I really thought I would be posting more often and I can't believe I've been so busy as to not at least post something.
Anyway... After 19 years on my job I was laid off Thursday. Am I bummed? A little. I hate the idea of filling out applications, job interviews and starting a new job. But I am a firm believer that all things happen for a reasonBeverlyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11528265309741637151noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8355416575507546776.post-45008069002937718602008-01-02T07:37:00.000-08:002008-01-02T07:42:28.708-08:00Hello 2008!I am not a believer in New Year's resolutions. I think we all put enough pressure on ourselves everyday let alone make a big list every new year which, at least in my case, I know is impossible to achieve.
I did promise my son and myself that due to my health problems I am going to quit smoking this year. Now that my son is almost grown I'm considering making a career change and looking into different fields. I've often thought about going back to school to become a teacher, and now this quiz has pretty much confirmed this may be a good career choice for me.

Of course I grew up in the 60s and 70s when you saw more kids out playing and all of them went to the same school. My parents knew all the other parents in the neighborhood and although not all were considered friends we did all stick together and were there for each other. In ancient times it was known as "Kan-Yu," which means "The Law of Heaven and Earth," and is an old Chinese belief that the environment in which you live can influence your life. We usually have a big one but this year Jason picked it out. He wanted one of those really little ones but we ended up with a 6 foot tree, just right for our small livingroom. Every year we put the tree up together but I decided this year we would do it the way he wanted it. The Catholic League is urging a boycott of "The Golden Compass," a film based on a series of books the League claims was "written to promote atheism and denigrate Christianity, especially Roman Catholicism."

New York - Service members seriously wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan after they received a $10,000 bonus for enlisting are being asked by the Pentagon to repay portions of the incentive money, says a U.S. senator who calls the practice an example of military policy gone wrong.

In true Hawaiian form my son and I have decided to have a Spam Thanksgiving -- yes that's right, Spam, heaven in a can for Hawaiians. We don't eat a lot of Spam ourselves but Hawaiians consume nearly 6 million cans a year, or almost six cans for every man, woman, and child. Some call the gelatinous pink pork "Hawaii's soul food."

Sim Jae-duck, also known as "Mr. Toilet," has made a career in South Korea by beautifying public restrooms and has nearly completed the building of a commode-shaped house. Although I wouldn't want to live in it, you have to admire the creativity and ingenuity!

My fave TV show is "CSI" and tonight Sara said goodbye. Jorja Fox had verified months ago that tonight's episode would be her last, and as sad as it is for fans like me it was a very good send-off. If it's possible to fall in love with a movie I have. After months of anticipation yesterday my son and I finally traveled up to "the city" to see "Across the Universe" and needless to say it was worth the wait. Now I'm a die-hard Beatles fan -- their music has been the soundtrack of my life -- so I guess I'm prejudiced, but the movie was better than I could have imagined.
