Ok I finally am able to add a pic of my doll in the works. They are not the best pictures but you get the idea. She is taking a little longer to make than the others but I hope to have her finished this weekend and show you the actual finished doll Monday.

I am working on other stuff also as I am preparing for another craft show comming up on Aug 2nd. I however wont be able to go so my dear freind Donnely has offered to take my things and display them for me. She is such a wonderful friend.

Well my dear readers i have bored you enough so I am off to get ready for a morning of bill paying and work. Not my idea of a fun filled day but got have money to pay the bills.

Another Family Favorite
Sloppy Joes
1lb. Ground Beef 1/4 c. catsup
1/2 c. chopped onion 1 T. vinegar
1/4 c. chopped green peppers 1 T. sugar
1/4 c. chopped red peppers 1/8 t. black papper
10-3/4 oz can tomato soup 1 t. salt

Combine beer with onion, green and red peppers in a skillet; heat until beef is browned. Mix in remaining ingredients; lower heat and simmer for 20 minutes. Make 6 servings

Not So Funny Story

A few weeks ago my family and I decided to spend the day hiking at one of the state forests we have around here. Something we do every summer.
I needed to use the little girls room, which we all know is actually an outhouse. Dh starts asking me if I'm done, I'm thinking it a guy thing always trying to rush us women. But the he starts getting very persistant about it and tells me not to look up. Well you know when someone tells you not to do something you naturally do so. And here is what I saw.

Let me tell you I was done in a hurry. I calmly ran out of there as quickly as my rubbery legs would allow. And then I refused to even go near it again. Dh took the picture because there was NO WAY in H-E-double hockey sticks I was going back in there.
I know you take the chance of running into snakes(which terrify me anyway) when you go hiking and we've been lucky so far not to. But I sure don't expect to see one when I'm trying to do my business.

After weeks of reading her blog I officially joinned Leslie so I thought I'd show you what I whipped up today.

Some napkins made from homespun fabric.

We are trying to cut back on using so many paper towels and I thought this was a great way to do so. I have 8 more to hem.I used fabric that I already had so it didn't cost much since the fabric was only 50 cents a yard. I bought right after Christmas. I can get 4 napkins out of 3/4 of a yard. And a plus to using these napkins is the fact that they can be washed and reused unlike a paper towel.

A new feature here at Purty Gril Primitives. Recipes from my kitchen

This has become a new family favorite for breakfast.

Baked Oatmeal

3 C. quick cooking oats
1 C . packed brown sugar
2 t. baking powder
1 t. ground cinnamon
1 t. salt
1/2 C. melted butter
2 egs-beaten

In a large bowl combine all ingredients and spoon into a greased 9-in. square baking pan. Bake uncovered at 350* for 45 minutes. can be served warm with milk.

My boys prefer to eat this like a cake without milk and it tastes great.

A simple life

There comes a time in a persons life when they must take a step back and look at what is important to them.
That time for me is now. For the last few years I've had a feeling of discontent but yet could not really explain why. I thought maybe it was because I want so badly to have land live in the country and work from home. A place where we don't have to share half of our drive way with thoughtless neighbors who constantly block it no matter how many times you ask them not to. Anyway that's another story. Back to what I was say. I've finally realized that that is not the root of the problem though. I mean who doesn't want to quit their job and live in the country.

I came across this website and then it finally clicked for me. I now realize why I had these feelings, we as a family had become too involved in ourselves and not were paying enough attention to each other. It had become all about convenience.But I'm finding that convenience really isn't all the convenient.

The things on the website make alot of sense to me. I realize that what I want is a simpler life but I don't have to live somewhere else to do so. I can start doing it right here in the home I have. I do still plan to move to the country one day but til that time I can be content in my home and life here. I am now working on making the changes needed one step at a time. Finding Crystal's website couldn't have come at a better time anyway.
My youngest son is a little hyper active and the doctor wants to start him on a natural diet before putting him on medication. I had no idea where to even begin but here website has lots of great tips and recipes for using natural and healthy foods. I believe eating healthier will benefit all of us here in the Wentland house hold not just #2 son.

I have felt so much more content these last few days and I seem to feel more at peace with myself now that I've made the decision to live a simpler life. While this may not be the answer for everyone I feel it is right for us. And even some of the things on the website may not work out for my family but we will adjust it to ways that will work. I know that a simple life is not always an easy life but I am ok with this. It does mean spending more time doing things in the kitchen but we can spend it together as a family. I believe it will also teach my boys to be more independent once they are old enough to be on their own and I'm installing family values in them that hopefully they will incorparate into their own families someday.

