Place flour, baking powder salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a medium bowl and whisk to combine; set aside.
Combine butter and sugar in a large bowl and beat over medium speed until mixture resembles wet sand and is airy, about 3 minutes. Add eggs 1 at a time, letting each fully incorporate before adding the next. Add vanilla extract. Reduce speed to low, add flour mixture in 2 parts, and mix until just combined, about 1 minute. Add remaining ingredients and mix until evenly combined.
Using a 2-inch ice cream scoop, drop dough onto baking sheets, spaced about 1-inch apart. Bake until cookies are puffed, set, and tops and undersides are golden brown, rotating sheets halfway through, about 18 to 20 minutes. Remove from oven, let cool on sheets 2 minutes, then remove to wire racks to cool completely. Enjoy!

Get your FREE Copy of Jewel of the Maine Coast!

For the most complete information in planning your next trip to the Maine coast, the 2009 Jewel of the Maine coast visitors guide is a must, and now you can request yours for FREE through the Camden-Rockport-Lincolnville Chamber of Commerce at http://www.camdenme.org/. When you first receive your lily, water it thoroughly and allow the water to drain. Going forward, water weekly, keeping in mind not to overwater which could cause the bulb to rot. Place your lily in a room that receives normal day light, but is not too hot, as the cooler the room is, the longer the flowers will last. As for saving our linens, snip off the pollen sacs found inside the blooms, as the droppings can be messy and create stains! This will also keep the flower clean. When the bloom starts to die, deadhead the flower by pruning back the stem.

Because the Easter lily is a forced bulb, it won't bloom again indoors, but there's a chance you might get it to bloom again outdoors. All you need to do is take it out when it's nice and warm, plant it in a sunny location, as deep as it was in the container. Keep it watered, fertilize it and then cross your fingers. There's a 50-50 chance it will bloom again.

More Household Hints and Shortcuts!

Love these! Hope you find them useful!
1. To remove stains, fingerprints, even tape residue from stainless steel, use baby oil on a soft cloth. Leaves a nice shine too!
2. To remove the strong odor of onions from your hands, hold a stainless steel spoon in your hand while running water and rub your hands as though the spoon were soap.
3. To smooth the runners on a sticky drawer, rub the runners and drawer on a bar of soap. It’s amazing how much of a difference it will make!
4. Use vinegar all around house to disinfect and clean many surfaces, although don't use this on furniture made with fabric. It is cheap and chemical free! You can use vinegar straight or equal parts vinegar and water.
5. To remove crayons on walls, use WD-40. It removes it immediately, but if you use it on a flat paint it will leave a greasy line that can easily be washed off with soap and water.

Good luck and stay tuned for future tips!

Time to Start your Spring Herbs!

Now is a great time to begin and indoor herb garden, ensuring a full season of use, and cultivating seedlings to transplant to an outside garden when the weather permits! If you are starting your herb garden for cooking purposes, consider starting with some popular herbs such as parsley, sage, rosemary, chives, mint and thyme. Starting these herbs from seeds is very easily accomplished with a planting container or containers, soil, and seeds. Label your containers so you know what is growing where, and be sure to use a container with holes to allow for drainage. Water the seeds well after planting and continue to water with small amounts daily to keep the soil damp. Some seeds can be covered to produce more of a greenhouse effect to start the growth, and place your containers on a window sill to allow for adequate sunlight. Your herbs will grow for your use great in this fashion, or you may transplant outside once you have seedlings established and the weather permits. First move the containers outside for a few days to allow the plants to adjust, then move to their permanent location by carefully removing the seedlings from their container, handling by their stems to minimize breakage, and plants in a prepared bed. Transplant on a cloudy day if possible, trim your plants and water regularly until the herbs are reestablished in their new environment. Each herb should be pruned differently to promote new growth. Visit Better Homes & Gardens at http://www.bhg.com/ for tips of pruning the herbs you choose. Good luck and enjoy the gardening and cooking world this will open for you!

The Inns featured in "Gourmet Getaways"!

