Hace un par de meses estuve en Guadalajara trabajando en el libro sobre guitarristas mexicanos que estoy haciendo junto con Marco Cataño y por casualidad y gracias a Aldo Monterrubio pasamos por el estúdio de Omar Rodriguez-Lopez (Mars Volta) donde aproveche para hacerle un par de retratos (gracias a Omar y a Cesar Rosas de Universal por su colaboración).

A couple of months ago i was in Guadalajara working on the mexican guitarrists book i'm doing with Marco Cataño, by casuality and thanks to Aldo Monterrubio we went to Omar Rodriguez-Lopez (Mars Volta) studio where i had the chance to make a couple of portraits of Omar. (Thanks to Omar and Cesar Rosas from Universal for their colaboration).

Panamá siempre con sabrosura. En nuestro último viaje no paramos de escuchar reggae en los barrios que visitabamos y pura salsa en los bares y las calles de la ciudad. Tuvimos oportunidad de gozar el sabor de las calles de Casco Viejo con gente como Samantha Alonso, campeona nacional de surf y campeona internacional de la copa Corona del año pasado. Un chingo de cervezas, reggae saliendo de la grabadora de Samantha y pura gozadera hasta el amanecer. La música cabrona en este pais no es novedad, aquí una pruebita de lo que se gozaba a finales de los 60. Tropicalia con todo.

Panama always makes you feel good. In our last trip we can't stop listening reggae in the hoods we passed by, salsa in the bars and streets. We had the chance to enjoy the flavor from the streets of Casco Viejo with cool people like Samantha Alonso, national surfing champion and international surfing champion of the Corona cup from last year. Lots of beers, reggae coming from her boombox and good vibes till morning. The fuckin' good music in this place is nothiing new, here is a taste of what people enjoyed in the 60's. Full tropicalia.

"Adopt & Adapt" is the most recent photo project from our carnal Carlos Alvarez Montero. This is how he explain his project: "In Adopt & Adapt I focus on people who are in the midst of constructing their identity but beacuse of the lack of rapport with their social, cultural and geographical situation, they have the need to adopt ideas, styles, signs and/or symbols from a part of the world different than their own. By adapting them to their specific circumstances they create a new meaning that fits their specific needs and situations. This way they create a new code that separates them from everyone else, reafirming their individuality giving them certain aura of authenticity. Este remix es también un tributo a al Día de la Afrocolombianidad, celebrado el dia de ayer 21 de Mayo en el que se celebra la conmemoracion de la abolicion de la esclavitud en Colombia. Esta fue una de las canciones que escuchamos en nuestro reciente viaje por Cartagena, Colombia, una de muchas champetas que escuchamos por ahi. La champeta es un híbrido musical que tiene elementos claros de los ritmos africanos, antillanos y algunos signos del folclor afrocolombiano, quizás los más perceptibles al oído y a la vista sean el bullerengue, mapalé, zambapalo y chalupa. This is our new remix of the song El Nato Mama Ron from Noel Patron. This remix is also a tribute to the Afocolombianidad Day celebrated yesterday comemorating the date slavery was abolished in Colombia. This was one of the songs we listened in our recent trip to Cartagena, Colombia, one of many champetas we heard around. Champeta is a musical hybrid with african, antillean riddims and afrocolombian folclor. Pedro Daniel López is a 25 years old filmmaker of San Cristóbal de Las Casas, Chiapas. La pequeña semilla en el asfalto (The little seed on the asphalt) is his third documentary which explores an insight of how young indigenous Mexicans living in San Cristóbal assume their identity.

The premiere of the little seed will be next October at the Morelia Film Festival

Pedro Daniel López es un videoasta de 25 años de San Cristóbal de Las Casas, Chiapas. La pequeña semilla en el asfalto es su tercer trabajo documental en el que explora cómo jóvenes indígenas de esta ciudad asumen su identidad.

La pequeña semilla será presentada el próximo mes de Octubre en el Festival de Morelia...