Ok now it's time to step down off my soap box and let you get back to what you were doing before you stumpled upon my blog. LOL, Have a Great day.

I haven't felt much like creating anything since Dh left. I really should because I have lots of dollies that are screaming "make me". But the desire is slowly coming back and so I thought I'd start out small. It's not a prim item but since the boys aked me to make them some head bands and bandanas' for yard mowin, I couldn't say no.

So we headed to Jo-Ann's and picked up some cool-acorrding to them skull fabric- not really my thing but they get it from their father.
I forgot to get a picture of the fabric before I started cutting but here is what I have done so far.

I've still got a few more to do. It's a simple way to make them happy and I'm not complaining because they could have asked for worse things and who am I to turn down a shopping trip for more fabric.

I just may make up a few for christmas. I know that they will be put to good use. Sure I could buy them but that wouldn't be the same because mine are made with LOVE.

He''ll be back at the end of September but right now that seems so far away.We've talked on the phone everyday since he left but it's not the same as being here.

Anyway I got a new camera this week and have been playing with it and learning how it works. I took this picture of the bees pollinating my lavander. With the old camera I had to be right on top of them to get a picture this close-up. Now I can zoom in and out and get a close-up with out being too close.

Also wanted to share my favorite summer recipe with you.It's just like they make at Arby's

Chicken Salad

2C. Cooked chicken breast, cubed
1C. Chopped apples
½C. Red grapes, split in half
1/2C. Chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans)
1/2C. Mayonnaise
2 t. Milk

Combine all ingredients. Chill and serve on a croissant with leaf lettuce. Also good on whole wheat bread.

Well I've bored you enough. And I've got YUKKY old house cleaning to do so I'm off.

Still working on those aprons. I love this newst one. It's fun and flirty. I just wish I had bought more than just a half yard of each print. But at the time I bought it I had no idea what I would do with it. I just thought it was pretty. It did make a cute apron. Next is a plan to do a bib style apron.

I don't know about you but I do not like to use the store bought patterns. I find myself reluctant to use those tissue paper pattens. And when it comes to clothes making UGH! I just don't wanna do it. I have no problems making items using measurements or cardstock patterns but when it comes to store bought ones I jsut don't wanna do it.There are alot of cute patterns but I don't like to use them. Is that being lazy or just plain crazy? My motto is Dare to be different! I never did do what everyone else was doing and I still don't like to follow the norm.

Trying to work an apron order is a little hard when Miss Ginger decideds it's about naptime and her spot of choice just happens to be my sewing machine. I had to take a break because I just didn't have the heart to disturb her naptime.

A Cover Up

I’ve been on this apron kick the last few days. They take me back to my childhood. I remember visitng my great grandmother and she always wore an apron for cooking,house cleaning and everyday wear. She passed when I was 10yrs old but I can still picture her in her apron.

I scoured the internet and found this tutourial for making a reversable half apron. I set to work and made these up in just a few hours. I love them. The pink and brown one is such a big change for me. I a tomboy and not particularly into girly things but this apron was fun and I can’t wait to make another one.

The green one was my first one. It’s plain and simple but made up quickly. I talked my 9 yr old into modeling for me but he refused to do the pink one. Too girly perhaps? LOL

I will definately be making more of these. I have plans to try a full apron too ut right now I’m having fun with half aprons.

I also joinned the Apronista forum. I’m still learning my way around but having fun while I do so. I hope to be able to join a few apron swaps this some also. Well thats all for now. I’m off to check out some more aprons. Hope you are staying cool and have a nice day.

Yes i finally made it back to the land of bloggin. Let me tell you it's rough not being able to visit with you all. I have been a busy girl though with all my sewing projects. I'm getting ready to try the street fair again this month. I have pics to share but Blogger is at it again and I can't get them to post nor will it let me link to other blogs. I have a doll, a few ornies, a couple of cats and a stick horse and just as soon as I can I will post them all for you to see.

Another new doll. This is my Breast Cancer doll. It is an Emily Franz pattern tweaked just a bit to suit me.I made it in honor of my great grandmother Bertha Evans who was a breast cancer survivor. She was diagnosed when she was in her 60's. She had to have one removed and you would never have known she ever had breast cancer because she never complained or let it slow here down. She passed away at the age of 96 from natural causes.
Also this doll is in honor of my friend Donnely who is also a survivor. I cherish her friendship so much and am overjoyed to have her in my life. She is a huge inspiration to me.

Of course i couldn't get out of here without showing more pictures of my new kitties. Rascals is more like it. But aren't they adorable?

