A belated congrats to all our class of 2009 teammates on graduation. To everyone else: Happy Summer!

In website news, the Prospectives page has been updated with the contact information of next year's captains for interested newcomers to Bates. Also, the guys team now has a legitimate website at bateshockey.com and was kind enough to link to us. Special thanks to Tim for setting that up.

End of Season Banquet

Last week, our end of season banquet was held. Awards were selected by the team and are:

Most Valuable Player: Lauren Slipp
Best Offensive Player: Kathleen Boyland
Best Defensive Player: Lauren Slipp
Most Improved Player: Kristy Zera

Anne Mueller was selected by teammates as the 2009 women's recipient of the Dick Williamson Alumni Ice Hockey Award. This award recognizes "leadership, spirit, skill, dedication, humor, and sportsmanship, both on and off the ice."

Also, captains for next year were elected and will be: Lauren Slipp, Kara Sullivan, and Kathleen Boyland.

Congrats to everyone. Thank you all for a great season.

The University of Vermont defeated Bates 6-0 this afternoon at Underhill Arena in Bates' last regular season home game of the season. Prior to the game, seniors Megan Arnold, Caitlin Demko, Rachel Kaplan, Kelley O'Connor, and Anne Mueller were honored for their years of service to the team. Thanks, girls!

We're on break now, looking forward to hosting the NEWCHL Tournament in two weeks.

Mount Holyoke Game

Bates defeated Mount Holyoke 4-3 at Underhill Arena to secure a spot in the NEWCHL Playoff Tournament.

Alumni Game

The Bates Alumni Hockey Reunion 2009 will take place the weekend of Jan. 17-18 at Underhill Arena. Please find more information, including how to RSVP, on the Bates alumni website.

We will be away on Saturday the 17th, but will return to Underhill for a 1:30pm game against Fairfield on Sunday the 18th. If you are attending the reunion weekend and are able to stay through Sunday afternoon, we'd love to have you at the game.

This Weekend

Northeastern University defeated Bates 11-0 on Saturday and 8-0 on Sunday. Megan Arnold and Kristy Zera both contributed in net to prevent anymore damage.

As we approach the mid-semester break, we'd like to wish Rachel Laaff and Kara Sullivan safe and rewarding experiences next semester, as they'll be away on semesters abroad. The recycling club will especially miss their presence.

Road Games

The Bobcats returned home today after a successful weekend away. Late Saturday night, in a game reminiscent of last season's 3rd place game at Nationals, Bates defeated Columbia 6-5 in OT thanks to a goal by Kathleen Boyland. On Sunday, the Bobcats traveled to Easthampton, MA to play Smith College. Down 2-1 with less than two minutes to go in the third period, Bates quieted the crowd as they fought back and tied up the game. The score remained at 2-2 through overtime. The Bobcats' record now stands at 3-0-1.

2008-2009 Season Begins!

We recently had some technical difficulties posting to the website, but are back in business now just as the season begins.

After a successful clinic with local youth, we began practice on the NESCAC-mandated November 1. After just six practices, we had our first game. On Saturday, November 8 at Fairfield, Bates Hockey began the season with a 13-5 victory at the Wonderland of Ice. Megan Arnold made her debut in net and Kathleen Boyland, Eve Boonseng, Caitlin Demko, Anne Mueller, and Rachel Laaf all contributed with goals. Special congratulations to Kara Sullivan, Rachel Kaplan, and Tess Glancey, who scored their first career goals.

On Sunday, Bates defeated Wheaton College in a friendly exhibition game. Next weekend, Bates makes the trek to Columbia University for a Saturday night game, followed by a game at Smith on Sunday evening.

Clinic

In cooperation with the men's hockey team, we are hosting a hockey clinic for kids this week, Oct. 27-31 at Underhill Arena.

Session A (ages 6-9): 6-7pm
Session B (ages 10-14): 7:15-8:15pm

Both our coach, Roger Lachappelle, and the men's coach, Tom LeBlond, will be providing instruction, and members of the Lewiston Maineiacs will also be on hand. Contact Anne Mueller with questions or to register: 508-572-3427 or amueller@bates.edu. We look forward to seeing you!

Activities Fair

Please come to the Activities Fair tomorrow night, Wednesday September 1 from 9-11pm at the Library Arcade (that's underneath the back of the library.) Look for our booth if you have any sort of interest in being involved with the team -- we'd love to meet you! Alternatively, if you get lost in the chaos of the fair, you can let us know that you're interested by filling out the form on the Prospectives page or emailing any of the captains.
