for popular wireless features: a $15 monthly value pack including Caller ID, Who Called, Caller Ring Trax, 2,500 Sent Text Messages and 2,500 Call Forwarding Minutes; and a $20 monthly value pack including Caller ID, Who Called, Caller Ring Trax, 10,000 Sent Text Messages and 6:00 p.m. Early Evening Calling and 2,500 Call Forwarding Minutes.

O2 Announces New 3G iPhone Prices and Tariffs

UK Apple partner O2 stated recently that the 3G iPhone, which is set to be available for consumers soon, will be available on current L2 business tariffs as a monthly add on, which will add an extra £8.50 to the bills of current users.

O2 also stated that the older 8G iPhone will be available for free on many of the business tariffs when customers choose a 24 or 36 month contract. The average cost of the 16GB version of the iPhone is expected to range between completely free and £135, depending on the tariff chosen. Customers who choose the free version of the 16GB iPhone will need to be prepared to pay £75 per month on their tariff.

Orange To Sell iPhone 3G For €149 In France

France Telecom's Orange said it will launch Apple's iPhone 3G in France on July 17th with prices starting at €149 ($233) for the 8GB model. The 16GB iPhone will cost €199 ($312).

Both handsets require that subscribers sign up to one of its existing “Orange for iPhone” plans, or its Origami Star (from 3 hours), First or Jet plans.

Orange also added that with other plans (excluding time-cutoff and pay-as-you-go) the 8GB iPhone will sell for €199 and the 16GB for €249. For example, customers can get the 8GB model for €199 with a one-hour Origami Star plan that costs €32 and offers up to 500MB of monthly internet access.

As part of the carrier's "Change your mobile" promotion, those who have bought an iPhone prior to June 12th with will be able to get the 3G iPhone for €99 with a €100 refund valid until October 31st 2008. Of course this offer implies a 24 month contract too. Business clients will also be eligible for the "Change your mobile" offer.

"Orange for iPhone" plans (below) start at €49 per month for a plan that includes 2 hours of normal talk time, 2 hours of late evening and weekend minutes, and 50 SMS text messages. The most expensive plan is priced at €149 and includes 12 hours of normal talk time, 12 hours of nights and weekends, and 1000 SMS messages. All "Orange for iPhone" plans include Visual Voicemail and up to 500MB of monthly data usage.

iPhone 3G Costs Only $100 To Manufacture

It is to wonder why the new iPhone 3G is going to be so cheap in comparison to the first-gen device. Analysts suspect that the newer iPhone really only costs around $100 to manufacture.

Portelligent estimates that with this lower manufacturing cost that Apple stands to make around $90 per phone on hardware alone. While that is significantly lower than the estimated $229 profit earned on the original iPhone, the extra money from AT&T that they are likely making in addition to the number of new users that will be attracted by the lower price will no doubt make up for the difference.

According to David Carey, president of Portelligent “Gen2 iPhone pricing is aggressive enough that it made me think Apple’s really taking the gloves off on this one. New Application iDimLight For iPhone

New application iDimLight lets you manually choose dim time for iPhone backlight. It is much better than the autolock to have always the screen visibile, wifi and connections active, avoiding overheat of the iPhone and saving battery without locking the phone.

iDimLight will not dim your SpringBoard if you have a vWallpaper as your background. It also doesn’t work in a few of the stock applications like SMS, Camera or if you are watching a video in YouTube.

When you start the application, a popup opens and asks you to enter the number of seconds before you like the back light to be dimmed. You can enter any number of seconds you like. If you’d like to disable the app again, just start the app and enter -1. After you have entered the seconds, the app will ask you to restart SB.

If you want this new app you will need to have Ericas Utilities (in Utilities category) installed.

iDimLight is available in the Installer.app through the Bigboss packaging source.

Two New EzSkin For The iPhone 3G

EzGear has announced the forthcoming release of two new ezSkin cases for the iPhone 3G. The two new cases are the Landau and Plus.

The Landau is your basic case which provides all-around protection (with screen protector) without limiting access to any of your ports or buttons.

The Plus is a more rugged case which covers the entire non-screen surface of the phone. ezButtons are built into the case, which are essentially areas which have extra silicon padding. This allows you to press on specific areas of the case and have the desired button be activated. Your iPhone’s screen will be protected by a standard static screen protector.

Both cases will be available in Frost White, Onyx Black and Cool Blue. The ezSkin Plus is expected to run $19.99, while the Landau will be $5 less. Both are set to ship on July 8, 2008.