New Additions

Well I am finally able to show you the doll I made Donnely for her birthday last week. She collects witches and so I knew I had to make one for her.
I havene't made any this week because I figured I had better follow the doctors orders and give my shoulder a rest. It does feel much better and so I will start back to doll making as soon as my busy schedule allows.

I want to introduce 2 new additions to my family. Whickers(black male) and Ginger(female calico). Whickers is a shy kitty and prefers to keep to himself when he is not playing with Ginger. He likes to just sit back and watch the action.
She on the other hand is a very sociable kitty. She has already decided that she her bed is my bed.She is so funny to watch hopping and prancing around like she owns the place.
They are about 2 months old and will be long haired mitten paws.

Some of you may remember in another post I mentioned my right shoulder bothering me.Well I finally went to the doctor to get it checked out and it seems I have Brusitis. The doctor gave me a cortizone shoot and told me to take it easy and try not to use my arm for a week. Say What?! LOL I almost laughed in his face. Like that is going to happen. I am right handed and can not go with out using it. I have WAY TOO MUCH to do to get ready for the June street fair. I wont be doing any extreme sewing like I did last month but there is no way I can just put everything aside for a week. I'll just have to pace myself I guess. I sure don't want my shoulder flaring back up because that was quite painful but I can not stop completely either.

I did manage to get a little cutie done before I went to the doctor though. She was a birthday gift for my very best friend and Mentor Donnely. However blogger doesn't seems to be working right now so I can't show you the picture of it. It is a cute little Annie witch. Donnely collects Halloween itmes all year round.

Hope you all had a nice Mother's day. I had to work but it was nice once I got home. My 9 year old made me a booklet and wrote a poem for me at school. In the poem he wrote I wished for a butler. LOL. I laughed. What would I do with a butler? He is such a funny boy. He makes me laugh everyday with the things he comes up with. One day last week he forgot to bring his school work home. He was so sure that someone had stolen it on the bus cause he just knew that he had put it in his book bag. Mind you his lunch box was still in his bookbag. Now why would they steal the homework instead of the Spiderman lunch box? Kids say the darnest things.LOL

I'm sure many of you have been wondering how my show(aka street fair) went. Well it didn't due to rain, LOTS of rain and huge gusts of wind. We got there and the sky looked clear, we knew it was going to rain but we were hoping it would hold off. However that was not to be the case. We had just finished setting everything up our tables looked great. Then about 10 minutes after everything started it poured and the wind lifted everything off my table and dumped it on the ground and we scrambled to get everything picked up. So everyone packed it up and that was the end of it. I was a little disappointed because I had worked so hard to get my dolls and a few other things ready in time.But there was not much I could do since no one has any control over the weather. Maybe I'll try it again next month since it is a Street Fair that is held once a month from April to October. That just means I have time to make up a few more dolls.

I'm actually thinking of getting my vendors licence and trying my hand at a few farmer's market's. Wayne has been working on a few birdhouses and I think between the two of us that we might actually sell something. That is if I could ever get a weekend off from work. But who knows.

Derby Hat Day
Welcome to my Derby Hat Reveal. This super fun event was
hosted by Bristol of Honey Bend Vintage. My partner for the event was Jane. She does not have a blog but you can see a picture of her darling hat by clicking on Bristol's name above.
My hat may not be as fancy as some of the others I've seen but I like it. It took me awhile to decide on what to put on it. I tried feathers and other flowery items but it just didn't work for me. I tried other colors and that didn't work either. Finally I decided on yelow roses and it was just what it need. I am not really a flowery type girl. This hat was a little outside my comfort zone which is good because it challanges me to think outside the box and try different things.
While it is not as elborate as some of the others I've seen I like it all the same.

Sunflower Grunge

I found this fast and fun sunflower tutorial . I love them. I've been working on making up a bunch. These flowers making up in a mater of minutes. I had 3 done in 15 minutes. I love these type of instant gratification projects.

I also made up this cute little travelers pin cushion. Using the flower tutorial I made one for the top and attached some cotton ribbon.
It's loose enough that the band slides off the box and wal-la your pin cushion is inside. I left some room for safty pins to be stashed in it also. Now how cool is that.

Well I'm off to finish the last of the dolls for my show. 8 down 2 to go- just have to make the clothes and they are all done. It's been alot of work but I made my goal. Now I just hope I can sell a couple.

Look at the lovely signs my DH made me for my part of the table at the art show. I printed the free graphics from Raggedy Scrappin and then he traced them onto a piece of wood and I painted them. Simple yet it gets the point across as to what I am all about. Isn't he just the sweetest man for cutting these out for me.
