Hey Fast Track Students!

Fast Track has new office hours:

Monday: 8-12 and 1-5 (closed 12-1)
Tuesday: 8-12 and 1-5 (closed 12-1)
Wednesday: 8-11 and 1-5 (closed 11-1 for staff meeting) Note the change!
Thursday: 8-12 and 1-5 (closed 12-1)
Friday: 8-12 (closed 12-5)

Fire Assistance: If you have been affected by the Summit Fire, please contact our office. We will put you in touch with the person coordinating the assistance efforts for the Cabrillo community.

Watsonville Office Hours:
Fast Track will no longer be able to hold office hours in Watsonville. You can turn in forms at the Student Resource Center. The SRC staff will send them to Fast Track.
Job development appointments are available in Watsonville by request. Please contact Karen at 477-5626.

You can schedule an appointment with an academic counselor in Watsonville by calling 477-5134. Please have your counselor fax a copy of you education plan to the Fast Track Office.

Graduates:
Fast Track will have a table at Graduation, please stop by and see us so we can congratulate you in person!

Text Book Buy Back will take place during Finals Week at the Bookstore/Hawk Shop: June 2-6.

Summer Books will go on sale June 8. You can come by the Fast Track office starting that week to pick up your book voucher or fill out a book request form. Fast Track will be open regular hours all Summer.

It’s time to register for Fall 2008! Please contact Fast Track if you have any questions or problems registering.

March and Rally in Sacramento, Monday, April 21, 2008
regarding proposed budget cuts to higher education

Students who would like to join in the march and rally concerning the proposed budget cuts to colleges and universities for next year’s state budget are invited to respond to the following:

1) Sign up to ride the bus at the Student Affairs Office, in the SAC East. There are only 50 spaces available. You must sign up by Friday, April 18 at 12:00 noon. Sign up between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on Thursday or 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon Friday.

2) All bus riders must sign a field trip release form. This will be provided at the time of sign-up.

3) Meet the bus on Monday, April 21 at 6:00 a.m. in parking lot K, next to the gym. We will return by about 5:00 p.m. Don’t be late, we want to arrive in Sacramento in time to join the march to the Capital.

4) *Bring your own sack lunch*. Water and snacks will be provided on the bus.

Other information:

*Car pools*, if we get more than 50 who would like to attend, we will encourage car pooling. A car pool list will be developed in that case.

*Missing class?* - Some instructors might be willing to give students an alternative assignment for that day – ask your instructor.

*Sponsors of this event are*: The Associated Students of Cabrillo College (Student Senate) Cabrillo College Federation of Teachers (CCFT), Cabrillo Classified Employees Union (CCEU), and the Student Affairs Office.

*How did this movement start? *The leadership of the Student Senate of the California Community Colleges (SSCCC), the California State Student Association (CSSA) and the University of California Student Association (UCSA) have come together in a historic coalition called Students for California’s Future (SCF). SCF has planned for major marches/rallies in Sacramento and Los Angeles on Monday, April 21 to demonstrate the concern over the major state budget cuts proposed (over $1 billion) for next year for colleges and universities.

On Google.com you can use their online spreadsheet, word processor and presentation software - FREE.

Log on to Google.com
Go to the top left-hand side links and click on "more"
Go down to "documents."
From there you can select which program you want to use.

Also you can share your document with others to be able to view and or edit the document. It's great for working with a group from class.

The deadline to petition for Certificates and Degrees for Fall 2007 graduates is November 19. You must complete your petition with an academic counselor.

WIA Mileage Reimubursements

WIA students: the mileage reimbursements were slowed down, but fear not, your checks are on the way. It's a good idea to keep track of what you are submitting for mileage reimbursement so you know what you have received. The turn around time is about 4 weeks for mileage claims.

Parent Support Group

The first meeting of the Parent Support Group was great! New people are always welcome. The group is drop-in so don't worry about RSVPing...just show up! See you next Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. at the Fast Track office (Room 802).

Support Group For Students Who Are Parents

Being a student and a parent is hard! That's why we're starting a support group just for Fast Track students who are also parents. Starting November 6th, Fast Track will host a weekly support group on Tuesdays from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. This will be a drop-in group so there's no need to RSVP in advance. This will be a chance for you to relax, talk & listen. You're not alone!

We can arrange childcare. Call Caitlin at 477-5190 if you are interested.

Catherine's book club is generously donating children's books for all our students! Books will be available to pick up starting the first week in December. Come by the Fast Track office (room 802) to pick up your gift!

School Supplies for WIA students

Most school supplies are available at the Cabrillo Bookstore! Please come in for a bookstore voucher for school supplies. This is much faster and easier than submitting the receipts for reimbursement.

Starting Tuesday, Aug. 21, you can come into the Fast Track office to fill out your book request forms. Parking permits and bus passes can be picked up in the Student Affairs office of the Aptos Campus and in the Admissions & Records building at the Watsonville Campus starting Tuesday, Aug. 21.