Just released this month, Joe David's new book, Gourmet Getaways: 50 Top Spots to Cook and Learn, features locales throughout the country, where chefs share their culinary expertise and recipes! Easy as that!

2. Blood stains on clothes? Not to worry! Just pour a little hydrogen peroxide on a cloth and proceed to wipe off every drop of blood. Works every time!

3. Fresh Smelling Clothes - Place fabric softener sheets in dresser drawers and your clothes will smell freshly washed for weeks to come. You can also do this with towels and linens too!

4. Cleaning Artificial Flowers - To clean artificial flowers, pour some salt into a paper bag and add the flowers. Shake, and the salt will absorb all the dust and dirt and leave your artificial flowers looking like new!

5. Removing Burnt on Food From a Pan - To easily remove burnt on food from your skillet, simply add a drop or two of dish soap and enough water to cover bottom of pan, and bring to a boil on stovetop. Wipe clean and rinse with water. What a pan saver!

Hope you find these helpful! Feel free to leave comments with your great tips and stay tuned for more to come!

Camden's Winterfest in Review

This year was the 7th annual Winterfest held in Camden's Harbor Park, and the event grows each year! Conditions have been perfect for downhill as well as cross country skiing and snowshoeing! We have had over 4 feet of the white stuff so far this year, making for a great base, beautiful scenery and plenty of outdoor activities available! All of these activities can be fun for the whole family, and we love to recommend our favorite parks, paths and hills! Don't have your own equipment? You can borrow ours if available, or you can rent locally at Maine Sport in neighboring Rockland. One of our favorite hills is Mt. Battie, with breathtaking views of the Camden Harbor and the Penobscot Bay, and plenty of trails and hills depending on your skill level! We have lots of ideas and advice, and would love to help you plan your activities,... give us a call! This picture is of Jim snowshoeing last week. Need a guide? He would be happy to oblige as time allows! NORAD, an organization created in 1958, who is responsible for the aerospace and maritime defense of the United States and Canada, has a website that does just that! The site has a countdown to Christmas, and when Santa sets out on Christmas Eve, this site will use their satellite imagery to track Santa's path! In collaboration with Google Earth, you can even see his trip in 3D! Because of the time zones and international date line, Santa's trip actually begins on Wednesday at 6:00 am eastern time in the South Pacific! Visit http://www.noradsanta.org/ to check the countdown, learn many interesting facts about Santa and his travels, and most importantly, track Santa's trip on Christmas Eve!

How to keep your Christmas tree fresh!

With so many products on the market and so many tales about what the very best way to keep your tree fresh the longest, how do you decide whose advice to follow? Well, it's actually very simple! WATER! This is all you need! When you bring your tree home, cut a few inches off the bottom, and trim the lower branches, and immediately place in a bucket of cold water until you are ready to bring into the house. Make sure your tree stand stays full throughout the season, and that's it! Your tree doesn't need sugar or candy or syrup or anything else. The true cause for a dry tree, is likely how long ago it was cut down. To ensure your fresh tree throughout the season, you may also consider a trip to a local tree farm and cut it down yourself! This is a long standing tradition in our family, and a great memory maker for the whole family. Best of luck with your tree this season and enjoy the beauty and joy a live tree brings to the season!

Opening Day at the Camden Snow Bowl!

Winter is here! Pumpkin Dip!

This recipe was such a hit for our holiday celebrations over this past weekend that it just has to be shared! It was popular with adults and kids alike and is so simple to make anytime of year, but especially during the crisp fall months! Try serving it in a pumpkin shell for a nice presentation and the variety of "dippers" you can serve with it are abundant! Try ginger snaps, apple slices or graham sticks... a few of our family favorites!

Pumpkin Dip Recipe:
1 large can of pureed pumpkin
2 cups confectioners sugar
1 8 oz. block of cream cheese
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg

Allow cream cheese to soften completely. This is important to ensure mixing well with other ingredients for a creamier result. Blend with other ingredients and serve! So simple and delicious it will become a regular in your recipe book!

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://www.innsatblackberrycommon.com/blog/2008/12/new-favorite-pumpkin-dip.html' title='A New Favorite!
